A/N: *Checks peephole* Wow did someone actually return to read the next chapter? That's fucking wild lol thanks! I hope you enjoy this chapter, it's definitely as mediocre as the last one. I'd appreciate it if you left a comment to tell me how you think I can improve. I'm open to writing critique. Oh, by the way, this story has no Beta so all mistakes are mine.
Twilight will never be mine no matter how hard I wish.
The car ride was quiet for the most part, except for the sound of the radio playing in the background. I was so jet-lagged that I had been dozing off in the back seat but I kept shaking myself awake. I wanted to take in my surroundings. I didn't want to miss a thing about my small town and the places we passed to get there. Maybe I would just go to sleep when we got to the house and call it a night. When we pulled up, however, that plan was thrown out the window. Their house seemed really warm and inviting. I couldn't wait to get inside. As I looked over the house I noticed all of the lights were on, which is weird considering no one else lives here but Sam and Emily and they'd both been gone.
"Why did you guys leave your lights on?" I asked. They said nothing and just lead me to the door. I followed them inside and was immediately swallowed up in a hug. I let out a yelp and tried to push my captor off of me.
"Come on sis is that any way to treat your big bro?" He said.
"Jacob?" I asked.
"Duh." He laughed.
"JAKE! Oh my gosh, I missed you so freaking much." I squeezed him tightly and then pulled back. He wasn't really my brother but he'd always protected and annoyed me like one. "What the hell have they been feeding you? There is no way you should be this huge."
"I just filled out a little, my growth spurt was good to me and the ladies sure aren't complaining." He wiggled his eyebrows.
"Gross." I chuckled.
"What about you though? What happened to the braces and the glasses? You went and grew up on me. Looking all hot and stuff." He said.
"I'll say." I heard someone across the room say and I looked over to see Quil looking me up and down.
"Hey, Atera no ogling my lil sis I'll kick your ass man!" Jake said and Quil smirked a bit and turned away.
"I couldn't be an ugly duckling forever. I mean the braces were only on for 4 years." I told him.
"Well, they sure worked wonders on those buck teeth!" Everyone started laughing and I slapped his arm.
"Alright, Jake stop hogging her the rest of us want hugs too!" Billy said as he wheeled over to us. I leaned down to hug him.
"It's so great to see you Billy. How have you been." I asked.
"I'm still kickin' Lex so I can't complain." He smiled. "What about you and your mom how have you guys been."
"I'm great and so is mom. I tried talking her into coming back with me but she's still gotta work. She said she'll be making the trip soon though."
I looked around and surveyed the room to see who else was here when my eyes landed on Leah.
"Lee-Lee!" I said and went over to hug her. I could feel a little tension coming off of the others when I started towards her, but she smiled and gave me a big hug, to which everyone sighed with relief.
"It's good to see you Lexi." She said softly.
"You too. Is Seth around?" I had to ask. I was starting to feel a bit hurt considering everyone was here and he apparently wasn't. Before she could answer though the front door crashed open.
"Hey guys sorry I'm late is she here yet?"
"Seth?" He looked in my direction at the sound of his name and then as our eyes met everything froze and it was like I felt the earth shift and move, but at the center of it all was Seth. It was like he was the only thing holding me down to earth. He was staring at me like just me being here was a miracle. Like he'd been blind his entire life and was finally able to see the light.
I didn't realize we'd moved closer to each other until I felt his hand cupping my face. He looked as if he was in awe and I smiled brightly at him. I then wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly to myself like I was trying to mold us into one person and he squeezed me just as tight.
"Well shit, here I was all ready to try and keep the secret from her and we don't even have to." Someone behind me said, followed by a thud and a wince. I suddenly realized Seth and I weren't alone in the room and pulled away from him. A hurt expression crossed his face so I grabbed his hand and smiled in reassurance.
"What secret?" I asked.
"Nothing you need to worry about right now." Jacob said.
"Well then can someone please explain what just happened here."
"No, but I can tell you what I know is about to happen in less than five seconds." I looked over to Sam who looked as though he was ready to kill someone and if the direction of his glare was anything to go by then that someone was Seth. I took an involuntary step to the side so that I was standing in front of him.
"Seth. Outside." Sam demanded with a stern look and an inhuman growl but before anyone could do or say anything, Leah stood in front of us.
"Absolutely fucking NOT, Samuel Uley! You will not lay a single finger on my brother for this when you have no room to talk. At least this time no one got hurt." She said with a cold look in her eyes. Her eyes were like stone but you could hear the waves of emotion in her voice.
My brother stopped in his tracks and sat back down with a sobered expression on his face. He said nothing to Leah, the look on his face said he'd already said it all before.
" 'No room to talk? This time?' What the hell is going on here! What is everyone hiding?" I was beginning to get a bit exasperated.
"This doesn't concern you at the moment Alexis, stay out of it." The look was back on my brother's face.
Leah's response was quick as a whip, "Oh it absolutely concerns her. She will NOT be kept in the dark as long as I was. Seth, go now. Tell her."
"Back off Leah." Sam growled.
"I may not know what's going on right now but I do know that you have no right to speak to her that way Sam." I said with a stone face. "Seth, please take me away from here." His response was automatic, clutching my hand and leading me through the back door.
"Get back here NOW Alexis!" My brother shouted. I looked back just in time to see Leah and Jacob blocking his path as we hurried away.
Seth started leading me down a path that I remembered all too well. We'd walked this path through the woods many times as children on our way to the beach. The memories almost made me smile. Almost.
"What was all that back there? I've been home for literally an hour and already there's so much fucking drama!"
"Who needs a soap opera when you have family, right?" Seth laughs nervously.
"If this is what it's going to be like then maybe I should've stayed with my mother. Maybe she was right to want to leave." I muttered.
Seth immediately halted his steps, jerking me to a stop. I took my hand from his and turned to look at him.
"I don't think that." He said so low that I thought I'd misheard him. "I don't think that and I don't think you do either." He said more clearly, his eyes piercing me. He took a step forward and grabbed my shoulders, leaning down to look directly into my eyes. "Despite all the craziness just now something beautiful and world-altering happened to us today that wouldn't have happened if you had stayed away." He slowly slid his hands down my arms to hold my hands, causing me to shutter slightly. "And the way you're reacting to my touch proves to me that you felt it too."
The longer I stared into his eyes, the more the world seemed to melt away. There was only us, only him and it was jarring. I breathed him in and exhaled his name.
"What is this. What happened between us in there, and why is everyone acting so weird about it?" He let go of my hands at that and I was able to focus a bit better. He turned away from me then.
"Do you remember the legends of our tribe?" He asked.
"Of course I do, how could I forget?"
"So you remember everything about Taha Aki and our people sort of being descendants of wolves?"
"That old wives tale? About the spirit warriors? What are you trying to say Seth?"
"They're true." He looked at me then and I caught my breath, the sarcasm I was about to dole out suddenly caught in my throat. He seemed genuinely afraid of my response.
"Are you trying to tell me you turn into a wolf in your spare time?" I asked.
"Me, Leah, Sam and every other guy in that house."
"Show me." I said immediately.
"What?"
"Show me. I wanna see." I didn't understand what was so confusing about what I'd said. He suddenly seemed in awe of me. "Show me how you turn into a wolf."
"You really wanna see my wolf?" He asked in total disbelief.
"Of course I do, why not?"
"Okay, but you have to stand back." He said as he started backing away himself. "Oh, and you might wanna cover your eyes. I kind of have to take my clothes off." He blushed then and I smiled.
Per his instruction I covered my eyes, only peeking a little. I promise I'm not a pervert I just wanted to see if he was as jacked as he felt when I hugged him.
"Count to five and then open your eyes." He said.
One.
Two. I heard shuffling.
Three.
Four. I felt the air around us shimmer and then there was a thud.
Five.
