Wonder
"Circe, there's one thing you didn't mention in your story," Diana pondered. "Why didn't you kill me two days ago? The full moon appeared as Hecate predicted."
"I would be a fool to fall for such a prophecy!" she responded. "Hecate is to take over the woman's body. But she never specified which woman. The medallion given to you was meant for Wonder Woman. It was me, then Hippolyta, then Nubia, and now you. If I slayed you, I would become Wonder Woman which would be the woman she controls."
"You were a devote follower of Circe. One who believed that simply selling your soul wasn't enough to please her. The lasso did not have a reaction to anything in your story that would be a lie. What caused your sudden change of heart?" Diana wondered.
"It was not a change of heart. It was more of a discovery. I was conflicted the moment Hecate reminded me of why I killed my husband. The conflict inside grew more and more as I gathered the corpses of the Kreeyan Race. The conflict grew the strongest when I reached the island. I though initiating a one-on-one challenge would remove the conflict, but I could not accept defeat because of the strength of a frail doll. When it seemed that all was lost, I chose deceit."
"Nubia was worth more than your pride, witch." Circe chuckled in response.
"You are right, Amazon. The gods looked after you and me that day. You still had your life, and I gained a second chance at facing you the right way. The same way the gods expect us to face one another. My husband fought to keep the kingdom of Colchis alive, but rejected the gods in the process. I fought in the tournament to win using my newfound abilities but rejected the gods in the process. Your sister was a true warrior. Even when she could've defeated me so easily, she stood her ground and defended herself against my attacks the best she could. No weapons. No breaking the rules. She deserved better than what I've done. She deserves to have her sister avenge her without disgracing her legacy. I will give you both that honor."
"You will concede?" Diana asked.
"I will face you one last time." Circe raises her hand up to her breast. "Neither of us have any way of escaping this fight. I promise, with every bit of truth left within me, one of us will win this fight and no one is running. No weapons. Either you kill me, or you die. I will NOT concede the chance to earn that medallion." Diana spits on the ground and raises her fists.
"Fine by me."
Circe powers her tied hand with the magic energy she used against Diana numerous times. She begins firing at the amazon, who uses her braces to deflect them as best as she could. The strength of the blasts encouraged her to spend more time dodging the blasts than guarding against them. She moves close enough to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the woman but noticed that Circe's physical attacks were far stronger than before, almost comparable to Nubia's. However, just like Nubia, Circe had never fought against mortals. Not in the way she has. Diana starts gaining the upper hand against Circe and the witch started to panic. She attempted a point-blank energy blast, only to miss as Diana quickly moved away from her hand. Circe started to slowly wrap more and more of the lasso around her wrist to draw Diana closer. Circe's blasts were becoming increasingly difficult to dodge and too powerful for Diana to defend against without her shield.
"This is where you die, Amazon!" Circe sees an opportunity for a finishing blow as she flattens her energy enhanced hand. She uses the lasso to pull Diana forward and thrusts her hand towards the amazon. Diana decides to take the full force of her attack to her head. Immediately, the strength of the woman's attack was evident as the sea far behind Diana began to split in two. Circe's eyes widened and her mouth hung open, as did Diana's. Her fingers were touching the surface of Diana's tiara. It splits in half and falls off the woman's forehead. Circe steps back in disbelief. Diana stares at it for a bit before looking back at Circe.
Diana unleashes her battle cry—a roar unlike any heard from the average amazon. She lowers her wrist to have it leveled with her waist. Raising her knee above her abdomen, the amazon slams her foot on her lasso pinning it to the ground below. Circe wails in pain, holding onto her disjointed shoulder. Her attention wondered away from the Amazonian, giving her the chance to execute her final action. Diana dismounts the shield on her back, causing it to land on the ground. She slides her left foot in the central grip and spins in a single rotation. The force of her spin pushed her much closer to Circe while pulling the witch towards her. With the distance to her liking, Diana leaps up a few inches and slams her right fist diagonally into Circe's jaw. Circe's slams face first into the ground beneath them. A splat of blood surrounded the witch's head, with more soaking into the grass. Circe's body went limp, with her buttocks staring at the risen sun above. The lasso unwrapped itself from the woman's wrist as well as Diana's.
Diana's fist was still held downward. The lack of sunlight in her face as her head hung downward brought a dark shadow over her eyes. She raised her head enough to bring color back to her eyes, staring at the motionless body of the witch. A foreboding scream came from her as the soul of the one known as Hecate rose from her body while a ghostly ball of light entered it. Diana could hear the woman struggling to breathe with her blood clogging the area between her nose and mouth.
"That was for Wonder Woman," Diana said before grabbing her lasso off the ground. A ray of light brighter than the rays provided by the sun dawned on Diana. She smiles and begins walking to her boat. However, before she gets any closer to the beach, she turns around and walks back to Circe. She grabs her shoulders and lifts her torso from the ground. She supports Circe's body with one hand and digs into the dirt in the ground around them with her other hand. After building a sizeable mound, she lays Circe on the mound with her face hanging toward the ground, elevated enough for the blood to drain from her nose onto the ground. She could hear the woman mutter thank you as she walked off.
By the evening, Diana's boat reached Themyscira. Along the beach were her many sisters cheering. Explosive arrows fired into the air and exploded like fireworks. Different colors along the spectrum brightened the skies as best they could while the sun was still visible. Diana smiles looking at the cheerful faces of the Amazons who awaited her return. Antiope and Philippus waved and stood tall with one hand resting on their hips. Orana seemed upset by Diana's return, but still applauded her for her success in defeating the Witch.
As Diana stepped onto shore, her sisters rushed to hug her one by one. She is not new to this level of praise, yet it still felt more satisfying than anything she's ever experienced; besides when she defeated Circe. Io moved in and hugged her tightly before releasing her as she started to blush.
"You actually did it! I knew you'd come back," she said.
"Of course, I had you as my—" Diana saw her mother approaching slowly. Her blank expression and clenched fist afflicted the tone of the celebration. Io leaned into Diana's ear and whispered, "how did you like the secret ingredient?"
"She turned the sword to sand the moment I stepped foot on the island."
"But the sword returned to normal?" Diana started to answer, but Hippolyta takes away her attention. Io quickly moves away from the amazon and Diana stood face to face with her mother. Hippolyta swings her hand across Diana's face before embracing her. Diana was shocked but smiled immediately after. Her mother's tears rolled along her cheeks.
"Foolish girl. What were you thinking leaving like that?" she questioned.
"While I was there, I was able to learn how you earned the title and how she lost it. The reassurance of my judgement is what led me to victory, by defeating her the right way," Diana responded. Hippolyta released her grasp from Diana. "I've said it before, I am so proud of you Diana."
"Don't celebrate too long." Orana steps forward to Diana. "I'm going to train every day until I become stronger than you. Since we no longer have witches being a burden on our duties, I can put my focus on the more important things I need to defeat you."
"I look forward to the challenge, but it will be no easy task I assure you." Antiope and Philippus hug the princess, respectively.
"I always believed in your strength. I'm glad to see the world of man hasn't interfered with your training," Antiope stated.
"Of course not," Diana responded before sighing.
"What is it, Diana," Hippolyta asked.
"I just wish Nubia were here to celebrate with us," Diana muttered.
"She gives her thanks from the heaven, Princess Diana," a voice stated. A crash of thunder landed next to Philippus, who wore a thick smiled on her face.
"You're here earlier than I called," Philippus stated. The women were confused by the man's presence. They had not seen nor heard of the man before. However, Hippolyta, Diana, Antiope, and even Orana recognized the man. Accompanying him were two masked women dressed in normal street ware.
"You may thank my subordinates for that, Philippus," he responded. "Regardless, I have come to congratulate you on your victory as well as recognize the title you now hold. I look forward to working with you in the future." Diana placed her fist over her palm and bowed to the man.
"You have my gratitude, thunder god."
End of A Woman of Wonder
I hope you all enjoyed this small story I've created. This was something I've planned for a while now and finally got around to writing it. Originally it was suppose to release AFTER I finished my 3rd & Final major story for my Mortal Kombat series, but I decided to release it earlier and make a few changes to accommodate for the time period. While I'm not entirely sure if I'll be writing anymore Wonder Woman or DC related stories in the future, the possibility is still in the air. If I do, it will most likely happen after my other projects are finished, or at least when I'm done with my Mortal Kombat related stories. I would also like to ask you all to please leave a review letting me know how you felt about the story as will as if you'd like to see more DC related stories, including remixed versions of existing "DC Events."
