Piper's POV:

After Katniss's long explanation on all the traditions of the Hunger Games, I was feeling slightly excited and nervous. I knew I'd excel in the making people like me part, for I was a daughter of Aphrodite, and I had inherited her Charmspeaking power. Sometimes I hated using it, because manipulating people to my will was not something I liked to do. Though, I do admit that it came in handy in certain cases. Many cases. Katniss had explained that this was day 2 of the week's training. I dedicated myself to training as hard as I possibly could, because the training marks are given at the end of this week. I guess I wasn't as dedicated as the others, as I could just charmspeak others into liking me. Which is what I planned to do.

I was dueling Annabeth at the other end of the training area, when the elves came in. The blonde haired one was wearing his usual smirk, which was very annoying. They all went to another corner and started doing something they had explained as splotching. Whatever that was. Annabeth's dagger came slicing close to my face, and that snapped me back to attention.

"Rule number one of fighting: no distractions." Annabeth said, bringing her hand back.

I smiled at her and surged forward, aiming the flat side of my blade at her. She parried it with her sword and gave me a blow in return. I stumbled backward and dodged it just in time. She swung left and I dodged right, and too late did I realize that she was feinting. She had me pinned down and her dagger pressed to my throat in the next few seconds.

She smiled at me, eyes blazing. "We need to work on that." She said, getting up and putting her blade away and taking a bow.

I followed her to the archery section, after we had decided earlier that we would be buddies for the day. She pulled a bow from the stand, picked out a few arrows, knocked one on her bow and fired at the targets. Beside her, I did the same.

Biana POV:

As we were in a corner, practicing splotching, I looked over and saw Annabeth and Piper, the demigods, dueling. I tried not to be intimidated by their fighting skills, reminding myself that our power comes from the mind, and that we were a team now, but that didn't stop me from admiring them and hoping we could have trained physical combat better. I watched them walk to the archery and I saw Annabeth hit all the targets close to bulls eye, hitting a couple precisely in the middle as well. How we were going to beat her in training scores, we did not know. Fitz caught my attention by throwing a splotcher in my direction. I only just caught it, hovering a few centimeters off the ground. I lifted it back up and whipped it as hard as I could with my mind, back in his direction. It hit him straight in the stomach and threw it back at me, interrupted by Sophie, Keefe and Dex's splotchers.

"Hey!" I yelled to them, because, after all, what else were siblings for?

"Don't make us miss out on the fun!" Keefe replied, flinging his splotcher in Fitz's direction. Fitz and Sophie caught it with their minds at the same time, causing the splotcher to jerk forward. Sophie dropped it from her mind control and Fitz threw it back to Keefe's direction. This time, Keefe caught it and threw it to Dex, I think because he didn't do anything yet. Soon enough, everyone was on the ground laughing and covered with bright colors, the floor messy too. Though no one was expecting it when Keefe yelled "I'VE GOT ONE MORE LEFT" and pelted it at Fitz. That was how Fitz's hair got its bright pink color. That also caused everyone to laugh. I didn't realize until the end, that Piper and Annabeth were staring at our mess, not with disapproval. So were the rest of the demigods that arrived. So were the divergents. And the original tributes. Basically everyone. Then the laughing started up again. Though in my head, I couldn't help but be relieved that no one thought us useless.
