Someone asked about this classic song from Robin Hood, so enjoy your request! I thought it would be fun if, as he and Chancellor Esteban prepare for their word game in theblindwriter95's and my story Vacation in Avalor, James helps cheer up Elena after she has a nightmare. Some people in Avalor also get to learn a favorite game from Enchancia afterward, but they all have fun as they wait for a special game night. Thanks to theblindwriter95 for helping with the story. Thanks also to Niagara14301 for helping with a few details and lyrics. Robin Hood's music is not mine.
When Elena was awake after her nap, she was feeling much better. She'd had a nightmare about Shuriki doing to her what she'd done to her namesake, and she had been terrified. She looked up to see Nell at a small table with Queen Elena, and they were having tea as they looked over at her.
"Mommy!" Elena called as she sat up. She gave Kitty and her new sister Pinky a hug. "We safe, Kitty! We okay, Pinky!"
"That's good to hear, Love Bug," Nell smiled.
"I'm glad to hear that," Queen Elena smiled. "We wouldn't want you to be upset when we watch James and Esteban play their games tonight!"
"They sing too?" Elena asked.
"I hope so," Queen Elena smiled. "You told me that James loves singing, and I can't wait to hear him!"
Elena giggled, dropping her kitties so she could hug her namesake. Though the mean lady came to her again as Elena backed away and accidentally tripped on Kitty.
"Are you all right, Love Bug?" Nell asked, helping her up.
Elena watched Queen Elena pick up Kitty before she looked away from her mommy. Nell smiled sympathetically and stroked her hair.
It wasn't her first time dealing with Elena and her nightmare about the mean lady. It had been long before Ricky had been born with Elena and Gabby just transitioning to their big girl beds.
"Everything's going to be all right, Elena," Nell smiled. "It was just a dream, and you know dreams can't hurt you. See?" she lifted Kitty and Pinky up. "Kitty's safe, and so is Pinky."
"You okay, Kitty?" Elena asked. When Nell made Kitty nod, Elena asked, "You okay, Pinky?"
Queen Elena made Pinky nod, and she said as she hugged her namesake, "They're both fine, sweetheart. You're all going to be just fine."
"You know what you need?" Nell suggested, "I bet James could use a break from practicing for that game with Chancellor Esteban tonight."
"We get James?" Elena giggled.
"Actually, Love Bug, this won't be like one of our games," Nell smirked.
"You mean I get to hear James sing?" Queen Elena teased.
"Yeah!" Elena giggled, flapping her hands.
"And if you want, we can get James in a way, we can bring him here so he can help you too," Queen Elena agreed, having learned what 'get James' meant when she saw them tickle James as he tried to work on a word puzzle.
"Okay!" Elena agreed.
By now, Gabby was awake, and she was sitting up with her jaquin Lily. "Get James?" she asked, hearing one of the family's favorite games.
"Get him as in bring him here to sing for you and Elena," Nell smiled. "But we can do the other 'get James' again later."
"Okay!" Gabby giggled. "Elena okay?"
"She's just fine," Queen Elena smiled. "She had a bad dream about Shuriki, but she understands that dreams can't hurt you, right, Gabby?"
"Yeah! Mommy and Daddy always say that about doggies hurting me," Gabby smiled.
"Don't worry, Gabby, you know that most dogs are all right," Queen Elena smiled. "And if there are big dogs around, you know to stay away from them, and the people will keep an eye on them."
"Okay," Gabby smiled, hugging Lily.
"Did I hear someone ask for me?" they head James' voice in the doorway.
"James!" Elena smiled as she ran over and hugged him. "You got your Kitty too?"
"Yes, Elena, Zebra's right here," James smiled, holding up his new black and white friend. "Bobby Lee's bringing his and Nell's kitties here too."
"I've got them, and my guitar so I can accompany him," Bobby Lee smiled, handing Nell her blue and silver kitty Bluebell, and holding up his brown and yellow kitty Sergeant.
"We might have to get Abuelo in here so he can accompany you or write the song down so he can sing it later," Queen Elena smiled.
"Write song!" Elena cheered.
"Please?" Gabby begged.
"Well, Daddy made it up long before Ricky was born," Nell smiled.
"Why?" Elena asked. "Mean lady never came in my dream before!"
"But we used to read the story before you were born," Nell smiled. "And I remember Daddy would go around singing it to himself when he was on guard duty."
"The guards always told him the song was stuck in their heads afterward," James agreed.
"What can I say?" Bobby Lee grinned. "James is just that good with words!"
"He is indeed, Robert," Nell smirked.
"Though I do remember reading the story again when Elena and Gabby were two," Bobby Lee recalled. "The girls had just moved from cribs to big girl beds and they couldn't sleep..."
"And Nell got mad at you because she woke up in the middle of the night to two crying toddlers," James smirked.
"But luckily, you were there to help sing the girls to sleep again," Bobby Lee smiled.
"Oh, yes," Nell smirked. "We had to bring you to the girls' room to help us. But the song you did was so pretty! You had to sing it for me again the next day and Robert and I taped it so we could learn the song."
"But at least by then I was singing with my door open again," James smirked.
"Oh, yes, Sofia told me about that," Queen Elena murmured. "You lost your voice at your birth mother's funeral and wouldn't sing in public. But at least in another letter Sofia wrote, she said you were singing around your castle and in public again."
"James sing please!" Elena shouted.
"I'm getting to that, Elena," James smirked as both Elenas looked at him.
"Wait your turn!" Gabby added with a giggle.
"Someone's going to sing?" Francisco smiled as he entered. "Wonderful! I've heard that Prince James is a talented musician, and I think we should hear him sing, shouldn't we?"
"And we'd love to hear him," Queen Elena smiled. "Abuelo, do you think you could find another guitar for James? I see you've got yours, and Robert has his."
"I'm sure I can find something," Francisco smiled. He left the room, but he came back a minute later with another guitar. "Here you go, Prince James," he said as he handed it to him.
"Thank you, Mr. Francisco," James smiled as he accepted it.
"Sing now?" Elena asked.
"Yes, Love Bug. Sing now," Bobby Lee smiled, mussing her hair.
"When I tell Miss Milly that Elena was pay-sent when we get back to preschool, she'll be happy," Gabby smiled.
"Yes she will," Nell smiled. "You've both gotten particularly good at sharing and being patient, and I'm sure she'll be very proud of you."
"And there's something special about the guitar I gave to young Prince James," Francisco smiled, holding out the guitar to James. "This guitar belonged to my daughter Lucia. I'm sure she'd want someone who loves music as much as she did to have it."
Queen Elena's eyes filled with tears. "Mami's guitar," she murmured. "She taught me how to play it when I was younger. May I?" When James and Francisco nodded, she took it and strummed a few notes.
"Queen Elena, since this means so much to you, you can keep it. I don't want to take it away from you," James offered.
"I can help with that, Prince James," Mateo smiled as he came in. "I was taking a break from my new potions, and I heard you talking." He aimed his tambourita at the guitar. "Copia esto!" The guitar glowed, and a second guitar appeared next to the original.
"There you go, Queen Elena," James smiled, holding out the original to her. "Now we can each have a guitar."
"Yay!" Elena giggled, flapping her hands. "Sing now! Please?"
"All right sweetheart. Since you've been so patient," Queen Elena smiled. "Prince James, do you mind doing the honors?"
"Of course not! I'd love to," James smiled.
"What song are you going to do?" Mateo asked.
"Oh, just a little thing Bobby Lee and I made up," James grinned. "He wrote down the words and music for me, but we can make a copy of it for you too."
"You're not going to sing that song for Queen Elena, are you?" they heard Sofia's voice in the doorway.
"They wanted to hear it," James grinned, seeing her, Amber, Roland, and Miranda enter. "And who am I to refuse singing to someone?"
"Don't worry, Sofia; I know you're not partial to the song, but we'll get him later," Roland whispered to Sofia.
"I hope so!" Sofia gave James a mock frown. "But we'll let you sing the song first."
"Thanks, Sof!" James grinned as he took up his guitar and accompanied himself as he sang, Oh, the world will sing of an Avaloran Queen
A thousand years from now
And not because she passed some laws
Or had that lofty brow
While that old King Hector sails
The great big boat he's on
We'll all have to slave away
For that good-for-nothin' Shuriki
Gabby giggled as James sung while Elena frowned, cuddling Kitty close. She couldn't believe he was singing about Shuriki.
James grinned as he heard Gabby giggle as he sang, Incredible as she is inept
Whenever the history books are kept
They'll call her the phony queen of Avalor
Bobby Lee grinned as he sang with him, A pox on the phony queen of Avalor!
As she laughed at the song, Nell noticed Elena's frown and took her in her arms. "It's only a silly song Love Bug," she smiled. "You like silly songs, don't you?"
"Yeah, but why James and Daddy singing about the mean lady?" Elena asked.
"They want to tell you that Shuriki's not worth being scared about," Queen Elena smiled. "Yes, she can be scary, but if you think of this song the next time someone reads you the story, you'll be okay."
"Music makes it all better!" Gabby smiled, remembering something James said to her and Elena when they had nightmares and he sang to them.
"It sure does," Sofia agreed. "But we'll get James later for this."
"Just not while he's singing," Miranda smiled.
Elena smiled a little at James' song. Even if Shuriki was scary, the song he and Bobby Lee were singing was funny.
Gabby noticed her smile, nuzzling Lily against Elena, who giggled.
At the same time, Bobby Lee was singing, She sits alone on the giant throne
Pretendin' she's the queen
A little tyke who's rather like
A puppet on a string
And she throws an angry tantrum
If she cannot have her way
And then she calls for Esteban while she's suckin' her thumb
You see, she doesn't want to play
Esteban frowned at how he was portrayed in the song, but Queen Elena giggled, "Oh, lighten up, cousin, you know it's all in good fun! And I guess they had to make it rhyme somehow!"
"This is true," Esteban admitted, "And I admit that this is rather amusing."
Mateo was laughing too. "You should have sung this when you led the original attack on Shuriki!"
"Oh, well, maybe next time," Sofia joked.
"Sofia, I thought you didn't like this song," Amber teased her.
"That one line, no, but I like everything else," Sofia smirked.
"Both Elenas seem to like it too," Nell smiled, taking Elena's hand and started dancing with her.
At the same time, James joined Bobby Lee on the chorus, Too late to be known as Shuriki the First
She's sure to be known as Shuriki the Worst
A pox on that phony queen of Avalor!
Bobby Lee grinned, Lay that country on me, James!
"I dance too!" Gabby giggled.
"I'll be honored to dance with you Gabby," Sofia offered, holding out her hand.
Gabby giggled as Sofia spun her around the floor. She even incorporated some of the dance steps Elena made up into her physical therapy. "You like the song, Sofia?" she asked.
"It's okay," Sofia smiled. "I'm not too fond of how I was incorporated into the song, but I know it's all in good fun."
"That's right," James grinned. "We wanted to include you in the song, and we had to make it rhyme somehow!"
At that moment, Bobby Lee was starting the last verse, While she taxes us to pieces
And she robs us of our bread
Queen Lucia's crown just can't stay on
Shuriki's swelled-up head
"We can't get James soon enough," Sofia whispered to Gabby.
Nell smirked as she overheard her. "Don't worry, even though we all like the song and it's all in good fun, we'll still get James for putting that in!"
"Yeah! Get James!" Elena giggled as she looked at her namesake. "You want to get James too?"
"Why not? It could be fun," Queen Elena smiled.
"Yay!" Elena cheered, jumping up and down.
"At least let's wait until they finish the song," Roland smirked.
At the same time, James was singing, Ah! But while there is a merry beast
In Skylar's wily pack
We'll find a way to make her pay
And steal the money back
A minute before she knows we're there
Sofia'll snatch her underwear
When it got to the line Sofia didn't like, even she had to smile, knowing that James would pay soon enough.
Meanwhile, unaware of what was going to happen next, James and Bobby Lee were finishing the song, The breezy and uneasy queen of Avalor
The snivellin', grovellin'
Measly, weasely
Blabberin', jabberin'
Gibberin', jabberin'
Plunderin', plottin'
Wheelin', dealin'
Shuriki, that phony queen of Avalor
Yeah!
As everyone applauded when the song ended, Esteban smiled as he stood up. "Well, this was entertaining," he said as he made his way to the door, "Thank you for letting me visit with you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I want to get a little more practicing in before Prince James and I have our word game."
"Okay, cousin," Queen Elena smiled. "We'll see you later."
"Now we get James?" Elena smiled mischievously.
"Please?" Gabby added.
"Let's see what Queen Elena says," Nell smirked.
"James, that was a wonderful song you made up," Queen Elena smiled. "Yes, I know, Robert sang it too, but since you were the one who came up with the idea, I think the girls would like to give you something!"
"If it's what I think it is, I think I'll pass!" James said as he recognized the looks on the girls' faces and backed away, only to bump into Roland.
"Nice try, James, but Sofia said she wants payback for how she was used in the song!" Roland smirked.
"Sof, it was all in fun! And besides, Bobby Lee was playing the song too!" James protested.
"But you were the one who came up with the idea and how you used Sofia like that," Bobby Lee smirked.
"And now we get you!" Elena giggled.
"What about Ricky?" Gabby frowned. "He'll miss all the fun!"
"He's taking a nap anyway," Bobby Lee smiled as they pinned James on the bed. "My mother's watching him, and Bianca's with Ms. Luisa, Madeline, and Sabrina in the gardens."
"And Isa said she was making a new toy for Ricky too," Queen Elena smiled. "She'll show it to us when she's ready."
"Is it a kitty toy?" Elena asked hopefully.
"We'll see," Sofia smiled, noticing Pinky and nuzzling her against James.
"Hey! Cut it out, Sof!" James laughed as he tried to fight of Roland and Bobby Lee at the same time.
"You promise never to tease me like that in song again?" Sofia smirked, putting Pinky down and dancing her fingers over him.
"Yes! Whatever you want!" James pleaded, seeing Roland pick up another kitty to nuzzle against him. "Dad, no! Not Zebra!"
"What, he can't learn a favorite game of ours?" Roland smirked, nuzzling Zebra against his cheek.
"Good one, Roland!" Bobby Lee grinned.
"Well played, Dad!" James smirked.
"Lily learns too!" Gabby giggled, nuzzling her jaquin against James' cheek.
"Poor James. You've been defeated by kitties!" Nell teased. She noticed Elena adorably putting her hands on her hips and smiled. "I know teasing's bad, Love Bug, but here, it's okay."
"Okay. But don't do it no more or you get time out!" Elena declared.
"Time-outs don't work on me!" James smirked, trying to swat Kitty away.
"That's right, We can't punish you properly if you do something wrong," Roland smirked, knowing that when James wasn't doing something school or the knights or practicing Dazzleball, he was helping someone around the castle or in his room working on papers.
"But I suppose he does respond fairly well to this," Queen Elena joked.
"A little kitty torture never hurt anyone," Bobby Lee agreed.
"We give James kitty face?" Elena asked.
"A little nose and maybe some ears too," Nell smiled.
"No, I think just the face will be enough," Queen Elena smirked as she found some brushes and pots of paint. "And James, you're going to wear that kitty face when you play your game!"
"Yeah!" Gabby giggled.
"Can-sue-her like kitties?" Elena asked.
"Yes, he does," Queen Elena smiled. "And I think he'll like seeing James with a kitty face too!"
"Normally I would against something like this but since James added me in his song, I guess it's okay just this once," Sofia smiled, taking one of the brushes and painted a whisker on her brother's face.
"No! Not again with the kitty face!" James pleaded.
"You make a cute kitty, James!" Gabby giggled, painting another whisker.
"He certainly does," Miranda smiled. "I saw his first kitty makeover during your and Elena's fashion show with your daddy, and he looked so cute that time too!"
"We sing the kitty song too?" Elena asked.
"If you must," Bobby Lee smirked, "But how about you sing it during James' game with Mr. Esteban? I'm sure he'd love to hear it then!"
"Okay!" Elena giggled.
"If you must!" James laughed under everyone.
