flashback

"See, that's what I love about you," He says, "You get me."

"Love about me?" She whispers, breath hitching.

"Love about you," He responds, grasping her waist and pulling her forward, lips meeting hers, and she feels it through her whole being.

Harvey pulls her closer, so much closer she feels like she might snap in half and it's intense and makes her insides twist with how much she loves this man and how amazing it is that she can finally hear him say these words to her and mean them, with no intention of taking them back.

She turns them around and pushes him back towards the couch as she straddles his lap and the kiss breaks. Then, they're just smiling at each other so wide it's almost foolish and her hands trace the dips and curves of his face.

He's smiling at her and as she grazes over his jaw, she's suddenly transported into a flashback where he was wearing a vest not a sweater and he was saying those same words with such gravel in his voice that she could tell it was almost breaking him in half and she was left with a gaping mouth and a question in her eyes.

She remembers feeling flabbergasted long after the door shut on his back and she remembers feeling a sense of dread that things were changed forever. She loved him then and she loves him now, though the love has evolved and changed, shrank and grew.

But, now, she knows that this moment, tonight, is different than years ago. This moment is wrapped in promises for the future not misfires of what could be.

Just as he had said, they're finally where they're suppose to be.
