Sofia2017 planning asked about this song from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, so enjoy your request! I thought it would be nice if, as a deleted scene from chapter 40 of theblindwriter95's collection Family Love, or a follow-up to chapter 23 of Do You Want to Sing Together XXIII, Roland sings a song to James to help him feel better, since he's feeling a little jealous of Amber's new friendship with her plush friend. Little does he know that Tilly and Melinda will help James feel better too, but the three adults will know that everything will turn out all right in the end. Thanks to Sofia2017 planning for helping with the story. Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood is not mine.
Amber and James woke up after their naps, and they were ready to play again. Or rather, Amber was excited to play with her new friend, a pink cat she named Duchess Kitty in honor of Aunt Tilly. She'd had such a nice dream where they were playing together, and she was eager to play with her for real again now.
However, James really wanted to play with her, but he hadn't had the chance since their birthday two days ago. He felt that Amber was spending too much time with Duchess Kitty, and she didn't like him anymore.
He thought he'd try one more time to get Amber's attention, then ask Mommy or Daddy to help him ask Amber to play with him. He gave his own kitty, a white tiger he named Prince Blizzard, a hug, then went to find his sister.
He came up to Amber while she was dancing and asked, "Amber play?"
"Kitty-kitty...La-la-la..." Amber sang as she gave her pink kitty a hug.
"Amber? Play with me?" James asked again, thinking that she hadn't heard him as she sang the 'la-la-la' song that he made up and they both liked.
"Kitty dance...La-la-la..." Amber sang as she twirled around with her kitty.
James' eyes filled with tears. It was clear that Amber didn't like him anymore, since he must have done something. "I bad boy..." he sniffled as he took Prince Blizzard and went over to the time-out corner.
At that moment, Baileywick came up, and seeing him on his little stool, when it was clear that he hadn't done anything wrong, asked, "Prince James, is everything all right?"
"I bad boy..." James sniffled as he looked up.
"That can't be true," Baileywick murmured. "You've been very good, and you can't have done anything wrong; you and Princess Amber woke up from your naps a short time ago."
He looked up, hearing, "What's wrong?" Roland came in the room and saw James in time-out. "James? Baileywick, what's going on?"
"I'm not sure, your majesty," Baileywick admitted. "Prince James has somehow convinced himself that he's a bad boy, and he's put himself in time-out."
"I'm sure we can figure it out," Roland assured him. He tapped James' shoulder. "James? Is everything all right?"
James looked up and shook his head. "No…I bad boy…"
"Just because you had a nightmare?" Roland asked, taking him in his arms and settling down with him in one of the rocking chairs. "That can't be right. But don't worry. We'll figure out what's wrong, and we'll get you cheered up too."
Baileywick nodded beside him. He remembered hearing Roland and Tilly sing to James earlier following a nightmare, and how James had felt better, since he always responded well to music. He also knew that Amber could sleep through everything, and probably hadn't heard him crying. "I remember a song your mother sang to you when you were younger, when your sister 'borrowed' your horse. She sang it to you after she sent your sister to her room, and you calmed down and were able to forgive her."
"I know the one you mean," Roland smirked. "That did work, and I was able to forgive her. But then she got the horse she'd been hoping for too, during Wassalia that year!"
"Shall I find the tape for you?" Baileywick suggested.
"Go ahead," Roland smiled. "This can give us a little father-son time."
Baileywick smiled. "Alright. And don't worry, Prince James, everything's going to be just fine."
Roland smiled as he started rocking James again. "Baileywick's right, James; everything's going to be just fine. You have nothing to worry about. You're not in trouble, so don't think that you're a bad boy."
"But Amber don't like me no more!" James sniffled.
Roland looked over to where Amber was dancing with her kitty. "I'm sure that's not true," he assured him, "Amber loves you very much." They sat in silence for a few moments, then Roland smiled when he saw Baileywick returning with a tape. "I remember when I was feeling upset with your aunt Tilly. Our mother sang a song that made me feel much better, and helped me to forgive her. Would you like to hear it?"
James nodded. "Okay..."
Roland smiled. "Okay..."
He gave James a hug as he sang softly, What do you do with the mad that you feel
When you feel so mad you could bite?
When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong...
And nothing you do seems very right?
James looked up when he heard the music begin, but he was still feeling too sad to join in with the 'la-la-la' song.
Roland picked up Prince Blizzard and gave him to James as he continued, What do you do? Do you punch a bag?
Do you pound some clay or some dough?
Do you round up friends for a game of tag?
Or see how fast you go?
"Don't be sad, James," Roland changed his voice a little to make it seem like Prince Blizzard was talking to him. "We all love you. You're a good boy!"
James smiled a little. "Thank you, Prince Bliz-zard," he said as he leaned back in Roland's arms.
Roland gently mussed his hair as he continued in his regular voice, It's great to be able to stop
When you've planned a thing that's wrong,
And be able to do something else instead
And think this song:
Baileywick came in just as Roland was finishing the song.
I can stop when I want to
Can stop when I wish
I can stop, stop, stop any time.
And what a good feeling to feel like this
And know that the feeling is really mine.
Know that there's something deep inside
That helps us become what we can.
For a girl can be someday a woman
And a boy can be someday a man.
As Roland was giving James a hug as the song ended, Baileywick said, "King Roland, forgive the interruption, but you are needed in the throne room."
"Why?" James asked, since he was feeling a little better.
"Well, Prince James, King Nassir from Khaldoun is here to see your father," Baileywick explained. "He's in the throne room waiting for him right now."
"Very well, Baileywick, let's go see him," Roland agreed. He gave James a hug as he helped him off his lap. "Don't worry, James, this shouldn't take more than a few minutes. I'll be back to sing with you and Prince Blizzard after my meeting, okay?"
"Okay," James said at last.
Roland smiled. "Okay. I'll be back soon," As he made his way out of the room, he saw Amber twirling around with her kitty. "Amber, why don't you play with James? He was asking for you a little bit ago."
"Okay," Amber nodded, but she started dancing with Duchess Kitty again after he left. "Dutch-ess Kitty, let's finish dance, then play with James!" She gave her a hug, but she suddenly heard a rip. "Dutch-ess Kitty!" she cried as she ran off with her. "I get Mommy! She help you!"
"Amber?" James asked. When he saw that Amber was gone, James gave up on the idea of playing with Amber, and took Prince Blizzard back to the time-out corner with him.
At the same time, Roland saw Tilly coming toward him. "How's James doing?" she greeted him.
"He's feeling a little sad, but I'm sure he'll feel better before long," Roland smiled. "I just sang that song Mother sang to me after you rode my horse."
"All these years and you still remember that," Tilly chuckled. "I said I was sorry when it happened! And I didn't get off easily either! Grounded for a week, and I had to help Mum replant those flowers!"
"But we both know that wasn't really a punishment for you," Roland smirked. "You always enjoyed working in the gardens with Mother, but you agreed with staying away from the horses for a week!"
"That's true," Tilly grinned, "But at least I got my own horse that same year for Wassalia! And I promised to keep her away from the flowers!" She and Roland laughed for a moment, then Tilly suggested, "Why don't you go see what King Nasir has to say, and I'll check on James?"
"All right," Roland agreed. "I'll finish up my business with King Nasir as soon as I can, then I'll come check on you and James."
"Sounds like a plan, baby brother, I mean king baby brother!" Tilly smiled, "But don't worry, I'll have James feeling better before you know it!"
