The elevator opens and he makes his way through the doors to the entrance of his condo, jangling his keys in his pocket.
He's exhausted. It was yet another fourteen hour day, the third one in a row. This case was slowly but surely going to kill him.
He used to love work, he used to thrive in it. He still loves what he does but since things have shifted for him personally, since he crossed that threshold of emotions, metaphorically and literally, he finds himself dreading going to the office. He longs for the early mornings with her wrapped in the grey sheets of his bed, hugging her close yearning for her to wake up, just to see what she might say.
Opening the door, he once again notes to himself how goddamn lucky he is, even if work is shit. As he turns the corner preparing to put his keys down on the counter, he stops in his tracks.
She was here, waiting for him. Goddamnit, he loves that. He loves coming home to her.
Glancing at his watch, he notices it's nearing eleven so he's not surprised in the slightest to see that she's cuddled up on his couch, breathing even with sleep, wrapped in one of his shirts and leggings.
As he pads over to her, he immediately hits his knees and brushes the hair back from her forehead tucking it behind her ear, attempting to rouse her from sleep gently. Her breathing grows shallow and he knows she can sense his presence.
Her eyes blink open and she utters out a soft and raspy, "Hi."
"Hey," he responds, smiling all the way to his eyes.
"I tried to wait for you, but I guess I passed out," she responds sheepishly.
He takes a moment to let his eyes trace her features, noting the freckles on her cheeks and nose, face free of makeup, looking every bit as beautiful as she did when they left together this morning all done up.
"I don't care," he whispers softly, "You're here. That's all that matters."
"Let's go to bed, Harvey," she says, smiling and sitting up, pulling him to his feet.
He follows behind her, hand in hers, letting her lead him to comfort just like she's always done. Just like he knows she always will.
