CH 3: Magic
Kiritsugu put on a thoughtful look on his face, no doubt thinking if he should teach me or not. I've been thinking recently about learning magic considering the fact that I'm in this world, I need to be able to defend myself, and no doubt I will probably be involved in the Fifth war. I don't want to be useless like Shiro at the beginning of the series, so I'm gonna try my best at learning magic. If Kiritsugu doesn't teach me then I have no choice but to teach myself or get someone else to teach me. I saw Kiritsugu look in my eyes and he looked like he saw something, and then he sighed. "If you give me such a determined look I can't really deny it, besides considering you have mystic eyes it's probably best you learn how to defend yourself." I then saw Shiro walk up to us and he asked " Can I learn as well?" He sighed again then said " Might as well teach the both of you since I'm teaching one of you. Now where should I start?..."
Another week passed before we started learning anything about magic, and we were now in the dojo of the house sitting in front of Kiritsugu. He looked at the both of us and said " Now, for me to teach you magic properly I have to know your elements, origin, and how many magic circuits you have. Do you need me to explain what these things are?" I already knew what they were considering my visions, but to keep up appearances I nodded along with Shiro. He smiled and said "Well to put it simply your magic affinity will determine what type of magic you can use like for example fire, water, you get the picture right?" The both of us nodded our heads and he continued " Origins are a little more complicated. It's like instincts in a way, once your origin is activated you can't really go against it. Hmm… Origins can pretty much be anything for example mine is Severing and binding, while William's is clairvoyance. These dictate what actions you make and can help you overcome great obstacles that normal magi can't."
I had to admit it was a rather crude and vague description, but it explains it I guess. He looked at us confirming that we understood what he was saying. Shiro looked a little lost while I looked somewhat excited. He laughed and said "Well, overtime you'll understand it better. Now, magic circuits. It's what your mana flows through, each person has a limited number of these and the quality of them varies from person to person. For instance I have 25 magic circuits that are slightly above average in quality. For reference an average mage would have 20 magic circuits, also note that the older the family the more circuits they have." Shiro and I both nodded to his words as we were listening to him. He then continued and said " Now, do you want to know how many circuits you have along with your element, and origin?" The both of us nodded eagerly at his words and he laughed.
"Ok, well I already know about you Will. You have 100 magic circuits with them being at a great quality, and you have all the five basic elements. Honestly, I'm quite surprised about this." 'What…', from the visions while I was in the muck I believe that's the highest a human has had besides servants, gods, and Homunculi. He then turned to Shiro and said " Now I don't know what you have so I'll have to scan you like I did to Will, that ok?" Shiro nodded his head and with that Kiritsugu scanned him like he did with me. After he was done he had a surprised look on his face and he said " Well, you have 27 magic circuits but what's really surprising is your magic element and origin. They're the same." Shiro looked surprised and I asked "What are they?" Kiritsugu took a breath and said "Swords." With that said our training started and two years passed…
Two years have passed since the fire and Kiritsugu adopting Shiro, and I. The training was hard and still is and if not for me pointing out to Shiro about how he was using his magic circuits, then he probably wouldn't be able to walk right now. Yes, I can now control my eyes and I can now see a person's magic circuits, the mana that flows in them along with the mana in the air. Naturally I can see through people's clothes and what not to see this. If I had to describe something similar to it, it would be close to having the Byakugan from Naruto. Although I wonder what the control aspect of my eyes mean, I'll have to ask dad about that. Last year Fuji-nee came over to the house and now she frequently visits us. Every now and then Dad would go and when he left he left Fuji-nee to babysit us, of course, she doesn't know about our magical practices.
When teaching us Kiritsugu said he would teach us the basics; how to control our mana, recognizing bounded fields, and some basic spells. Of course since Shiro doesn't have an elemental affinity he can't use that type of magic. Although to be fair, elemental magic is out of my reach at the moment as well, and I can only do something basic like repairing a broken window with magic. Lately, I've noticed that Kiritsugu's condition is getting worse. I can see something swirling around in his magic circuits when I focus really hard and when I asked him about it he said it was a curse. I then proceeded to suggest using his origin on it since his origin is severing and binding and he said that if he were to do that the part of the body that has the curse would become inoperable. At the rate the curse has been going since I first met him I think he only has about three years left…
I sighed laying down in the grass in the backyard of the house. At the moment Kiritsugu is out of the house and if I had to guess he is probably looking for his daughter. I sighed again 'So, what am I gonna do? The fifth war is in 8 years… Should I tell Kiritsugu? It would probably be for the best considering he has experience, and can teach us better to be prepared for it.' After that thought Shiro sat down next to me and handed me a box that was wrapped. I looked at it and asked "What is this for?" He smiled and said "I remember you said last week that your birthday was today so with some help with Fuji-nee I got you this." I opened it up and inside was a silver necklace. I looked at Shiro and he was holding up a similar necklace like mine and he said " I decided to get matching necklaces for us…" Before he could respond however I already wrapped him in a hug and said "Thanks." He returned it and after separating I put it on. I then looked at Shiro and asked " You ready for school tomorrow?" He nodded his head with a grin on his face and said "Yep!"
After a little while I found myself sitting cross legged in the middle of my room. I was moving my man's throughout me as a form of training and was thinking as well. 'In fate/zero most people got their command spells before the war… Fate/SN people summoned servants and the grail barely did any interfering well, at the start anyways… If I'm gonna be in this then I want to summon my own servant. Now there are seven classes… Archer, Berserker, Caster, Saber, Lancer, Assassin, and Rider… essentially a fight to the death.' I sighed feeling my mana flow through me. 'Alright the best servant for me would either have to be assassin or caster. I would like to have Caster, but I can deal with having Assassin.' Before I could continue my thought, the door to my room opened revealing Kiritsugu.
I raised an eyebrow and asked " When did you get back?" He chuckled and said while sitting in front of me " Just a moment ago. Shirk said you wanted to talk to me?" At this point I stopped manually moving my man's and looked into Kiritsugu's eyes and nodded. "Yes, it's about the fire…"
