On September 29, singer Mac Davis passed away at age 78.
When Hugo learns that he's not going to be on the Flying Derby team in Just One of the Princes, and as he watches one of his fans pass him by, he sings a song that always made him feel better in the past. He thinks of all the times he's been mean to Sofia and James, and he learns that he's got to clean up his act if he wants to get on their good side again. Mac Davis' music is not mine, and on a more serious note, rest in peace, Mac Davis.
Hugo: Back a few months ago, I was trying out for the Flying Derby
And I was doing everything right since I'm the best rider in the school
And I was doing my best in the tryout race, even if a princess has to race too
Now here I am, coming in third behind James and his sister
And I see one of my fans coming toward me
but she passes by me without a second thought and I'm left alone
...All by myself
[James and Sofia:] Awwww!
Hugo: Yeah, that's what I said, "Awwww"
But I did what I've always done, man, to cheer myself up
I picked up my guitar, I sat down and I wrote me a little song
Now this is how it feels to be alone at the top of the hill
Tryin' to figure out why
(sings) Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
'Cause I get better lookin' each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble
But I'm doin' the best that I can
(spoken): Ah, Princess Amber!
Amber (spoken): Schmuck!
Hugo (watching her go to James and Sofia): I used to have a girlfriend,
But I guess she just couldn't compete,
With all of these love-starved women,
Who keep cowering at my feet
Oh I probably could find me another,
But I guess they're all in awe of me
Who cares?
I never get lonesome
Cause I treasure my own company
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
Hugo: (James and Sofia sing backup): I can't wait to look in the mirror
(Help me out now! Come on)
I get better looking each day
(To know me is to what?)
To know me is to love me
(Must be a hell of man)
I must be a hell of a man
(James: Oh Lord It's hard)
Oh Lord It's hard to be humble,
(Sofia: When you're doing what?)
We're doing the best that we can
Hugo: I guess you could say I'm a loner
A prince out lone, tough, and proud
I could have lots of friends if I wanted
But then I wouldn't stand out from the crowd
Some folks say that I'm egotistical
Hell I don't even know what that means
I guess it has something to do
With the way that I fill out my skintight blue jeans
(spoken): Where's all the kickers in here?
(sings) Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
(James: When you're perfect in every way)
When you're perfect in every way
(Sofia: Can't wait to look in the mirror)
I can't wait to look in the mirror
(James: 'Cause I get better looking)
I get better looking each day
(Sofia: To know me is to what?)
To know me is to love me
(James: Must be a hell of man)
I must be a hell of a man
(Sofia: Oh Lord It's hard)
Oh Lord It's hard to be humble,
(James: What are we doing?)
We're doing the best that we can
Hugo: One more time, what are we doing?
Everyone: We're doing the best that we can
Hugo (spoken): Give yourselves a hand! Yee haw!
