Patton opened the homeroom door and Virgil walking in "Excuse me Patton you know the rules no servants in the classrooms" A snobbish voice said from the front of the room.
Patton walked into the room and said "Oh Virgil is a new kid on scholarship he is no servant."
The teacher scoffed and said "Sander's doesn't give out scholarships only the best of the best attend here not desperate beggars."
Virgil blushed a deep red but said in a steady tone "I am not a beggar and you implied that you know all the rules of this school is that correct."
"Why yes, it is but just because you are observant doesn't mean you aren't a beggar" The teacher said.
"Then why aren't you following the dress code set out for the teachers" Virgil asked while hiding a small smirk.
"There is no dress code for teacher you stupid child now out of my sight before I punish you" The teacher ordered pointing to the door he had just come through." Virgil didn't say anything he just retrieved a book from his tattered backpack and started to flip through the pages. All the students could see that it was the official rule book of Sander's it was large, thick and the only person that truly enforced it was their homeroom teacher. "What are you doing I ordered you to leave" The teacher exclaimed slowly growing more annoyed.
Virgil still ignored her then after a few more moments of silence Virgil made a small noise at the back of his throat then said "Do you both agree that this is the official rule book" When the teacher nodded annoyed Virgil continued "It says right here and I'm paraphrasing female teachers of Sander's must wear skirts below the knee and shirts or dresses that go to the elbow also they may only wear one piece of jewelry unless said jewelry comes in a set shall I continue." Her clothes while not to code weren't revealing but that part of the rule book was almost never updated her skirt was halfway to her knee and her shirt was a short-sleeve also her jewelry was a pair of black studs and a pink necklace so not to code.
"What!" The teacher quickly went to her own rule book and flipped through it until she came to the dress code and when she saw the teacher dress code she paled. 'How did you know this?!"
"Well I looked through to make sure y'all rich people didn't have some weird ass rules" Virgil stated and without another word he put the book away and walked to one of the open seats and sat down while putting his bag on the floor beside him. Patton was in shock just like the rest of the class but mentally shook his head and walked to his seat which was right next to Virgil's. The rest of the morning followed similar trends every-time the teacher was elitist or rude he would suppose them with his smarts wither it be street or book smarts.
"Patton is any of it true" Roman asked when Patton dragged Virgil over to Patton's usual lunch table.
"Why don't you ask Virgil" Patton said excitedly while he was talking the rest of the group joined them.
"I have heard some interesting rumors about you Virgil" Logan stated once everyone was seated.
"Um thanks I don't know what you want me to say" Virgil said confused.
"I was wondering which are true and which are lies" Logan said. Right as Virgil was going to answer a voice came up on the loudspeaker.
"Time for Lunch please enjoy the buffet and we welcome you back to Sander's" The voice said and once the voice had finished speaking all the students started to wander over to the long buffet table.
"Hey Virgil coming with us" Patton asked when he saw Virgil make no move to follow them.
Virgil laughed awkwardly "No offense Patton but no way in hell can I afford whatever shit their serving here."
The others looked at each other in confusion and Remus said "You don't have to pay for lunch."
"Seriously it's free" Virgil asked incredulously. Patton nodded and Virgil quickly got up walking towards the buffet table the other kids not far behind. Once Virgil filled up his plate he started to walk back to the table only to be stopped by a teacher.
"Where do you think you're going with that plate" The teacher asked.
"Back to one of the tables I was told this food is free" Virgil said sneaking glances at the others seeing that they were completely distracted.
"That food it only for students not the help" The teacher said while reaching for the food.
"For the finally time I am a student" Virgil exclaimed starting to pull it back before suddenly letting go so the whole plate of food flew into the teachers face.
"How dare you you stupid freak" The teacher shrieked trying to clean his face. Virgil saw red when he heard the word freak and almost punched the teacher if it wasn't for Joan.
"What is going on here" Joan asked Virgil after he let go of his fist.
"He called me the help then tried to grab the plate I thought if he wanted it so bad then I should give it to him and in thanks he called me a freak" Virgil said innocently. Joan turned to the teacher and started to give him a tongue lashing when the teacher stood up and slapped Joan.
"How dare you defend this trailer trash over me he tried to attack me" The teacher yelled.
But before he could continue Joan said in a calm voice "He is my brother I would believe him always." Patton and the other looked at Virgil in shock and it seemed as if the whole cafeteria was silent for a moment until the principal burst through the doors.
"What is going on" Thomas asked annoyed then he saw Joan and walked up and kissed him briefly before once again saying "What is going on."
it seemed that the teacher had missed the kiss or he was just stupid because he said smugly "Those freaks attacked me."
"What did you just call them" Thomas demanded knowing about Virgil's sensitivity with that word.
"I only called them what they are sir" The teacher replied still not grasping how much trouble he was in.
"You're fired" Thomas said and started to walk away with Joan on his arm.
"Excuse me you can't fire me without probable cause" the ex-teacher said.
"How about harassing and insulting a fellow colleague and a student" Thomas said shortly the ex-teacher's mouth opened and closed then he huffed and stalked out of the room. "Are you alright Joan" Thoma asked Joan when the ex-teacher was gone.
"I'm fine how about you Vee" Joan asked Virgil noticing he had been quiet.
"Better thank you Joan and thank you sir" Virgil said with a soft smile he then turned to go grab some more food having to push through the shocked kids. He grabbed another plate and walked to the table where Patton and the others were waiting with a million questions. Joan and Thomas having left after Virgil left well after the others were snapped out of their shock. "Alright you all get one question no more" Virgil said much to the horror of Logan.
"I will go first is Joan truly your brother" Patton asked.
"Yep in all but blood which doesn't matter all that much" Virgil said taking a bite out of his apple.
"What is your favorite form of art" Roman asked.
"Spray-painting" Virgil replied starting on his noodles.
"Isn't that illegal" Remus asked squinting his eyes at Virgil.
"Not if you don't get caught and that counts as your question" Virgil said still eating his noodles.
'Dammit" Remus cursed.
"Where do you live" Janus asked thinking he had seen him around the shiftier people in the city.
"Down in Eastwood" Virgil answered and the others gasped Eastwood was the worst part of town full to the brim with all kinds of criminals.
"What is your I.Q" Logan asked wanting to know but also wanting to change the subject.
"I don't know never got tested" Virgil said then shrugged. Once again the others were in shock not sure how to process what they just heard.
"You never got tested then how did you get in" Logan questioned.
"I don't know they gave everyone a test they said I got 100% and a scholarship and here I am" Virgil said then got up to throw away his plate. After doing that he tapped on Patton's shoulder snapping Patton out of his daze "Hey can you show me to my next class this place is huge." Patton nodded and walked out with Virgil leaving his plate behind.
