One thing that the spy life never prepared you for was fatherhood. Casey remembered the last call that he'd had with his fiancée before his fake death and the loss of communication between the two of them, but he'd never expected that she was going to tell him that she was pregnant that day, hadn't anticipated the fact that he was becoming a dad.

In a lot of ways, he figures that things would have turned out differently if he'd known or maybe they'd have followed the same pattern, but he'd have met Alex sooner, been able to look out for her from afar much easier. Being a soldier and then a spy definitely did prepare him for being an incredible protector on the other hand.

No bad guys, he'd ever let hurt his daughter. And the bonus on top of that, is that any guy who dates his daughter would develop a healthy fear of John Casey, and ultimately that does mean that his future son-in-law has a healthy fear of him and a surprising friendship with him too, that he wouldn't have known what to make of if it had been anyone other than Morgan Grimes.

But, at least Morgan knows how easily he can be destroyed, if he were to ever hurt Alex. He's lucky the first few times that he'd done so, that Casey hadn't already killed him. He's lucky to be allowed to be with her, honestly, but it shows an incredible amount of bravery on the side of Morgan too. Casey would have just believed that his former roommate was an idiot, and that's how come he hadn't realized how slippery of a position he was in, but Casey, by this point, knew Morgan a lot better than that.

Casey knew that Morgan, while an idiot, wasn't that big of one, and besides Morgan knew that his life was on the line, if he hurt Alex, knew what all of that meant, and the smaller man chose to date her anyway. And Alex liked him a lot or rather loved him a lot, and Casey was not oblivious to that fact.

He may have missed most of his daughter's life, because of a choice he made back when he was just a soldier. But, he wasn't about to miss the rest of her life too. He could tell that Alex really did love Morgan, that despite all of the stupidity that Morgan sometimes caused, and every subsequent heartbreak, she really did want to be by his side.

That took the love and the courage that Casey knew ran in Alex's blood, a gift from her father that she'd probably not realized, and even though Morgan was not the first person John Casey would have picked for a son-in-law, at least he'd be good to Alex. It seemed that even the bearded one could learn from his own mistakes.

Just nothing prepared John Casey for this day either; nothing had prepared a hardened fighter for the moment that he'd see his daughter in a wedding dress, nervous but excited too.

"Dad, do I look okay?" When Alex turns to him, she's all questioning bride, worried as soon as the day arrived that maybe she'd been running on fumes and not love.

"You look great." Casey came to stand before her, and while being a spy and a soldier had not prepared him for this day, being a father had made it a bit more possible, "Morgan's probably nervous too."

"Is he?" Alex looks out past the hallway, probably remembering when Morgan proposed to her, which Casey heard went about as well as he expected. It was grand and over the top with balloons, a mariachi band, and a horse drawn carriage, but what stood out is that Morgan's hands shook so badly, holding the ring that he dropped it. And when the band came in, both Alex and Morgan had dropped to the floor in search of the pretty ring, before even Alex had told him, "Yes."

Sometimes Casey wondered how such an awkward and over the top proposal had been met with a "Yes," from his daughter, but he knows that Alex loves Morgan far too much to leave the man wallowing in nerves, hadn't hesitated despite the noise and the chaos around them to tell him, "Yes," to reaffirm that answer with a kiss, if what Chuck had accidentally told him was to be believed.

Of course when Chuck had told him that, he'd been surprisingly teary eyed, as if it was only then that his best friend had seemed to have grown up; sometimes Chuck is somewhat of a parent to Morgan, himself.

"I can guarantee it." Casey shrugged, "And the moment he sees you, he'll forget how nervous he is."

"He will?" Alex looked up at her dad, needing that extra bit of reassurance.

"He loves you." Is all Casey really said, offering an arm to his daughter, a chance for her to walk by his side and eventually meet her rather unprincely prince charming; Casey would support his daughter no matter what.

"I love him too." Alex straightened up, slipping her hand against her father's elbow, nerves momentarily forgotten; she's brave just as the man walking beside her, guiding her towards her future, is brave.

She probably can't see it, since she isn't a spy or a soldier, but she's strong just like her dad, and despite the little bit of fear surrounding her new beginning, she's not willing to lay crumpled in a heap on the ground. She's ready to go forward and marry the man that had many times tried her love by his own stupidity, but had not been able to break that love, regardless.

Morgan was good to her, despite his few mistakes back when he and Alex had just started dating the first few times. But both Morgan and Alex had grown, learned how to move past old scars and old mistakes, and still love each other so completely. And though Casey hadn't really dreamed of Morgan becoming his son-in-law, he was proud of Alex, just the same.

And he knew that Morgan would care for her, had known so even before the two were engaged, had realized it when he'd left to find Verbanski, because Morgan hadn't stopped loving Alex over all this time, and quirks and all, they kind of fit together in a way that Casey had never anticipated when he'd first seen Alex and Morgan near each other.

"I'm proud of you, Alex." Casey whispered to her, despite the room full of wedding guests and the bridesmaids near them.

"Thank you, Dad." And there were tears in her eyes, though Alex could have been thanking him just for those words, it felt as if she were thanking him for so much more: for protecting her that day, that she first found out he was her dad, to everyday after, fighting for her and protecting her then.

To letting her find her own happiness and finally today when he feels blessed enough to walk her down the aisle and towards a man that he'd never anticipated becoming a part of the family but is not disappointed to one day call son.
