Sofia2017 planning asked about this Shirley Temple song, so enjoy your request! I thought it would be nice if, as a way to help Amber go to sleep again after a nightmare, James tries to sing something to make her feel better. He even gets help from Roland and Melinda when they sing a special song to her. Shirley Temple's music is not mine.

Roland and Melinda were walking down the hall when they saw the soundproof charm on the nursery door fading. That could only mean one thing: James was awake and was wanting to sing.

"Don't look at me like that, Roland, I'm not singing anything this time," Melinda smirked, seeing him glance at her.

"Maybe not, but even if you're thinking about singing, James will want to join you!" Roland joked.

"Well, he does know what he likes," Melinda chuckled.

"He does, doesn't he?" Roland smiled.

However, when they entered the nursery, they saw Amber sitting up and crying, and James was trying to comfort her.

"Amber, I help you!" James said as he tried to hug her. "You and Dutch-ess Kitty be okay!" He patted her hand as he sang softly, "La-la-la..."

"Can we help you too, James?" Melinda asked.

"Okay," James said as he reached for her.

"Amber, sweetheart, what's wrong?" Roland asked, taking her and her best friend Duchess Kitty in his arms and settling down with them in a rocking chair.

"Monsters!" Amber cried. "They chase me and Dutch-ess Kitty!"

"It's all right, you're both safe, and you look like you're all right now," Roland smiled. He turned to Amber's pink plush cat. "How about you, Duchess Kitty? Are you all right?"

Amber smiled a little as Roland made Duchess Kitty nod, nuzzling her against her. "James and Prince Bliz-zard help us. They sing la-la-la song," she admitted.

"Music makes it all better!" James smiled.

"It certainly does," Melinda smiled, taking him and his best friend Prince Blizzard in her arms and settling down with them in another rocking chair. "Now, shall we sing something to help you both go back to sleep and make Amber feel better?"

"I think we both know the answer to that," Roland smiled.

"La-la-la…" James sang softly, cuddling up with his plush white tiger.

"That's right, James, now, why don't we put some more words into that little song of yours?" Melinda suggested.

"More words?" James asked.

"That's right," Melinda smiled. "I remember a song my mommy used to sing to me at bedtime when I was little, and I think you'll both love it."

James and Amber smiled, and as she and Roland rocked them, Melinda sang softly, Goodnight my love, your mommy is kneeling beside you
Goodnight my love, to dreamland the sandman will guide you
Come now you sleepyhead, close your eyes, and go to bed
My precious sleepyhead, you mustn't play peek-a-boo

Even Roland smiled when he heard that. He had a vague memory of his own mother singing this to him and Tilly when they were younger. He softly joined in, Goodnight my love, your little Dutch dolly is yawning
Goodnight my love, your teddy bear called it a day

"That's right, Roland, if you know the song, feel free to join in," Melinda smiled as she joined in, Your doggy's fast asleep, my, but he's smart
Sleep tight, my love, goodnight my love
God bless you, pleasant dreams, sweetheart

"La-la-la…" James joined in as he gave Prince Blizzard a hug.

"Well, I did just say join in!" Melinda chuckled, kissing him on the cheek.

"But I'm not sure if he really knows this song," Roland smiled.

"Oh, Roland, to James, every song is 'la-la-la!'" Melinda grinned. "But before we get him and Amber too excited, let's get them back to sleep!"

"You're right," Roland agreed. He started rocking Amber as he sang softly, Goodnight my love, the tired old moon is descending
Goodnight my love, my moment with you now is ending

"La-la-la…" James sang as he closed his eyes and leaned against Melinda.

"That's right, James, it's time to sleep now," Melinda smiled as she rocked him, and as she felt him relax, she continued, It was so heavenly, holding you, close to me
It will be heavenly to hold you again in a dream

Roland nodded as he took Amber back to her crib, tucked her in with Duchess Kitty, and sang softly, The stars above have promised to meet us tomorrow
Till then my love, how dreary the new day will seem

Melinda tucked James in his crib with Prince Blizzard as she finished the song, So for the present, dear, we'll have to part
Sleep tight, my love, goodnight, my love
Remember that you're mine sweetheart

"Night-night…" Amber murmured as she fell asleep again.

"Goodnight, sweetheart," Roland smiled.

"Night-night…" James murmured, singing softly, "La-la-la…"

"Goodnight, and la-la-la to you too, sweetheart. We'll sing some more after your nap," Melinda smiled as he fell asleep.
