Chuya had a condition that no doctors could name. His memory went back only as far as a year ago. The first thing he remembers is pain. And then a hospital bed. It was strange. He could remember how society worked, but not his place in it. He could remember what was happening in the world, and everything about it, but not his place in it. His hospital fees were equivalent to that of a night in a hotel, because that was exactly what it was. Someone had brought him to the hospital, with no physical problems whatsoever, but with no memories. That person had told the doctors his name was Chuya. And so that was what he was called afterward.

He promised himself he would not wonder about the past, because whatever it was, it was irrelevant to him now. But mainly a silent voice in his head told him he didn't want to remember. He didn't know where that voice came from. But he trusted it, because it was the only thing that he knew came from before that first memory of waking up.

The next week was spent looking for a job. He went to a bank, and was told that he already had an account. It was made a day before he woke up in the hospital, and had enough money to support himself, a wife, two children, and maybe another child for a lifetime. He sealed all the money in that account, but didn't give it away. He vouched that he would never touch any of the money, but he wasn't kind enough to give it away. He didn't know why he did that. But an inner feeling told him it was to spite whoever it was that supplied the money. He didn't know why he wanted to spite that person, either.

As someone without a background, without money, and without connections, the first job he found was being a taxi driver. He somehow remembered how to drive, and so he managed to pass a test of some taxi company.

In his second week as taxi driver, he pulled a lady who changed his life. She was called Kouyou Ozaki, and she was the owner of an insurance company. She struck up a conversation with him, and offered him a job. He accepted.

She was the first person he really got to know after his "rebirth" as he liked to think of it. She was as close to family as anything he had. He wasn't really the best at his job, but Kouyou didn't mind, and paid him well. She spent that first Christmas with him. They had a small party, not much more than a cake and some of her cooking, but it was the best he ever had. He couldn't remember whether he had celebrated Christmas before, but he did know that someone was missing. Kouyou, as the boss of the company, was often busy, and would sometimes even go for weeks without showing. Once, she came back with a big scar of her arm, but Chuya decided not to pry into her personal life, just as she didn't pry into his.

Dazai stood outside Chuya's sickroom, glasses and hat covering his eyes. He waited until Chuya woke up, then left.

He bribbed the taxi company to let Chuya pass, because he knew his partner's driving was very... fast.

He made sure that no one in the Port Mafia would find Chuya, and no one in Chuya's past life would disturb him. He already made Chuya's life hell once. Now that Chuya was given a second chance, he made sure that it wouldn't happen again. So he didn't understand how Kouyou found him. But since Kouyou had put herself in Chuya's life, Dazai made sure to utilise her. Of course, he made sure that he never told her directly, but he made sure to hint at things when he talked to her. And of course, she understood, and didn't question him.

Dazai promised himself he would never go to see Chuya again, and would never help the annoying redhead. But, nevertheless, he found himself following his newfound love on a clear Friday afternoon. He already knew the location of Chuya's apartment, but had never been there yet.

The next Tuesday Chuya thought someone must have broken into his house, because half of his cake was gone. For some reason he wasn't worried, and actually secretly prepared different foods everyday. Sometimes his works of art would be appreciated, other times it would have to do for the next morning's breakfast.

Dazai's apartment just happened to be across the street from Kouyou's insurance company. And so he made sure to leave the ADA at the right time everyday, so that he could watch a terribly-dressed redhead exit the building, his eyes following said redhead through the crowds, easily distinguishing him from the other people through a ridiculous hat. He supposed some things never changed.

Kouyou had entrusted Chuya with an important buisness opportunity. As a relatively small insurance company, they would have to find a larger insurance company to cooperate with, so as to increase their chances and profit. And so Chuya was to be the representative for their company in negotiations with the other side. He was definitely not the best speaker in their company, so Chuya was very grateful to Kouyou-san for entrusting him with the job.

The other side named an expensive restaurant where they could talk things over diner. Chuya googled the place and found it to be a French restaurant popular with couples. When he got there and the other person hadn't arrived yet, he decided to order first, and explain things when the other got there. After a while he needed to go to the bathroom, and for some reason he knew where it was without having to ask the staff.

When the other came, Chuya took one look at the person's face, and decided that they were annoying. And handsome.

"So, you must be Chuya"

"And you must be Dazai"

"I didn't expect you to be so short"

"Ei? I didn't expect you to be such a waste of bandages!"

All in all, I must say that the negotiations went quite well, and both sides had took an active role in the discussions.

Plus, they ended up trading numbers and meeting again afterwards in their own time.

Thank you! That will be the end of this story, I really hope you liked it!

(Don't ask me how Chuya revived. Don't ask me why he lost his memory. Just don't)

(Also, not totally pointing fingers to Yosano)
