As Ruby and the others did battle with her, they were each trying something to try and get through to her.
"Hey sis, don't you remember that time mom took us to the beach and we got to see the sea turtle up close?" asked Yang as she barely dodged one of Ruby's swings by blasting her gauntlets to fly out of the path.
"She was not your mother!" said Ruby while getting ready to use her Semblance to get in front of her, but found that her feet were frozen to the ground thanks to a Glyph.
"If you hate people so much then did you stop me from falling just a minute ago?" asked Weiss.
"Why try and protect the Faunus students and even try to get along with me?" she asked, the ice crawling up Ruby's legs by the second.
"It was for my cover story!" said Ruby as the ice shattered. Her Semblance had caused enough stress on the ice to cause it to crack, and her target was Weiss.
"We have to get in there and help them," said Winter, but Ozpin stopped her by throwing his arm out in front of her.
"Just wait, they aren't in that much danger yet," he said.
"Was what you said about the way Fanus are treated a lie too?" asked Blake who had used her own Semblance to jump in Ruby's path by having a clone throw her. In the process her ribbon had come off and revealed her ears.
"I… I don't know," said Ruby as her face started to twitch and the force on her scythe lightened a little. Yang then punched Ruby in the side of the head, sending her flying.
"Speaking of Fanus, what was it that Summer said to you after you protected that girl with the squirrel tail from those bullies when you were five?" asked Yang while standing a few feet from Ruby.
"I… I," said Ruby as she fought to stand but at the same time was holding a hand to her head.
"She said you were brave for doing something most others wouldn't have, but now I have no question that she would be disappointed in you!" said Yang.
"No, I never meant to… mom please don't...," said Ruby as her left eye turned back to normal while a silver light came out.
"Argh!" screamed Ruby as the light grew even more until it had fully enveloped her. The scream was so loud that Emerald and the others heard it from inside.
"We have to go back," said Emerald.
"No, we're too close to the Maiden to retreat now," said Cinder.
"What would Salem be more mad at, leaving the Maiden or losing Ruby?" asked Emerald who had gotten in front of Cinder to stop her.
"Fine, but if you're wrong then you will pay greatly for this," said Cinder before they all turned around and rushed back.
