Hello My Fellow Readers! I am so sorry for not being active this past week. I know I had told you all I'd would update the story last weekend. But I am back and with the chapter we have all been waiting for. Last we left our favorite paramedic, he was about to come face-to-face with the big, bad James. Lets find out what happens...

Chapter 6

I hung up my call with call with Leah and made a beeline straight towards the elevators, with Emmett and Jasper hot on my tail. Once we were inside, I pushed a few buttons and with both doors closing, we started to descend to the main floor. I have to admit, I had no idea how exactly I was going to handle James; I just knew I needed to keep Isabella and Isaac safe. As I was trying to mentally prepare myself for what was to come, I could see through the corners of my eye Emmett and Jasper standing behind; Stretching their arms and cracking their joints, as if they were gearing up for a fight.

Before I knew it, I felt the elevator come to a stop and the doors begin to slide open and we all three made our exit. We had barely stepped onto the ground floor before we could hear hollering and shouting coming from the lobby area. As we turned the corner to make our way to the front desk, I could see what was the cause of the disturbance.

Standing by the check in desk, was a tall, dirty-blonde man. He had to have been in his mid to late 30's, with a blonde stubble beard and piercing blue eyes, which were now filled with rage and burning with a hot temper. The man was relatively built, so I knew he could cause some damage if he wanted. In fact, I knew he has caused damaged, based on the reports Leah showed me of Isabella's physical. Currently, though, his anger was directed towards Jessica, one of our receptionist, as towered over her. Causing her to tremble with fear.

"What do you mean 'They're not here'?!" The blonde man yelled. "I was told to come here and get them. So don't lie to me little girl."

I knew this had to be James.

"I'm sorry, sir," Jessica said with her voice full of fear. "But there is no record of an Isabella or an Isaac Hunter being admitted to this hospital. Are you sure you got the name of the hospital right?"

"Are you calling me stupid?!" James yelled again. "Listen you little bitch..."

James started to reach over the desk for Jessica and I quickly flung into actions.

"Hey!" I called out and both James and Jessica turned to my direction. James retracted his hand back to his side, his eyes bore into mine; I was now his new target.

"What do you want?" James asked.

"I want you to leave that poor girl alone and also lower your tone." I answered.

I could tell James was trying to control his anger. Doing his best to make sure no one could see the beast within. But, he wasn't fooling me.

I knew what he truly was, I could see it. And I'd be damned if Isabella or Isaac ever came near that animal.

"Look," James finally spoke after taking a few deep breaths. "All I'm trying to do is find my wife and son. I was told they were in Chicago, so I drove straight over. But, now this bit-girl is telling me they're not here. So I'm trying to figure out what the hell is going on."

I took a deep breath as well before answering.

"I understand your frustration sir, but that's no reason to take it out on poor Jessica here," I said, gesturing where she was sitting. "She didn't do anything. As she's said, though, your wife and child are not here. I'm sorry for your troubles."

"Well, then where the hell are they?" James demanded.

"I don't know what to tell you," I responded.

We then both just stood in the middle of the lobby, not saying a word. He was waiting for me to crack and give him more information, as I was just waiting for him to give up and leave. It was almost like we were in the middle of a Mexican stand-off; both just waiting for the other one to blink and pull out their pistol.

James proceeded to take a few steps towards me, causing Emmett and Jasper to take a few steps themselves in my direction, ready to defend me. James halted his movements then and went back to staring daggers at me. This went on for a little while longer before James finally spoke up.

"What did she say?" He finally asked.

"I'm sorry?" I asked back, trying to play dumb.

"Don't play me for a fool, man. I can tell when someone has fallen under the spell of Isabella Swan. She draws you in with those big brown eyes and long lashes. She flashes you that big, sweet smile of hers and suddenly you're ready to take a bullet for her honor," He said. "This is what she does; She manipulates you to do her bidding. She seems so sweet and innocent, but she's black hole. She sucks you in and turns your life into a living hell. Save yourself the trouble and just start running."

How can you claim to love a woman and then talk about her like that?

"I don't know what you're talking about," I told him, stepping a little bit closer. "But it seems to me like you're the black hole and maybe your wife should be the one running."

The man looked utterly shocked by my remark. Probably the first time he's ever had someone talk back to him in a while.

"Why, you fucking..." James began to say while he threw his arm back wanting his fist could try and connect with my face. Before he could even make contact though, Emmett quickly grabbed for James' arm and twisted it behind his back. James still wasn't giving up; He then tried to lunge at me, but Jasper came up from behind and grabbed James. The two were able to restrain the man and after a few attempts to get free, he finally stopped resisting.

I looked James straight into the eyes. Showing him that I was not afraid of him. He could scream, threaten me and succeed in trying to hurt me, but I was not going to submit to his fury.

"Sir, you need to calm down. You are causing a disturbance and upsetting the patients," I spoke calmly and rationally.

"I'm not going anywhere until I see my wife and child," He said, making another attempt to get free.

"Like I told before, sir. Like Jessica has told you as well; You wife and son are not here. Now, I think you need to leave."

"Go to hell, pretty boy," He sneered.

I still kept my composure,

"If you don't leave now, then I'll be forced to call over security to escort you out of here," I warned. "And I assure you...they won't be as friendly as I am."

James just stood there, Emmett and Jasper's firm grip on. Probably contemplating his next move; whether he should take his chances with me or with the guards. To be honest, James may be big but he's not as big as Jacob, our biggest security guard. He was Native American with pitch black hair and muscles for days, and I mean that in a non-creepy way. Between him and Emmett, I don't even think Dwayne Johnson would stand a chance.

James continued to contemplate his actions for a few more minutes before I saw the look of defeat wash over his face and I knew he had given up.

"Fine," He said gruffly, jerking himself from Emmett and Jasper's grasp. "I'll leave." He then turned around and walked to the sliding doors.

But, of course, the son of a bitch couldn't just make a simple exit. He had to turn around and make one last declaration.

"But just tell Isabella that she can't hide from me," He threatened. "Tell her, I will find her. She will regret leaving me and taking my son."

Although I didn't want to admit it, I did feel a tinge of fear. Not for me of course, but for Isabella and Isaac. I didn't show it, obviously. I just kept the stone-cold expression on my face as James finally made his leave.

"You know this isn't the end," Jasper said from behind me.

"I know,"

"He's going to keep coming back," He replied again.

I knew that too.

"I'll talk to Leah and see if it's possible to up security on Isabella's floor until she's recovered," I then walked to the elevators once more. To check in on Isaac and Isabella.

"You're going to an awful lot of trouble for this girl. Are you sure she's worth it?" Jasper asked.

I stopped and turned around to face Jasper.

"It's not about if she's worth it, Jasper," I told him. "It's about doing what's right."

And, yes. She is. I said to myself.

I started back towards the elevators again and returned to Isabella's room. When I walked in, it was almost completely dark. The T.V had been shut off, but I could make out the faint sound of a lullaby being played. I walked deeper into the room and could see the faint lights from the monitors that were still active. The dim light allowed me to gain enough sight to see two figures lying in the bed. Isaac layed blissful at rest, cuddling what looked to be a stuffed animal, which was where the source of the music was coming from, as it played "You Are My Sunshine". Next to Isaac was his dear, sweet mother also peacefully asleep; With her arms wrapped around him and her nose nuzzled into his hair.

They were sleeping so soundly, that I didn't want to disturb them. But, I did feel the need to put myself at ease and make sure they were alright. So I gently let my hand fall to Isabella's head; Brushing my thumb across her soft, ivory skin. Pulling some of her hair behind her ear. The movements must have not been as gently as I originally thought, because I could hear Isabella start to stir.

"Hmm?" She asked, not fully awake.

"Shh…," I told her. "It's okay."

I heard the lullaby stop playing and looked over in Isaac's direction. "Where'd he get the toy?" I asked.

"Dr. Uley is letting him borrow it from the pediatric floor." She sighed.

"Ah," I said. I let the silence just sit there for a while.

"What wrong?" She asked me in a hush tone.

"Nothing," I reassured her. "I just wanted to let you know, you're safe. You and your son have nothing to fear."

"Thank you," Isabella replied, lying her head back to rest.

"You're welcome, Isabella." I said.

"Bella." She said, oh so softly.

"What?"

"My friends call me, Bella." She told me, as she drifted back to sleep.

Bella…

Bella…

Beautiful…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Rescue Me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few days had passed since Bella had been brought into the hospital. Leah wanted to keep her under her care for a little while longer than required, just to ensure her safety. But, we hadn't heard much of anything from James since he walked out that first night. Sam called me the next morning after he left and said James did contact him to see about Isaac and Bella's whereabouts. Thankfully Sam was able to keep stonewalling him and prevent him from getting any more information, despite James' best efforts.
After leaving Bella's room that night and getting my ass chewed by Aro for missing a whole day's work, I was able to secure a few hours of sleep on one of the rigs before heading back to my job. I was still running double shifts, so I was basically working around the clock; Nonstop. But, any free time I was able to find, I used it to check in on Bella. I would sit with her and we would just chat or we would take Isaac on short little walks around the wing. With each visit, I found myself becoming more and more attached to her and to Isaac.
A full week had almost passed and Isabella was being released from the hospital today. Wanting to see her before she left, I made my way up to Bella's room on my break. Giving a quick nod to Jacob as he was passing by the door, just as he has been the last couple of days. I was able to convince Leah up security for Bella's safety. Jacob volunteered himself to circle around her room a few times a day during his rounds. He wasn't exactly a bodyguard or anything, but it was comforting to know that someone was watching out for Bella when I couldn't.
As I entered the room I saw Bella starting to pack a few things away. She was in a pair of navy blue NorthWestern sweatpants and a matching sweatshirt with the Hospital's logo. Her dark, brown hair was piled on top of her head in a messy bun. A few loose strands of hair that didn't make it into the bun were now resting against the side of Bella's head; Framing her face in the most angelic way. She may only have been in sweats and had no makeup or even showered yet today, but Isabella Hunter was still a sight to behold.
"Hey," she acknowledged me as I entered the room.
"Hey," I replied back, then looking over to Isaac playing on the bed. Leah was able to swipe a few more toys from the pediatric wing to keep the boy entertained while his mother recuperated.
"Hey little man" I said to Isaac. He then looked up at me and flashed me another one of his amazing grins.
"Ed! Ed! Ed!" He cheered as he tried to jump to me from the bed. Luckily I was able to catch him.
"I don't get it," Bella said after a couple of minutes.
"What?" I asked her.
"Isaac calls you 'Ed' because Leah does. But yet, you said that you prefer Edward. So why does Leah still continue to call by that?"
"Because, I know it annoys the ever-loving-life out of him," Leah answered, making her grand entrance into the room. "I just do it to get under his skin."
"And you do it very, very well," I told her.
"So Bella," Leah began. "I just need to do a few more things here, but then you should be ready to leave in just a few hours, girl."
"Thank you Leah," She said.
Over the past few days, Leah and Bella started to form a pretty strong bond with one another. So much so, that they were on a first name basis with each other. Leah was even able to secure a few outfits for her and Isaac, since most of their belongings were destroyed or lost in the accident.
"So what are your plans once you leave, Bella?" I asked her. And with that, the energy in the room turned cold. I saw the spark in Bella's eyes go out and the look of worry soon replaced them.
"I don't know," she said, honestly. "The cell I used to communicate with the woman here in Chicago is long gone and I have no way to reach her. My car is totaled and I have no place to stay. Leah has called down to a few women shelters for me and Isaac to stay at for a bit".
"I can also possibly secure you guys a few nights at a hotel. Until you figure out what your next step is," Leah offered.
"Thank you, Leah," Bella said. However, despite Leah's generosity, I could still see the look of sadness and fear on her face.
I heard the words before they even registered in my head.
"You can stay with me," I said.
"What?" Bella asked, confused.
"WHAT?!" Leah yelled, shocked.
"What?" I asked, unfazed.
Didn't see that coming, (Well I did, of course LOL). I hope you all are loving the story so far and don't forget to send me some feedback and love if you do.
P.S- I just wanted you all to know that I'm back at school this week. Meaning, I will not be as active as I want to be with my updates. I hope to post a new chapter every other week, but again, it all depends on how my school work and everything goes.
Thank you for being so understanding. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and you all have an awesome weekend!
Until next time...
