make you mine(part 2)
::
It's hard to feel you slipping, through my fingers are so numb
Annabeth's heart had been broken a few times.
One, when she had to leave Thalia. It was entirely heartbreaking to lose someone so incredibly important for her. A few months after leaving was only when Annabeth's crying slowed down. Before that, she would yell at her parents for making her move, and a rage overcame her. She would cry to sleep holding her stuffed owl, Bubo.
Second, when Athena left. While there were moments in which she was mad at her mother, just like any normal child, she loved her, more than anything. She remembers all the stories her mom would tell her, and how she would fall asleep to them, but only after giving her mother a kiss on the cheek. When she left, her heart cracked again. Her dad comforted her, and they knew at that moment, they needed to rely on each other to get back up again. While Frederick rose on his own, Annabeth was left stranded. He got happily married, had two twins, and ignored Annabeth, as she reminded him of Athena.
She was praying to be happy again, once she met her new family, but that day she walked into school, and Percy had his arm around a girl, it was all ruined.
Her knees went weak. She had a bad feeling about today this morning. But she didn't want to make any assumptions, so she walked forward normally, tall and confident.
Percy had a smile on his face that made her melt until she realized it wasn't for her.
Right.
All of her friends were crowding around Percy and the girl. Piper had true loyalty to Annabeth, so she frowned rather than smiling. That changed as soon as the girl spoke one sentence.
She honestly couldn't handle this right now, she skirted to her locker, which was luckily decently far away, grabbed a few notebooks, closed the locker, and headed to class.
Annabeth's heart sank.
No one had noticed her.
Her first period thankfully had assigned seats, so she didn't have to get asked questions from Hazel or Jason, who were in the same first period. They also weren't as nosy as others (Piper).
Her next 4 periods were slightly more tricky. She didn't have any of them with Percy, but Piper was there, and Annabeth knew how observant Piper was. Annabeth could see Piper trying to grab her attention, and Annabeth didn't want to bother Piper, but she just didn't want to talk.
She finally had to face lunch. She knew her friends were suspicious, so she decided to play it off as normal.
She headed towards the table, and the girl was animatedly talking to everyone, and Annabeth now noticed how beautiful the girl was. Curly red hair, like a waterfall, and sparkling emerald eyes.
Annabeth looked at the table in relief. There was no space. She had an excuse to leave. But Miss. McLean had to step in and call her out.
She scooted more space between her and Percy, and Annabeth felt sick.
"Annie! Come on!"
She gestured towards them, and Annabeth felt like she was about to throw up as everyone looked up at her.
She took her time getting to the table, and sat down on the seat, sitting a little closer to Piper.
Everyone looked up at her questioningly.
"What?"
"Why didn't we see you today?"
"I was late and in a hurry, okay?"
"You're never late Beth."
Beth. Reminded her of Thalia.
"The twins made a mess, and Dad made me clean up."
Everyone seemed to accept the answer, and went back to eating their food.
She tried to continue eating like nothing was happening when she felt Rachel's eyes on her.
"Oh!...Annabeth Chase, right? Your friends talk about you a lot."
Annabeth could feel her charm radiating off the girl. She decided with nodding her head.
"Well, I'm Rachel."
Annabeth gritted her teeth, trying to keep her cool. "Cool."
And she went back to eating, but was secretly peeking at Rachel in the corner of her eyes.
"...and I'm Percy's girlfriend."
"Cool."
Rachel shrugged her shoulders, as if confused, and turned towards Percy for an explanation. Percy had the same reaction.
She finished quickly, though there wasn't really much to eat. Just a sandwich.
She muttered "bye" under her breath, before leaving the table.
In her 5th period, Percy and Rachel were both in her class, and Rachel sat next to her left, with Percy on the left side of Rachel.
"So Annabeth, what's your favorite subject?"
"Don't really have one."
"Yeah they all suck. Though art is one exception. I love art."
Annabeth could feel her hands clenching into a fist, and at that moment the teacher came in.
"Good afternoon. We are doing a project this week. I would like to get started as soon as possible."
Cue the groans.
"But, you can have partners."
Cue the cheers.
"I'll give you a handout. It will have all the instructions."
She passed the handouts to everyone, as soon as Annabeth was passed one, in habit, she turned to Percy, before realizing Rachel and Percy would be partners.
Annabeth quickly turned away, hoping they wouldn't notice. They didn't, and Annabeth sighed in relief.
She thought back to the professor's words : "But, you can have partners."
Meaning she didn't have to have a partner. She moved to the corner of the classroom, where there were beanbags. She sat down and brought out her handout.
It was pretty easy, so she got her poster paper, and got to work. Annabeth was kind of neat-freak. She was the kind of person who got it right the first time, rather than going back and erasing it to become perfect. She got out a ruler to make sure her words weren't slanted.
She went to get a pair of scissors, since she left hers at home, only to see Percy and Rachel laughing together.
She quickly hurried to Mrs. Welson. "May I go to the restroom?"
"Of course, Annabeth."
She headed out to the bathroom, and splashed water onto her face, looking at herself. Not all the droplets were water.
It wasn't like she didn't know this would happen. It was impending to occur. Yet she wasn't prepared. It hurt so bad. Like the floor was collapsing, and everything that was constant suddenly was torn away from her. Everything was randomly on the brink of collapse, and she didn't know what to do. She was falling so deep, all the way down, and this time, she wasn't sure she could ever come back.
She cleaned herself up, and faced her last few periods.
After school, when they were getting in the buses, Piper, coincidentally, declared that they were having a sleepover. And Annabeth knew what goes on at those sleepovers. Secrets are told, and right now, she wanted to keep more secrets than ever.
She tried for some excuse, but they pushed it away, and Annabeth had to come in the end.
It was now 7, and she was heading to Piper's house. Her dad just nodded his head at her, even though he wasn't busy, which didn't surprise Annabeth.
She grabbed a backpack with clothes and a toothbrush, along with some self-care products, and headed out. Luckily, Piper's house was only in the next neighborhood, so Annabeth could just walk there.
She always brought an attachable pepper spray to her backpack, just in case. Annabeth was always taught to protect herself since she was young, and when she hears stories about how women are treated, she makes sure to always take precautions.
In around 10 minutes, she reached Piper's house, and rang the doorbell. A high chime rang out, and she heard some rumbling.
"It's Annabeth! I got it!"
Piper opened the door, grabbed Annabeth's arm, and dragged her in, shutting the door. Annabeth pulled her hand out of her grasp, but followed her. Piper led her to Piper's bedroom, and swung the door behind them closed.
"What's up with you today?"
Annabeth feigned confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I mean you're acting strange and all. It started this morning. Did Percy do anything? If he did, I'll kill-ohhhhhhhh! Rachel. Percy. Girlfriend. You. Crush. Right."
"SHUSH!"
Piper had the intrepidity to look not whatsoever guilty.
"That's why!"
Piper paused for a moment, and Annabeth could see the realization pouring into her.
"Oh, sweetie. How about this? We'll stay at home, and I'll ask everyone to leave. We can talk, cry, and have ice cream. We can do whatever you want."
Piper was petting her hair, and Annabeth swatted her away.
"I'm fine, Piper. Let's go."
And without asking, Annabeth left the room. She headed towards the basement, where usually the sleepovers took place.
She could hear some screeching(most likely Leo), and laughing going around. Then a big thump. Leo also most likely fell down.
She walked in, and it felt like normal, when she spotted Rachel sitting next to Percy.
She eavesdropped on the conversation, peeking out of the doorway with her ear.
"The buyer was like 'this is beautiful', and I was like 'lady, that's my worst work', but of course I didn't say it out loud because I mean, I've got a buyer, and I would gladly take the money-"
And all that time, Annabeth noticed Percy was looking so intently at Rachel, and Annabeth felt sick again. Then she was sick of herself.
Her best friend had finally found love, someone he was waiting on forever, she was over here sulking and ignoring him.
She pushed herself up, put a wide smile, then decreased it a little, and went inside. Everyone turned their attention to her for a moment.
"Hey."
And they went back to whatever mess they were making.
Annabeth sighed, and sat down on a red beanbag. It was one of her favorite places in Piper's house. For one, it was relaxing, and two, she could reach the bookshelf very easily from her position. She brought out one of her favorite books for nostalgic reading. It was about these kids who were fighting to their death, and in the sequels, they overthrow the government. She was currently reading the second book. It was such a thriller and Annabeth loved it. It was one of those books that had such a big impact on her childhood.
She snuggled in, trying to ignore the laughing couple near her, and focused on the words.
"It's not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you," he says. "I'm okay once I realize you're here."
Annabeth slammed the book face down. Now was not the time.
Unfortunately, the said slam might've attracted everyone's attention. They all started gradually scooting up to Annabeth, and it really creeped Annabeth out. Then she saw Percy turn to the rest of their friends, and they seemed to stop, and go back to whatever they were doing. Percy on the other hand, seemed to get closer.
"What?"
He sat next to her. "What do you mean 'what'?"
"I mean, you guys are acting weird."
Percy laughed incredulously. "You're the one acting weird. Is it Rachel?"
"No, no," she hastily replied. "She seems great."
Annabeth didn't have to lie, but she had to keep her bitterness out. Rachel did really seem like a good friend, and perfect for Percy. Outgoing, bright, artistic. Everything Annabeth wasn't. There comes the bitterness.
Percy smiled so big, Annabeth felt even sicker with herself. This boy was so happy now, and she was decreasing his mood. She didn't even deserve to be in his presence.
"She's amazing, Annabeth. How I got this lucky…"
"How'd you guys meet?"
"Me and Grover went to a wildlife protest, and she was there as well."
Someone with the same interests as Percy as well. She never had any chance, did she?
"Well, describe it to me."
He went into a full-on explanation, and Annabeth tried to listen, but at some point, she lost track, getting swallowed with her own thoughts.
"So Grover kept on nudging me, like 30 times, before I finally asked for her number-"
And that was the moment Annabeth realized she was once again, heartbroken.
And how was I supposed to know (I miss you so), that you were not the one?
After the sleepover(which thankfully didn't spoil her inside thoughts), everything seemed to change. Annabeth's attitude went down, she started taking less care of herself. All her friends were worried, but she barely had the mental strength to get out of her bed.
Even though Percy's relationship was pointedly attacking her, there were a few other factors. For example:
"Annabeth honey, before you go, come here. Your father and I wanted to talk to you."
It was imminent to occur, Annabeth could feel the tension from Helen and her dad the past few days.
She walked back towards them, her backpack slung across her shoulder. "Yes?"
She didn't mean for harshness to roll off her words, but all the resentment she was carrying the past month was gradually bursting.
Helen flinched, while her dad stayed as stoic as normal.
"We were just wondering if you're feeling well? You seemed a little odd, and we get all the pressure highschool has, but we wanted to make sure you're doing fine."
Anger was filling her up, and tears were welling up in her eyes.
"If you cared, you would have asked every other day you could."
This time, her father spoke.
"Annabeth," he said sharply," We want to make sure your grades are good-"
And she burst.
"RIGHT! All you care about is grades! Never about me. Why not ask 'how's your day, Annabeth?' or maybe 'how are you feeling?'? But it's always, always, about grades. What did I do to deserve all this?! The cruelty!"
"Annabeth, the neighbors-"
"I don't give a damn about the neighbors listening! Go ahead, let them listen!"
Annabeth was on roll, everything rolling out of her. Her mixed emotions combined, and she was letting every single feeling she had towards her dad out.
They both looked down, and Annabeth scoffed. "Maybe for once in your life think about the other person. Not just yourself."
The twins were on the stairs, shock expressed on their face, and Annabeth took that as her cue to leave.
She felt her urge to flip the two still adults off, but she knew it would push it, she could only do such things with her friends. She silently exited, the only sound was her boots marching on the ground.
She jogged to school, her cheeks still red with anger and frustration. Once she entered, she noticed only a few students were left in the hallway, noting she was late, so she headed straight to her locker.
She quickly got her stuff, and headed to class.
It was lunch time now, and Annabeth decided to go to lunch, just like every other day, pretending as if everything was fine. Once she sat down at the lunch table, all of her friends' eyes moved towards here, and Annabeth recognized a few body shifts within them as well.
She quietly pulled out her gray lunch bag with lavender flowers, and setted it down on the table. She opened it up, the velcro tearing the only sound from the table, and pulled out her lunch. Annabeth started packing her own lunches since 7th grade, because Bobby and Mathew, always made it hard for Helen to have the time. Today, she packed herself a slice of pizza, an apple, and some vanilla-flavored yogurt.
She started eating her lunch, trying to ease the tension, but it didn't work. She had already known everyone was looking at her, but she just saw that in the corner of all their eyes, except Piper's, they were dying to eat their food. Annabeth decided to take advantage of it.
She took her not-eaten pizza slice, with it's sharp edge, and savored the pizza. She tried to emphasize the slick cheese, and she even let out the tiniest moan, to exemplify the tastiness, and she could see their restraint decreasing every second.
Annabeth finally looked up innocently, as if she had just noticed them, and she saw them all bring their composure together. Piper was the only successful one.
"Why were you late again, Bethie."
"Stop calling me Bethie, Piper. How many times have I told you that?"
"Don't avoid the question. Why were you late?"
She turned to look Piper straight in the face. "It's none of your business."
She could see Piper slightly harden. "We just want to know what's up with our best friend."
Annabeth didn't lie. "Just an argument with Dad and Helen."
Everyone else accepted the answer, but Piper scoffed.
"Yeah? Then what about the past month!?"
Everyone was rallying with their eyes between the two of them.
She furiously glared at Piper, and started getting up, packing her lunch.
"It's not you business, okay?! It's mine, and mine to deal with!"
Piper softened a bit, reaching her hand towards Annabeth's. "We just want to help you. Just let us in."
"I don't want any help, okay!"
And with that, Annabeth left, and perhaps left her friendship with Piper behind as well.
And I'll hurt you and you'll hurt me, and we'll say things we can't repeat
a/n: oof, poor Annabeth. all these feelings on her affecting the people around her. and poor piper as well. wouldn't want to be in her situation. at all.
again, while writing this note, i have no idea if i'll need a 4th, but i'll most definitely make a 3rd part, because, i can't just leave it off here.
this was the opposite of the last chapter, no fluff, more ~kinda angst not really~
oh, and i forgot to do this, but thank you Evelyn(Fairyn) (CHECK HER STORIES OUT, THEY'RE GREAT), around a month ago, I asked for romantic prompts while Percy and Annabeth still friends, maybe you remember, but i used them in my last chapter, so thank you, it helped a lot.
i tried to emphasize how "infatuated" Percy was with Rachel, that he didn't realize his best friend was hurting, so I tugged more on pipabeth's friendship, to make percabeth smaller. yeah, i thought this all through. kinda
again same song, same stuff, yup.
another thing, even though piper knows annabeth isn't feeling good about percy and rachel,
just writing this entire story hurt me, because I have so many better story ideas in my head, but i had already wrote the first chapter when i discovered these ideas, and i was so far in, i decided to just keep on going.
the lyrics for the end totally matched up with what happened, i mean, you have to agree. even though it wasn't between percabeth...
i feel the ending might've been dramatic, but life is dramatic, so...
to warn, there's no much of a plot to this story, just friendship and love.
i just realized, i need to make a summary. ok, bye! :)
hope you enjoy!
2nd author note: yeah, i probably shouldn't have left it at this. not the best ending for now.
um, oh yeah! if you know what book that Annabeth was reading, then go ahead, take a guess. it is quite easy if you've read the books that she was talking about.
i'll respond the reviews in a day or two, thank you if you did(Evelyn and Desk~ you guys are absolutely amazing, honestly).
yeah, that's all i gotta say. most of it was in the 2nd author note of my last chapter.
