"Is it weird that going this way to the city gives me the creeps?"
Phillip was walking down a dirt road, surrounded by a dark forest, preventing any sight farther than right in front of you. Thanks to practice with his enhanced sight, the darkness wasn't all that much of a problem.
No, the problem for Phillip was the uneasy feeling that someone was watching him, and that started almost immediately after entering said forest.
"You've handled worse," Gabriel stated. "Heck, The Darkness Dragon is in you, so it should be that big of a problem."
"Well, the things I've faced were inherently dark creatures. This feeling tend to go for things a bit more… human."
"How's a human worse than a dark creature?"
"One's more predictable."
Phillip continued down the path before hearing a laughter. Turning to his left, a child was seen bouncing a ball, giggling all the while. When Phillip began walking towards her, the kid looked up with a grin, before taking on a full sprint away from him.
Phillip gave chase, which took him almost to the edge of a cliff. Stopping just before the cliff's edge, Phillip gathered his surroundings.
The cliff stretched as far as the eye could see. At the direct bottom, more forest. Farther out, however, was the thing that captured Phillip's eye: a brightly lit city, aka, Saffron City.
Getting to city was easy: Pidgeotto had enough power to lift Phillip without trouble. While Phillip could have tried flying, he wasn't trusting of the ability over anything more than two feet off the ground.
Unfortunately, that still didn't help the disappointment of the city he got into. As it was sun rise by the time he got there, he got to see town at day: an abandoned wasteland. The only person who was even around was a man in a green jumpsuit and hat jogging around blocks.
"WHERE THE F***K IS EVERYONE!?"
Saffron's Gym was far cry from humble. The exterior was intricately designed, the roof given a funky design which was supported by several pillars that seemed randomly placed. A step inside and the place was laminated with gold, with strange pillars holding up the ceiling, each with its own torch for light.
So, to say the gym gave Phillip a headache would be an understatement.
"Well, apparently, Sabrina is full of herself." The man jogging around was kind enough to inform that Sabrina's power made her both feared and respected. This caused the majority of normal people to stay eternally inside while the psychic and normal minority to either train or develop psychic powers, respectfully.
Which became extremely obvious when Phillip looked into one of the rooms the gym had. Everyone in the room was either trying to bend spoons with their minds or trying to read the thoughts of one and thus read the card in their hand.
One of these people came by and asked what he was doing here. When Phillip told the person why, the man just pulled out a spoon and focused on it until he was red in the face. Only then did the spoon bend back.
Phillip gave a deadpan stare. "Is there a reason for this?"
The man tossed Phillip a spoon. "If you can beat me in a battle of psychic powers, only then can you battle Sabrina."
Phillip held the spoon between his index finger and middle finger. One flex later, the spoon was broken in half.
The man stuttered, " T-That's not how-" The man would have said more, if Phillip didn't feel his anger rise past the boiling point, causing Phillip to pick up the man by the scuffs of his lab coat, and slammed him against wall. This caused a human-sized dent in the wall with spider web cracks running.
"Listen, numb nuts, because I'm going to say this once. I came here to fight Sabrina, not to have my metal tested. So, WHERE THE F**K IS SHE!" The man shakily pointed down the hall, Phillip dropped him and left.
Phillip opened the double doors to a room with a brown battle zone. The walls were lined with three gray pillars each, and at the far end was a stair case that lead to indented part that had two large torches going.
"Sabrina, get your dumb bum out here!"
The little girl appeared, in a way that suggested she was sitting in one's lab, on the other side of the room. "Oh, poo. You made me miss my time with my new toys."
Phillip rolled his eyes. "Yeah, 'toys'. Let's call the humans you've reduced to doll that."
Phillip stared hard into the red orbs the little girl had for eyes. "Stop playing with your 'toys' and grow the f**k up!"
The screen rose, revealing the true Sabrina, a pale girl with long, green hair clothed in a red suit complemented by black leggings. "I am full grown."
"Wrong," Phillip growled. "You're a whining little girl who didn't get what she wanted, so she threw a fit. That's what you are!" Phillip tossed a Poké Ball into the Arena, which released the Pokémon within, Wartortle.
Sabrina floated on to her side of the field as the little girl released her own Poké Ball, levitating it to release her Pokémon, Kadabra. "And you are fool, running into a battle you have no hope of winning."
The Pokémon moved, Wartortle running to the side and Kadabra teleporting to the other. With Sabrina's call for the attack of Confusion, Kadabra started its assault. Unfortunately, Wartortle was always moving, making any attacks to hit extremely hard. Wartortle attacked back with Water Gun, but the teleporting enemy was just as hard to hit as Wartortle was.
While the Pokémon were throwing attacks left and right, Phillip and Sabrina were having a contest of will. Sabrina's cold stare versus Phillip's determined stance.
Phillip spoke first. "What reason are you doing this, exactly? What does this get you?" Wartortle retreated into its shell, which began spinning, to take the battle to Kadabra.
Sabrina scoffed. "It's nothing your brain would handle." Kadabra used it psychic power to catch Wartortle before throwing it against the wall in front of it and pinning it.
"THEN TELL ME!" Wartortle broke out of the control through its willpower. "What does this get you?!" Wartortle charged once more, taking the shocked Kadabra by surprise. This allowed Wartortle to pin it. "Power?!" Wartortle slammed a punch straight into Kadabra's face "Fame?!" Another punch hit. "Money?!" Another "Are you so desperate for something that you'd cause so many people so much pain?! ARE YOU THAT SICK?!" Wartortle winded up for one more punch.
"SHUT UP!" With Sabrina's shout, the ground began to shake, stumbling Wartortle enough for Kadabra to launch it to the ceiling. "You know nothing of what I've gone through!" Wartortle slammed into the ground with enough force to make a small crater. "You've never been through my loneliness!" Back to the ceiling. "I need to do this! If I don't…"
"I don't need to!" Wartortle broke out once more. "These people don't keep company out of happiness or pity! They fear you, for what you've done so many other people! If you wanted some friends, you should have looked for some WITHOUT RUINING PEOPLE'S LIVES IN THE PROCESS!" Wartortle threw itself from the ceiling to ram into Kadabra.
Sabrina's cry became so loud and powerful that the resulting earthquake should have been felt on the other side of the world. The power released made Kadabra to evolve. The new creature had the star on its forehead removed, gained an extra spoon and a moustache that reached the creature's midsection.
With this new found power, the creature released a shockwave so powerful, it began ripping the gym apart. Phillip and Wartortle were pushed back with it, but stayed there ground. There is only one more effect that Sabrina had.
Phillip's eyes began to glow blue, in which Wartortle began glowing white.
"I know loneliness is painful. I know it hurts. But if you have to hurt others to get there, THEN WHAT'S THE POINT?!"
Wartortle began to grow. Its shell began to get thicker, wider, and longer along with all limbs attached. As all this was going on, the shell opened to extra slots where two cannon-like appendages appeared out of. Wartortle had completed its evolution.
"So, do everyone a favor, and grow UP!" The new evolution pushed through the shockwave, aimed one of the cannons at Kadabra's new form, and released a torrent of water that sent the Pokémon towards its trainer, knocking both out.
"You know, there would have been an easier way to do this, right?"
These were the words Sabrina woke up to. She turned her head to find Phillip sitting on a chair that leaned against a wall. She would have gotten up from the white sheet covered bed, but the pain kept her down.
"Relax." Phillip said. "The only reason I'm here is to see everyone else." Sabrina looked around to see most of the gym's occupants were with her in what seemed to be the human hospital.
"Besides," Sabrina returned her attention to Phillip, who said, "You weren't wrong when you were looking for friends." Phillip stood up and leaned down to Sabrina's ear. "You just need to go about a better way of doing it."
Phillip walked to the door of the room they were in before stopping and turning. "Also, there's this one thing that beats any friends you could get." With that, Phillip opened the door, allowing Sabrina's mother and father to rush in to see their girl, with Ash, Misty, and Brock not far behind.
Phillip looked back towards Saffron City through the tinted glass of the March Badge. With it coloring the world within it, he saw Ash and co. leaving the gates. He also got to see Sabrina, in a pink sleeveless shirt and khaki pants, bidding her parents goodbye before leaving on her own journey.
Phillip tossed the badge into the air, caught it, and turned back to path.
That's a wrap!
