Summary: A fairy tale retelling of the events at Godric's hollow

WC: 574

Genre: Fantasy, Family

Characters: Lily P., James P., Harry P., Voldemort

Once upon a time, there was a young man and his wife. But his wife wasn't like every other mortal woman, no, for she was a faerie. A very kind and beautiful faerie, beloved by all and who had brought back with her a magical mirror from Faerie-land.

This mirror was a beautiful silver specimen, with diamonds encrusted in its many twists and turns and who's reflection was so pure it could give you pieces of advice. They were always simple things, telling the young man not to go fishing, as it was going to rain, or warning the young faerie not to go to market as she would get her purse robbed. Thus, they lived very peacefully and happily.

But one day, a terrible monster, an enemy of the faeries began to rise out of the darkness. The terrible monster wanted to eliminate all of the faeries in the land. The young man and his wife became very worried, and as the young and beautiful faerie was pregnant, they decided to hide, hoping the terrible monster would not find them.

For a long time, the man and his wife hid, and the beast did not find them. The faerie gave birth to a little boy, a boy who's prophecy had been long told by the fey: he would defeat the terrible monster. The boy grew to see one summer pass before his eyes, but as the nights grew longer, so did the monster's power.

One day, the faerie looked into her trusted mirror and saw only one word of advice: "Run!" Worried, she quickly found her husband and informed him of the terrible message she had received. The young man, after having seen the message for himself began to worry.

He suggested that they did run, leave their home, but the faerie insisted that they should stay. Their little boy was still too young to leave, and some of their close friends had placed many an enchantment around their house to hide them. They ignored their reflection's advice, hoping for the best.

So despite the mirror's warning, that had always turned out to be true, the couple stayed in their home, shivering with fear.

And fear they did, for their friend had betrayed them and lifted the many enchantments around their house. He had even told the terrible monster where the faerie and her family lived.

The terrible monster broke into the young couple's house and killed the young man swiftly. Looking for the faerie, he wandered through the house and finally found her in her room with her baby in her arms, crying.

Gleeful that he had found his target, the terrible monster cast a terrible spell and the faerie and her baby, hoping to kill them both.

But the faerie was clever, and full of love, and just before the spell could hit her, she turned away. The terrible monster's terrible spell hit the trusty mirror, the mirror who had warned of this very night.

The mirror reflected the spell and hit the terrible monster with his own death curse, destroying his mortal envelope forever. But the mirror also shattered, and a jagged piece of glass hit the beautiful faerie in the neck. The only one alive in the house was the baby, protected by his loving mother's arms.

Moral of the story: Trust is not to be undervalued, for the couple trusted the wrong man and ignored their worthy mirror.
