Chapter 2

"Fuck."

As I stand dumbfounded in the middle of the forest, a monstrous roar echoes behind me and I slowly turn my head around to look, seeing what looks like a giant purple moth that can't be more than 100 meters away from me. I break out in a cold sweat and swivel my body around to face the monster as well before slowly lowering my stance and backing away. 'Please don't see me, please don't see me, oh god pleasedon'tseemehowthefuckdoesamothevenroarohmyfuckinggodpleasedon'tseeme-!'

As I pass a tree, I start shimmying behind it while I continue to back away from the monster that seems to be slowly spinning around. '-easedon'tsee me! Wait... why is it... just spinning in place... like... it's looking for... something...' The monster stops spinning, facing in my direction before its eyes flash a glowing menacing red before it begins flying towards me. 'Nai waaa~~' I turn away from it and sprint towards the wall I had been going to before my [System] had flipped me the finger. As I sprint, I can hear the wind from its flapping wings and tears gather in the corner of my eyes. 'Why me~!'

I run out of stamina not even a minute later and lean against the closest tree for a moment, glancing behind me only to see the monster rapidly approaching me. I let out a high-pitched squeak and dive behind the tree into the bushes, hoping it can only see and not smell. And let me tell you, hiding while they can see your hiding spot is not a good idea. At all. Not a moment after I dove into the bushes the monster slams into the tree right next to me, breaking it in half and causing it to begin slowly falling over in my direction. I scramble away from it only to get pinned facedown by one of the large branches and let out a grunt then a yelp of pain from the impact followed by small gashes being dug into my skin. Tears stream down my face as I turn my head to the side, trying to look above myself at the monster slowly closing in. It opens its mouth and its blue saliva drips onto the ground next to me making a fizzing noise as it melts through the moss.

'Oh god I'm going to die again, not even an hour after getting reincarnated! What is this shitty luck! Damn system! Someone, anyone, god, save me...!' I squeeze my eyes shut as I wait for the inevitable and hear the monster let out a roar again, except that it sounds further than I would expect for how close it is, hovering over me. I slowly open my right eye and see that it has backed away and is facing a different direction when another roar is heard. But... it didn't come from the monster chasing me... which means... there's something else... 'Fuck me sideways, wasn't the moth alone enough?!'

I quiet my breathing and pull my limbs in tightly gripping the moss beneath me for dear life, trying to be as small and silent as possible. The moth continues to stare in the direction of the roar and soon enough, a giant boar bursts through the bushes on the opposite side of the moth from me, charging straight for it without slowing down. The moth mostly dodges but one of its wings is clipped and its flight stutters, giving the boar a chance to turn and impale the moth on one of its tusks. All the while I continue to curl in a ball under the collapsed tree with my teeth digging into my bottom lip as I do my best to be as quiet as possible.

The boar lets out another roar before turning back the way it came, dragging the moth on its tusk along the way. 'Holy shit that was close. I would think that –12 Luck would definitely have ended in my dying there...' I slowly release my lower lip from my teeth and loosen my grip on the moss beneath me but don't try to move yet, just breathing steadily as I attempt to calm down, tears streaking down my face. Making sure the monster wasn't coming back, I wait another ten minutes before I push down on the ground, lifting the branch pinning me down with my back and rolling out from underneath it.

'Okay, so, lesson learned, don't insult the [System], just grin and bear it as it insults me. Got it. Understood.' I let out a shaky sigh and push myself up onto my feet, legs wobbling as I lean over and rest my hands on my knees, flinching from the stinging pain of the cuts on my knees... and just about everywhere else on my body. With the reminder of my injuries, I quickly check my HP on my status finding it at 28/50, ever so slowly ticking up. Doing some quick mental math, I find myself paling as that meant I only had 2 HP left when the moth was hovering above me. 'Holy fuck I literally almost died just from the tree...' I spend another 5 minutes resting in that position and would've spent longer if not for the loud ding! that nearly scared the life out of me. As it is, I barely suppressed my scream. After taking a deep breath to calm myself from the scare, I read through the new [System] notification.

[Quest Unlocked!]

[Quest: Exhibitionist Begone!]

[Objectives: Find clothes. Stop being an exhibitionist and become a thief instead! Go find some clothes. Seriously, do it.

Reward: Someone might be on the lookout for a thief now but at least you've got some clothes, right? Oh and 10 XP I guess.

Failure: Congrats you're a pervert and everyone you come across will see your naughty bits.]

'That... that is something I can get behind... but where will I find any in a dungeon...?' I scratch the back of my head before crossing my arms over my chest, glancing around in the process, as though the trees surrounding me had all the answers in the world. 'Well... nothing I can do for now, so I guess I'll get back to travelling towards the dungeon wall, carefully this time. I quickly find my thoughts wandering to strange places as I begin my journey once again. 'I'm a snaaaaake, I'm a sneaky snaaaake! God what is my brain sometimes... Sigh...'

As I continue my trek, with a very slight limp as I hadn't waited for my HP to fully recharge, I somehow don't spot a single monster along the way. I travel peacefully for what feels like half an hour, my limp slowly fading as I heal, which also takes care of the scratches my body had been covered in. When I near the wall the trees begin to thin out, and I find myself seeing more and more of the pink wall of the dungeon. Finally reaching the edge of the forest, I smile as I look down the span of the wall both ways, spotting what looks like a cave entrance a couple hundred meters away from myself to the left. 'Yes! I'd much rather a cave than this vast forest where a monster could pop out of literally nowhere!' I give a little fist pump in excitement before I jog towards the opening arriving in only a few minutes.

Before entering the cave, I slowly peek my head around the corner and squint my eyes as I search to make sure there are no monsters awaiting me inside. It's a rather small cave with a couple glowing crystals on the ceiling for lighting. And as my luck would have it, someone seems to have used this place as a camp before, a burnt-out fire pit centered in the cave but slightly closer to one of the walls. Another quick sweep of my gaze satisfies me that there isn't anything else in here and I creep inside, moving to sit on the semi large rock next to the fire pit and rest my legs. Except that as soon as my butt touches the rock, I find out it isn't a rock at all. Immediately my seat collapses out from under me a loud rattling echoing through the cave as I scramble to my feet and turn around to look at whatever I had just sat on.

I immediately spot the bones sticking out from underneath the cloak I had mistaken for a rock and gag, raising a hand to cover my mouth as I realize I just sat on someone's corpse. 'Holy fuck this isn't happening, oh god I touched it gross...' I rush outside and retch feeling like I need to vomit, but not having anything in me to throw up. I collapse backwards as I sit and lean against the dungeon wall, bringing an arm up over my eyes and taking deep breaths to calm down.

After spending at least ten minutes calming down outside I psyche myself up to go back inside and take a proper look at the corpse on the off chance it has anything I could use. 'Come on, it's just some bones, not that bad, it could've been rotting flesh or something right? I can do this. It's just... some bones...' I chuckle dryly to myself when it doesn't work but make my way back into the cave regardless. I slowly approach the corpse, crouching as I near it and gripping the grey cloak between the fingers of my right hand. I attempt to drag it off the corpse fully only to drag most of the spine for a few moments before it slips out of the cloaks hood. I close my eyes and breathe deeply, doing my best not to freak out, succeeding this time as I drag the cloak fully to myself revealing what's left of the corpse. Which... isn't very much, it looks like something had chewed on most of the bones, the ribs are broken off and scattered around the floor and the legs are completely missing, likely having been eaten by whatever killed this poor sap. 'That or died from something else and was eaten afterwards...' I note morbidly.

I clasp my hands together and pay my respects as well as my thanks for the cloak. Sadly, I have neither the tools nor the strength to be burying a corpse right now, not to mention the monster infested dungeon awaiting me when I do leave this cave. I sigh sadly and begin untying the knot at the neck of the cloak, quickly dragging it over my shoulders and re-tying the knot around my neck.

[Quest Complete!]

[Quest: Exhibitionist Begone!, Has been completed.]

[Rewards received: 10 XP, and well, you're still a pervert, but now, you're a cultured pervert! And no one's looking for you since they're kind of dead, being a pile of bones and whatnot. Lucky you.]

I let out an amused huff as I read the notification before I decide to put the bones in the corner of the cave, promising to come back and bury the body properly if I ever get the chance, but for now I'd rather not stare at them while I sit next to the fire pit to take a break.

[Quest Unlocked!]

"Eh, already?" I mumble to myself as I turn my gaze to the new quest notification.

[Quest: A Belated Burial]

[Objectives: Return to the [Cave Camp] to bury the bones of the deceased.

Bonus objective: Find their Familia and bring them with you for the burial.

Reward: 50 XP I guess... oh, and their ghost won't haunt you lol.

Bonus Reward: ? Respect +500, Title; [Friend of ?], 50000 XP

Failure: ur definitely gonna be haunted lol.]

"H-haunted?!" I whisper shriek when I see what would happen upon failure an extremely cold chill running up my spine as I go into a full-blown fit of mumbling to myself. "Oh god, not ghosts, anythungbutghosts-' Taking a second look, still mumbling to myself all the while, I notice the bonus and find myself shocked out of my little panic attack when I read the XP reward. 'Isn't 50k a bit much?! A level right now is only 100 XP! And... Familia? Isn't that, like, the Italian mafia or whatever?'

I tap my chin as I try to think if there's anything else it could be, but nothing comes to mind so I shrug my shoulders and give up on it for now. Shaking my head to clear my mind of thoughts about being haunted, I bend down to grab the bones and move them to the corner of the cave. After putting them in the corner I head back to the fire pit and almost trip on something I didn't see underneath the pile of bones. A dagger. A very sharp, and very shiny dagger.

"Yes! A weapon! Much better than using my bare hands." Even in my excitement I remember to keep my voice down, although I can't do anything about the smile splitting my face, nor would I want to. I reach down to pick it up flinching for a moment when light reflects off it into my eyes, giving it a couple experimental swings, and find myself quite satisfied with the light weight of it, as my strength is abysmal as of right now. Finally taking a seat next to the fire pit I just sit and relax for a few minutes until I decide to check my [Status] as well as if I can figure out any aspects of my [System] I had missed out on due to the tutorial being ended so abruptly.

I look on confusedly at my endurance and vitality stats until I remember I literally had a tree fall on me... 'Oh right, my HP had been 10 before hadn't it? I guess that explains the increase...' Glancing at my stats once again, my eyes honing on the –12 Luck, I click my tongue in annoyance at the reminder that the [System] had made my luck even worse, 'But at least almost dying raised some stats I suppose... Ha. Haha.' I clear my head of my morbid thoughts before moving on to the submenus that I had skipped. 'Well, no time like the present, [Skills].'

[Skills]

Passive: [?#%%*+'?!] [Truck-Kun's Blessing]

Active: [Inspect]

'Inspect, huh? Then let's try... [Inspect]!' I mentally command while staring at my passive skills. Immediately two new screens pop up over my [Status] page.

[?#%%*+'?!: The system will mock you to the best of its AI capabilities. Other effects are currently unknown. Git gud idiot.]

[Truck-Kun's Blessing: get isekai'd lol]

'...' I stare at the descriptions with a deadpan expression, realizing that the insults won't be going away any time soon, if ever. Letting out a quiet sigh I move on to using [Inspect] on itself as well as all my stats.

I nod my head along as I study the values of my stats and how they affect my overall [Status], 'Although by that ending comment, I'm sure they all do more than it says here. For now, this will help me understand better at least until I can properly level... Well, if it's just levelling up [Inspect], I guess I'll just have to [Inspect] everything! Hehehe~. Just like all those Light Novel protagonists!'

"Starting with... you! [Inspect]!"

[Decayed Remains: the body is too decayed to lead to any solid conclusions, what did you expect? Ba~ka!]

"Tch." I click my tongue as I was really hoping I could get more info for the quest from that. I bring up my dagger to inspect next, marveling at how it still looks brand new, the sharpness not having dulled at all over time from the looks of it.

[Kopis of the Maiden

Effects: Imbued with the powers of purity and precision, deals 300% damage to [Undead] enemies.

Description: A kopis blessed by a goddess you have not identified. The blessing seems somewhat faded, but it may be able to be renewed... somehow.]

I break out in a huge grin seeing that my dagger has amazing stats and would carry me well until I can gain better levels and stats to survive this damnable dungeon. Caught up in my excitement I continue to inspect everything around me in hopes of levelling up [Inspect].

One [Inspect] spree later.

[Inspect has levelled up!]

'All of that... just for one level...' My shoulders sag as I feel slightly gloomy after spending the last couple hours using [Inspect] on everything inside the cave as well as everything I can see of the forest without leaving the cave, only to get one level. Deciding to sleep off my gloomy mood, not to mention my exhaustion from my earlier encounter, I close my eyes and almost instantly fall asleep. Completely missing the following notifications after the [Inspect] one.

AN: I have a feeling there will be some confusion of 'She has –12 luck, how the heck is she so lucky?!', and I have two words for you. Title. Effects. ;)
