I know this came out of the blue, like literally, out of nowhere, from the perspective of people used to PAW Patrol fanfics, but I've been playing Terraria recently, and when I got the Moon Charm in Hardmode (no, not Hardcore! Hardcore applies to characters while Hardmode is part of the plot of the game), I got inspired to write a Terraria fanfic because the ones already out there are not interesting to me, which brought up this idea of a lonely werewolf trying to make friends.
This might seem OC-heavy, but it's because Terraria is a lot like Minecraft. Also, Each NPC has a set list of names that could be "given" when said NPC spawns in a world. Disclaimer: I don't own Terraria, just this fanfic and any OC NPCs/Bosses I came up with on the way.
Without further notes, let's begin.
Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
Because of being a werewolf, Lupin was abandoned as a baby, because his biological parents hated werewolves for some crazy reason. He was tossed out and thrown away seconds after he was born. He was forced to live in the streets and had an awful life in his childhood.
Sighing, he turned around and saw other human children playing games like Chess and Checkers, shielded from the cold, dark wind howling from the full moon with, snow covering the slanted rooftops of the comfy houses. He felt a little off inside, and wondered why he was born like this, both day and night.
"Guess I'll never find a home in this world," he sighed again, like the cold, damp, soil underneath his feet as he saw the full frost moon sink below the horizon while the morning sun was rising. There were no humans he could trust. No one likes him. Not a single man. Ever.
Every person he tries to talk to does either one of 3 things: Shoot him, stab him, or run. Not even the friendliest snowman would try to talk to him. Despite all this, there are rumors that there's one person named Seth that is searching for such a creature that has the potential to become a hero. Wanting to have a friend, he gathered his copper shortsword, axe, and pickaxe, and headed his way south. Little did he know that there are some insane cultists trying to resurrect a cosmic god-like demon, known to mortals as Cthulhu.
While Lupin was walking, he saw some humans dressed in purple costumes, ignoring the people handing out demonite-themed goodie bags that are probably toxic to werewolves like our protagonist here. Continuing south, he saw people in similar clothing, giving out crimtane-themed goodie bags. A black, fox-eared woman waved out to him, willing to study him. Seeing this as Schmuck bait, he declined again and trotted along to the outskirts of town, encountering some carnivorous Ice Slimes which saw Lupus as food and tried to eat him like most animals would if it was on their diet, knocking him in different directions due the slimes dogpiling on him.
After several seconds of being knocked around, he got annoyed at the slimes and pulled out his copper shortsword, stabbing the slimy cnidarians and ripping them apart, ruffling his fur in the process while leaving gel left behind from the now-dead corpses of terrestrial cnidarians (pronunciation: sin-där-an). He picked up the materials laying on the ground. He proceeded forwards to a quiet forest, with plenty of birds and squirrels.
He continued forwards and found a quiet man who was initially frightened at the sight of Lupin, but calmed down once Seth realized that the werewolf that he thought was "attacking" him just wanted to be friends.
"I honestly was never expecting a werewolf like you would want to make friends with me. I thought I was werewolf chow. Anyways, what's your name?" a relieved Seth asked a quiet Lupin.
"L-l- Lupin," he shuttered, waiting for what he will do next.
"Hm, Lupin, right?" Seth asked for confirmation, waiting for a response.
"Yes. Yes it is. Are you Seth?"
"Yes. Like you, I'm also homeless..." He started in a sympathetic tone, then reverted to a more casual one after a pause, "Well, after the house I used to to live in got wrecked by a furious thundercloud a few months ago. The remains can be found there." Seth pointed to a former cabin with its roof and most of its walls torn off, which shocked Lupin the moment he saw the remains of what was once a comfy house that could have held the two of them together. "Could you help me get some wood and metal to repair it? If you do, you can move in if you want."
"Sure... For both, if I knew how to use tools without cutting anyone's arm off." Lupin replied with a complexly-worded answer that Seth could easily interpret as being unable to use them properly without damaging other stuff as well.
"Target the base of the tree to get as much wood as possible. That will yield the most wood without ugly stumps left behind," Seth advised Lupin.
The werewolf listened somewhat, but was still a little bit reckless when he cut some wildflowers and sliced a rabbit as if he was blind, proving his recklessness.
"Told you I was reckless with tools..." Lupin's quote puzzled Seth, who easily shook off that question when he remembered that he killed a few critters while mining a while back.
"I remember killing critters while mining, too. You've done a good job mining Trees, Lupin."
"I-i- am?" Lupin was amazed that Seth made a good compliment, the first given to the brown werewolf in a while. Seth then told him that his next job was to mine ore, but before that, Lupin crafted a fishing rod out of some wood he got, using the leftovers from repairing Seth's house.
"Copper tools are not very good at mining, so you might wanna get better tools. You can go to this cave to the north to get some ore over there," Seth suggested to Lupin, who immediately got to work on repairing their house
Lupin went inside the cave and found some chests near its mouth, iron and tungsten slightly below it, a bunch of cobwebs in an east branch, and he went fishing and caught some blind cave fish. He then showed his loot to Seth, who was astonished to see how much loot he got.
"Wow, you have found so much stuff down there," Seth complimented on Lupin's survival skills, "I could barely be able to get all that myself! You must be a natural at mining, Lupin." Seth then paused for a moment, before resuming his sentence, "I think you have enough Tungsten to make some better tools. Also, you might want this sword," he paused in his tracks, then pulled out a blue sword with yellow lines. "Take this, it's an enchanted sword."
"Th-th-th- thank you, Seth! You're the nicest person I've ever seen!" Lupin was about to touch it, but was stopped by Seth when he realized that he forgot the deal he made with Lupin.
"But first you have to repair my house, or our house, as it will be soon. Then you'll get it."
"Oops..." Lupin realized that he forgot the deal as well, when he saw the almost-complete house to the west. He then started to finish the house, and in several minutes, he got his enchanted sword as promised.
"You can move in as well," Seth continued talking as the sun set in the horizon, not realizing that it was dusk until he saw Lupin embracing the cold, harsh temperatures he was used to. "Woah, Lupin! You don't have to do that because we live together now."
"Oops, forgot that as well."
The 2 went inside the now-repaired house and to Lupin's surprise, an old man in a brown outfit was standing near the workbench that was next to to the wall.
"Nice to meet you, Lupin. In case you ever need anything, you can come to me," Frank greeted Lupin with a smile, but the werewolf was surprised to see him.
"Oh, I almost forgot that I was supposed to introduce Frank to you, Lupin," he uttered a message that Lupin could interpret as forgetfulness. "Dang, why am I so forgetful sometimes?"
Seth was about to ask Lupin, but then he saw the brown werewolf sleeping in bed, sensing the feeling of comfort for the first time with iron tools nearby. Seth then set down the enchanted sword near his iron tools.
"Guess you should go to sleep, too. I think this is a good wrap up for this chapter.
"Maybe we should go exploring tomorrow." The 2 chatted, feeling comfortable seeing Lupin all wrapped up, in cozy comfort that's so soft you would not want to get up if you slept there.
To Be Continued...
NPCs gained: Seth the Guide and Frank the Merchant
Bosses Fought: No bosses fought yet.
Author's Notes: Never, ever, ever take a stray dog/cat as a pet because those have bad behavior and may abuse your kindness and any stuff you gave to them. Wild-caught small animals like toads, small fish, and lizards make okay pets, but be aware that lizards may try to bite you when handled, in addition to fish trying to jump out, and that it's illegal to take animals from the wild as well. Captive-bred animals like axolotls (who still try to jump out, though) are the best pets to have (assuming they're from a legitimate business, that is).
