Aaahhh sleep, it's one of the best things in life. Until you have to get up that is, then it's the worst and boy did I feel it today. I made sure that I got up early, before the sun even came up, just to make sure I was at school on time. I forgot to ask what time it was yesterday so it's my own fault. Anyway, I wandered the halls a bit looking to find either a bathroom or someone who could lead me to one, which I ended up having to do. luckily enough I found another mole to lead me to it. And apparently it was one of many around the temple, but it's massive. It had all the standard things an in house bathroom would have, but to dragon standards naturally. So I do take a quick rinse. When I'm done I dry myself off with my wind element. I check the hall to make sure no one will walk in on me and then I breathe a couple puffs of fire to clean my mouth. Sure beats using a toothbrush let me tell you. So with that out of the way I think I'll do some exploring until the others wake up to go to school.
Turns out, the temple had a reflective design to it. The left side, more often than not, matched the right. Except for some of the more specific things like the kitchen or the training room the kitchen is actually toward the back and the training area is in the center. I didn't bother going upstairs, I didn't want to push my luck, but at least I know where all of the bathrooms are at, on the first floor anyway. I've also found my favorite spot. It was this balcony along one of the halls and it overlooked Warfang's Park. It was a really nice view and I almost got stuck there. Well, since I'm pretty much done exploring I think I'll go back there and wait for everybody to get up. It's strange though. Why isn't anyone up yet? Then I bump into Spyro.
"Hay Sam! There you are. How come you weren't at breakfast this morning?"
"Huh? I didn't know it was planned. I'm still new here, remember."
"Oh ya, that's right. Sorry about that. The Guardians usually take care of stuff like this. I'll come get you in the morning then if you want?"
"No, it's fine I was actually up really early this morning exploring the place."
"Well that saves me the trouble of showing you around later at least"
We share a quick laugh and we continue down the hall.
"So where's Cynder? you two aren't usually that far apart."
"Actually, she went to get you up, I think she said something along the lines of 'I'll get Mr. lazy scales up' and that she would meet me at the front entrance"
"Wait till she finds out she wasted her time."
"She is so gonna hurt you"
Right about that time you could hear something, or someone, thundering through the halls
"Your guys are gonna pay!!"
She came skidding around the corner cloaked in shadow looking like she was straight from a nightmare. I can honestly say I was scared to the bone, and it wasn't just the fear element making me say that.
"I can't believe you! You were up the whole time and you didn't even come to breakfast! What! Is! Wrong with you!!! I swear you ever pull…"
She just kept going and going, I actually lost track of what she was saying. Then Spyro leans over and whispers in my ear.
"She was so excited to have a new friend, she wouldn't stop talking about it until she passed out."
"Really? I thought she didn't like me."
"Well not at first, but she is really hoping you were being honest. So please don't let her down."
"I won't, don't worry….. so when did you two start sleeping together?"
This stopped Cynder cold in her rant and made Spyro's jaw hit the floor.
"What? it's just a question, unless others weren't supposed to know about it."
Ooo, do I have some blackmail material?
Cynder manages to break from her stun first and quickly tries to clear them
"It's not what you think, I swear! I'm….just….afraid to be alone"
Well now I feel bad, but I'm not going to let it go entirely, I'll get more out of Spyro later.
"I'm sorry Cynder, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. And if it'll make you feel better I'll give you some dirt on me later."
"I guess that will work for now." She gives a little bit of a pout, but seems to be doing better. Spyro however is a different story, he's still blushing. Ya, he's definitely head over paws for her. So, being satisfied with what I got I let them off easy and change the subject
"So. Are we ready to go?"
Spyro quickly takes up the new topic and gestures toward the door.
"Yes! Let's get going! Don't want to be late on the first day!"
He is soooo bad at hiding his feelings. Either Cynder is oblivious or she is waiting until he works up the confidence to confess.
So with Spyro and Cynder leading, we make our way through the city toward the school. It was a really uncomfortable walk, everyone was staring at us. Some looking at us with some interest, others with disgust. I would have left Warfang the first chance I got if I was either of them. But it doesn't look like it bothers them, at least on the outside anyway. With that outburst from Cynder yesterday, I seriously doubt that it doesn't bother them. They just grin and bear it. When will there suffering stop? When will they get to live their lives!? I want to help them. I need to, or no one else will.
Once we actually get on the school grounds we are separated by elemental class, Spyro and Cynder being an exception. They get a special class all their own since they have more than one element. So at least I don't have to worry about students Being jerks, but what about staff? They could get a total ass of a teacher. I'll just work around it I guess. Which means I need to do more reading. That reminds me. I need to find a place to practice my other elements in private.
Classes are going along nicely, I really only learned from the one on dragon history so I've been more or less bored all day. Right now our instructor is giving us a lesson on how to control the air around us, which is the very basics of a wind dragon's power, so I'm a little disinterested. I also can't help but worry about Spyro and Cynder…
"Sam! Are you paying attention!!"
Ah great, one of Those teachers
"Yes Mrs. Fig, you were talking about how we can focus our energy to move the air around us and how we can eventually consolidate air to make something physical."
I already knew this, perfectly actually.
"Ok Mr. smart alec, since you know it so well why don't you give us a little presentation"
She thinks she has me, well she's got another thing comin.
"Everyone, you might want to hold down your things."
Only a few actually take me seriously so now I know who to talk to. So thanks Mrs. Fig for being a Bitch on the first day of school. So it's only fair I give you a present in return. I began churning the air around me and then when I had it charged, I let it burst. It created a mini cyclone in the room and threw Mrs Fig's and everyone else's things about the room (except for the ones who listened of course). Then Mrs. Fig gives me the 'how dare you' look.
"You need to learn better control of your power Sam, that could have hurt someone."
"I was in complete control Mrs. Fig."
"No you weren't, you're just a novice with a bit of power, that's all."
I'm already tired of her, so I make a point. I used my wind again but this time i used it to pick up everyone's things and put them back, except Mrs. Fig's. And with that I take my seat and wait for her to respond.
"I won't be putting up with your disrespect Sam, don't test me."
"What disrespect. I did what you asked me."
"You're trying to make a fool of me in front of your peers."
"How so?" Ok now I'm really being a petty bitch, I'll just let her dig her own hole.
"How so!? You throw everyone's stuff around the classroom, then you put everything back except mine. How are you not being disrespectful!?"
"I don't know what you mean Mrs. Fig, like you said, I'm only a novice. So there is no way I could have such control over the wind to do that." This pissed her off real quick
"OUT!! Get out of this classroom Right NOW!!"
Perfect! Now that she's kicked me out I can go check on Spyro and Cynder.
"Ok then, have a nice day everyone! It was nice meeting you!"
"Oh don't think it's that simple. You're going to see the dean."
"Ok, I'll tell him that you punished me for doing what you asked." And before she could respond, I left the room.
So with that out of the way, I can head to Spyro And Cynder's classroom. I'm glad I walked with them to it earlier or I would have never found the place. I make a cautious knock on the door and open it slowly. Inside I find just Spyro, Cynder and an older looking tan and green dragon.
"Hello, I'm not interrupting am I?"
"No not at all, you actually came in at the perfect time. I wanted to teach Cynder a new wind technique but I need someone familiar with the wind element to show it to her."
"Ok, what do you need me to do?" This dragon seems nice enough. He genuinely wants to teach them and he's kind too.
"Can you help her with the wind wing enchantment?"
"Uh, that's not exactly in my range of capabilities." I don't want to give away any more about my strength then I want to unless I have to.
"Really? Then how do you even know about it and it's difficulty? unless you've experienced it before?"
Oh he's good, I like him!
"And besides Sam I already know who you are. I can see your essence."
Ooh, so this is the friend of Ignitus. Now I'm sure he's the best teacher for these two.
"Ok I give. You ready Cynder?"
"You bet!"
With that I spent the next 20 minutes or so helping her learn how to feel the wind around her and to condense it around her wings to not only protect them but to make them bigger and stronger while the enchantment lasts.
I was getting ready to have her actually try it when the classroom door slams open. And standing there was a very angry Mrs. Fig and a rather confused dragon behind her.
"So this is where you've been hiding you brat! I told you to go to the dean!"
I just looked at her with the most annoyed look I had and told her quite simply.
"I had more important things to do than to follow the commands of an incompetent teacher"
This actually made her look even angrier than before, until she gets a smug look on her face.
"See, I told you Mr. Parker he's entirely disrespectful and lacks any potential to be thought"
I had a pretty good feeling that was the dean behind her, so I already had the perfect response ready.
"Of course I would seem unteachable by someone who knows less then me on the element, and excuse my rudeness Mr. Parker, but I was asked by Mrs. Fig to do a presentation of simple wind techniques, which I did, but she ridiculed me in front of my peers. So I cleaned up my mess and went back to my seat without another word, but she decided to badger me some more in front of the class. You can ask any one of them. They all saw her do it."
"Mrs. Fig, is this true?
"Excuse me!? Aren't you supposed to back your staff?"
"Yes but the students are a higher priority, and if you're bullying them then I cannot let it stand"
"Mr. Parker, before you take drastic action and put a class behind by firing a teacher. I'd be willing to drop it if you let me transfer to this one."
"That's nice of you to offer Sam, but I can't just let you swap to an advanced class like this out of nowhere" Mr. Parker has a bit of a guilty look from this but I still might have an out for him
"What if I bested my teacher in elemental combat?"
Mr. Parker lights up with the idea.
"Actually that would be just the way to solve this whole thing! If You beat Mrs Fig. I'll let you transfer to the advanced class, but if she wins. I'll have no choice but to suspend you since it would also prove that you were just disrespectful without any merit."
"That's fine by me."
"Then after school today we can hold the battle"
"Actually can we make this a private battle. I don't want to be seen as some freak for being able to beat an adult"
"I don't see how anyone would see you ass a freak, but ok, I can arrange that."
