Part Twelve - September 5, 2021
Rory was content. She was pressed against Logan's body, his arm draped around her, his finger tracing circles on the back of her neck while they watched the news, to an outsider it probably looked like a couple who had been together for years just enjoying a casual night in, but Rory would label it as her best first date. They had enjoyed dinner at the counter where Rory had learned that there was something beyond sensual about Logan feeding her bites of his food, and after Rory quickly did the dishes, Logan had harassed her into letting him see one of her most recent articles which he had high praise for, then they found themselves on the couch watching various shows. "Logan," Rory mumbled into his neck.
"Hmm?" he squeezed her a little bit closer.
"Spend the night," Rory told him, "we don't have to do anything…I just like you here. I like this." That was only a half truth, but Rory would accept him staying however she could get it.
"I like this too Ace, but I have a meeting I really can't be late for."
Rory sat up ever so slightly and pouted. The other half of her wanted to climb into his lap and show him all the ideas she had to make him stay, but she also didn't want to be unfair, "nothing I can do to change your mind?"
"Do you have any clothes that will fit me?" Logan laughed. His meeting was at eight and he knew that if he spent the night he would have to be up too early, otherwise he would've gladly stayed wrapped up in Rory until the sun came up.
"These pants could look cute," Rory laughed.
"You might be the only one who thinks that," Logan told her as he looked at his watch, "Ace, I've gotta get ready to go soon." Rory sat up ever so slightly and kissed him gently, she didn't want him to leave, and at the very least, she wanted him to understand just how much she wanted him to stay. "Rory," Logan groaned against her lips as she bit his bottom lip and gained access to his mouth, maneuvering her body so it was now straddling him and his hands were on her hips, "you're making this impossible."
"I think," Rory pushed her hips down into his lap, smiling as she could feel his growing erection through his pants, "that is the point."
Logan smiled and allowed Rory to continue her assault on his mouth, he loved the feeling of her fingers against his skin as she pulled his shirt off, he lifted his arms to make it easier and her lips moved to his neck, her hands were on his chest and she continued to rock her hips back and forth ever so slowly on his lap, he was certain should we be the death of him. "Bed," he growled as he lifted her up, she grinned and wrapped her legs tightly around his waist as they walked, "you're over dressed."
"You're impatient," Rory countered as Logan carried her into her bedroom and tossed her gently on the bed, it was forceful enough that it was an absolute turn on to Rory, and she immediately pulled her tank top off, her head resting on the pillow with her hair spread out around her and her entire upper half uncovered, "what're you waiting for?" Rory teased as she lifted up her hips and peeled her black pants off slowly, leaving only a white lace thong on her body.
"You're killing me, Ace," Logan crawled on top of her and pressed a desperate kiss into her lips.
"That's the point."

"Too early," Rory groaned, "mean phone."
"I warned you," Logan rolled over and rubbed his eyes, "I have to get back to my place and change and go to this meeting."
"You should go naked," Rory pulled him towards her for a kiss.
"Can I shower here?"
"Can I join you?"
"Not a chance."
"Fine," Rory slumped back in the bed, "go, I'm sleeping."
"Last night was fun," Logan placed a quick kiss on her lips before sitting up and checking his phone for a moment, "are you free tonight?"
"Two dates in two days?"
"I thought last night wasn't an official date? I need to wine you, dine you, show you off…"
"Haven't you been doing that since Christmas?" Rory laughed, "go shower, call me after your meeting and we'll make plans."
"Go to sleep, Ace," Logan told her before he disappeared into the shower. He had intended to go home the night before, but there was something about Rory curled up in his arms that he couldn't bring himself to leave, and so he had instead decided to wake up early and head home. By the time he was out of the shower, Rory was fast asleep and he took one of the spare keys she kept in her junk drawer to lock up on the way out, leaving a note to say he would return it when he saw her. He opted to walk back to his condo, he needed to clear his head, to burn some energy before his meeting. He was meeting with a man who owned six newspapers in Australia that his father was trying to buy. The meeting had been scheduled for Friday, but Logan had rescheduled it a few weeks earlier in order to attend the wedding, so he certainly wasn't about to show up late now. He would close the deal and hopefully be back at home by the time Rory was waking up for the second time that morning. He made himself a coffee to go and got dressed in a suit that was much too warm for this time of year, but nonetheless important for the image he had to portray. The last thing he needed was for this deal to fall apart because someone didn't think he took his job seriously. Logan was constantly trying to get away from the opinions that had been formed about him when he started working for the company fresh out of college, it had been almost ten years that he had been working full-time with Huntzberger and he had proven himself in every way humanly possible.
The meeting went well, Logan had the signed contracts and on his return to his building, called his father to update him. Mitchum was impressed and glad that Logan had managed to get the job done. That was typical Mitchum, he could never just praise Logan, there was always an underhanded dig about his work ethic, or shock over Logan's dedication to his job. This time however, Mitchum surprised Logan by asking to meet him for dinner in Hartford that Friday. Logan had told Mitchum he would get back to him, the truth was, he wanted to run it by Rory. When they were involved in their holidate situation, he would have agreed and then texted her to confirm if she was free, but as dumb as it sounded, the idea of bringing her home now that things were different was surreal. He wondered if anyone who had thought they were dating before would notice a shift in their relationship. He certainly knew his own parents wouldn't because that would involve them caring about any of it on more than a superficial level which he was certain would never happen.
"Well, this is a surprise," Logan smiled at the blonde greeting him when he walked into his living room after getting changed, "everything alright?"
"Your nephew broke his arm," Honor pouted, she was visibly pregnant and clearly upset as Logan pulled her in for a hug.
"Where are the girls?"
"With mom."
"You sure that's safe?"
"Dad, the housekeeper and Brody are both there too. He has a cast."
"He's a kid, Hon. Kids get casts."
"How would you know?"
"I broke my arm around the same age, remember? Climbing a tree at the old place in the Hamptons…"
Honor smiled, "he reminds me so much of you."
"You sure you're alright? Come on, sit down, can I get you something?"
"If I ask for vodka will you give it to me?"
"No, but I'll put water in a shot glass if it'll make you feel better," Logan told her as he ushered her to the couch.
"Very funny little brother," Honor pouted, "do you think you'll ever have kids? Because not only have they given me worry lines, wrinkles, ruined my body, don't get me started on my boobs which no surgeon has been able to make as perky as they once were," Logan made a face at Honor's statement, "but they just…I worry about them, constantly. No one warns you that they will consume every part of you all the time."
Logan shrugged, "I don't know if I want kids."
"You would have to meet someone, and you aren't getting any younger Logan. You have to figure you'd want to know someone for a couple of years and then have kids, and that assumes that she is just a fertile myrtle and gets knocked up on the first try. We have friends who have been going through IVF and fertility treatments and everything for years, and still no baby."
"Honor, kids aren't on my horizon, and I'm not about to think about something when it's such a far out possibility. You have always wanted to be a mom, maybe to prove to our mom that you can do a better job than she did, which you are, for the record. But…my battle was dad. I wanted him to take me seriously, to know I could take over the company…"
"Did you just compare the company to my children?"
Logan laughed, of course that is what she would have taken from the situation, "no, I'm saying that I have never wanted kids, I have however wanted to be successful in the business."
"Well you're doing better at the business than I am at being a parent."
"Dad invited me for dinner on Friday," Logan changed the subject.
"Oh?"
"Wouldn't give me any details but I agreed. I just closed a big deal, we bought a company in Australia, so it's the whole expansion always thing he loves."
"And what are you going to do about your girlfriend situation?" Honor had held her tongue when Logan had declared Rory had been working when she had missed their parents anniversary party a few weeks earlier.
"I'll ask Rory if she wants to come," Logan knew he was going to drive her nuts. Honor hadn't been particularly impressed when Rory dropped off the face of the earth. She had expressed to her brother, many times, how stupid their setup was and how someone being hurt, in this case Logan, had been inevitable the entire time.
"Did you finally call her back?" Honor glared at him. She hadn't been happy about how Rory had up and vanished, but she also wasn't impressed with how Logan had chosen to handle the situation. They both could have, and should have done better.
"We saw each other," Logan told her.
"Oh my god," Honor perked up, "you had sex with her."
"Honor you already knew I had sex with her," Logan countered, he had given his sister a high level overview of their tryst over the July 4th weekend in an effort to help her understand why he was so bothered by Rory just leaving.
"No," Honor shook her head, "no, something is up. What is going on? When did you and Rory start talking again? Last I heard you two weren't speaking. Spill."
"We saw each other at the wedding, we talked."
"And?" Honor was impatiently tapping her foot on the ground.
"And what?"
"And what? She said 'hey let's go back to pretending to date for our families' and you just said 'sure'?"
"Not exactly."
"Logan, darling, I am far too pregnant to play this game. Tell me what is going on or I will go see Rory and get it out of her."
"We're dating… or we're going to try to date."
"Oh my god," Honor squealed, "you admitted it? You told her how you felt? I knew it. I knew the way you looked at her that you had a crush on her! This is so wonderful. Rory is so lovely."
"I won't even bother pointing out that a few weeks ago you had some not so nice things to say about her…"
"That was in solidarity," Honor shrugged, "obviously you are my brother, and we are bonded by being raised by the sociopaths we call mom and dad, but Rory is a friend."
"Well, she can still be a friend, we are dating."
"And that is why you didn't come home last night?"
"How did you know I didn't come home last night?" Logan wasn't sure he wanted the answer to that.
Honor laughed, "when I got here and you were in the shower, I looked in your room at first because I wasn't sure if you were home or not. No shoes at the door, no dishes in the sink, and your bed was made and I lived with you long enough to know you never make your bed, the lovely Maria does, and Maria wouldn't be working this early on a holiday, so my fancy education paid off and I had to assume you didn't come home last night…but now with this little tidbit, I am going to assume that you stayed with Rory…"
"I was with Rory," Logan nodded.
"Oh brother, you have got it bad for this girl."
"We're just starting to see each other."
"Alright, sure, whatever," Honor waved him off, "but Logan, you do know her, you two know each other, you have this weird shorthand that I have never seen you have with anyone, not even Laura, the only other person you have it with is me, or maybe the boys, but that is about stupid boy stuff. You and Rory just…you fit together."
"We think so too," Logan smiled.
"I'm so happy for you. Thank you, this is what I needed. I feel so much better about Jude now!"
"You feel better about his broken arm because I am dating Rory?"
"No, I feel better about life because you're dating Rory. Jude still sucks, well, he doesn't suck, of course, the arm sucks. But he'll recover."
"So now that you've calmed down about Jude, what are the chances you'll vacate my place and go return to your family?"
"Trying to get rid of me so soon?"
"As a matter of fact, I am."
"Mean."
"I want to plan a date with Rory."
"Well fine."

Logan knocked on Rory's door, he had told her he would pick her up at seven, and that was about all he was giving away about their date. He smiled immediately when she opened the door and he held up the key he had taken that morning, "yours," he told her as he pulled her in for a kiss.
"You stole a key?" Rory joked, "why didn't you just let yourself in?"
"Because I didn't ask for a key, I just borrowed it, so letting myself into your place felt more stalker and less boyfriend."
"Boyfriend, eh? How did that feel…"
"Hurt right here a little," Logan pointed to his lips and Rory kissed him once more, "just a bit more?" Logan grinned.
"If this is what being your girlfriend is going to be like," Rory kissed him, resting her head against hers, "what do I need for tonight? You couldn't have been more vague…"
"Do you have comfortable shoes?"
"I do," Rory showed him her white sneakers.
"Well then, we're good," Logan told her, "lock up and follow me."
"Logan," Rory laughed as she locked the door and he reached for her hand, pulling her behind him down the hall, he pushed the elevator button and pulled her in for a kiss, "meeting went well?"
Logan nodded as they stepped onto the elevator, "it went really well. I closed the deal so the contracts are all signed for us to buy a group of papers in Australia which is pretty cool. My dad invited me to dinner on Friday in Hartford. What are the chances I can coax you into joining me?"
Rory smiled, she liked seeing that he was excited about his work, "I can't," she told him, pressing her lips together as she saw disappointment wash across his face. "I'm sorry, I have a work thing."
"That's fine," Logan assured her as they walked onto the street, he would by lying if he said he wasn't disappointed, but he understood why she couldn't come.
"Would he change it to Saturday?" Rory asked as they walked hand in hand through the streets.
"I can ask," Logan shrugged, "it really isn't a big deal."
"It is a big deal," Rory countered, "he is trying to show you he is proud of you. I am proud of you, so ask if he will switch it to Saturday and I will be there with bells on."
"Just bells?" Logan joked.
"Maybe after dinner," Rory blushed as they walked in silence together. "What are we doing?" Rory finally asked as they made their way through Central Park.
"We're doing something fun, that I am certain you haven't done on a date before."
"What makes you so certain you could just conjure something up that I have never done before. I am a worldly woman," Rory laughed, "I have been wined and dined."
"I don't doubt that," Logan nodded to their destination.
Rory smiled and her eyes sparkled a little bit as she saw what he was looking at, "well Logan Huntzberger, and here I thought that you were the kind of man who would buy the most expensive wine on the menu to impress a girl."
"I'm hoping," Logan pulled her in for a kiss, "that $6.50 and my favourite taco cart might do the trick tonight."
"This is perfect," Rory told him as they walked towards the carousel, there wasn't too big a crowd but Rory took advantage of the few minutes to hug Logan tightly against her body.
"Not too lame?"
"Nope."
"You're not going to call Paris or Abigail and tell them what a dork I am?" Logan laughed as he paid their fees and the two walked to a pair of horses.
"No, Abigail and I still haven't spoken because she is in Paris or somewhere fabulous right now, and Paris is visiting her in-laws, so also too busy to hear about my boy problems."
"Shit, one day and you've already got boy problems?"
"My problem," Rory laughed as the carousel began to move, she leaned over and kissed Logan, "is that this guy I'm dating is too good looking, too smart, and way too good in bed."
"Those are big problems," Logan played along, "better dump him."
"I should, shouldn't I?" Rory smiled, "but not till after I get the tacos."
