Here another one of my unusual ideas on 'Murdoch Mysteries.' Despite of not including a storyline, the story bellow, take a step a bit far from the show, since i decided to write a supporting character, a bit OOC from how he is picturing in the show.

As for the location, lets just place it after my previous story (Question without Answer).

Hope you enjoy the story and don“t mind the OOC.

Good reading.

DscWin and Ruth Green, thanks for the help.

TO MURDER OR NOT TO MURDER.

Dr. Andrew Dixon was in love with a doctor from the same hospital he worked at. The lady Doctor, Julia Ogden, was a bit older than himself but her beauty, stubbornness and determination just made him fall more deeply in love with her. Yes, when he first met her, she was bossy and it made his work miserable for the few short weeks before even her bossy attitude just added to her beauty. He admired how professional she was before, during and after her shifts at the hospital. He loved how passionate she was, how helpful she was towards other attendees. Each time he looked at her his heart would flutter and when she would come close he worried as his face would flush. Her voice, according to him, was like a hundred angels singing.

He tried many times to woo Julia but never felt the courage. He however felt his chances dimmed when he watched as Doctor Ogden come in with a man, Andrew recognized as Detective William Murdoch.

If Julia was married to any other man, Andrew wouldn't feel so threatened, but William Murdoch was a very popular Detective and it made Andrew feel really self-conscience about himself. He however wondered why Julia would want to be married to, in Andrew's opinion, the grumpiest man In Canada, who didn't seem to treat Julia like the Goddess she was. He often daydreamed on Julia leaving the Detective and coming to Andrew saying she was a fool to have not married him instead.

"Dr. Dixon," Julia's voice gently carefully pulled him out of his daydream and there he was staring into her eyes. She was carrying several folders and sat down beside him. "How was surgery with Mr. Dewey?"

"Oh Julia," the name felt like honey as it moved past Andrew's lips. "The surgery was a success. The cancer had been successfully removed and Mr. Dewey will be able to receive the proper treatment now."

"Well, you should go and celebrate," Julia said with a smile making the butterflies in Andrew's stomach flutter around.

"Would...would you like to join me?" Andrew asked hoping she would accept.

"Maybe another time." Julia answered politely not seeing Andrew's face of rejection. "It's my husband's birthday tomorrow and I need to make sure all my affairs are in order. But I'm very proud of you."

"Thank you for that Dr. Ogden," Andrew said forcing a smile. "Please give my regards to him." With a polite nod he left the room.

One day Dr. Andrew Dixon saw his opportunity to maybe win Julia's heart, when Det. Murdoch had come in having taken ill and rushed into the hospital needing surgery which he was given the lead on it.

As he walked into the room which housed William, Andrew felt his opportunity to end him so he could win the heart of Julia as the comforting friend and soon win her heart so she would be his wife. However, when he tried to think of how to do it, he saw the newspapers with the headlines reading, "Well known Detective in Hospital." He knew he couldn't do anything while he was in the room but as he was reading his reports he figured the best way was to do it over his surgery.

With the day of the surgery looming Andrew had to calm himself so he wouldn't look like he was planning on anything malicious. On the day and on his way to surgery he could see Julia coming up to him. "Doctor Ogden?"

"Please help my husband, Dr. Dixon. Please." Her eyes were filling with tears and looked understandably worried for the well-being of her husband.

"I will do my best, Julia," Andrew said giving her a reassuring smile thinking that if he could look like he was doing his best she wouldn't think he would do anything to take her husband away.

In the emergency room, William Murdoch was already sedated and unconscious when Andrew entered in the room ready to perform. The nurses that were in there were ready to hand him the necessary sterilized tools. He looked down at the relaxed face of William Murdoch and how he looked so peaceful. Andrew figured that nobody would think he was aiming to end the detective's life, but he had to perform with eyes on him.

The first incision went well, starting the surgery Andrew spotted a small lump that was making William Murdoch's heart beat irregularly.

'It would be so easy.' Andrew thought his hands gripping the sterile instrument to carefully remove the lump easily. 'I could easily make a slight mistake and slice open his heart to cause him to bleed out. Then Julia would be mine.' He glanced up at the small crowd that sat around and caught the attention of Julia who was gripping a white handkerchief and with teary eyes. 'Don't worry Julia. Your husband will feel no pain.'

But as he looked up at her when he had gone to act on his plan. Seeing Julia's pleading look it made him freeze. 'Do it. You're so close. Nobody will think you did this on purpose.' His mind was spinning his hands were starting to shake with nerves.

"Doctor," a young nurse caught his eye and gave him a worried look. "Are you all right?"

"Yes, let's get this done." Andrew said before starting the surgery. His face began to sweat as he worked with normal movements, but his heart thumped in his ears as he thought 'one small mistake will only be so easy. Julia would be mine a few days after the unfortunate death of her oaf of a husband.'

Andrew's mind began to daydream of Julia's barking orders and coming to him when she felt lonely. But before he knew it the surgery was over and William was recovering nicely in his recovery room. Andrew looked over and saw the discarded tumor with a small portion of valve from the heart as it had been synched and would have instantly killed the Detective if Andrew was clearly trying to end him. But he performed the surgery without really knowing it.

As he was walking out of the emergency room Julia came running up wanting to know how her husband was.

"He's in recovery right now, Doctor Ogden," Andrew said smelling her soft floral perfume she wore every once in a while. "The surgery was a success and he should recover nicely."

"Oh Andrew!" Julia exclaimed wrapping her arms around Andrew's neck. But the hug wasn't her falling in love with him as his daydreams were. It was out of relief for the health of her husband.

"I did have to remove a small valve so he might feel a slight bit of discomfort for a few days, but he should be just fine. Just will need him to not over do any heroics at his job."

"Oh, Thank you so much, Doctor Dixon. Thank you! Thank you so much." Julia said tears streaming down her angelic cheeks.

"You are welcome Julia." He said smiling into her hair even though it was sad.

Andrew Dixon woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible nightmare of him being in William Murdoch's position and saw himself trying to kill him. He shook and figured he was guilty for even thinking he would do that to the woman he loved.

Since that nightmare began he felt that stab of guilt each time he saw William and Julia sitting in his recovery room and could see the love in their eyes as she would feed him, check his bandages and simply calming him down if he start to feel pain or discomfort. She rarely left his bedside and he knew that his attempt to murder William wouldn't end with Julia searching for comfort but for her to be all work with no outlooks on romance.

On the morning that Detective Murdoch was supposed to be discharged, Doctor Dixon found himself alone in the lounge allowing the guilt to cause his stomach to sour. "How could I do that?" he mumbled to himself his hand covering his eyes with disgust. "She loved him more then you. How could you try and murder her husband?"

"Are you all right, Dr. Dixon?" A nurse from the surgery had appeared sitting next to him in the lounge.

Andrew's face paled fearing she had heard him confess what he was planning. "Nurse Johns..." he said his mouth getting dry. "I'm fine. Just found out the woman I loved doesn't love me and would never love me. I had fallen in love with her and I lost her before I even met her."

"Are you talking about Dr. Ogden?" She asked and Andrew nodded. "Well, I'm glad you failed your attempt in killing her husband." She said making Andrew look at her.

"What?" He asked, feigning surprise.

"I overheard you saying of what you were planning. If Detective William would have died on the table, I wouldn't have thought of you as a suspect but why would you want to destroy your career? To win over Dr. Ogden's heart? I am appalled. I would have the right to tell Dr. Ogden and her husband what you had planned."

"No, please." Andrew said quickly looking at the seriousness in her eyes.

"You know, Dr. Dixon. Cancer is very tricky to treat. If he would have died from the Cancer then maybe Dr. Ogden would have sought your comfort in her time of loss. But thinking she would run to you after killing her husband is just appalling." With a dirty sideways look, Nurse Johns stood up and left without any words.

Back in the room, Julia was helping William in getting ready to leave when Andrew walked in and overheard some experimental treatment James Pendrick had told them. They turned and looked as Andrew walked in to see how William was doing and asked them what they thought about the treatment option.

"I'm feeling fine, Dr. Dixon." William said wincing slightly as he worked on putting on his jacket over his shoulder. "Just a little chest pain but nothing a little medicine and bedrest couldn't fix."

"How do you feel about this experimental treatment I heard you two talk earlier."

"He's very excited about it." Julia answered with a smile glad to see her husband was going home with her. That's when she noticed how distracted Andrew looked. "Dr. Dixon is everything all right?"

"I..." Andrew started just like when he talked with the Nurse in the lounge.

"Dr. Dixon, is there something wrong about my surgery?" William asked sitting down on the bed as the pain was uncomfortable while standing.

"No, but I need to confess to something." Julia slowly sat down in a nearby chair and grabbed her husband's hand.

"I wasn't wanting the surgery to go well for you." Andrew saw Julia's face pale when he spoke. "I wanted to...botch your surgery so that you would bleed out and die on the table. Make it look like an accident."

Both William and Julia looked shocked. "What?" Julia's voice was harsh as she stood up but William gently grabbed her hand and set her back down.

"Why?" William asked his voice stern but professional.

"Because I love your wife." Andrew answered. "I truly love her and I thought the only way for you to be mine is if I took your husband as he's the only obstacle."

"Dr. Dixon," William spoke his voice cool and on the verge of exploding. "I'm not talking to you as a patient or as Dr. Ogden's husband. But I am speaking as a Detective with the Toronto Police: do you think the death of a respectable detective wouldn't launch an investigation? If you were found at fault for purposefully you would have lost your license to practice medicine and then hanged for murder. But I know you didn't but were wanting to, just so you could win the heart of a woman you had lost?"

Julia was in a silent fury that made Andrew Dixon scared for his safety and knew he was in for a verbal lashing soon.

"Julia I'm sorry."

"That's Mrs. Murdoch to you, Dr. Dixon." Julia hissed which was a better then being yelled at. "You beyond disgust me. What on Earth did you think would happen if you killed my husband? That I would run to your arms?" Andrew lowered his head was his answer.

"Julia, let's go home." William said calmly standing up from the bed and gently taking her arm which she wasn't turning down.

"I love my husband, Dr. Dixon. I wouldn't leave him for nothing or for anyone, especially you. You're no longer my trusted colleague anymore."

"I'm I going to be arrested?" Andrew asked looking at the Detective.

"No, Dr. Dixon." William said. "Though if anyone in the Toronto Police were here and listened to your confession, though it was to clear your conscious you won't be arrested with attempted murder. But out of respect of my wife's wishes I would order you to stay away from either of us...especially from her. Failure to comply would result in your arrest."

"I would also report to the Dean of Medicine what you had done and will bring this case to the board," Julia said with no emotion. "Have a good day."

She wrapped her arm around her husband's, and they walked out slowly, as William was still recovering, but they both were happy to be together.

But as he watched the couple leave, Dr. Dixon's love for Julia never subsided and began to think, 'I'll just wait for the cancer to take its course.' That was of course the only option he had to keep hoping for.
