My patience is running a little thin after all that happened today. I just wanted to get back to the temple and do literally anything else to get my mind off of it. I can't believe a teacher would behave like that, especially after a war. How did someone like that even get into a teaching position. There could be several kids in that school with trauma and they don't need an aggressive adult there to aggravate them.

While I was fuming over today this Earth drake came out of nowhere and gets up in Spyros face.

"Where do you think you're going? Freak!"

This dude had the typical Earth Drake build, he was bulky, his tail looked like a wrecking ball and his horns were curled like a ram's.

I push my way in between him and Spyro, "WE, were heading home, Goat head."

Cynder and Spyro give me this strange look then almost fall to the ground laughing.

"What!?, his horns make him look like a goat!"

"You little shit, I'm going to pound you into the ground just to give this freak a preview of what's going to happen to him."

I give him a glare. "I'd like to see you try." I sound as cold as an ice dragon. I'm out of patience at this point and I really don't care for this dude being in my face.

He lunges at me with a clenched paw covered in stone. I just raise a single wing and add some of my wind element to make it a singular large wing and I smack him with it. It was over just that fast. He hit a wall and was out cold in the walkway.

"So", I turn around with a little too much cheer in my voice and ask, "so, with that out of the way, shall we be going?"

"Please don't do that" Spyro looked a little angry, but Cynder smacked him.

"Don't even go there Spyro, you would do the same thing when people threatened to get physical with me and I didn't like it either. So just put up with and accept the help, like you made me do"

"I'm sorry Cynder, I just don't think it's worth it to protect me, you however, did nothing wrong, you deserved a fair chance."

"And you don't!?"

"It's not the same Cynder."

"How is it not the same!"

"Uh guys, I'm enjoying the lovers spat as much as the next guy, but you're drawing a crowd."

They both stop and look around. Looking a little embarrassed and still quite upset, they take off into the sky to get to the temple faster.

I just got ditched didn't I?

So I take off to the temple as well. I still need to meet up with the guardians like Cyril requested so I do need to hurry. It was a relatively short flight, but it was still nice, I think I'll always enjoy flying. I come in to land and waiting at the entrance, were Spyro and Cynder, apparently still arguing about who deserves help the most.

"Spyro you literally pulled the planet back together while I killed hundreds, tell me how I'm more deserving than you are!"

"Cynder your life was essentially taken from you when you where young, you had no choice in the matter."

"Neither did you! You had to fight a war entirely on your own, and as a kid too!"

"You were there to help me! You also had to fight that war when you got your life back. I took your chance to escape from you. So you deserve to be helped more than I do!"

"What are you talking about Spyro, I made the choice to try and stop Gaul on my own to try and save you from the war. It was my choice." Cynder's eyes are starting to get all watery and Spyro can't refute it, so he just hugs her and tries his best to comfort her. "I know, but if I had just been stronger you wouldn't have been chained to me for the last stretch of the war"

"And if I hadn't of been, you wouldn't have been able to convince yourself to keep going"

"I know, but I still wish that you didn't have to deal with this abuse."

"I feel the same for you Spyro."

Still holding onto each other, they share a kiss.

"Eh hemmm" I awkwardly clear my throat.

I know it's a touching moment but we're still outside and I'm pretty sure they do want to break out in a full on make out session on the entrance to the temple. They still give me a little glare though.

"What!? Your the ones standing in the entrance making out. Anyway I was supposed to meet with the guardians and I don't know where to go, do ya mind?."

They both just roll their eyes and go inside.

"Hay Spyro?"

"Yay" he still sounds a little upset

"Can I borrow you later, after the guardians get done with me?"

"Sure, I don't mind. Anyway, here we are."

"So do I just go in."

"If you were supposed to meet them, then ya."

"Ok, thanks for leading me here you guys"

"No problem" they both respond in a somber tone.

They have had to go through so much, I really hope I can make a difference.

I head into the guardian chamber, I think that's what it's called? Well anyway, all four of them are waiting for me in the middle of the room….. Wait….. Four!? Who's this dude? He looks kinda like Ignitus, except his horns are different. He couldn't be, I didn't think any of them had a family, especially Ignitus since Spyro found him living on his own. Actually, no, that would make sense. He would want to keep his family safe so if he was a target there would be no way he would go anywhere near them.

"You're back awfully late, you kept us waiting." Cyril looks a little peeved.

"Now hold on Cyril, you said he was new to the city. He couldn't have very easily gotten side tracked looking around." Terridor sounds almost like my father, authoritative and caring.

"I must concur Cyril, Warfang has an assortment of amazing sights to behold." Ok I have to admit. Volunteer isn't as bad as I thought he would be, maybe he's been working on that.

"Either way, he's here now." This is the fire drake talking and he definitely sounds young compared to the other three.

"All that aside, allow me to introduce you. Everyone, this is Sam. Sam, as you know, I'm Cyril. The big green one over there is Terridor."

"Now wait a minute, are you calling me fat!"

"The grabber jaw over there is Volteer"

"Hay, I've been working on it!"

"And the red one over there is the newest guardian, Flare. Hes Ignitus' son."

"It's a pleasure to meet you"

"How come he got a nice introduction, we're guardians too"

"Oh clam it Volteer, I would've done the same thing to him if I had dirt on him."

Well, it's nice to see that the guardians aren't afraid to be who they are. It's nice to see them having fun. It means Spyro and Cynder's home life isn't something I have to worry about.

"Anyway" Terridor cuts in. "Sam it's nice to have you joining us. And while we have a moment to ourselves, how is Ignitus doing."

"Didn't he tell you in his letter?"

"He did, but he was well known for keeping his feelings to himself to try and keep us from worrying"

"He was absolutely terrible at it, and I would know. I grew up with the old drake."

"Well if it makes you all feel better, he's doing just fine. He is a little worried about Spyro, but that's about it.

"That's good to hear."

"Now, down to business." Cyril cut in

"Yes yes, let us commence."

"Very well, Sam, as you know, there are some rules if you are to live here. You will be held to the same standards as the guardians. Meaning you are responsible for maintaining the public order without unnecessary violence."

"I kinda already broke that rule, this dude was trying to attack Spyro and Cynder and I kinda knocked him out." I look away in shame. Not even a whole day and I've already ruined my chances.

"Actually, that's ok, we had implemented a rule that if anyone were to attack Spyro or Cynder, they were to be immediately punished. So I'll just let that be his punishment, so you're in the clear this time, don't let it happen again, unless you have to. So, back to the rules. You are expected to be at daily meals unless given permission by one of the guardians or extenuating circumstances prevent you from otherwise attending."

"Terridor just likes his family meal times." Terridor just glares at flare.

"That's ok, I liked family meal times too. It would be nice to have that again."

"Well anyway", he tries to pull himself back together. "You will also be given a weekly allowance, but you will be expected to run errands for the guardians if we need it. Don't worry though, we usually like to do things ourselves so really we just need your help when we get too busy." Then Cyril goes to add.

"And one more thing I would like to add, try and get into the advanced class, Spyro and Cynder need a friend." That was actually kinda touching for Cyril's personality. These are some cool dragons to know I guess.

"I've actually already taken care of that, I start tomorrow."

"Impressive, I'm glad to hear it."

Flare opens the door and gestures for me to exit, "allow me to show you to your new room."

I nod and follow him out into the hall. He leads me down a few halls until we come to a corridor with some doors scattered around it.

"These are normally the student dorms for guardians in training, but until it's time for us to train the next generation you are more than welcome to stay here."

He leads me to the door at the end of the hall on the left side.

"This one will be yours, if you need help with anything, Spyro's room is right across from yours and Cynder's Is next to his."

"Thank you, tell the rest of the guardians I said thank you. I forgot to while I was there."

"Don't thank us yet, you're going to have to furnish the room if you don't like what's there."

"That's ok."

"Well, get going, don't want to keep Mr. Family man waiting."

I chuckle a bit and flame just smiles at me.

"I'm glad, you seem to have gotten out ok. Most kids that are made to survive on their own don't socialize very well."

"I grew up with my parents. I just….." I just dug myself into a hole. What do I...

"It's ok, you don't have to relive that if you don't want to."

I just got saved. I need to be so much more careful.

Flare turns away and walks back to the guardians' chamber, leaving me to explore my own room. I open my door to see my new pad…. This place is definitely going to need some work. I step inside and close the door. It was a two room layout, most likely the front room is meant for entertaining a guest or two and the back one is for sleeping in. The front room has a few empty shelves here and there, a window, a couple of plain cushions scattered about for a seating arrangement. And some kind of fireplace looking thing on the right side of the room. My mother rubbed off on me a little too much, I can't stand this place looking like this. I need to do some redecorating when I get the chance. I don't think I can keep waking up to baby shitgreen walls. I bet an earth dragon was meant to live here, that's probably why it's so spacious now that I think about it. Well let's see how bad the bedroom is. Ok, it has a balcony at least, but it literally has nothing to it, there is only a single cushion in here and it looks like a glorified dog bed. I'm going to need to put some curtains up at the very least. This is definitely a fixer upper, but it's still home.

As I'm sitting on the balcony enjoying the view of the city, a knock comes from my door.

"Come in!"

I went back inside to see who it was and standing there, with an overloaded looking bag, was Spyro.

"I see you got the room across from me."

"Ya, but it's going to need some work. It'll take some time too, considering I don't know how much everything costs."

"Well you're in luck! Because the guardians are giving you some gems to renovate your room with. Now they said that this is going to be nowhere near the amount you'll get as an allowance, but they don't want to start you off with nothing."

He says this as he plops down the massive bag on the ground. He opens it and reveals a large assortment of gems.

"How much is that!"

"They said it was about 1,000 gems worth there. They said that it should be enough to get most of what you might want to change. They also said don't bother trying to paint anything, just ask the moles in the temple and they will do it for you. And they also sent me to get you for dinner, it's ready."

I'm utterly speechless, I'm literally being handed a new start to my life. I know I've said it before, but I can't waste this chance. I Will NOT let my life be anything but happy from here on out.

"Well, are you ready Sam? Don't want to keep Terridor waiting."

We share a chuckle and head off to the kitchen. This life is fantastic, I'll always miss my old one but at least it won't hurt as bad now.

We're all enjoying our meals, everyone is having a good time discussing their day. The guardians found it surprising that I was able to defeat my instructor on the first, they did scold me a bit for going overboard, but they agree, she deserved no mercy for throwing a potentially lethal attack in a regulation match against her student. We were in the middle of talking about some nobles that were whining about something when a mole came in and whispered in Terridor's ear.

"Excuse me for a moment, I must attend to something."

Outside was the representative of the school, he was here to inform Terridor that they planned on putting a student on trial tomorrow and that the guardians, being the ones to run the trials, where needed on the school grounds tomorrow.

"Now we don't know where the student lives but he is supposed to be coming to school tomorrow so that's where he'll be arrested"

"What's the student's name?"

"He goes by Sam, I doubt you know him. He's a troublemaker through and through from what I've heard."

Terridor is absolutely floored by this. He's been talking to me for the last hour and not once did he think I would be the one to cause trouble. Good thing he's basically a stone faced god, or he would have given me away right then and there, but for some reason he didn't.

"Very well, the Guardians will be there in the morning."

With that, the Rep. Leaves, but before Terridor turns around, one more person shows up to speak their mind.

"Grand elder, what can I help you with this evening?"

"Actually, it's how can I help Sam."
