Timeless fanfic. Series 1, post 1x09. One-shot. Hint of Lucy/Wyatt.
I don't own Timeless or any of the characters.
Meant to be.
As much as Lucy didn't want to think about it, her mind kept wandering to when Wyatt had kissed her, when they had bene with Bonnie and Clyde. She knew that it had been for their benefit, but it had made her acutely aware of her feelings for Wyatt; the only problem was that he was still in love with and greiving for Jessica and she knew that that would always be the case. In spite of her feelings there was nothing that could be done, nothing she could do to change that.
After a mission, Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus were having a drink and when Rufus went to get another round, Wyatt observed, "You're very quiet, Professor. Something you want to share with the class?"
Lucy was not amused by his tone, but sighed and replied, "Yeah, I was just thinking about Bonnie and Clyde." Wyatt made the confusion clear on his face, so she continued, "I just mean the fact that they thought they were the only ones for each other. How can you be so certain about that? Do soulmates really exist?"
She was surprised when Wyatt started to laugh, before he clarified, "Lucy, you believe in fate and destiny. All that stuff- but you don't believe in that when it comes to love. Why is that?" His blue eyes looked into her brown ones. "Lucy, everything that happens in our lives is as a result of our actions. Every single one."
Unable to help herself, Lucy titled her head slightly and asked, "Wyatt, do you believe in soulmates? That some people are meant to be together, no matter what?" She really wanted to ask him about their kiss, to find out if it had meant anything to him, so she did. "Wyatt, when you kissed me with Bonnie and Clyde- why did you do it?"
Wyatt froze, suddenly uncomfortable, because that kiss had meant something to him, it had made him very aware of his feelings for Lucy, but that was something which he didn't want to admit to himself, let alone her. He cleared his throat and looked down at his glass as he replied, gruffly, "I told you. Clyde seemed like he was working it out, so I had to throw him off." He stood up, then added, "And to answer your question: No. I don't believe in soulmates. I don't believe in fate." He paused, then smiled and added, in a far softer tone of voice, "Good night, ma'am."
"Good night, Wyatt."
In another lifetime, another world in which Wyatt was not still grieving for Jessica, Lucy would have followed him and kissed him passionately, but that was not to be. Lucy wished, hoped, that someday, Wyatt would see her that way that she saw him, not realising that he already did, but he was too afraid. If only they had more time.
