JOHNNY POV

Seriously. Just seriously. How much lung can a baby blow out from her nightly wake up calls?

Carmen and I took turns on who takes care of her. Given the hour, I got the odd numbers and Carmen got the even numbers. I rolled over praying to whatever that the number read 0, 2, 4 or 6.

5:35 AM. Shit. I got up and dragged over to the crib at the end of the bed where the red faced two month old was currently sobbing and screaming. "What's up, Laura?" Instantly my hand directed itself to the diaper area. She's clean. Hungry? "The whole point of life is to watch sunsets, not sunrises." I said. Like she would know what the hell I was talking about. "Come on." I got her scooped up into my arms in a matter of minutes and got her out of the room.

Few minutes later sitting in the dimmed but slightly lit living room I was on the couch holding the bottle to her mouth and she sucked away. "Sucker." I teased. My ears picked up movement from just outside the door. Feet shuffling back and forth rapidly, then quickly running away just as I turned on the brighter light into the room. The fuck? I got up, still holding Laura, slowly creeping up to the window. One hand managed to open the curtain just a bit to see absolutely nothing. "Laura," I looked down at her. "You're making me lose my shit."

NOBODY POV

Miguel was on the couch watching his sister while his grandmother went out to get a few things for dinner. His mom was back to working and sensei Johnny was with sensei Daniel doing dojo stuff (or berating one another over how things could be done). His foot pushed the swing seat back and forth gently while playing a video game on his phone. He put his phone down then glance down at the sister in her swing, her brown eyes just staring back at him. He smiled down at her then reached down to gently rub her stomach. "Be right back, Trix."

Miguel got up and to the bathroom. He came back out a few minutes later to resume his video game when he heard sounds outside the door. Assuming it was his grandmother Miguel hurried over to the door to open it. But alas it was not his grandmother. Instead, nobody. "Weird."

Down the corridor of the complex, standing behind the corner of the wall, a blond hair teenage stood there. Too chicken to move. What am I doing here? Robby asked himself. He has his own family. Has had his own family since Miguel came into the picture. He doesn't need me to make the family. He's got the son he always wanted, now he has a daughter.

"Screw him."

Hmm. So, Robby got the message and almost met Laura. Wonder if he ever will someday.
