Officer Ken Wheatley got out of the car. He had finally cornered the most heinous criminal he had ever dealt with. The violent man exited his car as well and turned to face Officer Wheatley with a sneer. It was midnight and Officer Wheatley felt a twinge of fear.
"If you come any closer, you're going to die a very painful death." threatened the murderer.
Officer Wheatley took out his taser and fired. The man didn't react. At first Wheatley considered the possibility that the barbs had not made it through the thick jacket he wore.
"Ooh, you're a tough guy." said Officer Wheatley sarcastically. His instincts were to reach for his gun, but he had to be sure. With a crackle of electricity he pulled the trigger again.
This time the man went rigid and fell to the ground.
Officer Wheatley glad that things could be resolved without any more unnecessary killing walked over to him, got on his knees, and readied a pair of handcuffs.
Just then the man, who had appeared to be unconscious, leaped up and smirked at Officer Wheatley, who terrified had fallen prone.
"Should have gone for the gun!" said the man. Officer Wheatley had never used the taser before, and aside from basic training, his only other knowledge of tasers was from movies he had seen as a child, somehow he'd let that cloud his judgement.
The man took out a knife and stabbed Officer Wheatley with a blinding pain before letting out a sadistic laugh.
Officer Wheatley then fell to the ground, his dying thoughts drifting aimlessly to his wife.
The next morning, Maisie, a 10-year-old girl who Officer Wheatley had been aqcainted with, was watching the news with her parents. Officer Wheatley's body was shown filling the girl with sorrow.
"Officer Wheatley..." she whispered sadly, her eyes welling with tears.
