This is the final installment for this fic and I want to say sincere thanks to all of you for the interest you've shown, in not only this story, but my other stories as well, whether they are original...or not. Much love to all of you.
I do not own Glee or the characters, neither do I own It Had to be You.
Epilogue
Two weeks later, Mercedes picked up a tray of tea and coffee, with hands that weren't quite steady.
"I'm so nervous," she said.
Sam, still wearing a sling, but getting more and more movement back every day, leaned in and kissed her.
"You'll nail this," he said.
"Like she did you," Marley quipped, as she picked up the second tray, filled with the pastry goodies she'd made for the grand opening of the new flower shop, aptly named, MJ's Blooms and Things.
Mercedes had signed the lease and was officially in the space next to the bakery again.
It was all she'd ever wanted.
'Half the town is here for the opening party,' Mercedes thought, looking around nervously. 'And the other half are on their way.'
"She can nail me any time," Sam said, as he snatched a custard puff from Marley's tray and stuffed it in his mouth.
He gave Mercedes one more quick kiss, tasting like vanilla, and she hummed in pleasure.
Just looking up into his warm, green eyes, quelled her nerves.
He was her rock.
And she was his.
He believed in her, trusted her, needed her. And wanted her.
He'd gone to San Francisco for the Diaz review, but he was still on medical leave, so he'd come right back to North Bend.
Sheriff Luke had offered him a job, and he accepted it.
And of course, Mercedes was over the moon, that he'd be staying in town...with her.
Catching her looking at him, Sam gestured for her to set the tray down, then nudged her closer with his good arm.
Lowering his head, he pressed his mouth to her ear and said,
"I'm never going to get tired, of finding you looking at me that way. Like you have to have me right now."
Mercedes giggled, then looked around to make sure Marley wasn't too close.
"I just had you," she whispered. Right before they arrived here, in fact. "And I wasn't looking at you like that. If you must know, I was thinking, I can't believe you're mine."
"Believe it." He pulled back to look into her eyes. "I belong to you, heart and soul, and…"
He pressed up against her, making her laugh, when she felt him hard at her belly, so that the 'and' was crystal clear.
"Hey, you're mine too. Tired of me already?" he asked with a smile in his voice.
"Not quite yet. You?"
His eyes darkened, and he kissed her again.
"Never."
Mercedes felt her heart skipped a beat.
"Never is a long time, Sam," she said.
With his voice low, fierce, and very sure, he said,
"That's what I'm counting on, baby."
So...that's it for this story. My island is going on lockdown from tomorrow, for two weeks, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to work. In that time, I should be able to update my original stories and put something else out there.
As usual, this has been a blast. You guys are awesome!
Stay safe!
