This is set on a random day but Kirito and Asuna are married and its after Yui's story.

But anyway here's the story.

Walks in sheepishly. I'm back , this is the first chapter rewritten so it includes more detail and it should be better quality. The plot is still the same though so enjoy!

Rewritten: 1/2/2021

Suguha Kirigaya was not an impatient person, in fact she took pride in how patient she could be. Yet she was tapping her foot as the lift slowly went higher and higher. The only time she was this impatient was when she was visiting her comatose brother, Kazuto Kirigaya.

Kazuto had been one of the ten thousand VRMMO players that became trapped in Sword Art Online also known as SAO. On that awful day, he logged in and never logged out, he went into a coma and had remained in it for over two years. Many people stuck in SAO had died, yet her brother had survived. She knew her brother was a skilled player, he played games all the time before he was trapped. That was the main reason she still had hope. If anyone could survive this death game it was Kazuto.

The lift doors opened and Sugu walked down the white, clean corridors as she had done for the last 2 years until she came across the room with the sign reading 'Kazuto Kirigaya'. Bracing herself she entered the room. The sight of her older brother laying there hopeless upset her, he was like her rock as they grew up, even after he distanced himself from her he was still the main person she looked up to. Looking at him now though no one would believe this was the person who inspired the recent kendo national quarter-finalist.

She sighed as she looked at his limp form, no change. Every time she came she looked, even for a small sign that he would wake up soon. But every time there was nothing. She walked slowly to his side like she was trying not to disturb him and stared at him. The only problem was he looked peaceful. Too peaceful. Kazuto had always been a restless sleeper but now... The combination of his peaceful expression, his pale skin and weakness was enough for many people to mistake him for dead. Yet he wasn't. The only way they could tell he was alive was the heart monitor he was connect to. That didn't stop her worrying every time she walked in.

Her attention was grabbed by the smallest change in the heart rate, the rate seemed to be going down... Fear gripped her as she held Kazuto's hand watching the monitor closely.

Beep...

Beep...

Beep...

Beeeeep...

The grip on her brother's hand tightened as she looked over to Kazuto looking for any signs of life, anything that could prove the heart monitor wrong. But nothing, she stared at him and burst into sobs. Why here? Why did he have to die? He survived for two and a half years only to fall now. Why now? She pressed the button that calls for a nurse, she held onto his hand only now noticing now thin and frail it seemed. Even though she knew it wouldn't help she kept on holding his hand, as if she could wake him up by simply holding his hand.

Finally, the nurse opened the door and all Suguha could hear was frantic running as doctors and nurses ran to their patients as if their lives depended on it. She had never seen the hospital this busy except for that fateful day.

"What's going on?" She whispered her voice hoarse from crying so much in a small amount of time. Her voice was laced with sorrow for her older brother, her plans of their reunion shattering before her eyes. The hope that they would become close again like they were during their childhood slowly growing colder. The hope that they would go back to the way things were before Kazuto found out the truth.

"All the people who were trapped in Sword Art Online have suddenly died. Looks like Mr Kirigaya is no exception." She said solemnly, as she gazed at the sixteen year old. Sugu's eyes widened in shock but also fear. So many people in a short amount of time, while she knew the Nerve Gear was dangerous she didn't realise it could kill everyone instantly. The nurse looked at her with sympathy, Sugu and her parents had spent a lot of time in the hospital visiting Kazuto. It was rare that one of the family members were not by his side throughout the day. The nurse knew how much Kazuto meant to his family and his sudden death would destroy them.

"I will go call your family." She said lightly touching her shoulder before leaving Sugu to her thoughts.

However, little did they know that something on a bigger scale was occurring inside the game and Kazuto as always was heavily involved.

****In SAO****

Kirito stood on the balcony of his house looking at the scenery. The virtual world, no matter how deadly it was at the moment, was beautiful. The crisp, cool air blew gently as the trees multi-coloured leaves followed the winds current like a person follows a waters current. His dark hair following the winds direction as well as his grey eyes scanned the scenery of floor 22 where he and his wife lived and were currently staying while they were taking a leave of absence from the guild they were both part of.

Life in SAO wasn't so bad. Kirito had realised that a while ago, every day in Aincrad was a day in the real world but that didn't mean the players couldn't enjoy day-to-day life. However, the truth was that this game had took too many lives already and drove people to committing suicide, not able to cope with the situation they had been forced into. People started murdering others just because they can and each day it became more dangerous to leave the safe zones. While Kirito had never attempted any of those things after the death of his first guild, he considered it. But the thought of his family outside of Aincrad and the friends he had made kept him going. He found new reasons to survive this death game.

His main reason was Asuna.

Asuna, was his in-game wife and had essentially become his whole world. On several occasions throughout these two years, he had promised her he would return her to the real world, that they could be together without the constant threat of death hanging over them. Even though with the death of this world they would be separated he swore that they would find each other again and then he could treat her to everything she deserved. He would work hard and then eventually he would be able to bring Yui into the real world, his family could be together again.

"Hey, what you thinking about?" A voice cut off his train of thought as he jumped and spun around to see his wife, she was covering her mouth with her hand trying to hide her laughter yet the way her shoulders shook gave her away. "Sorry." She said still laughing, but her face then turned serious and concerned. "Honestly though, what you thinking about?" She said worried for him. She knew the expectations that he faced and knew that he put so much pressure on himself to beat the game so their family can be reunited.

Ever since the Cardinal tried to delete Yui Kirito had spent a lot of time thinking about what he would do to get her back. She was pretty sure he was losing sleep over it as she found him standing outside thinking when she woke up. "Just about the real world." He said flatly, Asuna wrapped her arms around his waist and lay her head on his shoulder. "Hey, I said we would meet each other again. So stop worrying, I love you no matter what happens." She said hoping to ease his worries.

He turned and smiled, suddenly engulfing her in a tight embrace. Asuna sighed happily and returned the embrace, it was her way of saying that he could relax, he could stop trying to meet everyone's expectations and just relax. They could be themselves here not Asuna 'The Flash' or Kirito 'The Black Swordsman'.

Kirito however was not feeling well at all. His vision suddenly started to blur and his head was pounding as if someone was hitting him with a sledge hammer repeatedly. He sneakily checked his HP to make sure nothing was affecting it, even though they were in a safe zone he couldn't be too careful. His HP was staying the same though so that reason was out. Before he could wonder further or even voice his concerns to Asuna darkness started to engulf him, and he could not fight it.

Asuna felt Kirito go limp against her and couldn't help but feel relieved that he was finally relaxing. She smiled "Aww. Did you fall asleep again Kirito?" She said softly trying to shake him awake. "Kirito, you can't sleep here." She repeated becoming more worried. "Kirito!" She shouted pulling his limp body still in the embrace closer to her and she rocked him back and forth. What could be happening? What had happened? Kirito wasn't a deep sleeper so he should've woken up. Much like her husband she didn't have much more time to wonder further as not long after she felt the same symptoms of Kirito and darkness engulfed her as well.
