Episode 3: The Pokemon Coordinator, Diana
In the Viridian Forest, Hana along with Pikachu, the Ralts Twins, and Oddish are sitting at a clearing close to a lake. Hana has a leaf close to her mouth and uses it to play music on it as she sits next to the tree. On her lap is an egg: it's a snow color with light blue flowers and a light green flower on it. The song makes her Pokemon and the wild Pokemon feel at ease and relaxed. The song she's playing is called Oracion, Gary's mother taught the song to her and Gary when they're small. She says that the song means Prayer, and it has the power to sooth the fiercest rage. She continues to play the song as all the Pokemon around her smile and feel relaxed. Once she finishes, the wild Pokemon clap and make cheering sounds for the performance.
Hana smiles, "Thank you everyone."
"Pika pika pi," (That was a lovely song.) Pikachu says.
"Thank you. Gary's mom taught it to me and Gary when we were kids," Hana says.
Sister Ralts touches the egg, "Ralts ralt ralts." (I think the egg likes it too.)
"Ralts Ralts," (Yeah. When will it hatch?) Brother Ralts asks.
"Not for some time now. We just need to take good care of it and wait until it hatches. Still, I wonder what kind of Pokemon it will be," Hana says.
"Oddish Oddish Odd Oddish," (I vote for it to be a grass type Pokemon.) Oddish says.
"Ralts Ralts Ralts," (I say it's a psychic type.) Brother Ralts says.
"Pikachu Pika Pi. Pikachu," (I think it will be a healthy Pokemon. That's what truly matters.) Pikachu says.
"You're right," Hana says.
Hana puts the leaf on the ground and grabs her backpack. She then takes out the guide book. She opens the book to see where their best destination is.
"Hmm, according to the book, once we exit the forest, there will be two paths. One of them goes to Pewter City. The other goes to Terracotta Town. I wonder which one we should go to," Hana thinks.
"Pika pi," (That's a toughy) Pikachu says.
Suddenly, they hear a loud scream of fright, causing Hana and her Pokemon to become surprised.
"Oddish?!" (What was that?!" Oddish asks.
"I think someone's in trouble," Hana says.
Hana then gently puts the egg in her bag along with the guidebook. She zips it up as she stands and puts her backpack on her back.
"Come on guys," Hana says.
The Pokemon agree and they all hurry down the area to find the one who needs help. The girl and four Pokemon hurry as fast as they can. They come to a stop to see a group of bee-like Pokemon.
In the middle of the swarm is a young girl. The girl has brown hair with short pigtails with small red ribbons, tan skin, and brown eyes. She is wearing a light red blouse with a dark red skirt, black boots, and holds a large purse. Next to her is a small, fire mouse Pokemon. It has bluish fur on top with four red circles on it, with cream color fur on the underside, a long thin snout, short arms and slightly longer legs with a single nail on each foot.
"It's another trainer and Pokemon. And it looks like they're attacked by Beedrills," Hana says.
Then turns to the Pokemon, "Careful, they're very territorial and poisonous."
Hana and the Pokemon hurry over to the girl's aid. Still trapped, the girl and her Pokemon are unable to do anything with them flying around.
The girl screams, "These Beedrills are being so mean. We can't get away from them."
"Fenn Fenn," The pokemon panics.
Suddenly, the girl hears someone shouts, "Little brother! Little sister! Use Protect!"
The girl and the Pokemon become confused and look over to see Hana with the two Shiny Ralts. Both of the Ralts use their psychic powers to create a protective field around the girl and Pokemon.
Then Hana calls out, "Oddish, use Sleep Powder!"
"Oddish!" (On it!) Oddish says.
Oddish jumps up and shakes its body as blue sparkling powder begins to surround the area. Hana, the two Ralts, and Pikachu cover their moves as the Sleep Powder surrounds the area. The Beedrills are touched by the Sleep Powder and soon land on the ground as they fall asleep. The girl and Pokemon look to see the bees are sleeping and the force field disappeared.
Hana holds out her Pokeballs and says, "Good job guys, return for now. We need to get out of here."
The Pokemon are put back in their Pokeballs and Pikachu jumps on Hana's shoulder.
Hana runs to the girl and says, "Let's get out of here before the Beedrills wake up."
"Right," The girl says.
The girl picks up her fox Pokemon, and both Hana and the girls hurry away from the Beedrills. Luckily, they are farther through the forest before the Beedrills have a chance to wake up. Sometime later, Hana and the new girl along with the two Pokemon are far from the Beedrills and it's a good thing they are.
The girl says, "Thank you for saving us."
"It's no trouble, but you do need to be careful. Beedrills are very territorial so they'll attack anyone who gets too close to where their nests are. You must have come near the Beedrills home by mistake," Hana says.
"I see. I didn't realize it was bothering them," The girl says.
"It's okay. I suspect you never meant any harm. The Beedrills were trying to scare you off," Hana says.
"You know a lot about Bedrills, huh," The girl replies.
"Yeah. I had my history with some Bedrills chasing me and my siblings when they get mad at us. By the way, my name is Hana. And this is my Partner Pikachu," Hana says.
"Pika," (Hello.) Pikachu says.
"Hello. I'm Diana and this is my Pokemon, Cyndaquil. I call her Ember," The girl, Diana says.
"Cynda," (Hi) Ember says.
"It's nice to meet you," Hana says.
Then turns to Ember, "You too."
"Cynda cyndaquil," (It's nice to meet you)" Ember says.
"Yeah. You look very pretty and I can tell you're healthy," Hana says.
Ember blushes a little, "Cynda Cynda Cynaquil." (Oh my… thank you.)
"No need to get embarrassed. I'm sure your trainer has given you perfect health," Hana says.
"Cynda Cyndaquil Cynda Cynda," (She does. Diana is very nice to me and she's a nice Coordinator.) Ember says.
"A Coordinator? What's that?" Hana asks.
"A Coordinator is… huh?" Diana says, and soon becomes confused.
"What is it?" Hana asks.
"It-it's just… a moment ago… you were talking to Ember like you can understand her," Diana replies, shocked.
Hana blushes a little, "That's because I can. I'm able to understand Pokemon. I'm not sure why to be honest, but I've been able to for my whole life."
"Amazing, and you can tell Ember is very healthy too," Diana says.
"Well, back home, I helped take care of injured Pokemon and give them medicine that I can find in the forest," Hana says.
"Wow," Diana says.
Then asks, "So is that how you know about Pokemon?"
"Well, to be honest. I've actually been raised by Pokemon in the forest close to Pallet Town. I started interacting with humans when I was around five to six, and did my best to learn about being a human, but I love living with the Pokemon more," Hana says.
"That explains a lot. You must know a lot about Pokemon," Diana says.
"There's still more I do have to learn, but I learn enough to know about them. I even learn how to fight against one. More like I fight against actual Pokemon. But enough about me, what about you. Ember says you're a Pokemon Coordinator," Hana says.
"That's right. I am. I lived in Ecruteak City in the Johto Region until I started my journey to be a Pokemon Coordinators," Diana says.
"So what is it?" Hana asks.
"Pokemon Coordinators present their Pokemon's to look the way they can. We compete in an event called Pokemon Contest. It's slightly different than a normal Pokemon Battle," Diana says.
"How so?" Hana asks.
"There are two rounds, the Appeals round and the Battle round. The Appeals round is when you present your Pokemon moves and the Pokemon themselves. After that, the ones who earned the most points from the judges will go to the second round, the Battle round. The key is not only presents the Pokemon's moves to look their best, but to also battle against the opponent. Those who win all the rounds, earn a Contest Ribbon. I competed in the Johto Contest and Grand Festival before coming to Kanto. The Grand Festival is a big Pokemon Contest and you need five ribbons in order to compete. Those who do well at the appeals round and do well in the battle round, get the Ribbon Cup and are named Top Coordinator," Diana says.
"Wow! That sounds amazing. How did you do in Johto?" Hana asks.
"I did great at the appeals round and the battle round. However, I was only able to reach the Top four," Diana says.
"That sounds impressive if you ask me. So are you here for a Pokemon Contest in Kanto?" Hana asks.
"I sure am. I was in Terracotta Town and already earned my first ribbon," Diana says.
"Really? Can we see?" Hana asks.
"Pika pika," (I want to see, too.) Pikachu replies.
"Sure," Diana says.
She brings out a small case and opens it to reveal a small ribbon. The ribbon has a pink and white striped ribbon with a metal pin of an orange sun with yellow sun rays in the middle.
"Wow! It looks pretty," Hana says. She takes the ribbon and puts it on my hair.
She asks, "What do you think?"
"You look pretty," Diana says, giggle.
Hana takes the ribbon off and puts it back in the case. Then Diana closes the case and puts it back in her bag for safe keeping.
"So Hana, what are you planning on you doing on your journey?" Diana says.
"The truth is. I'm not sure," Hana says.
"Really?" Diana says, confused.
Then Hana explains, "Well, one of my main reasons for going on this journey is to figure out the mystery of how I can talk to Pokemon. I also like to help Pokemon whenever I can. I used to study with Professor Oak and he told me that even though we lived in this world. There are many people and Pokemon who have come across many problems, especially the Pokemon. I also decided to work on helping Pokemon when I can. When I lived in Pallet Town, I always helped Pokemon whenever I could. Those who were badly injured or those who were abandoned by their trainers. I used herbs, berries, and anything I can find in the forest to help with the Pokemon's needs. Since I can talk to Pokemon, I can talk to them about their problems and how I can help them. Professor Oak says that I'm very good with collecting medicine and know what to use to help them. And still, I'm not sure what I want to do."
"Hmm. Sounds to me that you really want to help Pokemon, but not sure how to do so," Diana says.
"I suppose. I also want to help make my Pokemon strong, including my brother and sister become strong and healthy. And one of the ways to do that is to battle," Hana says.
"Hmm… I think I know what I should do. Have you heard about the indigo Plateau?" Diana replies.
"The Indigo Plateau?" Hana says, confused.
"It's where the Pokemon League is and where the Grand Festival is. In order to get to the League, you will need to collect Eight Gym Badges from Gym Leaders in the Kanto Region," Diana says.
"Hmm. I remember my friend Gary telling me he's going to collect badges to compete in the Pokemon League. Gary did ask me if I want to compete, but I told me I wasn't sure. He and the Professor said that I should follow my path. Gary wants to become a Pokemon researcher like his grandfather and wants to become a good Pokemon trainer. I'm not sure about me. Of course, I actually like to compete in the Indigo Plateau," Hana says.
"Well, it's entirely up to you on what you want to do. If you want to go for the Indigo Plateau, then go for it." Diana says.
"I guess so. You know. I have never seen a Cyndaquil before," Hana says, bringing out her Pokedex.
Dexter says, "Cyndaquil, the Fire Mouse Pokemon. It flares flames from its back to protect itself. The fire burns vigorously if the Pokémon is angry. When it is tired, it sputters with incomplete combustion."
"Sounds like Ember is hot stuff," Hana says.
"Yeah. And your Pikachu is so cute," Diana says, bringing out her Pokedex.
"Pika Pika," (Thank you.) Pikachu says, blushing.
The Pokedex says, "Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon, and the evolved form of Pichu. It can generate electric attacks from the electric pouches located in both of its cheeks."
"So Hana, do you have any more Pokemon?" Diana asks.
"Yeah. I have my brother and sister who are Ralts, and Oddish," Hana says.
Then asks, "What about you?"
"Well. Ember is my starter Pokemon. I also brought my Butterfree and my Corsola," Diana says.
"Cool," Hana replies.
"By the way Diana, do you want to tag along with me?" Hana asks.
"Huh? You want me to come along," Diana says, confused.
"Yeah. We'll have lots of fun and adventures, and our Pokemon will have fun too," Hana says.
Diana begins to think about whether or not she wants to accompany Hana or not.
Suddenly, a woman's voice says, "Well, well, well, if it isn't the Poke-girl translator."
"We meet again, little girl," A male's voice says.
"What in the?" Daiana says, confused.
"I know that voice," Hana says.
Suddenly, Team Rocket appears after a gust of wind.
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Hana says annoyed, "Oh no, not them again."
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light.
James:
Surrender now or prepare to fight.
Meowth:
Meowth, that's right.
Hana, Diana, and her Pokemon stare at them with confused expressions.
"Who are these weirdos?" Diana asks.
"They call themselves Team Rocket. They were trying to steal Pokemon from the Pokemon Center at Viridian City," Hana says.
Diana gasps and quickly holds Ember in her arms, "They steal Pokemon?!"
"I'm afraid so," Hana says.
Then turns to the bad guys, "Alright, what do you want this time? We're in the middle of a battle and…"
"Quiet little kid, We're not here to listen to you, We're here to get your Pokemon," Jessie says.
Then she and James point to Pikachu.
"Hand over that Pikachu," James says.
Hana angrily says, "Hey, this is my Pikachu. Go out and find your own."
"The only Pikachu we want is that one," Jessie says.
"We're only looking for the rarest most valuable Pokemon in the world, kid," James says.
Then Jessie adds, "And that special Pikachu's just the kind of Pokemon we need."
Just then, Meowth begins to use his claws on the duo's face as he shouts, "You idiots, stop giving away all of our secrets!"
Confused, Hana asks, "Is my Pikachu really that special?"
Meowth lands on the ground with his arms crossed, "Your Pikachu's power impresses even me. I really got a charge out of its incredible attack the last time we met. Its power exceeds its evolutionary level! Your Pokemon would…"
But Meowth is cut off when Jessie and James are stomping their foot on Meowth's back.
"Now you're the one giving away all our secrets!" Jessie shouts.
"Shut up before you tell them everything!" James adds.
Just then, Meowth shouts, "I'm in charge! Cut it out!"
"Make things easy and hand over that Pikachu," Jessie says.
"Then hand us those two shiny color Ralts," James adds.
Hana angrily says, "Back off! Those Pokemon are my friends and family! And I'm not going to hand them to you!"
"She's right! Leave Hana and her Pokemon alone!" Diana angrily says.
"Then you leave us no choice," James says as he and Jessie hold the Pokeballs.
"Pokemon battle!" Jessie says.
Then they both throw their Pokeballs.
Jessie calls out, "Ekans, Go!"
"Koffing, Go get them," James adds.
Soon, Ekans and Koffing come out of their Pokeballs.
"If you want to try taking them, then we'll have a battle," Hana angrily says.
Then turns to Pikachu, "Ready Pikachu!"
"Pika!" (You got it!) Pikachu says.
Diana turns to Ember, "Come on girl, let's help them out."
"Cynda," (Right.) Ember replies.
Ember jumps off of Diana's arms and lands next to Pikachu.
"Koffing, use your Slug attacks," James says.
Koffing spits out sludge toward Hana and Diana's Pokemon.
They both call out, "Pikachu/Ember dodge!"
Both of the Pokemon dodges as the sludge hits the ground.
"Pikachu, use your Quick Attack!" Hana calls out.
"Pika!" (You got it!)" Pikachu says.
Then Pikachu accelerates at top speed.
"Ekans, dig to the ground!" Jessie says.
Ekans jumps up and burrows into the ground. Pikachu stops and looks around to find Ekans.
Hana calls out, "Pikachu, remain calm! Stay still, and listen and feel the ground carefully."
"Pika," (Right.) Pikachu replies.
Pikachu stays up and uses his ears and paws as a guide. Soon, Pikachu's ears twitch as the ground begins to shake.
Hana senses it and calls out, "Pikachu, jump!"
Pikachu quickly jumps in the air as Ekans rises from the ground.
Then Hana calls out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
"Pikachu!" Pikachu screams and fires thunderbolts at the Ekans.
Meanwhile, Ember and Diana are fighting Koffing.
Diana calls out, "Ember, use Swift!"
Ember jumps in the air and performs swift. Stars fly out and hit the Koffing.
"Koffing, use tackle!" James calls out.
Koffing speeds over and hits Ember.
"Ember!" Diana exclaims.
Ember is able to land on her feet.
Diana then says, "Ember, use Flame Wheel!"
Ember spins as the four spots spread fire and spins into a ball. Then Ember rolls to Koffing and strikes at it. At the same time, Ekans and Pikachu continue to fight against each other.
Hana calls out, "Alright Pikachu, quick attack!"
Pikachu then speeds over and rams Ekans on the stomach.
Then Diana calls out, "Ember, use Quick Attack too!"
Ember uses quick attack too, and hits Koffing. Koffing is flown back, but is able to remain a float.
"Koffing, use sludge attack!" James says.
Koffing then spray splats of sludge all over the place. This time, it ends up hitting Pikachu and Ember's eyes.
"Pikachu!" Hana panics.
"Ember!" Diana adds, shocked.
Then both of the trainers pick up their Pokemon.
"If you think using your dirty tricks is enough to beat us, you're wrong," Hana says.
Hana then turns to Diana, "They might try anything to get what they want, but no matter what happens, I'm not going to let them have Pikachu."
Hana then gives Diana Pikachu and the Coordinator takes it from her hands. Hana then brings out two Pokeballs.
"Little Brother! Little Sister! Go!" Hana calls out and throws the Pokeballs.
Then the Ralts twins come out of it.
Diana is impressed, "Wow! You have two Ralts!"
Diana brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Ralts, the Feeling Pokémon. Ralts is the pre-evolved form of Kirlia. It can use the horns on its head to read human emotions. Ralts rarely shows itself to humans, but may occasionally approach when it senses positive or happy feelings."
"Whoa! Both of your Ralts are different shiny colors," Diana says, amazed.
"So there are the two color Ralts. They will be great Team Rocket members," Jessie says.
"Not only we'll take Pikachu, but those two Ralts too," James says.
"That's what you think. Little Brother, Little Sister, use Confusion!" Hana says.
Soon, both of their eyes glow. Soon, Jessie, James, Koffing, and Ekans are caught in the attack.
"Wha-what is this?!" James exclaims.
"I can't move!" Jessie adds.
Just then, Meowth steps into the open, "You two little psychic babies don't stand a chance against Meowth."
"We'll see about that. Little Sister, use Drain kiss," Hana says.
The Sister Ralts speeds to Meowth and gives it a kiss. Soon, Meowth begins to get dizzy and moves his feet like it's dancing
"Meowth!" Jessie screams.
"Stop dancing around!" James angrily says.
Meowth soon is lifted in the air.
Hana then calls out, "Little Brother. Little Sister. Double Psybeam!"
Both of the Ralts launch two beams of colors and they combine to one. The Psybeam strikes Team Rocket and causes a loud explosion. Soon, Team Rocket is flying in the air.
"Those two pipsqueaks are stronger than they look!" James screams.
"Who knew that two Psybeams can become one super one!" Jessie adds.
"My head still feels dizzy," Meowth adds.
They continue to fly far and high in the air as they screams, "We're blasting off again!"
Hana and Diana look to see Team Rocket has been launched into the air and hopefully not coming back anytime soon. Hana and Diana also clean their Pokemon's faces and clean from the sludge.
Hana picks up the two Ralts, "I'm very proud of you two. We won because of you."
Diana walks over, "You two are tougher than you look, and you're both so cute."
The Sister Ralts begins to blush with a smile, while the Brother Ralts turns his head with a huff.
Diana becomes confused, "What's wrong with that one?"
Hana giggles, "Yeah. Little Brother doesn't like being called cute. You know, since he's a boy."
"I understand, my brother doesn't like being called cute either. I'm sorry, Little brother," Diana says.
"Ralts," (You're forgiven.) Brother Ralts says.
"Little Brother says he forgives you," Hana says.
"Thank you," Diana says.
Suddenly, two Pokemon land on their heads. They both look up to see each having a small caterpillar-like Pokemon. It's red with cream underside, and face, large yellow eyes with dark pupils, one sharp yellow stinger on the head and two at the rear, tall, erect, red spikes behind it's forehead, and similar, smaller spines behind, and five pairs of stubby white limbs.
"Hey, those are Wurmples!" Hana says, amazed.
She then brings out her Pokedex, "Wurmple, the Worm Pokémon. Wurmple live primarily off of sap from trees. The suction cups on its feet keep it from slipping."
"Wow! Can't believe that these two decided to pop in on us," Diana says.
Both of the Wurmple begin to say, "Wurmple Wurmple Wurmple Wurmple!"
"What are they saying?" Diana asks.
"They… they want to come with us? They saw us battling and impressed that we wanted to protect our Pokemon, and decided that they wanted to come to us. They want to be strong and make friends," Hana says.
"Really?" Diana asks.
Both of the Pokemon smile and nod their heads.
"I'll take that as a yes," Hana says, and holds out one of her Pokeball.
Diana takes out one, "Well then, welcome to the team."
Hana and Diana hold out the Pokeballs and both the Wurmple tap them. Then each of the Wurmple goes inside and it soon clicks.
"Looks like we got new friends in our group," Hana says.
"Yeah. I caught my first Pokemon in Kanto," Diana says and smiles with glee.
Soon, the two girls walk down the path. The Pokemon they have out are Pikachu and Ember.
Diana asks, "Hey Hana, you sure you don't mind me coming with you on your journey?"
"I don't mind at all. The more the merrier I always believe, so I'm glad to have another person to talk to. Plus, I think Pikachu and Ember have become good friends," Hana says.
"I agree," Diana says.
"Pika," (I agree.) Pikachu says.
"Cynda," (Me too.) Ember happily replies.
The two Pokemon continue to walk down the path to reach their next destination. Now that they have a new addition to the team. Hana and Diana are now travel companions, they have different dreams but will travel on the same path. As the journey continues.
