VI. Fallout
Junko lounged on her bed at around 10:30pm that night with sleep far away from her mind. Today's trial had kept course with her plan with a few interesting twists but still there were a few unsettling kinks to hammer out. Mukuro had to be whipped back into line, having her do whatever she wanted was turning into a real question out of all this was Kyoko. Junko stared off into space pondering how she could split up Kyoko and Makoto. She came up with several ideas but settled on one.
If she could get Kyoko to turn on him, yes, that might be it. Make her believe that Makoto was out to get her. That Makoto was in fact part of a plot to kill Kyoko. Yeah that was it. Junko sat up on her bed, when she heard rustling noises in the kitchen. She got up to confront her sister, deciding once she saw Mukuro to sneak up on her, creeping up behind her sister as she was fixing a sandwich. Junko noticed a coffee cup, pushed it across the counter until it fell loudly into the sink. Mukuro jumped, whipping around with a butter knife in hand.
"Oh. Junko it's just you." Mukuro stated, relaxing her muscles. Junko frowned at her sister as the Deadpan persona stepped up.
"Just me? Am I not important enough to you? Your own little sister? I'm surprised based on how you screamed my name the other night I would think differently." Junko smirked, with still a deadpan tone. Mukuro blushed harshly and put down the knife, turning her full attention to Junko.
"You know that's not true. You're the most important person to me." Mukuro said pleadingly.
"If that's so, then why did you go against Kyoko in the trial? The stage was set for you to help convict Leon." Junko pushed. Mukuro was silent and shifted uncomfortably in place. Her soldier's demeanor was melting away. Junko's Royal persona took charge.
"Well? Explain yourself! Did you really think that you could escape my notice? I see all in my kingdom, including the pawns moving underneath my protection. Servants that act for me should be prepared to answer for their actions." Junko explained with wide, boastful hand gestures. Mukuro timidly opened her mouth and closed it again and then started to explain.
"I thought that what I was saying was something that you would have said. I was just trying to keep in your character." Mukuro explained. When she saw that Junko seemingly wasn't satisfied with this answer, Mukuro spoke again.
"I'm doing my best for you. It's a dream come true to be able to stand in your place, Junko." Mukuro spoke quickly. Junko saw through her sister's attempts to placate her and seized the opportunity for her own personal gain. Her Sad persona stepped in.
"Hardly, then, why are you doing all this? I told you not to go against Kyoko yet you make it a point to do so publicly. You must really wish to undermine me…" Junko said, turning away slowly, faking her sadness so well that Mukuro was softened by this.
"No- I-I'm sorry. I was being spiteful and jealous. Please, I just want you to have your dream." Mukuro said, placing a calloused hand tenderly on Junko's shoulder. Junko played into her sister's emotions. She grabbed her hand and turned around to face her. Mukuro blushed as Junko held Mukuro's hand in hers and touched it to her delicate face.
"So, tell me… what is my dream?" Junko asked, testing her sister. In that moment Mukuro was completely vulnerable to Junko's pseudo-tenderness as she spoke freely. Behind her eyes there was despair tinted in pain.
"Your dream is to plunge this whole boring world into despair. Murders, sucides and torture will be acts of worship to you. Racid carnage and crushed bones, offerings while screams and howls of suffering will be choruses of praise to you, the God of Despair." Mukuro passionately declared, growing even more love sick with Junko as she envisioned this. Junko smirked with satifiation, yes, she was the God of Despair, but she decided to push her sister farther. Switching to the Deadpan persona, Junko moved her face closer to Mukuro's
"What else?" Junko asked, their lips centimeters apart.
"The both of us will be side by side, spreading despair...right?" Mukuro asked timidly, getting a sinking feeling that the last part was possibly wrong. Junko closed the gap between their lips with a full kiss. After breaking from it she threw her arms around Mukuro's neck, pulling her sister into a hug. Junko could feel the warmth radiating from her sister's body as she spoke softly into her twin's ear.
"Yes, you're right. The two of us side by side, Kyoko is just a tool needed to accomplish this task. So if you want it to be just the two of us then for now play nice with her, big sis." Junko whispered into the silence of the hideout.
Junko started down the hallway the next morning. Moments before she had been sleeping on the couch with her sister's arms wrapped around her. She had let Mukuro feel like she was protecting her, that's what she had wanted after all. To be the big, strong older sister protecting her cute, vulnerable little sister. Junko couldn't deny that her sister's warmth still played on her arms and chest or that it didn't feel all that bad to be with Mukuro that way.
Junko shook those boring feelings from her mind. She was on a mission. Everyone else should still be in the dining hall for their morning meeting. Now was her chance. Once she reached Makoto's room she whipped out a skeleton key. Once inside she eyed the room skillfully, using her analytical prowess to decide where to plant evidence that Makoto was plotting to kill Kyoko. She decided on several spots, behind the headboard of the bed, inside Makoto's toolkit and behind one of the tiles in the bathroom. Once she was done Junko stepped back to admire her handiwork.
Behind the bed, a notebook with fake scribbled plans and a map of the school, behind the tile, a fake letter from the mastermind to Makoto and lastly inside the toolkit a small note telling Makoto to meet her last night at the gym. As Junko exited the room she snickered at the last one, the meet up note was the perfect thing to shine suspension on Makoto. She had seen him last night wandering the hallways, unable to sleep, a perfect act to take advantage of.
Junko swiftly entered the dining hall to see everyone arguing over what their next step should be. Hufumi was on his way back to the table trying his darndest not to spill any of Celeste's tea. Junko hid behind his large physique and walked seemingly bored back to the table.
"I'm telling you, that's a mistake! We stick together, that way no one gets picked off alone." Hina reasoned in desperation. Byakuya rolled his eyes.
"And we all saw how well that turned out. Sayuka ended up on her own and died anyway. Staying with the rest of you sheep is pointless, I'll win regardless, obstacles just make this game more interesting." With that Byakuya stood up from his seat and walked out of the dining hall without looking back. Toko rose from her seat as well, rubbing the sides of her arms drooling.
"Wherever MMMaster goes, I-I'll follow." She said dreamly as she skipped after him. Hina looked after them both as Sakura put a hand on her shoulder. Taka rose from his seat with passion in his voice.
"Classmates! Be reasonable! Strength in numbers is the best solution to our current predicament! Striking out on one's own is not wise in this school environment!" Mondo huffed as Yashiro, Chihiro, Hifumi looked nervously at each other. Junko spoke up.
"Well, if they don't wanna hang with us we can't make them. Like seriously, the way they're acting we're sooooo better off without them."
Honestly, Junko actually agreed with that statement, the game would be less boring if the contestants weren't constantly chasing after people that weren't going to listen to them anyway. It was so cliche and predictable. Hina leaned against Sakura's shoulder for comfort and Taka's red eyes looked ready to spill over with tears. Kyoko stood up with a calm expression on her face, but with determination behind her eyes. Junko involuntarily blushed this, she really wanted to know what Kyoko was thinking. What plan did the Ultimate Detective have?
"There's no use chasing after them. We should focus on searching for clues to escape this twisted killing game. As Monokuma already announced there is a second floor open. We should act now and search for clues to our situation." Kyoko finished with such conviction in her voice that the rest of the table followed suit as Kyoko started to finish the rest of her breakfast in preparation.
Junko slid down in a seat beside Kyoko, who barely acknowledged her. Junko was frustrated and upset. This was all her dumb sister's fault, lashing out at Kyoko during the trial. Now Kyoko was put off by her. Junko sighed knowing that she would have to work even harder to make it all up.
