Episode 19: Mystery of the Lighthouse
One evening, Hana and her friends are walking to find their next destination, but the problem is. They ended up getting lost again.
"The road's got to be somewhere," Hana says.
"Everything's somewhere," Chase says.
"Have we gotten lost again?" Diana asks, worried.
Alistair begins to whimper in fright.
Akira picks the little Pikachu up and rubs his back to comfort him.
"It's okay Alistar, I'm sure we'll find some place to stay for the night," Akira says.
"Pika," (Okay.) Alistar says.
Hana says, "It's kind of amazing, when I left on my journey, I expected to have fun and adventures as I made friends with people and Pokemon. Now I'm traveling with Humans with their own Pokemon. Not to mention battling against mean people like Team Rocket and that Pokemon Hunter Crimson."
"That's true, but you also accomplish a lot. You capture Pokemon and even earn them by being yourself. You also got two Badges, the Boulder Badge and the Cascade Badge," Diana says.
"Don't forget about you Diana, you already have three ribbons," Hana says.
"And you both need more. Hana still needs six badges while Diana needs two more," Chase says.
"He's right, we're still long ways away until the next down to get another badge," Hana says.
"But first, we need to find another place to stay for the night. I could use a nice bed," Diana says.
"And we can cook something for ourselves as well," Chase says.
Hana then notices, "Hey guys, there's something up ahead."
Hana then walks ahead while Diana and the others follow. Soon, they exit the forest and are amazed to see a beautiful ocean with yellow sand, and an astonishing sunset.
"It's beautiful," Hana says.
"Pika," (Pretty.) Pikachu adds.
"Yeah. Maybe we can stay here for the night," Chase says.
"No. I don't want sand in my hair," Diana says.
Suddenly, Hana feels something tapping on her leg. She looks down to see a crustacean Pokémon with a strong outer shell protecting its small body. Its upper half is red and has its eyes and two small spikes on the top of its head. Its light tan arms are also connected to its upper body. Its lower body is light tan and doubles as its jaw with two fangs overlapping its upper body. Its hips are visible on the lower front of its body connected to its four long, thin legs. Each leg has a single, claw-like foot. Finally, the two large, red pincers at the end of its arms.
"It's a Krabby," Hana says.
Then brings out her Pokeball, "Krabby, the River Crab Pokémon. Living on sandy beaches in burrows it digs, Krabby can grow back its pincers if they break off in battle. Its average height is about 16 inches."
Hana picks up Krabby and says, "You're the cutest and smallest Krabby I've ever seen."
Krabby begins to blush a little for the compliment.
Hana asks, "You wanna be my Pokemon?"
Krabby nods its head. Hana smiles and taps her Pokeball on it and it goes inside. Soon it's been caught, and it's transported to Professor Oak's lab. Diana and the other simply smile.
"Well that was an easy catch," Chase says.
"Yeah. If I didn't know better, I think you're a Pokemon Magnet," Akira says.
"Thanks," Hana says.
Diana looks to see the sun continues to go down.
"The sun is going down and it will be dark soon. I was hoping to call Professor Oak to see how my Pokemon and my family are doing," Hana says.
"But we haven't passed a phone all day and this beach is pretty far out of the way," Chase says.
I'm more worried about having to camp out again tonight. I'm sick of sleeping in sleeping bags," Diana says.
"And we need to make some more food for the Pokemon," Akira says.
"Pika! Pika!" (Hana! Hana!" Piakchu says, jumping up and down.
Hana walks to her Pikachu, "What is it, buddy?"
"Pika Pikachu!" (Look over there!) Pikachu says.
"Huh?" Hana says, confused.
She and the other look up to see something up ahead. They soon see a building along with a tall tower with a light shining on it and its spinning around and around.
"What's that?" Akira asks.
"It's a lighthouse," Diana says.
"That's great. Maybe someone can let us stay for the night," Hana says.
Yeah. There'll probably be some extra beds. A sleeping bag is no way for me to get my beauty sleep," Diana says.
"And we can probably cook there as well," Chase says.
"Yeah, and there'll be somebody there to tell us where we are," Akira says.
"Let's go!" Hana calls out.
Time has gone by and by the time Hana and the others reach the lighthouse, it's very dark outside. Luckily, Hana and Diana have Charmander and Ember to make light for them.
"Whew. That was farther than it looked," Akira says.
"This lighthouse looks weird," Chase says.
"Either way, it looks… creepy," Diana says
The group of friends reach the door to see that it has different pictures of Pokemon on it.
"Guess we better ring the bell," Diana says.
Hana steps forward, "I got it."
Hana presses a button next to the door and begins to ring a creepy ringing. Everyone is frightened that they might not be able to move.
Suddenly, they hear someone on a speaker next to a door, a man, "Who's there?"
"Uh, excuse us, sir, but we're travelers, and we're lost," Chase says.
"We also like to use um, use your phone so that I can call home, please sir" Hana says.
"We've been camping out for quite a while, and I'd sure appreciate a nice, comfy bed," Diana says.
And I wonder if I could use your kitchen to make some bacon double cheeseburgers for our group. And I'd be more than happy to make something for you," Akira adds.
The man on the speaker says, "That's great. Can you cook without using tofu?
Oh, sure, I can cook lots of things without using any tofu," Akira says.
The man on the speaker says, "That's good. I've been eating nothing but tofu since my cook went on vacation. Come on in."
Just then, the doors fully open along the group to enter. Hana and her friends do just that.
Hana asks, Would you mind if I borrow your phone?
"There's a phone right near you," The man answers
Hana turns her head to see a screen and it has a Bellsprout with buttons on it. They all walk to it to see that it's actually a video phone.
"Hey, it's a videophone. Oh, that's cool," Diana.
"I'll call Professor Oak," Hana says.
Hana then presses a few buttons for the professor's number. The video phone turns on to reveal Professor Oak standing in front of a portable stove with a bowl on it. He uses some chopsticks to test the water.
"Uh… hi Professor," Hana says.
"Well, hi, Hana. You caught me cooking dinner. My cook is on vacation, and I've got to fend for myself till she returns," Professor Oak says.
"I see. Anyway, I want to check and see how you and my Pokemon are doing," Hana says.
"I'm doing fine, and all of your Pokemon. In fact, I just received your Krabby. Have a look," Professor Oak says.
He moves out of the way to see Hana's little crabby in a bowl.
Hana waves, "Hi Krabby."
Krabby happily waves back.
"I can see Krabby already made himself feel right at home," Hana says.
"Yes. And so are your other Pokemon. I must admit, I was surprised about what happened and how you received many Pokemon, but I'm glad to say they are happy as they can be," Professor Oak says.
"Thanks. I was hoping they haven't given you much trouble," Hana says.
"They are no trouble at all, especially thanks to Luxray and your mother with your siblings. They heard what you did and are very proud, especially your mother," Professor Oak says.
Hana smiles and says, "I'm glad to hear."
"You know Gar caught a Krabby himself and it's quite a catch, Take a look for yourself," Professor Oak says.
Then shows the screen to a large Krabby in a large tank.
"Wow! That's big," Hana says.
"Awesome," Chase says.
"And I say you both are doing an excellent job. You caught twenty nine Pokemon while Gary already caught forty five," Professor Oak says.
Pikachu jumps on Hana's shoulder and says, "Pikachu," (That's true.)
By the way, Hana, just where are you calling me from anyway?" Professor Oak asks.
"We're at an old lighthouse way up on top of a cliff," Hana says.
"Oh, that must be Bill's lighthouse. He's a young Pokémon researcher who knows even more than me. See what you can learn from him. He could teach you just about everything about Pokémon, and then some," Professor Oak says.
Suddenly, the young man's voice appears, "This is Bill, Professor Oak. Good to hear from you.
Hello, Bill. Please give my friends a crash course in Pokémon," Professor Oak says.
He then takes his dinner up with the chopsticks and says, "Uh-oh. Tofu's done."
Then the video phone hangs up.
Suddenly, the young man, known as Bill says, "Well, there's no way I can ignore a request from the great Professor Oak.
Suddenly, the lights turn on, and the young man says, I am Bill of the lighthouse."
The group turns their heads to see a large Pokemon on top of a small star case, causing the group to gasp in shock. They are indeed shocked, especially on what kind of Pokemon this is.
"It can't be," Chase says.
"That's a Kabuto, an extinct Pokémon," Hana adds.
"But what it's doing here," Diana adds.
Suddenly, the Pokemon speaks, "No, I'm not a Kabuto. I'm Bill, the Pokémon researcher."
Confused, Hana asks, "Wait, are you a human being or a Pokémon?"
This is a costume. I'm stuck inside it," Bill says.
"Do you need help getting out?" Hana asks
"Yes, step up here," Bill says.
Hana walks up the stairs and says, "Tell me what to do."
"Push that button," Bill says.
Hana looks on the costume and notices the button on one of the sides.
She walks to the button and asks, "This one here?"
"Yes. These arms are too short. I tried to get out, but I couldn't reach the button," Bill says.
Hana presses the button, and it makes a strange sound and it glows from the hedgehogs. The next thing the group knows, the Kabuto opens up and the legs and front fall from the ground. He has short dark green hair, brown eyes, and he is wearing a burgundy suit with red cuffs on the sleeves, and wears a light green scarf around his neck
He smiles and says, "Thanks for helping me get out. I've been stuck in that costume for hours."
"Did you come from a costume party?" Diana asks.
"No, it's not for a party. This is a special costume that I use in my research. Getting inside its skin helps me get inside its head," Bill says.
"What do you mean?" Chase asks.
"There are many kinds of extinct Pokémon, and I want to understand how they lived. Putting on a costume is one way of trying to figure out what they were like," Bill says.
Hana asks, "You can understand what a Pokémon was like from wearing a costume?"
Yes, indeed. Or I'm beginning to. This planet was created 4.6 billion years ago. During that time, all kinds of Pokémon existed. They had many ways of living," Bill says.
"All kinds of Pokémon? How many?" Hana asks.
" On this planet, there are more than 700 known species of Pokémon of seven different Regions," Bill says.
"Over 700?" Hana asks, astonished.
"In seven different regions," Diana adds.
"You're lucky to be Pokémon trainers. Your goal is to catch all of these different kinds of Pokémon. That's a great task," Bill says.
"Yeah. And I ended up having twenty nine Pokemon already," Hana says.
"There sure are a lot of…" Hana says.
But Bill says, "Of course, these are just the Pokémon we know about. There are still many Pokémon that have never been discovered, so we need to keep searching."
"How many could there be?" Hana asks.
"No one knows exactly. The search goes on. There's always something new to look for in our lives and in ourselves," Bill says.
"Something to look for?" Hana says, confused.
Yes, there's a lot for us to look for, inside and outside ourselves. There's meaning for every creature, a meaning for all the Pokémon, and a meaning for all us humans too," Bill says.
"A meaning for all," Hana replies.
Keep looking for new Pokémon to catch. It's something that's very important for Pokémon research. It's as vital to me as it is to you," Bill says.
Hana and the others nod their heads.
Suddenly, they hear a voice, "Evui Evui"
Confused, Hana and the others look down to see two small Pokemon in one of them is a familiar brown color and the other is a beautiful silver color.
"Two Eevee," Hana says.
"And one of them has a shiny silver coat.
Hana brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. Eevee is rarely seen, and can adapt to severe habitats by evolving, changing its capabilities and form."
"Eevee," The Eevee says, and snuggles the head against Hana's leg.
The other does the same.
"I'm really impressed, this is the first time I've seen the Eevees friendly with anyone. They're very shy and usually hide when people come here," Bill says.
"Are they your Pokemon?" Hana asks.
"No. I found them in a crate while that was floating at sea. I took them back here and nursed them to health, but are weary about humans. So I am surprised to see how both Eevee are getting acquainted to you," Bill says.
The two Eevee smile at Hana and she smiles back. Hana then reaches down slowly and gently. She then picks up both Eevee in her arms.
"They're so cute," Hana happily says.
"Eevee!" Both Eevee reply.
Diana turns to Bill, "So Bill, what do you think about shiny type Pokemon."
"That is one of the many mysteries in our world. Even though there are many Pokemon that are alike, there are also different ones with unique colors and other appearances. The Alola Region Pokemon have some Pokemon similar to Kanto, but have different appearance and different types. And just recently, researchers are studying Pokemon in the Galar Region," Bill says.
"Just like Winter," Chase says.
"Winter?" Bill asks.
"Winter is my Vulpix that I found. It floated to the forest in Pallet Town and it was an egg. I hatched it and it became a Vulpix. I call her Winter, and she's an ice type," Hana says.
"That sounds fascinating. You don't mind if I see her?" Bill replies.
"Not at all," Hana says.
Hana puts the two Eevees down and opens her backpack. But ends up getting pounced by two baby Pokemon. The Little Brother, Little Sister, and Winter exist their Pokeballs on their own to see Latias and Latios on her. Winter walks to Hana's face that is on the floor and licks her cheek.
Chase laughs, "Here we go again."
"My word, you sure have a lot of Pokemon. Not only an Alolan Vulpix, but two shiny Kirlias and a baby Latios and Latias. Two legendary Pokemon," Bill says, interested.
"Yeah. Hana is one lucky girl," Diana says.
"And a real Poke-mom," Chase adds.
"You can say that again," Akira says.
Then the two Eevee along with Pikachu and the two Kirlas walk to Hana who are being snuggled by the babies. The Eevees snuggle Hana as well
"Indeed. Right now, though, there's only one Pokémon I'm searching for," Bill says.
The group becomes confused as Hana sits up with confused expressions.
Hana asks, "What kind of Pokémon?"
Soon, the group is on the top of the lighthouse. Since the two Eevees, Latios and Latias, and the two Kirlias want to come, Bill says it's' okay.
Bill says, "It's probably the biggest Pokémon ever. Bigger than all of the no one has ever seen it. It's been wandering the world for years and years, looking for friends."
"But doesn't that Pokémon have any friends or family?" Diana asks.
The Pokémon wanders because it's alone. It's the only Pokémon of its species, one of a kind.
"That's so sad," Hana says.
"Yes it was. One night, I heard this very strange sound coming across the ocean," Bill adds.
Bill brings out a remote and presses the button. On the speaker on top, there is a melodic wailing.
Bill says, "I want... I want to meet you. That's what it said to me."
"Pika," (Poor guy.) Alistair
"Some time ago, I recorded a similar sound, and played it from the lighthouse towards the ocean." Bill says.
The melodic wailing continues.
"Let's be friends. I want to meet you." Bill translate.
Then says, "One day, I heard the same voice calling back to me from over the ocean.
The melodic wailing continues.
"I want to meet you too. I want to be friends." Bill replies, trying to translate to the Pokemon's speech.
"It was answering me back. Some foggy night, that Pokémon might come here to meet a friend it's been seeking for a very long time. I would be so happy to meet that Pokémon," Bill says.
Then Akira asks, "But will you try to capture the Pokémon?"
Why do I need to capture it? Meeting it would be enough for me. Just a chance to study it would make my long wait worthwhile," Bill says.
Suddenly, the group hears wailing from a distance. They continue to hear the wailing as a mysterious shadow comes close to them
"It's here. The signal," Bill says.
Bill then presses the button that lets out the melodic wailing from the speaker. Then shines white, yellow, red, and blue light. That catches the Pokemon's attention and continues to wail.
"It sounds like it's singing," Diana says.
"Would you care to dance?" Chase asks, bowing his head.
"Oh, thank you," Diana answers, curtsy.
Soon the Pokemon begins to sing to the Melodic wailing.
Hana, Akira, and Bill are astonished to see the Pokemon is coming towards them.
"What beautiful music," Hana says
"it's very haunting. Yet so sweet," Akira says.
The Pokemon continues to come closer to the lighthouse. Seeing the Pokemon up close, Hana can see the shadowy appearance.
"Wait a minute. I think I know what that Pokemon is," Hana says.
"You do?" Diana asks.
"I think so, but that Pokemon is rarely seen by anyone," Hana says.
"It's a… a…" Bill says, astonished.
"It's a Dragonite," Hana says.
She then brings out her Pokedex and presents it to the Pokemon.
Dexter says, "Dragonite, the Dragon Pokémon. This extremely rare and highly intelligent type is able to fly faster than any known Pokémon."
"That's a Dragonite? I never seen one this big before. It might be the only Dragonite like that in the world," Akira says.
"And it's walking this way," Diana says.
Everyone stops and steps back a little to give Bill and Dragonite some room. The Dragonite leans closer to see Bill who is surprised that he is speechless.
Hana whispers, "Don't be shy, say hello. Or who knows how long you'll get to see it."
Bill takes a deep breath and walks to the Pokemon and says, "H-hello! My name is Bill a-and I would like to be your friend."
The others giggle to see how embarrassed Bill is. The Dragonite soon begins to smile and reaches out to Bill and gives him a hug. Then begins to snuggle him. Bill begins to shed tears of Joy and hugs the Pokemon back. Hana and her friends including the Pokemon begin to shed tears with joy. Bill is able to become friends with the Pokemon and see that Bill and Dragonite are able to become friends.
The next day, Hana and her friends are ready to continue their journey, but not before saying goodbye to Bill.
"Thank you for letting us spend the night Bill," Akira says.
"Yeah. We had a great time," Chase says.
"And it's exciting to see a large Dragonite before our eyes," Diana says.
Hana happily says, "I'm glad you and Dragonite are friends now."
"Yes. And there was no trouble at all. I do wish you all the best of luck. Good luck on your Journey to the Indigo Plateau, and Diana, good luck on your Pokemon Contests," Bill says.
The large Dragonite nods its head in reply.
"And we wish you the best of luck on your research," Diana says.
Bill then turns to Hana, "And Hana, I would be very glad if you allow the two Eevee to join you on your journey."
"Huh?" Hana says, becoming confused.
"You're the first Person that the two Eevees have been friends with and I think you can help them open up and get along with others," Bill says.
Both of the Eevees walk to Hana and snuggles her legs with glee.
Hana smiles and says, "You both ready to come with me?"
"Eev!" (Yes!) Both Eevee answers with smiles.
"Well then, welcome to the team," Hana says, and taps both Pokeballs on it. SoonHana catches both of the Eevees in her Pokeballs.
Hana and her friends walk down the trail as they wave goodbye to Bill and the Giant Dragonite. Bill is happy to meet the Dragonite he's been researching, and Dragonite is happy to finally make a friend. Hana and her friends can see they are still mysterious about Pokemon and not just from Kanto, but in other Regions. There will be more to discover, meet, and become friends. And so, the group of friends continue on their adventure to whatever will happen. As the journey continues.
