VII. Promise
Junko leaned up against the door frame to one of the second floor rest of her classmates except for Byakuya and Toko had been searching around the new area for clues. Junko yawned knowing that the higher floors held much more intrigue. Chihiro and Hifumi were inside the classroom looking around. Chihiro struggled with one of the window bolts as Hifumi tried to scoot down the narrow lanes of desks knocking over almost everything he touched, due to his wide physique.
Junko rolled her eyes and walked off to find Kyoko. Jesus, they were soooo insufferable, how the hell had she gotten stuck babysitting them? Kyoko seemed to remember that 'Junko' had tried to argue with her in the trial, calling Makoto her boyfriend and accusing them of working together. Damn, Mukuro had undone much of her progress with Kyoko. It made Junko's Rage persona want to destroy everyone around her. But no that wouldn't do. She needed to keep a level head. Besides it was only a matter of time before Kyoko would be led to believe that Makoto was working against her. She passed one of the open classrooms where Makoto was investigating the room with Sakura and Celeste.
Junko smirked to herself, hmph, leaving Kyoko alone, BIG mistake, Junko thought. As she approached Kyoko, she noticed the detective stiffen up in response.
"Hey, why the hell are you standing around in the hallway. Weren't you the one saying we should be busy investigating or whatever?" Junko questioned.
"I was merely gathering my thoughts. Something everyone should have done before we started the last trial." Kyoko responded, walking off toward the changing rooms. Junko followed after her, certain that the last comment was a shrewd response to 'her' actions.
"Hey! You can't just say shit like that and walk off!" Junko barked at Kyoko, her Rude persona threatening to attack. Junko caught up to Kyoko outside of the girl's changing room. Kyoko looked Junko dead in the eyes.
"Did you have something else to add? Or are you just here to accuse me and my 'boyfriend' of working together again?" Kyoko snarked, her eyes narrowed. Junko looked annoyed.
"As if! Look, I didn't mean everything I said in the class trial and obviously the killer turned out to be that sleaze-bag Leon anyway so what difference does it make?" Junko tried to reason. She was starting to resent her sister's meddling more and more.
"Apparently it does make a big difference, you seemed pretty convinced that me and Makoto were the ones who did it. Yet when I asked if I could count on you, it was a resounding yes." Kyoko said. Junko rolled her eyes.
"Big deal! At first EVERYONE was convinced that you love-birds did it, but it turns out you didn't, can we just-" Junko stopped as smirk started to crawl up onto Kyoko's face. She turned around, swiped her student handbook and entered the girls changing room.
SHIT, Junko thought, she knows. Should she go after her? Looking around the area, the rest of her classmates were nowhere to be found. They hadn't made it this far into the second floor. Junko analyzed the situation quickly. She knew the risks of being alone with Kyoko, but that just made it all the more thrilling. The idea of moving in on Kyoko with Makoto being clueless was so alluring. Junko pulled out her student handbook and scanned it without thinking, slowly entering the changing room.
At first glance, the changing room was seemingly empty. Junko started to look around slowly before she heard shuffling behind her. Whipping around, Kyoko had silently approached her from behind. Junko was taken aback, even her sister had a hard time sneaking up on her. Kyoko folded her arms and started to circle Junko.
"I'm the Ultimate Detective; as such, one would think that my skills only apply to scanning crime scenes and examining bodies. However, reading people also comes with the territory and after reading you I've drawn several conclusions." Kyoko said, eyes holding Junko's gaze with cold distrust. Junko herself was close to drooling, she found Kyoko's analyzing gaze despairingly erotic. Kyoko paused her pacing and squarely faced the fashionista. Junko swallowed.
"So? You think I'm a blonde bimbo, just like everyone else?" Junko proposed, insecurities fueling her. Kyoko softly shook her head.
"No, I believe that's what you want people to think, because apart from the last trial, you seem to have fairly informed opinions. It's just easier to avoid suspension and disappear unnoticed if everyone buys your whole act, I am right?" Junko was surprised, Kyoko had noticed her leaving the dining hall before the last trial. SHIT, her sister was right, they needed to be more careful.
"You're also quite shrewd in your observations, although you display in indifference when others talk and you seem hyper aware whenever we talk." Kyoko concluded. Junko fidgeted in place.
"Wow. You pay a lot of attention to me, obsessed much?" Junko aimed, struggling to maintain her aloof attitude. Kyoko picked up on this and moved closer to her with a smile.
"I apologize, I was under the impression that the Ultimate Fashionista would desire attention and admiration. Are my actions unwanted?" Kyoko suggested, peering into Junko's blue eyes with a coy look. Junko involuntarily blushed. What the fuck was this? This feeling of anticipation mimicked her body's response to despair.
"I d-don't know. Like it's not a big deal...you're attention or whatever." Junko said, turning away from her to play with one of her pigtails.
"Really? Based on the way you talk about Makoto and me, it seems like you want to wrestle my attention away from him. I'm quite certain that you're jealous." Kyoko concluded. Junko's face turned red all the way up to her ears. GODDAMMIT. Junko wanted to swap personas so badly, like changing out of sweaty clothes after a long hard day. She had to keep it together, Junko didn't want to ruin a possible chance to earn her way back onto Kyoko's good graces. SHIT. She sounded more and more like her sister talking about her.
"Look, you obviously have it twisted! I'm not obsessed over every little bit of attention you give me and I'm not jealous of that talentless, loser, nobody-." Junko rattled off, before she was cut off by Kyoko giving her a peck on the lips.
Junko was frozen, for the first time in years, she didn't know what her next move was. She struggled to find the words to hold Kyoko and these alien feelings at arm's length. Kyoko smiled and softly giggled. Junko was still stunned, she was really at a loss for what to do. She found herself staring into the unknown for the frist time EVER. All the while she couldn't make up her mind about this… feeling. Was it despairing, hopeful, good or bad? Either way Junko blushed and tried to shove Kyoko away. Instead Kyoko read her like a book and swiftly took Junko by the arms and pulled her in for a tender kiss. After breaking apart, Junko finally found a response.
"Whaa-what. What the hell was that?!" Kyoko walked past Junko, flipped her hair over her shoulders and looked back with an aura of smug confidence.
"Oh that. That is a mystery for you to solve. If you think you know the answer, come find me." Kyoko said leaving the locker room.
Junko was in shock. This was supposed to happen, she Junko Enoshima was supposed to be the mastermind, always one step ahead, impossible to surprise. Yet, Kyoko had managed to stop Junko in her tracks with just two kisses. Somehow Junko felt changed. Like there was some part of her that wanted to change her plans. How? Well, that part was uncertain. Suddenly, Hina wandered into the locker room.
"Whoa! Sakura, you gotta see this! The locker room's huge!"
