Episode 38: Hypno's Naptime
After winning a rainbow Badge from Erika, Hana and her friends find themselves in a new city. There are people walking around and with the buildings so high that the sky is covered.
Hana looks around as she says, "Gee, it feels like all these buildings are closing in on us!"
"eah, and they're all so tall, you can't even see the sky," Diana says.
Akira turns to Chase and asks, "Where are we now?"
Looking at the map, Chase answers, "A, HopHopHop Town?"
Confused, Hana, Akira, and Diana reply, "HopHopHop?"
"Chu," (Town?) The two Pikachu answers.
Winnie looks at them with confused looks. Then goes back to sleep in her carrier with the pacifier in her mouth, and she sucks on it like not having a care in the world
Suddenly, they hear someone calling out, "Arnold!"
The group turns their heads to see a woman and she calls out, "Arnold!"
The next moment, she is hugging Chase with glee, "Where have you been, Arnold? Mother's been so worried!"
Finding room to breath, Chase says, "Excuse me, but my name is Chase!"
"He's right. He's not Arnold."
The woman looks at the boy and lets him go in surprise, "Oh! I'm so sorry! But you look just like my Arnold."
The group looks at the woman with confused looks.
"What happened to him?" Diana asks.
Soon, the group sits down on stone seats to hear the mother's story.
"I'm so upset because my son, Arnold, just disappeared. He's been gone for three days! I can't find him anywhere." The mother says.
Akira asks, "And you haven't heard from him?"
"Not a word," The mother says.
Hana then asks, "Could he have gone off to become a Pokemon trainer?"
"He did like Pokemon, of course, but he never mentioned anything about becoming a trainer," The mother says.
Then Diana asks, "Don't you think he'll probably just come home soon?"
The mother shakes her head and says, "My son isn't the only child who's disappeared recently."
"He's not?" Chase asks.
"There are more missing children?" Hana asks.
The mother turns her head and says, "See those posters? Those are pictures of all the children that have disappeared."
Hana and the others look to see the poster of missing children. Turns out, there are a lot of them.
"That many?!" Diana asks, shocked.
"And none of their parents heard a word from them?" Chase asks.
"Not at all," The mother says, sounding very sad for her Son's well being.
Suddenly, they hear a familiar voice, "They certainly were nice children. All of them."
They turn their heads to see Officer Jenny on her motorbike.
She looks at the poster and says,"Disappearing one by one like that. I just can't understand it."
She gets off of her motorbike with another poster in her hand, "Let's see, where should I hang this one.
Hana rushes over to Officer Jenny and asks, "Excuse me! Are you the cousin or second cousin of the Jenny of Maiden's Peak."
"Actually, I'm her cousin's cousin," Jenny says.
"It figures," Diana says.
Akira says, "Maybe we can help find the missing children. I'm a police officer so my Pokemon and I can give you a hand."
"Thanks I really appreciate it," Jenny says.
Diana and Chase agree. Hana looks to see the woman with the worried look on her face.
Hana thinks, "She reminds me of, my mom"
She remembers after they leave Lavender Town She and her mother hug each other before they say their goodbyes.
"She must be worried," Hana says.
Pikachu jumps on Hana's head and says, "Kachu. (Very.)
"You think so, too, huh?" Hana asks.
"Pika," (Sure do.) Pikachu says.
"Then our best bet is to try to find the missing children," Hana says.
"Pika! (And how!) Pikachu says.
Soon, Hana and her friends are with Officer Jenny to help her solve the mystery of the missing children.
"All of the missing children disappeared exactly three days ago," Jenny says.
"Three days ago?" Hana asks, and Jenny nods her head.
Akira asks, "Besides that, do the missing children have anything else in common?"
"They don't have a thing in common," Jenny answers.
The group begins to think until Jenny says, "But I think other kids may know something about it."
Soon, the group arrives at the Pokemon Center.
"I see. So we'll ask the kids in the Pokemon Center if they know anything," Hana says.
"Only one way to find out," Diana says.
The group enters inside and asks some of the kids if they have seen any of the missing ones.
Jenny holds a photo to two kids and asks, "Have you seen this little boy before?"
"I haven't," The first boy answers.
Then the second boy says, "Yeah. I play with him all the time."
"When was the last time you saw him?" Akira asks.
"I don't know," The second boy answers.
"That's okay. Thank you for your time," Akira says.
Hana, Chase, and Diana walk to the front desk to see Nurse Joy.
Hana suspects, "I bet you're related to the Joy in Maiden's Peak, aren't you?"
"Well, you'd win that bet," Joy says.
"We're here about the missing children," Diana says, holding a photo of one of the missing kids.
"Oh, those kids who disappeared all of a sudden. I saw it on the news," Joy replies.
"Please, is there anything you can tell us about these children?" Chase asks.
Nurse Joy says in concern, "I'd like to help you, but right now, I'm afraid I've got my hands full with our own mystery."
"What do you mean? What's the matter?" Hana asks.
"All of the Pokemon here at the center are behaving very strangely," Nurse Joy answers
The three friends become confused. Soon, they arrive inside the medical care unit to see for themselves. Turns out, Nurse Joy is right.
"Just look at Cubone, and Oddish," Nurse Joy worriedly says.
Then places Magikarp on the table, "Even Magikarp is affected, and it's usually full of life."
Then Magikarp flops to the side on the table.
"The magic's disappeared," Diana says.
"Looks like it's ready for the deli counter," Chase mutters.
Nurse Joy turns to see Charmander, "This flame on this Charmander could go out any minute."
"Poor thing," Hana says, worried.
Nurse Joy then holds another Pokemon, "And this one's been in just terrible shape."
The Pokemon is a yellow Pokémon resembling a duck or bipedal platypus. On top of its head are three thick strands of black hair and it has a wide, flat cream-colored beak. Its eyes seem vacant and have tiny pupils. Its legs and tail are stubby, and it has cream-colored webbed feet. There are three claws on each of its hands."
Hana brings out her Pokedex and says, "It's a Psyduck.
Dexter says, "Psyduck, a water Pokemon. Uses mysterious power to perform various attacks."
"Mysterious and yet, psychic attacks," Hana says.
Akira asks, "So what's causing all this?"
"I have no idea," Nurse Joy answers.
Then Diana asks, "How long have they been acting like this?"
"Since three days ago," Nurse Joy answers.
The group becomes surprised.
"Three days ago?" Chase asks.
Hana says, "That's exactly when all those children disappeared. This can't be a coincidence,."
"Possibly. I wonder if maybe there's some kind of connection between the children's disappearance and the Pokemon's lack of energy, "Officer Jenny says.
"Question is, what?" Chase says.
Suddenly, Jenny hears a strange sound and takes out a small device.
"It's picking up something," Jenny says.
"What's that?" Hana asks.
"This is a sleep wave detector," Jenny answers.
"A sleep wave detector? Chase says, confused.
"Lately, I've been picking up sleep waves," Jenny says.
Diana asks, "What are they?"
"Wavelengths that induce sleep," Jenny says.
Joy says, "But I'm pretty sure that there aren't any Pokemon that emit that wavelength in this center."
"Then where?" Hana asks.
"They're coming from outside," Jenny says.
Hana looks around and says, "Strange, I'm sensing a strong and yet, unstable psychic energy around the area. I think the sleep waves are coming from a Pokemon.
Suddenly, Pikachu and Alistair feels tired and flops on their stomachs
"Pikachu," Hana worriedly says.
"Alistair, hey buddy wake up," Akira asks, shaking the little guy.
Chase begins to wonder, "I wonder if those sleep waves and the Pokemon's condition are..
"Yeah! They may be connected!" Jenny says.
"And if those sleep waves are responsible and came from a Pokemon like Hana said then the only way to save the Pokemon is to find the source of the sleep waves," Diana says.
"I agree. The sooner the better," Jenny says.
Meanwhile, turns out Hana and the others aren't the only ones who are searching for the sleep waves. Team Rocket are as well as they use a device.
Jessie says, "I knew it! The sleep waves are coming from this town!"
"Now we can get our wish!" Meowth says with excitement.
James says, "We'll find the source of the waves!"
"And we'll use em to knock out the boss!" Meowth adds.
Jessie says with glee, "Then, while he's fast asleep, we can take a break!"
"While the boss is conked out, I'll take a fishing expedition!" Meowth says.
Soon, Team Rocket starts crying.
"We're always working so hard at being bad!" Jessie says.
Then James says, "Even if we always fail!"
"Maybe we're not so good, but we need a vacation, bad!" Meowth adds in tears.
Then Team Rocket begins to cry some more.
Meanwhile, Hana and her friends are with Officer Jenny to search for the source of the strange waves. And it makes matters worse that both Pikachu, and now Winnie are knocked out. They walk for a while until Jenny comes to a stop. She looks up and gasps.
Then says, "They're coming from this building!"
The group looks to see a very tall building.
"Whoa! It's so tall!" Hana says.
"They seem to be coming from the roof!" Jenny says.
"Let's go!" Akira says.
Everyone hurries to the elevator to ride it all the way to the roof.
Jenny looks at her device, "As we go up, the signal's getting stronger."
Soon, the group reaches the roof and walks to a door. Jenny opens the door and to the gang's shock to see a mansion with a garden on top of the building.
"What's that?" Hana asks, shocked.
Chase exclaims, "A mansion on top of this skyscraper?!"
Jenny looks at her device and says, "It's coming from inside there!"
"Let's go find out," Hana says.
Everyone hurries to the mansion and looks at the door. Hana places her ears at the door to hear voices.
Hana says, There's someone inside. I'm going in."
Akira and Hana possess themselves to charge, "Ready? Set!"
Akira and Hana push the door open, to their surprise they see so many rich people inside and look surprised to see Hana, Akira, and the others walking inside.
"What is this place?" Akira asks.
"What's going on here?" Hana adds.
Hana turns her head to a table to see two Pokemon.
The one on the left is a bipedal Pokémon that resembles a tapir. It has tired-looking eyes, a short trunk above its mouth, and triangular ears with brown interiors. The upper half of its body is yellow and the lower half is brown. A wavy line separates the two halves. It has a round belly and short legs. Its feet are brown, except for its two toes, which are yellow. The bottom of each foot has a small, round, pink pad in the middle of it. There are three fingers on each of its hands.
The second one is a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon that has yellow skin. It has triangular ears with brown interiors, sleepy looking eyes, and a large nose. On its neck, it has a ruff of white fur, five fingers on each hand and holds a pendulum in its left. The pendulum resembles a flat, silver ring.
Just then, the man walks up and asks, "Are you new members?"
"Members?" Diana asks, confused.
Jenny steps forward and says, "We've been monitoring some sleep waves coming from up here."
"Sleep waves?" The man says, confused.
Then realizes and turns his head, "Oh, I know! This Hypno must have been emitting them."
He looks to see the Pokemon holding the pendulum in his hand.
"Wow. A Hypno," Diana says, bringing out her Pokedex.
Dexter says, "Hypno, a hypnosis Pokemon. It carries a pendulum-like device and performs hypnotic attacks."
Hana looks at the Pokemon next to it, "And that's Hypno's pre-evolved form, Drowzee."
Akira brings out his App and Dexter says, "Drowzee, said to be a descendant of the dream-eating tapir. It was the first Pokemon to use a combination attack like Hypnosis and Dream Eater.
The man says, "Yes, that's correct. And our Drowzee finally evolved into a Hypno, three days ago."
The group becomes shocked to hear the statement.
"Three days ago?" Chase says, surprised.
Then Jenny says, "I knew it! That's just when those children vanished and the Pokemon started to lose all their energy."
A purple suited man says, "We've been using the Pokemon instead of using sleeping medicine."
"What do you mean we?" Diana asks.
The man in the blue suit says, "The members of the Pokemon Lovers Club."
"The Pokemon Lovers Club?" Hana says, confused.
The man in the blue suit says, "Precisely. You see, all of our members absolutely adore Pokemon and, well, Hypno has become our favorite Pokemon. Everyone's hard work paid off when Drowzee finally evolved. Living our lives in the city can be very stressful, and all the members suffer from insomnia. So, we've come to rely on Hypno's powers to help us get to sleep at night.
They soon see it for themselves when Hypno uses its pendulum to hypnotize one of the members.
"Uh oh," Hana says.
"Uh oh, what?" Akira asks.
"I think Hypno's sleep waves must have affected all those Pokemon by sapping their energy," Hana says.
Hana then takes Pikachu out of her backpack and holds him in her arms, "Take a look at my Pikachu!
"My Pokemon are like this too," Akira says, showing his
"The same thing happened to all the Pokemon at the Pokemon Center," Diana adds.
The Head Member says, "It must be a.."
"A side effect?" Hana replies.
"Side effect?" Diana asks.
Hana explains, "Hypno's hypnotic powers are usually just used on other Pokemon. Since the wavelength was changed to affect humans, it's creating a side effect for the Pokemon."
The Head Member turns to the two Pokemon, "Somehow we've accidentally caused a terrible situation."
"And if that's true, then the sleep wave must have affected the missing children somehow," Hana says.
Diana walks to Hypno and asks, "Let's see."
Soon, Hypno begins to use its hypnotic powers to hypnotize Diana, and she is immediately under the attack. The next moment, Diana's eyes are half closed and soon stand on her hands and feed.
She cries out, "Pi Pika Pikachu Pikachu Pikachu. Pikachu Pikachu Pikachu."
"Diana, what's wrong?" Akira asks, shocked.
"She… she's acting like a Pikachu now. It must be Hypno's sleep waves," Hana says, shocked.
"We need to do something," Chase says.
Just then, Diana runs off as she continues to cry out, "Pikachu."
"Diana! Where are you going?!" Hana exclaims.
Then the others begin to chase after her. Even the head member follows.
"Diana, come back!" Chase calls out.
Soon, the gang continue to follow Diana who is running to a large park in the city.
"I can't believe there's a park this big in the middle of the city!" Akira says.
"It's like a forest," Hana says.
Everyone continues to follow Diana through the forest as she runs on both her hands and feet like a Pikachu. Soon, they are shocked to see what they find. What they see is children, and all of them are acting like Pokemon. One of them is acting like a Bulbasaur.
Jenny recognizes them, "These are all the missing children!"
They watch as the children continue to act like Pokemon. One of them acts like a Caterpie and Weedle, and a little girl acts like a Gloom.
"So Hypno is responsible for the children going missing the entire time," Hana says.
"I have to call this a case of Pokemonitis," Akira says.
Hana nods her head and says, "With that wavelength, the children who were exposed to Hypno's sleep waves must've been hypnotized and think that they're Pokemon now!
"And it got Diana too. She thinks she's a Pikachu now" Chase says.
They see Diana walking on her arms and legs.
She lets out a yawn, "Cha."
Then lays down on the ground and sleeps like how a Pikachu does, curled up a bit on her side.
Stunned, the Head Member asks, "How on Earth could a thing like this have happened?"
The gang watch is baffled on how the children act like Pokemon. One of them is splashing in a puddle like a Magikarp.
Jenny walks over as she claps her hands, calling out, "Alright! Wake up, everyone! It's time to go home! Come on, stop this! Wake up, now, kids!"
Then takes the splashing girl's hand, "All of your mothers are worried sick!"
The girl takes her hand away and continues to splash around in the water, thinking she's a Magikarp.
"It's just no use!" Jenny says.
"What can we do to fix them?" Chase asks.
Suddenly, the Head Member has an idea, "Say! I know! What if we use Drowzee to cure the children and your friends?"
"Drowzee?" Akira says, confused.
The Head Member explains, "Sleep emits dream wavelengths which, in this case, may counteract Hypno's wavelengths."
Hana understands the idea, "Yeah! That might just work!"
"Let's give it a try!" Akira says.
After getting Diana to come with them. They return to the mansion where the Pokemon Lover's Club and have Diana sit in front of Drowzee
The Head Member says. Drowzee, emit your dream waves and focus them toward this girl."
Drowzee nods his head and begins to perform the dream waves. Soon, Diana falls into a deep sleep.
"Diana," Hana says.
"She must be in a pretty deep trance," Chase says.
Then Akira says, "I hope this works."
Drowzee continues to perform his dream waves on Diana and soon claps his hands together. Soon, Diana wakes up.
Diana looks around and asks, "Hey! Where are we?! What happened?"
"Diana, are you okay?"
"I'm okay, but what happened. I can't remember," Diana says.
"Hypno's sleep waves put you in a trance. Same with all the missing children. You thought you were a Pokemon," Chase says.
"Huh?" Diana says, confused, "Now we've got to use Drowzee's sleep waves on all those kids in the park!"
Hana turns to Drowzee, "Ready to help us."
"Drowzee," (Of course.) Drowzee answers. And Hana picks the Pokemon up in her arms.
"Okay! Now we gotta get those kids back to normal!" Akira says.
Hana and her friends and Officer Jenny hurry outside the mansion to get to the park.
Confused, Diana asks, "You mean I thought I was a Pokemon?
"Yeah. The sleep waves turned you into a Pikachu," Hana says.
Suddenly, three speakers are flying in the sky and heading towards them. The heroes still see what looks like three figures riding on hang gliders.
Chase asks, "What's that?"
"Whatever it is, it's coming this way," Diana says.
"More like trouble," Akira says, squinting his eyes at the figures.
Hana exclaims, "Oh no! Not them!"
Indeed, the three on the hang gliders are none other than Team Rocket, gliding towards them.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble!
James:
Make it double!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:
Jessie!
James:
James!
Jessie:
Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender, now, or prepare to fight!
Meowth:
Meowth! That's flight!
After the motto, Meowth says, "Now, let's swoop down and swipe those hypnosis Pokemon!"
Team Rocket flies over Hana and the others. While Jessie and Meowth land perfectly, James has a bumpy one.
"Nice three point landing," Meowth comments
"Team Rocket is here to take possession of Drowzee and Hypno," Jessie says.
"In your dreams," Hana says.
"Well, we'll just have to see who's dreaming after this!" Jessie says. Then holds a flat object under a cloth.
"If Hypno can put anything to sleep, try.." Jessie says, then removes the cloth to reveal a mirror, "This!"
"A mirror?" Diana says, confused.
Jessie has the mirror facing Hypno and says, "If you have any pride as a hypnosis Pokemon, you'll do it."
"This is known as 'The Team Rocket Mirror Mirror on the wall, who's the sleepiest of them all? dirty trick strategy!'" Meowth says.
James holds the mirror in front of Hypno, "Just don't hypnotize me. Okay, do it."
Hypno decides to perform its hypnotic attack. The attack bounces off the mirror and the Pokemon begins to be hypnotized by its own attack.
"We've got to do something," Diana says.
"here's not much time!" Hana says.
She quickly grabs a potted plant and throws it at the mirror, shattering it pieces. Soon, Hypno wakes up to see the shattering glass.
Jessie grits her teeth in anger, "And we thought so hard to come up with that strategy!"
Jessie and James then throw very long whips. Jessie's tied up Drowzee while James' tie Hypno
"We got em! Now, we'll just fly away with our catch!" Meowth says.
Hana and Akira grab Drowzee and try to pull Drowzee away from Team Rocket.
Hana brings out her Pokeball, "Bulbasaur! Use Razor Leaf!"
Hana tosses her Pokeball and Bulbasaur materializes from its Pokeball. Then performs Razor Lead breaking the ropes. Team Rocket soon falls back at each other.
Akira throws his Pokeball, "Hurricane, go!"
The Pokeball opens to reveal Hurricane, his Braviary.
Akira calls out, "Hurricane, use Whirlwind!
Hurricane performs the attack and begins to glow Team Rocket who are trying to hang on.
Akira calls out, "Give em your best blasts!"
The attack increases so hard that Team Rocket is blown off the roof.
"I suppose this means we blew it again!" Jessie screams.
James screams, "Oh, we blew it again! We blew it sky high!"
Then Meowth says, "And what goes up must always come down."
Team Rocket screams as they are blown away, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
"Another Team Rocket plan foiled," Hana says.
"Come on guys, let's go," Akira says.
"Right," Akira says.
Everyone quickly hurries to the park and Drowzee begins to perform its Dream Waves on all the kids. Soon, the children are fast asleep.
Chase 're all dreaming!
Holding Pikach, Hana says, "Pikachu, too!"
"So are Alistair and Winnie," Akira says, holding the two in his arms.
Drowzee soon claps his hands together waking the children from their sleep, and can't remember what happened.
The child wearing the green shirt asks, "Hey! How did I get into the middle of the park?!"
"Me too! And I should be working on becoming a Pokemon trainer!" The boy with an orange and white stripe says, confused.
A boy wearing a blue fest says, "I wanna be a fireman!"
A little girl with a yellow ribbon on her hair says, "And I'm gonna be a doctor!"
Soon, the child says their farewells and heads home. Soon, Pikachu begins to wake up, and shakes his head.
Pikachu happily says, "Pikachu (Good morning.)
"Pikachu! Sounds like you're back to your old self," Hana says.
Alistair and Winnie wake up from their carrier and happily say looking at Akira, "Arff arff/Pikachu" (Hi daddy.)
"Hey Alistair. Winnie. Glad you see you two awake," Akira says with a smile.
Suddenly, they hear someone happily cry out, "Arnold!"
The group turns their heads to see the woman they meet earlier today.
"It's the mother we meet," Diana says.
Soon, they see the mother hugging her son. They are so happy to see each other again.
"We're glad that the mother is able to find her son," Akira says.
"Yeah," Chase says.
"Now it's time to get to the Pokemon Center to help the Pokemon," Hana says.
They soon reach the Pokemon Center and Drowzee uses its power to put them all to sleep. Then Drowzee claps his hands together and all the Pokemon regain their energy and are high spirited.
"The Pokemon are all back to normal!" Nurse Joy happily says.
"Sometimes, I wonder what the Pokemon dream about," Diana says.
"I'd love to know that too," Hana says.
"Yeah, me too!" Akira says.
They must've been dreaming about getting stronger and evolving," Chase suggests.
"I dream about that sometimes, too," Diana happily says.
"I'm glad that the mystery of the missing children is solved, and the mysterious sleep waves," Hana says.
Suddenly, Nurse Joy lets out a sad sigh.
Chase asks, "What's wrong, Nurse Joy?"
"All of the Pokemon are better, but this one is still holding its head," Nurse Joy says, turning to Psyduck.
"I see. Actually, I have an answer to it too. Apparently, Psyducks always constantly suffer from headaches. I guess it has something to with them being able to perform psychic attacks," Hana says.
Diana exclaims and points to the Pokemon, "You mean this thing always has a headache?!"
"Pretty much," Hana says.
Suddenly, Psyduck jumps off the table and walks to Hana. Hana and Psyduck stare at each other. Just then, Psyduck then leans to Hana's leg and rubs his head against her leg with a smile.
"I think Psyduck is taking a liking to you," Akira says.
"Really?" Hana asks.
"Psy," (Yes.) Psyduck says.
Diana smiles and says, "Hana, I think Psyduck wants to be yours."
Hana turns to Psyduck and kneels to it as Psyduck walks back a little.
"Hey Psyduck, you want to come with me," Hana asks.
Psyduck looks at Hana and then slowly nods his head, "Psy," (Yes.)
Nurse Joy says, "I think Psyduck will be in good care."
Hana brings out her Pokeball and taps Psyduck's head. Then Psyduck goes inside, and the Pokeball clicks in an instant.
Hana smiles at her Pokeball to see the new Pokemon she adds to her group. She then has some of her Pokemon go to Professor Oak so they can rest and relax. Hana and her friends begin to make their way to the next town and continue their adventure.
Meanwhile, after their failed attempt, Team Rocket receives a video call from their Boss.
"Greetings, sir," The two human Team Rocket and one Pokemon answer.
"You have a new assignment regarding that cop, Akira Silver," The boss says.
"Sir," Team Rocket answers.
"Since you've been following those four, your orders are to take any device that the man has and have them sent to HQ," The Boss answers.
"Yes. However, we are unable to capture the man himself along with the twerpette that can talk to Pokemon," Jessie says.
"We will put that one on hold. For now, make sure to take any of his devices so that we may learn about him. Once we accomplish that, you will receive another assignment. This time, failure is not an option," The Boss says.
The Team Rocket group salute, "Yes sir."
The Team Rocket Boss gives them an evil smirk.
As the Journey Continues.
