-End of AN-
"Ava!" Nikolas called out, not wasting a second as he ran through the doors of the castle. He grabbed at his jacket and pulled it off his body quickly, placing it down on the chair as he entered into the main room hoping to find her in it. "Ava?"
A moment later Ava walked into the main room holding her work tablet in her hands looking startled by his eagerness. Weary really. Was this a good kind of urgency, or a bad kind? She couldn't handle any more bad right now.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your work." Nik said, knowing he still would have done so to tell her this. It was too big. But he couldn't just blurt something like that out.
"It's fine." Ava told him as she closed the tablet and folded the case back overtop of it as she walked into the room more. "Just been having to do some work at home because of Avery. Nothing that can't wait if it's important….it sounds important."
"It is." Nikolas breathed out nervously as he took a seat on the couch, motioning for her to join him. He watched her face contort as she tried to figure out just how concerned to be. Honestly he didn't know what her reaction would be. This was huge.
"You're scaring me a bit so can you just tell me." She admitted letting out a dry laugh to hide how concerned she was. She didn't wanna wait. Just wanted it ripped off like a bandaid.
"I'm not trying to scare you,"
"I know." Ava told him sincerely.
"I went to General Hospital today." He told her.
"Oh my god.." Ava said. "Are you sick?"
"No." He shook his head, grabbing her hands and holding them in his. "I'm fine."
"Then why were you at General Hospital? Is your family okay?" Ava asked.
"Yeah." Nikolas said, still unsure how to say it. He figured to just be honest. "I have to tell you something though that you might not like…"
"What?" Ava pushed eagerly, not liking the unknown.
"I know how concerned you are about Avery and I am too. I want her with us. Safe and with you-your her mother- and I know that we have to go to court for that to happen. Sonny is not gonna make it easy and I just wanted to make it easier for us. To make sure I can keep you both safe and together…"
"What does that mean?" Ava asked, confused.
"I was going to change Avery's DNA results to make Sonny her grandparent and not her parent therefore making you the only living parent of Avery and the most likely choice for custody."
"Going to?" Ava asked. "You didn't do it? It's kinda crazy, but Nik I think it's a good idea. I know it's not fair but I-we- have Avery to protect."
"Yeah we do." Nik told her, not wanting her to doubt his commitment to her and Avery.
"Then what happened? Your conscience gets to you?" Ava asked, wondering.
"No. No. I would have done it but…..but I didn't have to."
"Huh?" Ava's face contorted into even more confusion then she had at the beginning of their conversation.
"Ava…..Avery is Morgan's daughter." He said looking her in the eyes, holding his breath for her reaction wanting to be there for her no matter what she needed.
Ava didn't say anything at first, just looked down from where his eyes met hers to her lap. She looked like she was thinking, lost in the words uttered. Then she shook her head, not angrily, but repeatedly.
"No." She said softly more to herself then anyone else. "No, that's not possible."
"Ava…"
"Nikolas!" She exclaimed looking back at him. "Avery got tested and she's not Morgan's daughter."
"The tests show otherwise."
"Then why didn't anyone ever see the tests? They saw the results. I wasn't here but...Nikolas this is just-no. No! It's not possible."
"Ava, we both know it is more than possible. And I wouldn't tell you if that wasn't the truth."
Ava shook her had again, her eyes filling with emotion. "If that's true….then Morgan missed out on time with his daughter, time he will never get to have back or even have in the future. It means my baby girl's Dad is gone. It means that I've been dealing with Sonny and Carly's reign of terror for no reason missing my daughter. That i've been dealing with the worst decision I ever made every day only to find out she wasn't a result of a disgusting lapse in judgement but a result of a loving relationship. That she's been Morgan's all along and everything will change for everyone. Oh my god…"
"Come here." He said, pulling her closer to him as she buried her face in her hands. Every emotion she'd felt over this all was being re-evaluated and mixes of relief and anger and sadness and every emotion imaginable was there. "The most important thing is that we know the truth now and we can use it to keep her safe."
Ava nodded against him. He's right. That's what's most important. But this was a lot.
All she wanted was for her to be able to have her baby safely-which didn't happen and get to raise her which she hardly get to do with Sonny and Carly steamrolling her at every chance. She'll admit she got more than she thought she would- she's alive after all- but even back then she wanted more. She wanted the baby to be Morgan's. Even if they couldn't be together to have their daughter be a symbol of their love. Instead of explaining to her daughter she got pregnant after a one night stand in a crypt she could tell her about her love for Morgan. She wanted that and now she could. She could put Sonny behind her and be free.
"I don't know how the results got switched but they are in the system like that. They must have changed the printed results. Or it was a mistake but…."
"It doesn't matter. It's done now and it'll work in court." Ava said, calming down a bit. "I'm just worried about sorting this all out and about Avery…"
"We'll figure it out." Nik assured her.
"Then we have to go confront Sonny and Carly." Ava told him. "I'm not wasting another second with the situation. We gotta go now."
