Chapter 2

"Sarah do you want to go grab a coffee or something from the local coffee shop?" Lorraine asked Sarah as she came into the kitchen where Sarah was sitting.

"I don't drink coffee and I made plans with Jake," Sarah replied.

"Well you don't need to have a coffee you can have something else and I'm sure Jake won't mind," Lorraine replied.

"Emm," Sarah was thinking about it.

"Please. It's my last day here," Lorraine said trying to convince her to say yes, "and my last change I'll get to spend time with my little sister until I visit again which could be a while away."

"Ok then," Sarah said giving in, "I'll just go tell Jake I can't hang out this afternoon."

After telling Jake that she was going out with Lorraine, Sarah and Lorraine headed off to the coffee shop.

Once they got in there was a big line of people waiting to be served.

Sarah sighed, "Tell me again why I decided to come here."

"Because you want to spend time with your big sister before she goes home," Lorraine smiled.

Eventually they got to the front of the queue and placed their order.

"Ok thanks," Lorraine said as she picked up their tray and went over and sat at the table by the window.

"So how are things in your live going then?" Lorraine asked Sarah.

"Fine," Sarah replied wondering what the point in this conversation was.

"Oh good good so no problems or anything you'd like to talk about?" Lorraine asked.

"Err no," Sarah replied. She could tell Lorraine was trying to get at something.

"So there is nothing which has been causing your strange mood since we got home?" Lorraine said.

"Did mom put you up to this?" Sarah asked. She did think it was kind of funny of Lorraine to ask to go get a coffee because they had never done that kind of stuff before.

"No, I'm just worried about you and I can tell that there is something bothering you," Lorraine said.

"I should have known they would have been some sort of hidden agenda as to why you wanted to go out today," Sarah said.

"No it's not the only reason I do still want to spend time with you before I go home but I just want to know what has been bothering you," Lorraine said.

"It's a long and complicated story," Sarah replied. She did want to tell somebody and thought it might be easier to tell Lorraine because she is older and would have experienced similar situations and she would be home in New York so it wasn't like she would get herself involved and make the situation worse.

"Well come on then. I'm prepared to listen," Lorraine smiled.

"Don't tell anybody though please," Sarah said.

"Of course I won't. I promise," Lorraine replied.

"The thing is I still like Elliot but it's complicated because I wouldn't want to get back together because he hurt me too much," Sarah started.

"That's completely understandable," Lorraine said.

"So I told Jessica that because I thought I could trust her and she was nice and told me I should try moving on and finding somebody else and once I got home from the lake everything would easier because Elliot wouldn't be there," Sarah went on.

"What do you mean you thought you could trust her?" Lorraine interrupted.

"I'm getting their hold on," Sarah replied, "So anyway I told her that and I knew she was really friendly with Elliot now and I asked if there was anything going on and she said there wasn't."

"Ok," Lorraine said following the story.

"And then the night we had the party after we won the Labour Day Cup I was looking for Jessica and I was told she was outside so I looked out the window to see her kissing Elliot," Sarah said looking down at the table.

"Oh my god. Jessica no way," Lorraine was surprised, "I can't believe she would do that after you telling her how you felt about him and even worse she never told you she liked him and then she never told you she kissed him."

"It's probably been going on the whole time behind my back and I went to her and told her how I felt when all along she was with Elliot and liked him and never told me," Sarah said not knowing that when she seen them kissing it was the first time anything had happened between them, "And to think I thought I could trust her." Sarah was starting to become upset.

"Oh Sarah look at me," Lorraine said as she took hold of Sarah's hands and spoke to her, "I know you feel hurt and upset and betrayed and I completely understand but you've just got to try and forget about it. Not let it upset you like it is and not let it ruin your last few days of summer vacation and let it put you in a sad mood when you don't feel like doing anything. I've been there before several times in the past when things have ended badly with boyfriends and once I was really upset and didn't go out for weeks because my boyfriend cheated on me with one of my close friends and once I found out they started to go out probably. I had never felt so betrayed in my life before."

"Did you forgive them?" Sarah asked.

"The truth is no, but it is different for you because Jessica is your sister and I know it's the last thing you want to do just now and I don't expect you to do it just now because it will take time," Lorraine said.

"I know but I forgave Elliot for cheating on me and now he's went and done this to me," Sarah said.

"Look Jessica is family and she more important than boyfriends and in ten years time you'll probably laugh at the fights you'll have had over boys. Me and Nora do. Once there was this boy in her year who I really fancied and she knew and then he asked her out and she said yeah .I was fuming and didn't speak to her for weeks but eventually I forgave her and it's a bit different for you but I loved Nora too much to never speak to her again and it's pretty hard considering we lived together," Lorraine said.

"Thanks Lorraine I'm glad I told you," Sarah smiled.

"If you ever want to speak to me I am just a phone call away remember that," Lorraine said.

"I will," Sarah said.

"Well we should probably get going because I've still got some things to sort out before I go back to New York," Lorraine said.

Sarah and Lorraine arrived back home and it wasn't long until after dinner and Lorraine was getting ready to leave to leave to go back to New York.

There was a knock on her door.

"Come in, Lorraine said.

Tom's head peaked round the door.

"Oh hey dad," Lorraine said.

"Just thought I'd come see how you're getting on," Tom said.

"Oh I'm fine just fixing my hair. Everything is packed now and I'm ready to go," Lorraine replied.

"You know you don't have to go back to New York," Tom said. He hated that she lived so far away and wished she still lived nearby like Nora did.

"I want to go back though dad," Lorraine replied.

"I know it's just I miss you. We all do," Tom said.

"And I miss you all as well but I'm growing up and need to adventure out in this world and learn to stand on my own two feet," Lorraine said. Tom knew what she was saying was right but just couldn't believe how fast his children had grown up and he knew time would fly by and it wouldn't be long until Nigel and Kyle were moving out.

"Are you not taking this with you?" Tom said as he picked up a picture of the whole family that Lorraine had sitting on her bedside cabinet.

"Oh yeah, thanks dad couldn't forget about that," Lorraine smiled, "I already have a few pictures of the family in my apartment but I like this one the best."

"It is a good photo," Tom said. It was a photo taken a couple years back form when they first moved.

"I know it is," Lorraine smiled.

"You promise you'll visit soon though," Tom said.

"Yeah I will, as soon as I get some time off work and I have enough money to come visit," Lorraine replied.

"Well you better go down stairs and say your goodbyes because I need to take you to the airport," Tom said.

"Yeah I'll have to leave in like ten minutes," Lorraine said as she went over to go pick up her case.

"I'll get that for you," Tom said as he picked up Lorraine's case, "Jesus could it weigh anymore."

Lorraine laughed.

As she got down the stairs all her family were waiting to say good bye.

"Lorraine I'm going to miss you," Kim said as she leaped over and hug her sister

"I'll miss you too Kimmy," Lorraine said as she tried to hold back the tears.

"Lorraine please don't go," Nigel and Kyle said.

"I need to for my work," Lorraine answered as she bent down to hug her two youngest brothers.

"Jessica, Henry come here," Lorraine said she hugged them both, "Now Henry you're the oldest again so keep this lot in track."

"Will do," Henry laughed.

"I'm really going to miss you," Sarah said.

"Me too," Mike said.

"I'll miss you as well," Lorraine said as she hugged them both, "Now don't let this whole situation put you down," She whispered in Sarah's ear.

"I'll try and not," Sarah replied.

"Jake," Lorraine said as he was the only one she hadn't said goodbye too yet.

"I'm really going to miss having you around," Jake said as he hugged Lorraine.

"Make sure Sarah is ok and look out for her and be there for her when she needs you," Lorraine said to him.

"I will," Jake replied.

"Bye mom," Lorraine said as she hugged her mom tightly.

"Bye Lorraine and I love you," Kate replied.

"I love you too mom," Lorraine said.

"Well come on then Lorraine I need to get you to the airport," Tom said.

"Ok," Lorraine said as she broke away from her hug with her mom.

"Bye Lorraine," Sarah said.

"Bye everyone I'll miss you all," Lorraine said trying not to get upset about leaving.

"Bye."

Tom and Lorraine left the house and got in to the car, " Oh Nora just text me she said she's going to meet us at the airport to say bye," Tom said.

"Oh that's good then," Lorraine replied.

Kate and all the kids came out to wave goodbye to Lorraine.

Tom started the car and started to drive away, "I'm going to miss you all," Lorraine said as she opened the car window and stuck her head out as they drove away.
