Meredith was still trying to wrap her head around it, the fact that her life had once again changed overnight. She was standing in front of the mirror that sat in her bedroom, her shirt hiked to just below her breast as she once again ran her hand over her stomach.

"Still flat," she muttered. There was no sign of what was growing inside of her. "How the hell am I pregnant?" She asked no one. She knew how she had gotten pregnant, that wasn't rocket science. But why now? After all these years of trying to get pregnant and it finally happened. She just wished Derek was still alive to enjoy it with her.

"Not again," she moaned, placing her hand back against her stomach as she bolted to the bathroom. She pulled her hair back as she fell in front of the toilet bowl, depositing whatever was left in her stomach into the toilet.

Her breathing was heavy as she leaned back away from the toilet, gripping the side of the bowl with both her hands.

"This really sucks," she griped. She sighed as she stood up, grabbing a towel off the rack to wipe her face with before heading back to her room to change clothes.

She stepped off the elevator, a box of saltines in her hand. She pulled one out of the box, munching on it as she made her way to the lounge.

"Saltines for breakfast?" April said as she was getting dressed. Meredith placed the box on her top shelf before grabbing her scrub cap.

"Yeah, just have a little bit of an upset stomach." Meredith whispered.

"Yeah, morning sickness will do that to you." April smirked.

Meredith stopped, looking at the red head. "What? I'm not pregnant."

"Whatever you say, Meredith, but I know when I was pregnant with Samuel, saltines were my best friend."

Meredith brushed off the comment, closing her locker before heading out.

"Hey," Meredith said with a smile, seeing Alex.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Alex asked.

"Well, saltines are my best friend and morning sickness sucks." Meredith said sadly.

"Get past the first trimester and it should get better. What are you doing today?"

"Amelia is doing a craniotomy and asked me to scrub in." Meredith said with a forced smile.

"Oh, so she's finally talking to you?" Alex questioned.

"Nope but no one else wanted to be on her service." Meredith laughed.

She was standing next to Amelia, trying to hold back the bile in her throat. Normally, staring into a brain didn't phase her but right now it made her stomach churn.

"Are you alright there, Dr. Grey?" Amelia asked, noticing Meredith was turning pale.

"Um, yeah I'll be alright." Meredith muttered, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth. Each passing minute the urge to vomit became overwhelming. Meredith backed up until she felt a chair behind her, plopping down as the room was spinning.

"Dr. Grey, are you sure you're alright?" Amelia asked once again. She might not have liked Meredith but she was family and she was concerned.

"Yeah, I, uh, gotta go." Meredith muttered, praying she would make it out of the room before her secret was revealed in front of everyone. Slowly she stood up, grabbing onto the tray cart as she tried to regain her footing. She barely made it out of the room before she spilled the contents of her stomach onto the floor. She sunk to the floor, dry heaving.

"Damnit," she mumbled, gently rubbing her stomach as she stared at the mess in front of her. Her head was spinning as she tried to stand up, only to fall back down. She felt the pain from hitting her head against the wall as darkness took over.

She started to come to, the brightness of the room bothering her. She looked down, noticing the I.V. that was placed in her arm and she quickly came to the conclusion that she was in a hospital bed.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" She heard. She slowly turned her head, seeing Alex. She smiled softly.

"Better, I think." She replied. "What happened?"

"Amelia found you," Alex started. "Why didn't you tell me that you weren't feeling good?"

"I felt fine until I looked at the patients brain and then all of the sudden I felt sick to my stomach. I ended up throwing up as soon as I left the room."

"Trust me, that was clear." Alex laughed softly. "When was the last time you ate?" Alex asked, concerned.

"I had a few crackers this morning." Meredith whispered.

"Crackers? That's it?" Alex said incredulously. "Mer, you know you gotta eat."

"I haven't been able to keep anything down, Alex. Everything I eat just comes right back up." Meredith cried. "I didn't mean for this to happen."

"Hey, I know you didn't, Mer. It's gonna be okay." Alex soothed.

"Does everyone know now?" Meredith whispered.

"People are getting suspicious but I covered for you and said you were coming down with the flu and I took over as your doctor today." Alex smiled. "I wrote you a prescription for something that should help with the morning sickness and you're on your second bolus of fluids."

"Is the baby okay?" Meredith asked, dreading the answer.

"Yes, everything seems okay so far. Bailey has ordered you take a couple days off." Alex said. Meredith wrinkled her nose at the thought of a couple days off. She was already going to be taking a lot of time off when she had the baby so she wanted to work as much as she could now. She planned to work until her water broke.

"I'm trying, Alex." Meredith suddenly whispered. Alex sighed, taking her had into his.

"I know, Mer. I know you are."
