This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
"Grey! Thirty-five year old male, came in unconscious after a seizure. Penny's your intern on this one."
"Got it." Meredith said, grabbing the clipboard off the desk. They worked for a few minutes, doing the patients vitals. "Okay," Meredith said, putting her stethoscope back around her neck. "Penny, go and grab some lorazepam from the pharmacy in case he has another seizure."
"Got it." Penny said, leaving the room.
Meredith turned away from the bed, bending down to rummage through some drawers in search of an I.V. kit. "Where is it?" Meredith whispered. She had failed to notice that the patient had gotten out of bed.
"Sir, get back in bed." She ordered, turning around. She had started to get up, caught off guard when a blow was delivered to her head. She fell back against the medical cart, dazed for a second. She didn't have time to react before she was being pulled up by her shirt. She felt as her body hit the wall, sliding down. Her head throbbing as she reached up, drawing her hand back as she looked at the blood that covered it.
Once again she tried to get up. "Please, stop," she pleaded to no avail. She had barely managed to get to her knees before another blow was delivered, this time to her ribs. A blow so hard that she swore she could feel the rib break.
She fell to the floor, coughing a hard, raspy cough as she felt something in her throat, quickly she spit on the floor. It was blood. She was trying to grab onto a cart to pull herself up once again. Her breathing was harsh as every time she inhaled, it felt like her lungs were on fire, a piercing pain traveling throughout her chest.
Meanwhile--
"Blake! Some help over here!" Bailey shouted from across the room. Penny ran over to Bailey who was trying to restrain a patient.
"Sir, I need you to calm down." Penny said, looking into the man's eyes, trying to make eye contact. She gently grabbed his arms, pushing the man back into the bed, holding him down.
"Push some Ativan, that should calm him down for a while." Bailey ordered. She grabbed the needle off the table, injecting it into the young man. Penny breathed a sigh of relief as the drug took effect.
"Wow." Penny breathed.
"Thanks for your help. You did good." Bailey said.
"No problem, looked like you needed the help." Penny smiled.
"Someone help," Meredith whispered. She was terrified, for not only herself but also for the tiny person she was carrying. She closed her eyes, unable to speak or move as she slid back down to the floor. She laid there, taking the blows being delivered to her face.
As much as she possibly could, she rolled over onto her stomach to protect it.
Meanwhile...
Alex looked at his pager as he stuffed another piece of bread into his mouth. Jo sighed.
"Why do you keep looking at that?" Jo asked, clearly annoyed.
"Meredith isn't answering her pages." Alex said.
"Seriously, Alex? Can we go five minutes without talking about her?" Jo snapped.
"What is your problem, Jo?" Alex shouted.
"My problem is that you have been hanging out with her way too much! I hardly see you anymore. I'm tired of it."
"Look, she was supposed to meet me for a consult and I've been paging her for the past fifteen minutes. I'm sorry that I'm being a supportive friend and trying to be there for her. She lost her husband and --" Alex trailed off, knowing he was about to spill the secret.
"And what, Alex?" Jo asked.
"Nothing." Alex snapped, starting to walk away but Jo grabbed his arm.
"What, Alex? Are you having an affair? Is that why you've been spending so much time with her?" Jo shouted.
"What?" Alex said, incredulously. "No, I am not having an affair with my best friend. She needs someone in her corner, Jo. She lost her damn husband and she needs all the support she can get right now."
"I don't believe you." Jo whispered.
"Wow, just...wow." Alex said as he grabbed his pager out of his pocket and headed back into the hospital.
She couldn't breathe, every breath was a struggle and she tried to stay conscious. She closed her eyes as her hair was pulled and she was sent sliding into the trauma cart on the other side of the room. Tears were falling freely down her cheeks as the room was spinning. She caught sight of the blood that was spattered all around the room.
"Please...please stop," she whispered, praying to God someone would walk in soon and stop the attack. Her and her baby's life depended on it.
"My baby," she whispered as she closed her eyes, giving into unconsciousness.
Penny was finally heading down to the pharmacy. She walked up to the counter, brushing her hair out of her face.
"Hi, I need some lorazepam." She requested, smiling.
"We don't have any in stock but I can check in the back for you." The pharmacist smiled.
"Thank you." Penny smiled. She turned around leaning against the counter, tapping her foot.
"Here you go, Doctor." The pharmacist smiled, handing the bag over to Penny. Penny smiled at her, whispered a thank you before heading back to the room where Meredith and the patient were. She opened the door, dropping the bag as her eyes widened.
"What the hell?" She whispered before she ran out of the room. "I need some help in here, right now!"
