Chapter 7

Jessica and Mike had just finished their film and Sarah had just arrived home.

"You have fun?" Jessica asked.

"Yeah it was ok," Sarah replied, "Where's Jake I want to speak to him?"

"Oh he's in his room, he's just home, he was out with Elliot," Jessica said.

"I still find that strange to hear, out with Elliot, you know what I mean?" Sarah said.

"Yeah, it's total weird them living across the street," Mike said.

Tom walked in through the front door, "Hey kids," he said.

"Hey dad,"

"You kids up for going out for a family meal tonight I have vouchers for this place up town?" Tom asked.

"Yeah sounds cool to me," Sarah said.

"Me too," Mike smiled.

"Ok then well you all better go get ready then I want to leave soon so tell everyone else," Tom said.

Jessica went up stairs and told Henry and Kim that what was happening tonight and then went and sat in her room.

She really was wanting to finish her conversation with Elliot but didn't see when they would spend time just the two of them to finish it.

Her face lit up as an idea come to her mind. She thought it would be good idea if she just told her mom she wasn't feeling well, and then just stayed home and then she could over to the Murtaugh's and ask if Elliot was in, and that way none of her family could see her because they'd all be out.

Jessica went to go speak to her mom to complete the first part of her plan.

"Mom, I don't feel very well all of a sudden," Jessica said as she tried her best to look ill.

"Aw what's wrong honey?" Kate asked as she felt Jessica's forehead for a tempature.

"I dunno I just feel quite sick and I have a slight headache, I think I just need to go lie down in my bed the rest of the night," Jessica said.

"Aw but we're suppose to be eating out tonight," Kate said.

"Oh yeah," Jessica said pretending to forget, "you can all go. I'll be fine honestly the peace and quite will do me the world of good anyway," Jessica said.

"Well ok but only if you're sure, but call me if you have any problems," Kate said, as she fell for Jessica's lie.

"Ok I will," Jessica said and she turned around and smiled as her plan began to work.

She went to her bed pretending to be ill until she heard the car drive away and she got up and looked out the window just to check that they'd gone.

She quickly got up out her bed and got changed out of her pyjamas. She searched for her house key in her bag and then locked the door and walked across the street to the Murtaugh's. She knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.

Kenneth answered, "Hi Jessica," he said.

"Hi is Elliot in?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'll go get him," Kenneth said, "Elliot it's for you," he shouted.

Jessica was nervous as for what Elliot was going to say or would he even speak to her at all.

A few seconds later Elliot came to the door.

"Oh it's you," He said looking surprised.

"Yeah hi to you too," Jessica said, "I wanted to speak to you because we never got to finish our conversation earlier."

"Ok," Elliot said. Jessica could already tell this was going to be difficult, Elliot still seemed to be in this funny mood and didn't seem like he wanted to talk.

"Come over to my place everyone is away out for a meal," Jessica said.

"Why aren't you there too?" Elliot asked.

"I pretended I was ill so I could come speak to you," Jessica said.

"Ok you must really want to speak to me then," Elliot replied, he realised he better go over then and speak to her, since she had gone to all this bother.

"Yup," Jessica said.

They crossed the street to the Baker's house and went inside and sat in the living room.

"Elliot can you please just tell me why you've been ignoring me?" Jessica started the conversation off and quickly getting to the point.

"I haven't," Elliot said.

"How can you say you haven't. You have!" Jessica said as she began to get annoyed. She really just wanted him to admit he had and explain why.

"Well I don't know it's just complicated, that's all," He said.

"Well go on explain," Jessica said. She couldn't understand how ignoring someone could be complicated, when they last time she seen him just over a week ago everything was fine.

"I would rather not, but I'm really am sorry for ignoring you and for acting like this it's just," Elliot stopped.

"Go on," Jessica said. She felt as if she was finally getting somewhere and she might actually find out why she was being ignored.

"I can't," he said. Elliot was worried that Jessica would be looking for them to be more than just friends and right now that wasn't what he was wanting ,and he didn't want to hurt Sarah anymore either he had put her through enough already.

"Why not?" Jessica said.

"I would just rather keep it to myself that's all," Elliot said.

"Please just tell me," Jessica said, "We were like best friends at the lake and now you move here and I was looking forward to having you around and then you just ignore me, and now I'm even more confused, because earlier you were being horrible to me, and now you are being more yourself but your hiding something from me."

"Alright here I'll tell you," Elliot said, "It's just I know when you left the lake we like kissed and that, but I was worried about moving here and seeing you because of that, because I do really like you Jessica," Elliot paused and took a breath, "But I would rather we stayed friends because I don't want to ruin our friendship. Our friendship means more to me than starting a relationship that might not even work and then ruin our friendship and I just don't want to take that risk."

Jessica's heart sunk. She didn't speak as she took in what he had said. After him ignoring her, she could tell that this was probably going to happen. She tried her best to look cool about it and not look upset.

"Look I completely understand," Jessica said even though she was broken to hear those words, because she has high hopes of a relationship and she did really like him.

"I was scared to tell you because I thought you might want to be more than friends, and I didn't want to hurt you and I was scared to be honest, scared to tell you in case you were annoyed with me or something, and if you started to speak to me speak about a relationship, then I would have to have told you so I avoided you," Elliot said, "So there you have it the truth."

Jessica's eyes were full of sadness but she tried her best to hide it from Elliot. Her dreams of her and Elliot had all come crashing down and the reality was beginning to sink in.

"So can we just go on as friends and the way things were at the lake?" Elliot asked.

"Yeah sure," Jessica said with huge fake smile. She really wanted to run away up to her room and cry but she couldn't. Right now she was trying to hold back her tears and put on a brave face.

"But it will probably be harder for us to hang out because we're only across the street and everyone will notice us meeting up," Elliot said.

"What is the problem of us meeting up though if we're just friends?" Jessica asked.

"Well we were just friends at the lake first of all and we never use to tell anyone we were meeting up, because well you know Sarah will think we're more than friends and we don't want to hurt her," Elliot said.

"Yeah your right, the last thing I need is to upset Sarah and her hate me," Jessica said.

"Well I should probably get going," Elliot said as he stood up.

"Can you not stay longer? They won't be home for another two hours anyway," Jessica said. She loved Elliot's company and she had missed out on the chance of a family meal so she at least wanted to make it worth it.

"Em," Elliot began to say.

"I did miss out on a meal out to speak to you," Jessica said trying to convince him to stay.

"Yeah of course I will stay," Elliot said changing his mind.

Jessica smiled as Elliot agreed to stay.

"Plus I think we need a catch up anyway not spoken in a good few days," Elliot said, "So how has Sarah been?" Elliot asked.

"Fine," Jessica replied.

"No like how is she about us moving in across the street?" Elliot asked.

"Oh, well she hasn't really said anything about so she seems ok but I'm not sure to be honest," Jessica replied.

"That's good then I just got the impression she wanted me out of her life and then we go move in across the street," Elliot said.

"Well she has been very quiet about it so I can honestly say I have no idea of she feels about it, and I don't think anyone knows apart from her, so if you want to know you better ask her yourself," Jessica said.

"I think I might just leave it because I really doubt she'll tell me how she is feeling about it," Elliot said.

"Yeah you're probably right there," Jessica said. The conversation died out between them and they sat in silence, both lost in their own thoughts.

"What you thinking about?" Jessica asked.

"Huh?" Elliot said.

"What you thinking about?" Jessica asked again.

"Oh nothing," he replied.

"You so were," Jessica said.

"It's nothing important just stuff," Elliot said.

"What kind of stuff?" Jessica asked.

"Well I was just thinking about life and stuff and well I think it has just really sunk in how different my life is, because like on Monday I'm starting a new school and a part from you lot I don't know nobody there. All my friends back home and that aren't going to be there and it just really sunk it that my life is going to be so different now," Elliot said.

"You'll be ok everyone will love you at school and it won't take you long to make friends, and well you'll always have me," Jessica smiled. She knew that probably all the girls would love him anyway, especially with his good looks and sweet charm.

"Aw thanks Jess that's so sweet," Elliot said as he opened his arms up to hug her.

Jessica leant forward and hugged Elliot and held him tight; she felt safe and leant her heads against her shoulder. She felt his body heat, heating up her body. Elliot also held Jessica tight and they both stayed silent enjoying the moment.

The sound of a car driving up the driveway of the house could be heard and car door's slamming soon followed and people talking could be heard.

"Oh crap," Jessica said as she jumped up, "They're home, we lost track of time."

"Great!" Elliot said, "What are we going to do?"

"Upstairs run!" Jessica said as they ran upstairs to her room.

"Right hide under my bed and I'll go in my bed and act ill, but don't speak because my mom will come in and check on me," Jessica said as she jumped into her bed and Elliot crawled under.

"Oh your mom better not see me because this looks total wrong me hiding under your bed," Elliot said.

"Oh god, imagine what she'd think," Jessica laughed.

"I don't think I'd ever be allowed in your house again," Elliot giggled.

"Ok shut up someone's coming up the stairs," Jessica said.

Kate and Tom could be heard talking outside, "I'll just go check on Jessica," Kate said.

She knocked on the door before coming in.

"Jessica, how you doing?" she asked.

"A little better I think if I just go to sleep I'll be fine," Jessica said.

"Ok I'll leave you then," Kate smiled before she turned around to leave.

Elliot sneezed really loudly. Kate quickly turned around.

"Bless me," Jessica said.

"That was a very manly sounding sneeze you must be quite ill then," Kate laughed.

"Yeah," Jessica giggled.

Kate left the room, "Oh my god," Jessica said, "Could you have sneezed at a worst time?"

"So sorry about that but a good cover," Elliot replied.

"At least she bought it," Jessica said.

"Yeah but how am I going to get out of here?" Elliot said.

"I've not quite thought that one through," Jessica said, "Well we could wait until everyone is asleep and then sneak down to the front door."

"Yeah one problem my dad and Serena already don't know where I am, and I told them I'd be home by half ten and it's half nine now. So we got an hour to think or something because if I'm late they'll go mad not to mention they'll probably start looking for me if I'm not home by eleven," Elliot replied, "So yeah what time does everyone go to bed at?"

"I dunno they might stay up for ages since we got no school," Jessica replied.

"How about the window?" Elliot asked.

"Oh lets go look out and see," Jessica said as she got up out of bed and Elliot crawled from underneath.

"You better put a chair in front of your door or something so no one can get in," Elliot said. Jessica took the chair form over beside her dressing table and put it on two legs and lent it beside the door so no one could get in.

They looked out the window and thought of ways to get down, "Right I know Mike has stuff in his room you could use to repel down, but I don't know how to work it," Jessica said.

"Yeah but look your window is right above your living room window, so they would see me and if not I would quite easily be seen from my house and someone could easily see me," Elliot said.

"This is just great," Jessica said, "what are we going to do?"

Elliot started to think, "I could say I was sleeping over with Jake."

"Yeah but you'd need your stuff and what if you're dad said something to my mom or dad," Jessica said.

"Yeah you're right," Elliot said.

"We could always phone someone and see if they'd help us," Jessica suggested.

"Like who?" Elliot asked.

"I' don't know someone from your family?" Jessica said.

"The only one who would keep quite would be Kenneth but what would he do?" Elliot said.

"Look call him he's worth a shot," Jessica suggested.

"Alright," Elliot said as he dialled Kenneth's number on his phone. "Kenneth I need your help," Elliot said as he began to explain his situation.

"What's he saying?" Jessica asked.

"He said he'll try and convince my dad to invite your mom and dad round for a drink, and to take the kids and then well I could sneak out that way," Elliot said.

"Ok I hope it works" Jessica said.

"Me too," Elliot agreed, "He'll phone me back and let me know."

Back over at the Murtaugh's Kenneth was thinking on how he was going to get his dad to invite the Baker's over.

"Dad the new 3D TV you bought today is so cool," Kenneth said.

"I know it is," Jimmy replied.

"Tom Baker thought your old one was cool and his jaw like dropped to the floor when he seen it. Imagine what he'd be like when he sees this one," Kenneth said.

"Yeah he'd be so jealous," Jimmy replied, "His face would be a picture!"

"Dad, I think you should invite the Baker's over now so we can see Tom's face," Kenneth suggested.

"I don't know Kenneth isn't it a bit last minute and it is getting late," Jimmy replied.

Kenneth thought for second how this was going to work, "Come on I really want to see Tom's face when he sees it".

"Ok you know what I might invite him round, I'll give him a call and see what he says," Jimmy replied.

"I'll get the camera ready," Kenneth laughed.

"And you know son you really do remind me of a little version of myself, keep up the good work!"

Kenneth smiled, "I will".

The phone rang over at the Baker's and it was Jimmy inviting them over. It took a bit of convincing but eventually Jimmy convinced Tom to come over.

"Yes," Elliot said as he read his text message, "Kenneth convinced dad and your dad agreed to go over."

"Ok well quick hid under my bed again because my mum will be back any second to tell me their going over," Jessica said as she moved her chair away from the door and hurried back to bed and switched of the light.

"I'll try not sneeze this time," Elliot smirked.

"You better not," Jessica replied.

Jessica was right Kate did come in to say that they were all going over to the Murtaugh's but wouldn't be long.

"Ok let's go look out the window to make sure they all leave," Jessica said.

"Right," Elliot said as he walked over to look out the window.

"Ok they're all there," Jessica said.

"Good now I can go," Elliot said.

"Yeah," Jessica smiled.

"I'm pretty sure we'll never forget this night," Elliot said.

"No we won't," Jessica laughed.

"And thanks Jess for everything and again I'm so sorry for the way I acted."

"Oh it's fine and don't worry about it I understand," Jessica said. She was really happy to hear Elliot apologize, and even more happy that he wasn't ignoring her even though she was upset to hear he didn't want a relationship.

Elliot quickly hugged Jessica again.

"Right let's get going before they all get home," Jessica said.

They walked down the stairs and seen Kyle walking in through the front door.

"Kyle what are you doing back?" Jessica asked.

"I forgot something that's all," he replied, "Aren't you suppose to be ill?

"I am just need a drink of water," Jessica replied.

"And why is Elliot here?" Kyle asked.

"Oh he was just at the door a few seconds ago asking if Jake was here and I said I think he had gone, but we just went and checked his room first because Elliot didn't know we were all going over to his, because he had just been away a walk you see," Jessica said.

"Ok," Kyle said really confused looking.

"But don't mention this to anyone now will you?" Elliot asked.

"Why?" Kyle asked looking even more confussed.

"Because it's just my dad didn't know I was away a walk and he thinks I was out with some people I met, but that's not true because you're the only people I know round here but I lied because I wanted out the house," Elliot made up.

"Ok then I won't say anything," Kyle said.

"Thanks dude," Elliot said, "Look I'll walk over with you."

"Okay," Kyle replied.

"Bye Jess," Elliot said.

"Bye," she replied.
