Chapter 12
School had finished and Sarah had rushed home to go get ready for her date with Ethan. She was not usually one to get nervous but for some reason she was tonight. It was most likely because this was her first date since she had been with Elliot; she was happy to finally be moving on but also scared of getting hurt because she didn't want to go through the hurt that she went through with Elliot.
Jessica walked into Sarah's room, "Hey how you doing? Looking forward to your date?" She smiled.
"I'm fine you? And yeah I suppose," Sarah replied. She tried her best to try and forget about what she saw at the lake between Jessica and Elliot, but every time she saw one of their faces the image just came back straight into her head.
"I'm good, there was something I wanted to speak to you about, it's quite silly to be honest," Jessica said.
"Yeah what is it?" Sarah asked.
"Well for this paired biology project thing I was paired with Ryan Scott," Jessica began.
"Really? He is really hot!" Sarah exclaimed.
"I know and that's the thing like I know Kim has a crush on him, but I just feel really nervous around him, and it's not like I fancy him," Jessica said, "he just makes me not feel myself and go all shy, and I know you're full of confidence and never get shy so I don't know how to stop it".
"I don't really know how I am so confident, I suppose it's just the way I am, but there is no need to feel nervous around him it's not like you're on a date or nothing so it should be cool, just give yourself time to come out your shell with him, I'm sure once you've spent a little bit of time with him you'll be fine but yeah it must be his hotness which is making you like this," Sarah giggled.
"Yeah I know it must be," Jessica laughed, "I think it's just because he's really confident about himself and a full of himself, that it makes me feel a little shy around him".
"Yeah I get what you're saying, but I'm sure after spending ten minutes together you'll feel fine," Sarah smiled.
Jessica loved being able to go to Sarah for advice, as she was always there for her but she couldn't help but feel so guilty about Elliot. Although nothing serious was happening between her and Elliot she still really liked him, and she believed he still liked her, but felt too bad to start a relationship because she was Sarah's sister.
"Well good luck for your date and thanks," Jessica smiled as she left the room.
"No problem and good luck with your studying," Sarah replied.
Jessica left the house to go meet Ryan by the school. She bumped into Elliot as she was walking down.
"Where are you off too?" Elliot asked.
"Away to go meet Ryan," Jessica replied, deliberately not saying it was only for studying to see how Elliot reacted.
"Who is he and why you meeting him?" Elliot said looking worried. Jessica knew by his reaction that he must still have feelings for her or else he wouldn't have been that bothered about who Ryan was.
"Don't worry we have just been paired together for a biology project that we have to do in our own time," Jessica replied.
"Oh that's ok then," Elliot said.
"You seemed a little worried there that I was meeting up with another boy," Jessica stated.
"Well I would be jealous if I am going to be honest," Elliot replied.
Jessica blushed and Elliot smiled back at her, "Well I better go because I'm supposed to be meeting him right now so I'm kind of running late now," Jessica said as she continued her walk on towards the school.
The whole way there she couldn't stop smiling at the fact that Elliot said he would be jealous, that obviously had to mean something you wouldn't get jealous if you didn't like the person, Jessica kept telling herself. As Jessica got closer to the schools he could see Ryan leaning against the wall next to the school gates.
"Hey," She said as she approached him.
"About time," Ryan said as he took his ear phones out from his ear and turned his IPod off, "You always this late?"
"No not usually, just bumped into a friend while I was walking down and started talking to him," Jessica replied.
Most of the walk home continued with general conversation and they started to get to know each other a bit more. Jessica's opinion on Ryan still was pretty much the same after the ten minute conversation they had walking back to the Baker's house and that was that he was self centred and loved himself but she could kind of see a nice side of him too.
"Well here is my house," Jessica said as they walked up towards it.
"It's quite big," Ryan said as he looked up at it.
"Well it doesn't feel that big when there is like twelve kids living in it," Jessica replied.
"Twelve?" Ryan said looking confused.
"Yeah I have eleven siblings did you not know that? Like everyone knows that," Jessica was quite surprised that Ryan didn't know she had eleven siblings as far as she was aware everyone knew.
"No I never knew that," Ryan answered.
"Well only nine of us live here now the older ones have moved out, so how much brothers and sisters did you think I had then?" Jessica asked.
"Just your twin," Ryan replied.
"Oh well we better go in and yeah it can be quite a crazy house considering there is a lot of us," Jessica laughed.
"I bet," Ryan replied as he followed Jessica into her house.
"I'll take your jacket and just leave your shoes by the door," Jessica said as she took his jacket and hung it up in the cupboard.
"Hiya," Kate said as she came down the stairs with a basket full of washing.
"Hey Mrs Baker," Ryan replied.
Jessica knew that any second now Kim would be here to say something since Ryan was here and she was right Kim came rushing in from the living room.
"Hey Jess do you happen to have my pink jumper by any chance?" Kim said even though she knew for a fact Jessica didn't have it, but it gave her an excuse to come through and talk while Ryan was there.
"No I don't have it," Jessica replied, she knew that Kim was only saying that for a reason to come through.
"Oh hiya Ryan," Kim said trying to play it cool.
"Hey," Ryan replied, "So we going to started working on this project then Jessica," he asked.
"Yeah sure we can up to my room where it's quieter," Jessica said as she led him upstairs.
Kim couldn't help but be jealous that Jessica was sitting upstairs with Ryan Scott, she really wished that it was her instead but there wasn't anything she could do to change that.
Jessica pulled out a few books form under her bed and she and Ryan began working on them. Jessica was actually quite surprised by the fact that Ryan actually put in an effort and wasn't leaving her to do all the work like she had expected.
"Jess!" Jake shouted from the hallway, "Could you please help me this homework I really don't get it?"
Jessica sighed, "What is it?"
"Emm some English thing," Jake said as he walked into her room, "Oh," Jake said as he noticed Ryan was there.
"Jake I never knew you were Jessica's brother," Ryan said.
"Yeah I am and what are you doing here?" Jake asked looking puzzled.
"We've been paired together for a biology thing," Jessica replied, "Can I help you with your homework later or can you not ask Kim?"
"Yeah I'll ask Kim," Jake replied before he left the room.
"I had no clue Jake Baker was your brother," Ryan said.
"Yeah well he is," Jessica replied.
"That must mean that Sarah Bakers is your sister too then?" he asked.
"Yup she sure is," Jessica replied.
"Jake and Sarah are pretty cool, and isn't he older than you and asking for your help on homework you must be smarter than I thought," Ryan said.
"Yeah he is older and I didn't know you and Jake and Sarah spoke," Jessica replied.
"Well not that much but we do speak," Ryan replied. They continued with their studying but Ryan kept get off subject every few minutes and asking questions about Jessica.
"Are you ever going to stop asking questions about me?" Jessica smiled.
"No harm in trying to get to you better, that's what you do on a first date and as this is our first study date it's kind of the same," Ryan said, "And well I don't have much experience about study dates but plenty about dates and I always try to get to know my date better".
Jessica smiled back at him.
"What?" Ryan said.
"I've never actually had someone compare a study date to an actual date," Jessica smirked.
"Well in away it's pretty similar I don't usually spend time with a girl one on one unless we're on a date," Ryan replied. Jessica was confused as to what he was trying to say, whether he was just comparing it to a date or whether he was actually classing this as a date, or what exactly he was trying to say.
"Yeah but how many dates you been too that consists of reading books and taking notes?" Jessica asked.
"Well none," Ryan replied.
"Yeah that's what I thought," Jessica said, before they continued to get on with their studying.
The time passed and it eight o'clock and Ryan was leaving.
"What's your number Jess?" he asked as he out his jacket on, "You know so I can text you to arrange another study date".
Jessica took his phone and saved her number in it.
"Yeah so I guess I'll see you Monday then," Ryan said.
"Yeah" Jessica agreed.
"Or well unless you want to study over the weekend, it's up to you?" Ryan suggested.
"I don't know it depends what I'm doing," Jessica replied.
"Well text me then," Ryan said as he opened the front door to leave.
"Or you could text me because you have my number and I don't have your number," Jessica smiled.
"Well it's looks like I'll be texting you then, see you," Ryan said as he left the house.
"Bye," Jessica smiled before shutting the door behind.
Jessica went back up to her room with her opinion of Ryan completely changed from it was earlier today. He wasn't in love with himself the way she thought he was and he was nothing like as self centred as she though he was either. If anything he was just confident and he was defiantly a flirt.
Kim came bursting into Jessica's room, "Ever heard of knocking?" Jessica said moodily.
"So what was it like having Ryan round to study with?" Kim said completely ignoring Jessica asking about knocking.
"Yeah it was fine," Jessica smiled, she really couldn't be bothered listening to Kim go on about Ryan.
"So what is he like then?" Kim asked.
"Well to be honest he isn't as self centred as I first thought he was he is actually quite nice but he is really confident and a really big flirt," Jessica replied, she knew Kim wasn't going to shut up about it so she thought she may as well tell her about her study date.
"Oh my god no way, he was flirting with you! I am so jealous," Kim gasped.
"Yeah it was really weird though, I don't know how to describe it but it was," Jessica replied. They continued to talk about Ryan and about things for about another hour. It had actually been a while since they had properly sat down and spoke like this, the last time was probably at the lake.
"So then" Kim said as she moved onto a new subject, "Elliot!" she said leaving it at that. It had been a while since she had spoke about Elliot to Kim and she hadn't even told Kim that she kissed him at the lake.
"Yeah what about him?" Jessica said as she bit her lip.
"Well we've not had a conversation about him in ages which is either a good thing because nothing had happened between you two since we last spoke or it's a bad thing because things have happened and you haven't told me so which of the two it is?" Kim asked.
"Kim please do we have to talk about him I would rather we didn't," Jessica replied.
"Well from that response I can tell that clearly out of the two, it was option two which means there is some stuff that you have to tell me," Kim said.
"I don't have to tell you anything," Jessica replied she really just wanted to keep it to herself because she knew it was wrong and she shouldn't be doing that to Sarah, but the last thing she needed was Kim telling her she was wrong.
"Yeah and I didn't have to keep the fact that I know how you feel about Elliot secret but I did," Kim said trying to guilt trip Jessica into telling her.
Jessica sighed, she knew Kim wasn't going to stop until she knew everything.
"I don't even know where to start," Jessica said.
"Well how about from the last thing I knew which was basically that you and Elliot liked each other," Kim said.
Jessica wasn't even sure what she wanted to tell Kim but she knew she would have to tell her the basics of the story and not go in to too much detail.
"Well we basically admitted our feelings for each other that night at the lake after the party we had to celebrate our win at the Labour Day cup. Then well he moved here and ignored me for the first few days because he was trying to ignore his feelings for me and now we're speaking and I still feel something, but he doesn't want to hurt Sarah and well neither do I, so we're just staying friends," Jessica said.
"So apart from admitting your feeling noting actually happened?" Kim asked.
"No," Jessica lied.
"You are such a bad liar what happened?" Kim asked again.
Jessica tried to deny anything happened but Kim wouldn't give up,
"Ok!" Jessica said ending it, "We kissed and that's it,"
"Knew it!" Kim replied, "But you must feel so bad for Sarah".
"Yeah of course I do, and I don't need you to remind me".
Kim went on to lecture Jessica about how bad that was and how Sarah didn't deserve to be treated that way by her sister, and that Elliot had already hurt her enough so she certainly didn't deserve any more hurt from him, and it all just made Jessica feel ten times worse than she already did.
Please review and if you have any ideas or suggestions on anything that could happend in the story, please let me know!
