AN-This is an edit version of the same chapter. I've added some things and change some things, but it's pretty much the same. If you've read this when I had seven chapters. I do suggest you reread starting at chapter two when I post it. I didn't know where I was heading with this story in 2015, but now I do. Better late than never.
Chapter 1
For centuries, the Village Hidden in the Leaves has made it their mission to eradicate the monstrosities that threaten humanity's very existence called vampires. At long last, they have nearly succeeded. After years of so much loss and bloodshed, the Land of Fire was starting to see the light. The key to their success, vampires were just hard to create. Only one out of every 100,000 humans could make the change. The transition is said to be so excruciating that the change kills the majority. The village faced many casualties during the war. For a time it seemed like for every vampire the village succeeds in killing, hundreds of more humans would be found dead just to replace that one. Years have passed since a massacre and months since an attack has plagued the village. The Hidden Leaf village citizens welcome the peace and the freedom to roam out at night without the threat of fangs. Including a young boy with gold spiky locks and ocean blue eyes.
I raced through the streets of Konoha eager to get home and see my parents. The excitement had me so worked up that I had spent hours training to burn off my extra energy. Today was the day they are supposed to be returning home after weeks on a scouting mission and I couldn't wait. I wanted to know everything about their mission. Were the vampires as they described in school? At the academy, we're only taught the history, weapons, and how to kill them. Not one of my classmates has ever seen one though. The Anbu that patrols the walls of the village are very good at keeping the vampires out. The village has never been attacked in my lifetime. I wonder if they really crave blood and burn in the sunlight? Do such monsters truly exist? If the sun can kill them so easily no wonder, they are almost extinct. Hopefully, they will bring back an actual fang-like his dad had promised!
"Ohhhh that would be the best gift EVER!" I shouted. My exclamation earned me a few startled looks as I ran by, but I didn't care. Today is going to be great. I added chakra to the bottom of my feet and jumped to the nearest roof determined to get home as soon as possible. More than anything, I couldn't wait to show them my headband. Proof that I'm officially a ninja of the Hidden Leaf Village. All the hard work and training paid off and I graduated flawlessly. Well, second to the Uchiha, but that doesn't matter. Naruto ran just a few more steps and his building came into sight. His feet pounded at the shingles harder, willing them to go faster.
"Otosan! Okasan! I'm home!" I yelled as I burst through the door then frowned. The lights were still off. The smell of mom's famous pork ramen didn't scent the air. Nor was dad in the living room reading one of the pervy sage's books? "Otosan?" I called again, but all was quiet in the Uzamakia household. Had I gotten the dates wrong? I ran to the table where the letter from my parents rested. Father had written that he and mom were two days out from the village and wouldn't make it to the graduation ceremony, but they would be there to celebrate that night. Well, today is the day so, where were they?
Sighing heavily, I headed to my room for a much-needed shower. "Man, what a downer," I mumbled. I'd expected setbacks would arise, but I had hoped they would clean this one as quickly as possible and get back. He knew that better than anyone; especially since his father was the Hokage. This last nest they found was rumored to be one of the biggest and required all the firepower our village could muster. If dad had gone though, shouldn't this have been wrapped up last week? "For crying out loud, I know all about your Flying Thunder God technique! Maybe, I should go ask the Third," he mused. The old man's more like a grandpa even though we aren't related by blood. While dad's gone, he is acting Hokage, so it's likely he's busy too.
I stripped out of my sweaty clothes and showered quickly. Even if my parents and the Third weren't showing up tonight, Jiraiya was coming to celebrate. It looks like it is just going to be the two of us. We were going to stay in because mom wanted to cook, but now-
A knock at the door interrupted my train of thought. That's weird. Jiraiya tended to prefer coming in through the window than the door, maybe this was one of the rare moments. He probably thinks mom is home and is trying to act like a gentleman.
I opened the door without care and was met with a wall of blackness. It took me a second too long to realize the hallway I had ran through only moments ago lights were blown out and another second too long to defend myself. Without warning, a hand shot out of the darkness and wrapped its long fingers around my neck. I yelled in surprise and immediately strained to undo the ice-cold death grip around my neck, but it was useless. The owner of the arm had an impossible amount of strength. What. The. Actual. Fuck!
"YOU!" it growled.
Me? I thought. I forced my eyes open against the pain. Blood red eyes met my ocean blues. My struggles ceased in my horror. I felt the color drain from my face and shook as a blanket of fear enclosed me. My heart pounded against my chest painfully with the need for air. There was no mistaking the creature before me. A vampire, but how!? Vampires were nearly extinct. How had it gotten into the village, pass so many people, and passed the Anbu!? Impossible!
With my other hand, I tried to reach for the tool kit usually strapped to my left leg only to realize it was in the other room. "Damn-it!" I swore. There was no way out of this mess. The worse thing any genin or chuunin ninja could do was take on a vampire by themselves. It's execution. This guy's strength is monstrous! I can't break it! There would be no running for me. Even if I was somehow able to injure it, the damn thing would heal. I strained to look at the window. Yep, its night time. Tears stung my eye. I wanted to scream at my own helplessness.
"Otosan! Okasan! Anybody, please help!" I yelled with the last of my breath. It was the only thing I could do, and I hated it.
"You're their child," it said as he brushed his icy nose along my neck all so slowly. I caught sight of the white gleam of fangs and trembled. Despite his cold grip, the vampire's breath felt hot against my neck and reeked of rust. I felt the pressure of sharp needles push against my neck. I don't want to die. My life had barely started. I wanted to succeed my father, to taste all flavors of ramen, and to meet a girl that would make me as happy as my mom made dad.
"Let me go! Let me go! Jiraiya! PLEASE HELP"
I let out a choked gasp when he felt the beast fangs suddenly tear into his neck without care. I tried to suck in as much air as I could to howl in pain, but it was as if the bite had taken my breath away. My body seized up from the intrusion as sharp hot pain tore into me. Hot and wet blood spilled down my neck and chest.
"It's because of your parents' blood that I was able to find you kid. Before I killed them, I'd made a promise that they would see their precious son again. You know, I just hate keeping a family apart."
"NO!" I yelled, but with each swallow, my vision grew more and more cloudy. My heart beating less and less. This thing is feeding off me, I thought, just like my…parents. I began to cry. My wet tears adding along to the blood that stained my clothes.
"Oh Kami! NO!" suddenly came Jiraiya's voice.
I could barely make out his form with my fading sight and when I felt my eyes closed, I prayed that this was all just a nightmare. That when I opened my eyes again this would be all a nightmare and my parents would be downstairs calling me down for breakfast.
I felt cold. I tried to shiver. To get some type of heat to flow back threw me, but I couldn't move, open my eyes, nor breathe. I felt displaced without a sense of time or place. If this was death it is isolated and bleak. Shouldn't my parents be here waiting for me? I began to feel some heat in my neck. Gradually it chased away deaths touch and I welcomed it until it began to burn. The side of my face felt like it was being held against fire and the burning heat is agony. I prayed that it would end quickly. Dying would have been better than feeling because suddenly I was incredibly thirsty. My tongue felt like sandpaper. There wasn't a drop of moisture in my mouth. My stomached cramped with hunger. I whimpered and tried to curl into myself, however, I was met with resistance. A loud thunderclap sounded when I attempted to move, and I flinched away. Only to result in another bang of noise. I moaned in pain wanting to grip my head as if to stop the suffering. However, the clattering noise stayed silent if I remained still, so I did.
"Water," I cried, but that wasn't right. It wasn't what this burning desire craved. What I want. My heart sped up with excitement and my teeth began to ache with a need. No! I don't want to be like them. I refuse and earnestly began wishing for death. Willed for it to happen, but it was hard to leave my own body when the chains were inside me.
"I won't let you kill him!" an all too familiar voice said through the fog though it sounded like thunder to my ears. I let out a sob because the voices were too loud.
"Their bite only does one out of two things Jairiya! You either die or worse, you turn. That thing over there is no longer your god-son! He's becoming one of them" said an unfamiliar voice. "Just looks at his teeth!"
"There is a way to stop it," Jairiya announced. "It's not a cure, but he can still be human," Jairiya pleaded for them to understand. Mostly to the Third; his approval was the one he really needed.
"That thing can never be human again Third! You can't listen to nothing this drunken fool has to say."
"Danzō, I swear if you call Naruto a thing one more time, not even Kami will be able to save you from me," hiss Jairiya.
He was livid. He wasn't drunk. Maybe a little tipsy, but if the sight of watching his godson's neck in that beast's mouth wasn't a wakeup call, he didn't know what was. The minute he walked into Minato's office he cursed at the sight of Danzō. The man was out for everyone destruction.
"ENOUGH!" boomed the Third. "Jiraiya, Naruto means a lot to me too, but I cannot put my feeling for him above the entire village."
"But Hokage-"
"I have not finished Jairiya, this 'way' you speak of, is it a permeant fix? Have you had any success with it?"
"Honestly, I don't know, this will be my first attempt at the seal."
"You know what will happen to the boy if you fail," the Third warned. He would kill Naruto as soon as he wakes up as one of them.
Jiraiya didn't reply…
