So I noticed that when Hailey told Jay about the abuse in 7x16 she only ever mentioned the domestic abuse between Hailey's mom and dad so in episode 8x04 when Hailey said Jay didn't know the half of it I wanted to write a scene were Hailey tells jay all about the abuse she suffered. I also wanted to introduce Hailey's brother

"What" Jay asked seeing Hailey was upset

"Your speech, good people know people are flawed, that they do stupid things sometimes" she responded

"Hailey I wasn't talking about you I was talking about Zach, I know what you've gone through and that he was abusive" he said

"You don't know they half of it" Hailey responded

Jay kept rethinking this while he was sitting across from Hailey in her kitchen.

"You didn't go see him did you" he blurted out and Hailey was quiet for a moment

"I went to the hospital, I tried but seeing him there. I just couldn't do it Jay" she said looking down her voice breaking slightly.

"I'm sorry" she said refusing to look at him and she waited for him to shout at her for lying but instead her wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his embrace.

"You said earlier that I didn't know the half of it, Hailey I want to help, please let me in tell me what happened" he asked her still in his embrace.

Hailey sighed and went to sit on the couch and Jay followed.

Jay could see Hailey was very hesitant to open up.

"Hails you can tell me you know that. I'm always here for you but if your not ready then that's okay to" he told her

"I just don't, don't want to scare you away" she said so quietly jay almost couldn't hear her.

"Hails" he said softly his heart breaking for her "nothing you could ever say or do would push me away, you stuck it out with me with all the crap I went through and I'm going to do the same for you" he said

"It's just some people just don't want the baggage" Hailey replied

"Hails I'm here for worse or better" he told her and she nodded. It was quiet for a moment and Jay half expected her to shut down and ignore his previous request for her to open up to him but she eventually broke the silence.

"My dad uh he drank a lot, when he was drunk he would become aggressive" Hailey said refusing eye contact

"And then he would hit your mom" jay filled in the blank

"My mom, me, my brothers really anyone who was unlucky enough to be in the room" Hailey said and Jay looked at her

"He hit you too" Jay asked

Hailey stayed silent for a while and jay though she wasn't going to reply but she spoke up with no emotion in her voice

"I was the youngest, my one brother Micheal was 4 years older and Danny my oldest brother was 6 year older. I was small and young so I was the target. Danny and Micheal, they were old enough and big enough to defend themselves and my dad new that so he targeted me instead knowing that my age and height would be against me. The first time I remember it happening I was four, since then it just became a regular thing. He would drink get drunk and then take his frustration out on me" Hailey said and Jay was in shock really.

"Hails, I had no idea" he said and Hailey still refused to make eye contact.

"How bad did things get" he asked wearily

"Danny always tried to protect me the best he could. He definitely did his job as the oldest sibling. He was like my best friend growing up and Micheal would intervene if he was in the room but he kind of just spent as much time as possible out of the house with his friends but if they where out and not at home or somewhere else in the house then he would beat me til he got tired or someone intervened" Hailey replied emotionless as though she was shut off to the topic.

"Didn't your mom do anything" jay asked. He could see past the walls she had put up to protect herself from the topic and he knew even though she acted emotionless towards she was hurting in the inside.

"My mom didn't like to get in the middle of things. She would often just leave the room" Hailey replied

"She didn't stop it" he asked shocked

"Even though we lived in the same house we had very different experiences. He always had a limit to how far he would take the when it came to my mom but with he wouldn't stop unless someone stopped him or he decided he had had enough" Hailey explained

"Did he, did he ever put you in hospital" he asked scared of the answer

"Nineteen times" she said looking down her shield breaking slight and the wall were starting to come down.

Hailey was waiting for the flood of questions as there was still so much he didn't know but instead jay apologised

"Hailey I'm so sorry if I had know I wouldn't have pushed you" He said

"No I know, you didn't want me to regret my decision and I will see him. I need to see him I just can't do it right now" she said and again he pulled her in a hug she tensed at the physical touch she wasn't expecting but finally relaxed into his arms as she struggled to compose herself, all the memories flooding back to. She knew she had opened a door that had been buried deep down inside her for so long and she knew these next few days we're going to be hard.

Jay could tell there was so much more he didn't know about. The hospital visits, her brothers, her mom and how her dad really was like. What all he knew so far was that her father was abusive to all of them and Hailey was the target due to her lack of ability to defend herself which just infuriated him even more that someone's own father would mistreat there child because they couldn't defend themselves.

He also knew though that Hailey wasn't someone who enjoyed opening up and he could see that she was reluctant to talk to him about the topic in the first place because she has so many walls up to protect herself from all the pain she has experienced.

He dropped the topic for the meantime and turned on a movie. Eventually hailey fell asleep and jay draped the blanket over her.

He didn't remember going to sleep but he was suddenly awoken by moving on the couch. He looked over to Hailey were she was moving around a lot. Jay could tell she was having a nightmare something he was very familiar with. He knew she had opened up a door that she had probably kept shut for years and the pain and stress of the situation was weighing on her.

"Hey hails Hailey it's me jay" he said shaking her shoulders slightly

Hailey woke up in a panic, her body trembling and her breathing rapid.

"Hey it okay" he said as he went to pull her into a hug but she immediately flinched away at his touch. His heart broke slightly at the fact that she would be scared of him but then realised that it wasn't him she was afraid of.

"Hailey, hey look at me it's jay okay" he said calmly as her hands continued to tremble and she refused eye contact.

Jay moved Hailey's chin up to make eye contact and the moment there eyes locked her body relaxed slightly and her breathing calmed down. Jay took this moment to wrap her up into his arms and hug her. She was still shaking in his arms and they stayed like this until she had calmed down.

"Hey you okay now" he asked her softly releasing her so he could look at her face.

"Yea sorry" she apologised and Jay shook his head

"Hailey you don't need to apologise I get it" he assured her and she nodded but jay wasn't convinced she had actually believed what he said. He got the impression that Hailey was made to believe she was an inconvenience to her family and it all of a sudden clicked as to why Hailey came across so stoned face. Why she kept her walls up 24/7. She didn't want to burden others.

Jay knew Hailey wouldn't voluntarily allow herself to fall back asleep so he put something on the tv as Hailey snuggled next to him on the couch and eventually she fall back asleep. It wasn't long till his eyes got heavy to and he drifted into darkness.
