Chapter 26

The party at the Murtaugh's house was still going on and it was nearly midnight by now. Jessica was still upset about Elliot after he announced that they would never be together and that it would be best if they weren't friends because of their feelings. She had been quiet the rest of the next and barley said a word.

"You ok?" Jake asked as he knew there was something wrong.

"Just tired that's all," Jessica replied as she put on a fake smile.

"You sure?" Jake asked, convinced there was something else.

"Yeah there is nothing wrong," Jessica replied.

Jake's phone began to ring, "Hi Sarah," he said as s he answered it.

"Who's he on the phone to?" Mike asked as he approached Jake and Jessica.

"Sarah," Jessica replied.

"She said she is going to come over she's at the house just now and she's just away to cross the road to head over here. I said I'd go outside and meet her," Jake said as he left to go meet Sarah.

"I wonder how her date went," Mike said.

Jake stood outside for a few minutes until Sarah arrived, "So how did your date go?" Jake asked.

"It went really well," Sarah replied with a smile in her face. As she walked in the house Lorraine smiled at her and mouthed across the room asking how it went, and Sarah replied by giving the thumbs up.

Lorraine had been speaking to Calvin all night. The two of them had always gotten along really well but nothing had ever happened between them. Whenever they were with each other they were always flirting.

"When is it you go back to New York then?" Calvin asked.

"Tomorrow morning," Lorrain replied.

"Oh that's gutting only got one night to spend with you," Calvin smiled.

"Yeah it is a shame," Lorraine replied.

Ann and Charlie were sitting at the opposite side of the room from Calvin and Lorraine.

"They totally like each other," Ann said.

"I know," Charlie agreed if it wasn't for the fact Lorraine lived in New York I bet they would be together because whenever they see each other they are always flirting".

Sarah walked through to the kitchen as Serena said for her to go through and get a drink. Elliot was sitting at the breakfast bar playing with his phone before he looked up and noticed Sarah.

"Hey how did your date go?" Elliot asked.

"It was good," Sarah felt awkward talking about this to Elliot.

"That's good what did you do?" Elliot asked.

"Just went for an ice cream," Sarah replied before Serena handed her drink and she left the room.

"You ok?" Serena asked Elliot, she could see there was something up.

"I'm ok," Elliot replied.

"You upset that Sarah is moving on because I know you really liked her?" Serena asked after hearing his and Sarah's conversation.

"It's not that," Eliot replied, "Well it doesn't help because it is hard to watch Sarah move on," it was really the whole thing with Jessica which had upset Elliot.

"Maybe it would help if you moved on too," Serena suggested. Elliot always forgot that no one knew about him and Jessica so everyone thought he hadn't moved on when he had.

"I did move on actually in the summer, but it was nothing serious, it was kept secret because I didn't want to hurt Sarah," Elliot said, "I did like her though".

Serena looked interested. She had always found it difficult to try and build bonds with Jimmy's kids because he had had several wives before her so his kids were always expecting her to be gone soon and there would be another step mom, but Serena knew she was here to stay. She felt because the kids weren't in touch with their real mom because Jimmy had won the custody battle -and that was all she knew because Jimmy never spoke about it- she felt she had to try play mom to them because she was the closet those kids had.

"Can I just ask, why did you keep it secret, what made you think that you getting with someone else would hurt Sarah? She would have known you would have moved on sometime," Serena asked.

Elliot didn't want to tell Serena that it was Jessica so he couldn't tell the real reason that it was because she was a family member so he lied that it was because he felt it was too soon to move on.

"So do you still see this girl?"

"Yeah I see her at school," Elliot replied.

Serena's face lit up, "It's Jessica Baker isn't it?" Serena was slightly shocked but not surprised as she knew how close they were. Elliot didn't know what to say, he never denied it, or admitted it.

"It has to be because you said you met her in the summer, yet we didn't move here till the end of summer and if she goes to your school then you'd have met her after summer, so that leaves it to be one of the Bakers and you and Jessica are always hanging out together" Serena knew she was right.

"Okay it is her. But please don't tell anyone I kept it to myself because I thought it was bad getting with Sarah's younger sister".

"I won't I promise," Serena smiled, "How much younger is she than you?"

"Two years, well actually a year and a half to be exact," Elliot replied. He had never spoken to anyone before about Jessica and it felt strange talking to Serena about it because they never spoke about anything like this, but it felt good to open up about it.

"So are things not working with you and Jessica?" Serena said quietly so no one in the room next door could hear.

"We were never in a proper relationship, we were friends yet we felt something for each other. I didn't want to hurt Sarah again so I just couldn't go public with Jessica and tonight I felt bad because I knew that I could never be with Jessica so I told her that, and I also didn't think we could continue being friends when we felt this way," Elliot said telling the story of what had happened. He still couldn't believe that of all the people it was Serena he was talking to about this.

"Are you sure that you haven't made a mistake? You can't help if you like someone and people you really like don't come along often and them liking you back too for who you really are, that can be difficult to find are you sure that you're not making a mistake? You both like each other so I don't see the problem. I'm sure Sarah would understand." Serena said giving her honest opinion.

"I don't know I don't want to hurt Sarah again though," Elliot replied.

"Are you sure you don't still have feelings for Sarah? Because otherwise I wouldn't let anything stand in the way of love," Serena said.

Elliot didn't actually know that answer to that question. Maybe he did still like Sarah, maybe that explained everything as to why he couldn't get in a proper relationship with Jessica. Elliot was confused he wasn't sure what he felt at all. Did he still like Sarah? Was he making a mistake about Jessica?

"Have a think about it before making any quick decisions and a little advice, follow what your heart tells you," Serena said before she went back to the living room to join the other adults.

Elliot knew he had some serious thinking to do. He had to decide what it was that he really wanted. He was already beginning to regret telling Jessica that they could never be together, maybe they were right for each other. He knew him and Sarah had been over for quite some time now and she had moved on so maybe she wouldn't mind if he and Jessica got together.

Elliot was so confused, part of him thought he has done the right thing and the other part thought that he had made the wrong decision. He knew he had sleep on it and decide what it was that he really wanted.

Kim felt really bad for Jessica, she knew that she really liked Elliot. Even though Kim thought that it was really bad that Jessica liked Elliot after everything that he had done for Sarah, she still couldn't help but feel bad for Jessica. She seen Elliot sitting by himself still on the kitchen, she was trying to decide whether or not to speak to him.

"Hey," Kim said as she sat across the breakfast bar from Elliot. She felt very awkward because Elliot wasn't really someone she spoke too much.

"Hi," he replied looking a little bit uncomfortable.

"Look I know all about you and Jessica. She tried to keep it secret from me but we are twins so I was able to figure it out for myself. Buy anyway why I'm sitting here talking to you is because I know Jessica really likes you and she's like heartbroken now".

Elliot didn't feel comfortable talking about this too Kim because he had rarely ever spoken to her before.

"I'll admit that I'm really sitting on the fence about you and Jessica. I was totally against it to begin with because I thought after everything you done to Sarah, and the fact that you two were keeping it a secret from Sarah. But recently I seen how happy Jessica seems to be with you so it's hard for me to watch her be this upset," Kim said explaining her thoughts on the situation, "I can tell that you don't want to talk to me about it but just answer this question. Why did you tell Jessica that you two had no future together?"

Kim was right when she said that Elliot didn't want to talk about this to Kim, but he could tell that she wasn't going to let this one go. "I have never felt happy about the fact that Jessica is Sarah's sister and that is why I have never wanted to be in a proper relationship with Jessica because I didn't want to hurt Sarah. But I really do like Jessica so I have never wanted to do this but I know that me and Jessica can't continue like this, I think I've always know that but never wanted to admit it to myself," Elliot said finally answering Kim's question.

"So all this time you have been leading Jessica on?" Kim said getting angry.

"No!" Elliot immediately replied.

"But you said you knew that it would never work," Kim replied questioning Elliot's motives.

"Yeah and I told Jessica that," Elliot replied.

"The thing I don't get is why you didn't just tell Sarah about how you felt about Jessica. It seems unfair that she doesn't know and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be surprised because she's asked a few times if there is anything going on between you and Jessica. You never know maybe she would have approved of it," Kim replied, "I think you're just a coward who doesn't really know what he wants. But next time make sure it doesn't involve any of my family members!"

"I don't need to justify or explain myself to you," Elliot replied as he left the room.
