Chapter 42

It was finally Friday and there was only one day of school until the weekend. All of the kids were having their breakfast when Tom went to go speak to all of his kids.

"Right this weekend my work is having their annual BBQ and I expect all of you to come!" Tom announced.

"But dad I had plans," Kim said.

"Why didn't you tell us about this before?" Henry asked.

"I totally forgot it was this weekend that's why I hadn't mentioned it yet, and well you'll just have to cancel your plans," Tom said. Tom was now the coach again for alma mater's football team after job offer came about again and with his kids now all a bit older he thought he would give it a shot again and so far things had been going well.

"But that's not fair," Mark argued back.

"Kids can you not all please just rearrange and your plans. Your dad has already said that all of us are going so they will have catered for all of us and otherwise it will be a waste of money if you don't go," Kate said as she tried to convince her kids to come.

"Well I guess I can rearrange my plans then," Kim said as everyone else agreed.

"And all of you guys better be on your best behaviour, I don't want any of you to embarrass me in front of my work colleagues," Tom said.

"I can't believe we all have to go to this stupid BBQ," Henry complained as he put his school books in his bag.

"Me neither. It will probably be a bunch of people who will probably go on and on about how they could never imagine having twelve kids. You know everyone always treats us as if we're some crazy family," Jake said as he dreaded the idea of going.

"I know we're just a big family that's all," Mike agreed.

Just as they were leaving to go to school, Jimmy was at the door.

"Hey Dad Jimmy is here to see you!" Henry shouted to his dad to get his attention.

"Hey there Jimmy how can I help you," Tom said as he sat down in the living room with Jimmy.

"I was just here to ask if you were going to your team's annual BBQ this weekend?" Jimmy asked.

"Yes..." Tom wasn't sure how Jimmy would even know about that.

"Well just the other day I signed a deal so now Murtaugh enterprise is now the sponsors of your team," Jimmy confessed.

"I hadn't heard about this yet," Tom looked really confused.

"Well a few things still need to be finalised but then an announcement will be made," Jimmy explained.

"Well that is good news then," Tom said with a fake smile. He couldn't believe Jimmy's company was now the sponsors of the alma mater's football team.

"So what's this got to do with the BBQ?" Tom asked.

"Well since I am the new sponsor my family have been invited to the BBQ!" Jimmy revealed.

"Great!" Tom said trying his best not to sound sarcastic although he isn't really happy about the situation.

"So there have been a couple changes. I have now donated towards the BBQ and it has now moved venues to the Cherrytop hotel" Jimmy said.

"Isn't that really posh?" Tom asked.

"No it's just a little more upmarket," Jimmy replied, Tom knew that would mean yes it was posh.

"I have also arranged for a few activates like a bouncy castle for some of the younger kids and also arranged a few activities as well so it will be a chance for us Murtaugh's to beat you Baker's again," Jimmy still couldn't believe that they had lost the labour day cup to the Baker's.

Tom couldn't believe that Jimmy was now sponsor of the football team and had reorganised the BBQ and even includes activities so that he could get revenge and try and beat the Baker's.

"Well I'll see tomorrow then Baker!" Jimmy said as he got up and left.

Tom had a surprised expression on his face, "What's wrong with you honey?" Kate asked.

"Jimmy!" Tom replied.

"What has he done now?" Kate asked Tom.

"What has he not would be a better question. He is now the sponsor of the football team so he is coming to the BBQ tomorrow. But he has reorganised the BBQ, moved it to a posh venue, and added activities just so that we can have the Baker's vs Murtaugh's again because he clearly hasn't gotten over the fact that we beat him at the lake," Tom explained to his wife.

"Well Tom there is not much we can do about that. But whatever you do don't let this start all this competiveness again," Kate advised Tom, although she knew there was a slim chance of that happening.

At school Jake was meeting up with Elliot . He hadn't properly spoke to Elliot since everything about him and Jessica become public knowledge. They had spoke but just not as much as they would usually have. Jake thought that Elliot might have been avoiding him since he was Sarah and Jessica's brother.

"Sup dude!" Jake said as he went and sat next to Elliot before first class.

"Haven't seen you about much," Elliot replied, "well not since the basketball game". Elliot knew that Jake was probably annoyed about him getting into a fight with Ryan.

"I know that's kind of bad considering you live across the street and we go to the same school," Jake replied, "I actually thought you migh have been avoiding me since I am Sarah and Jessica's brother."

"Well that might be a little true," Elliot admitted, "I'm just confussed and to be honest I didn't think speaking about it to their brother was the best idea".

"Would probably have to agree with you there," Jake laughed, "I don't what is about you Elliot but for some reason my sisters are like in love with you".

"Well I don't know what it is about Baker girls that I seem to like," Elliot joked back, "I have screwed up this time though haven't I Jake?"

"Just a little," Jake replied, "But it's not all your fault like the last time. I know Jessica didn't really do herself any favours by having a thing with both you and Ryan".

"To be honest I was scared you weren't going to speak to me not after everything I've done," Elliot admitted.

"Yeah well I know you're a different person than they guy that cheater on Sarah and lied and everything else he did. I know that you were actually trying not to hurt anyone this time and that is why you never told Sarah about Jessica," Jake said because he could tell that Elliot didn't want to hurt anyone.

"But that wasn't exactly fair on Jessica though. If I had just been honest with Sarah then I don't think any of this would ever have happened. Jessica would not have gotten so close to Ryan if I had just told Sarah that I liked Jessica and maybe Jessica and I could have been together," Elliot said thinking back on his actions and how things could have been different.

"It's easy to say that looking back on a situation but at the time it's a lot harder," Jake replied, "Like I think you wouldn't have been able to tell Sarah that because I think the big reason you didn't want to hurt her was because you still had feelings for her".

"Well feelings don't just disappear overnight do they?" Elliot said. This was the first time he had actually admitted that he did still have feelings for Sarah. "but I have feelings for Jessica as well now!"

"No one but your self can tell you what to do about this one. I suppose you just have to go with your heart," Jake said. Jake wasn't really the best guy to give relationship advice because he had never really been in one.

"Well if only it was that simple. I don't personally feel my heart is split in two one half for Sarah and the other Jessica. Anyway even if it was easy to choose, Jessica likes Ryan too and Sarah has Ethan now". Elliot had already excepted that there was a good chance that he was going to lose both of them.

"Think about it though it doesn't matter who you choose but you could leave some other guy heartbroken either Ethan or Ryan," Jake said, "well that is if Sarah or Jessica chose you over them".

"This whole situation is so messed up," Elliot said.

"I know there is like three different love triangles going on here," Jake said, "This whole thing is actually becoming very complicated".

"You excited for this BBQ then this weekend?" Elliot asked.

"Not really," Jake replied, "Wait how do you know about that?"

"We're going to my dad's company now sponsors the football team. My dad has actually funded the BBQ as well, he changed the venue and stuff," Elliot explained.

"Oh really?" Jake was surprised by that one and he knew that his dad wouldn't be too happy. He could picture it now.

The school day had ended and all the kids had headed home. When the Baker's got home Tom had asked for everyone to meet in the living room. Lorraine was still there as she had come to Chicago until Monday.

"Right are we all here now?" Tom said as Mark came into the living room and if he had already counted correctly then that would be everyone.

"Yes we're all here," Lorraine replied.

"Okay then kids I need to you to all pack a bag for two nights because there has been a change of plan about this BBQ this weekend," Tom said.

"Yeah Elliot said that the Murtaugh's are going because Jimmy now sponsors the team?" Jake asked to check that that was right.

"Yeah that's correct Jake," Kate said.

"But wait why are we going for 2 nights?" Henry asked.

"Well Jimmy being Jimmy has now funded the BBQ and moved the event to the Cherrytop hotel and he is paying all expenses for all players, coaches and staff to stay in the hotel with their families," Tom explained.

"So what it's like a free holiday?" Sarah asked.

"More or less," Tom replied, "But everyone must be on their best behaviour because this is a very fancy hotel and any nonsense from you lot and we will be thrown out. Did everyone get that?"

"Yes," they all replied.

"Right on you go and pack your bags for the two nights. We're leaving in half an hour because this hotel is like an hour and a half away," Tom said.

"Lorraine are you okay to come?" Kate asked.

"Yeah why not, won't turn down as hotel for a couple nights paid for by Jimmy," Lorraine laughed.

"Good good, Nora, Bud and baby Tom are coming too," Kate said.
