Outside of McDuck Manor was Dewey Duck, his Uncle Donald, the rest of their family, Launchpad, Bentina Beakley, Webby, and Webby's friends Lena and Violet Sabrewing; Dewey and Donald were standing next to the open trunk of Donald's car with luggage by their legs and boxes in their hands before putting their luggage inside of the trunk and the boxes in the car's backseat.
"Are you sure that you have everything that you need, Dewey?" Donald asked his nephew.
"For the bajillionth time Uncle Donald, no, I didn't forget anything," Dewey groaned in annoyance.
"I can confirm, I checked his bags myself," Huey confirmed.
"Alright, let me just close the backdoor trunk and then we can get our goodbyes in order," Donald smirked in satisfaction before closing the backdoor and the trunk of his car.
Suddenly, the trunk of Donald's car opened back up, causing Donald to frown before slamming his trunk shut. Once again, the trunk of his car opened back up, causing Donald to scowl before slamming his trunk shut harder, only for the trunk to open back up again.
"No good, razafrazzing trunk!," Donald exclaimed before jumping on the trunk of the car so that it could stay shut.
Everyone stood quiet as they watched Donald jumping on his car's trunk before Huey cleared his throat and turned his attention to Dewey.
"While Uncle Donald is trying to close his trunk, I want to once again say I'm really proud of you for getting into St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement," Huey praised.
"They should really shorten their name," Louie remarked offhandedly.
"We're all proud of ya, lad," Scrooge added, ignoring Louie's remark.
"It's honestly no big deal guys," Dewey claimed, not really excited to talk about the school he was going to attend.
"Not a big deal?! Dewey, this is a huge deal!," Huey insisted. "St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement is one of the top most prestigious high schools in America, possibly the world!"
"I concur with Hubert, getting into St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement is no easy feat, so for you to be given a full ride scholarship is quite impressive," Violet acknowledged.
"Who would've guessed that Bluey would turn out to be a nerd like Red, am I right, Pink?," Lena joked, causing Huey to frown at her.
Webby nodded in response, not really paying attention to what her friend had said as she looked to the ground with a sad look on her face. Lena looked concerned for her friend and was about to ask her what was wrong, but was interrupted by Della pushing past her so that she could go up to her middle child and hug him with all her strength. Dewey cringed due to the pain he was feeling from Della's tight grip on him while Della continued to hug him tight, unaware of the discomfort she was causing her son.
"Oh, I'm so proud of you Dewey, I knew that the future had great things in store for my boys, and now one of you is going to do big things at a fancy high school!," Della exclaimed.
"Uh, Mom, I think you're crushing him," Louie pointed out
Della then took notice of how hard she was squeezing Dewey and decided to let him go, allowing Dewey to breathe again.
"Whoops, sorry about that Dewey," Della apologized.
"It's fine, that barely hurt," Dewey lied as he tried to catch his breath.
Donald finally jumped on the trunk hard enough to keep it from opening before getting back on the ground and dusting his hands.
"Alright, we're just about ready to go," Donald declared before going up to Huey and Louie and hugging them. "Take care, you two. Don't cause too much trouble while I'm away, alright?"
"Of course not, Uncle Donald," Huey promised as he returned his uncle's hug.
"No promises," Louie semi-joked as he hugged his uncle.
Donald then goes over to his sister and hugs her, which Della returns.
"See you around, Della. Try not to do anything too reckless while I'm gone, alright?"
"No promises," Della repeated what her youngest son said.
Donald then let go of Della and went over to his Uncle Scrooge before sharing a hug with him.
"Take care of yourself, old man," Donald quipped.
"You too, you churlish cheapskate," Scrooge joked.
Donald let go of his uncle and turned his attention to his middle nephew.
"Alright, I'm going to go start up the car while you tell everyone goodbye," Donald instructed.
"Got it, Uncle Donald," Dewey replied before his uncle opened the door to his car and started the engine.
Dewey then turned his attention to his friends and family before rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"So, I guess this is it, huh?," Dewey asked rhetorically.
Suddenly, Launchpad broke out into tears before running up to Dewey and hugging him tightly.
"Oh, I'm going to miss you little buddy!," Launchpad cried, not noticing that he was hugging Dewey so tight that he was gasping for air.
"Launchpad, you work in St. Canard, you can visit me anytime," Dewey wheezed.
Launchpad, realizing that Dewey was right, let go of Dewey, causing him to drop to the floor.
"Oh, yeah, you're right. Well, see you tomorrow night, Dewey," Launchpad told Dewey before heading back inside the mansion.
Dewey quickly stood back up and dusted his clothes before Huey walked up to with a smile on his face.
"Take care of yourself, Dewey. Don't forget to call everyone every once in a while to let us know how you're doing. Also, don't be afraid to call me if you need help with your homework," Huey instructed.
"You got it, bro," Dewey consented, returning Huey's smile.
"Good. Also, Louie and I will call and tell you about any adventures that we go on while you're gone so that you don't feel left out," Huey offered.
"We will?," Louie questioned before getting elbowed in the chest by Huey. "I mean, yeah, sure we will."
"Uh, yeah, sure, I would appreciate that," Dewey reluctantly accepted, not really sure if he wanted to hear about the adventures that his family would be going on without him.
"I wish you the best of luck in your academic endeavors, Dewford," Violet stated before reaching her hand out so that she could shake his hand.
Dewey smiled before grabbing her hand and shaking it, "Thanks, Vi."
Once Dewey and Violet finished shaking hands, Lena decided to step forward so that she could say goodbye to Dewey.
"Good luck with nerd school, Blue," Lena quipped in a caring tone.
"Thanks, Lena," Dewey replied with a smile.
Scrooge went up to Dewey and put his hand on Dewey's shoulder and smiled at him.
"Like I said before, I'm really proud of ya, lad. Go show that the McDuck family are sharper than the sharpies, and smarter than the smarties."
"Heh, heh, thanks Uncle Scrooge, I'll try my best," Dewey chuckled nervously.
Once Scrooge finished saying goodbye to Dewey, Della decided to go up to her blue clad child and hugged him again, but this time she hugged him more gently than before.
"I'm really going to miss you, Dewey," Della admitted in a soft tone. "I wish that you could stay here with us, but I don't want you to miss out on such a huge opportunity and I know that you don't want to miss out on it either."
"Uh, yeah, I definitely want to go," Dewey reluctantly admitted before hugging her back. "I'm going to miss you too, Mom."
Once he let go of his mother, Dewey turned his attention to Webby, who had been looking down to the ground to avoid looking at Dewey.
"Webby, are you alright?," Dewey asked, concerned for his friend.
Webby didn't look up and continued to look down at the ground, making it hard for Dewey to notice the tears that built up in her eyes.
"Webby, what's wrong?," Dewey questioned.
Webby finally looked up towards Dewey, revealing that she was crying. Before Dewey could say anything, Webby launched herself towards Dewey and hugged him really tightly as she sobbed into his shoulder, babbling incoherent words.
"Webby, it's going to be okay," Dewey reassured her as he returned her hug.
Webby responded by once again babbling incoherent words that no one seemed to understand aside from Dewey.
"Are you kidding, Webby?," Dewey asked, somewhat offended by what she told him. "Of course I'm not staying in St. Canard forever"
Webby removed her face from her shoulders and wiped away her tears before looking at Dewey with a hopeful look on her face.
"Are you sure?," Webby asked, finally speaking coherently enough for everyone aside from Dewey to understand what she was saying.
"I promise," Dewey vowed.
Satisfied with Dewey's response, Webby smiles at Dewey before pulling him into a hug again which Dewey returned. Once Dewey and Webby let go of each other, Bentina walks over to Dewey and gently puts her hand on Dewey's shoulder.
"Young man, I wish you the best of luck in high school," Bentina commended.
"Thanks, Mrs. B," Dewey replied with a smile.
"Your actions reflect on your family so please be on your best behavior in your new school," Bentina instructed.
Dewey put his hands up defensively, "Don't worry, I'll behave."
Bentina looked at Dewey skeptically for a few seconds before smiling at him.
"Good," Bentina replied before removing her hand from his shoulder.
Suddenly, the sound of Donald's car horn had caused Dewey to look in Donald's direction.
"Hurry up, Dewey. We've got to go before traffic hits!," Donald called out to his blue clad nephew.
"Just a minute, Uncle Donald!," Dewey yelled back to his uncle.
Dewey turned his attention to his family and friends one last time before smiling at them.
"Take care, guys. Don't have too much fun without me," Dewey semi-quipped.
A chorus of goodbyes came from his family and friends before going up to Donald's car, opening the door and sitting on the passenger's seat, and closing the door behind him. As Donald began to drive away from McDuck Manor, Dewey turned around to see his family and friends calling out to him and waving goodbye to which he responded by waving back at them. Once they were far enough away from the manor, Dewey turned back to face the car window with a solemn look on his face. Noticing the sad look on his nephew's face, Donald decided to turn on the radio so that Dewey's attention would be on the song and not on being away from his family.
Well, I'm going home,
To the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for- (1)
Donald quickly shut the radio off before the song could keep playing, however, he knew the damage had already been done when he saw Dewey look even more sad than he did before.
"Look, Dewey, I know that you're going to miss everyone back home but think about all the cool new experiences that you'll have in St. Canard," Donald reasoned.
"Yeah, like what?," Dewey asked gloomily, not turning away from the car window.
"Like going to high school; you've always wanted to go to high school, haven't you?," Donald rationalized.
Dewey turned his attention away from the car window and instead focused it on his uncle with a frustrated look on his face.
"Yeah, a normal high school, not some nerd school where they're going to make me learn things I won't understand," Dewey argued.
"Remember that time you figured out that since Atlantis was flipped upside down, the Jewel of Atlantis was hanging over us?," Donald questioned.
"Yeah, why?," Dewey asked, curious as to what his uncle was getting at.
"By concentrating and assessing the situation, you were able to figure out something that Uncle Scrooge couldn't figure out, and he's supposed to be sharper than the sharpies and smarter than the smarties. If you can figure out something like that, high school shouldn't be that much of a challenge," Donald explained.
"I guess you have a point," Dewey reluctantly agreed.
"Besides, even though St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement might be a school for smart kids, you could still do the same things that you can in regular high schools, like joining drama club or a sports team, for example," Donald reasoned.
"Wait, really?," Dewey questioned, getting a bit excited.
"Yeah, of course you can," Donald revealed.
"Alright, maybe you're right and nerd school won't be that bad after all," Dewey reluctantly admitted.
Donald smiled widely, happy that he was able to cheer his nephew up a little bit.
"That's the spirit, Dewey," Donald commended before taking notice of the traffic jam that was in front of him. "Oh, come on! Now it's going to take hours until we get to St. Canard!"
Donald pounded his fists against the car horn out of anger before resting his head on the driving wheel.
"This is exactly why I told Uncle Scrooge that I wanted Launchpad to take us on the Cloudslayer; the roads to St. Canard are always filled with traffic in the morning but, nooooo, flying the plane over to St. Canard when we could just drive would be a 'waste of plane fuel'," Donald complained before raising his head off the wheel and sighing. "You'd think the richest duck in the world would be okay with wasting a few dollars to refuel his plane just so he could help his nephews avoid traffic."
"So, what do we do now?," Dewey asked.
"The only thing we can do: wait," Donald answered before stroking his chin for a brief moment. "Actually, maybe you should take a nap while I wait this out so you're not bored out of your mind while waiting for traffic to move. Besides, you were up a little late last night packing your things."
"That's because I was trying to figure out what I should and shouldn't have left behind in the Manor. Honestly, it took a lot longer than I thought it would," Dewey explained before abruptly yawning. "Maybe you're right about that nap, I do feel a bit tired."
"Alright, I'll wake you up once we get there," Donald told Dewey.
Dewey nodded his head in understanding before getting comfortable in his seat and closing his eyes so that he could fall asleep. After a few seconds, the sound of Dewey's snoring indicated to Donald that his nephew was fast asleep. Donald smiled at how peaceful Dewey looked while sleeping before turning his attention back to the road, seeing that the cars in front of him had barely moved an inch.
"This might take a while," Donald groaned.
Dewey's shoulder was being shaken by Donald, causing Dewey to wake up from his long nap and turn his attention to his uncle.
"You were a lot more tired than I thought; I know I said that I would wake you up when we got there, but considering how energetic you are, I thought you would have woken up a while before that," Donald admitted.
"How long was I asleep?," Dewey asked groggily.
"About five hours," Donald revealed.
Dewey's eyes widened at this revelation, "Wait, I was really asleep for five hours?!," he questioned, causing Donald to nod his head in response. "Huh, usually it's Louie who takes naps that long."
"Come on, let's get out and move our stuff into our new home," Donald instructed before opening and getting out through the car door.
"You mean our temporary ho-," Dewey paused, having gotten out of the car and getting a good look at the house him and his uncle Donald were staying in. The house was a pretty big house with a brown tiled rooftop, white paint, and a pretty big front and backyard; Dewey was somewhat impressed. "Wow, this house actually looks pretty nice. I mean, it's not as nice as the mansion, but it still looks pretty good."
"Yup, I'm glad I was able to afford it," Donald confessed with a proud smile on his face.
Dewey looked at his uncle with suspicion, "Hey, how were you able to afford this place?"
"Oh, it's because of my new job," Donald explained.
'New job, what new job?," Dewey asked in confusion.
"What do you mean, 'What new job?'," Donald asked in slight annoyance. "I told you and the rest of the family during a family meeting three weeks ago that I got a new job in St. Canard and that's why I'm able to live with you in St. Canard while you attended high school here. Is this not ringing any bells?"
"Ohhhh, so that's what you were saying," Dewey realized. "Sorry, even though it's gotten easier to understand you over the years, sometimes I still have a hard time understanding you so I just nod along to what you're saying and hope it's not a question."
Donald sighed in annoyance; it was times like these where he really wished his voice wasn't so… unique.
"I got a job at a creative agency and they're paying me good money to help advertise different brands," Donald explained. "I got paid in advance so I used the money to buy this house."
"Wait, so you're telling me that this creative agency that you're going to work for paid you in advance enough money to buy a house," Dewey asked suspiciously.
"Uhhh, yeah, pretty much," Donald confessed somewhat unconvincingly.
Dewey eyed his uncle suspiciously for a few seconds before replacing his suspicious stare with a wide smile.
"Cool! So, what does a creative agency do anyways? Oh, do you come up with cool spy weapons that super spies use on missions?!," Dewey asked excitedly.
"No, we actually offer branding and marketing help to people who want to spread their own brand revolving around creativity," Donald explained proudly.
"Oh, so just a boring office job, huh?," Dewey asked in a disappointed tone.
Donald looked at Dewey with a stern face, ready to counter what he said, but ultimately stayed quiet when he realized that Dewey was right.
"Yeah, basically," Donald admitted before walking behind his car and opening up the backdoor and trunk. "Let's worry less about my job and worry more about moving these bags and boxes inside our house."
Just as Donald was about to grab his luggage, a hockey puck hit the back of his head, causing him to jump up and yell in pain.
"Hey! What's the big idea?!," Donald yelled while rubbing the back of his head.
Donald turned around and looked down to see that he had been hit on the back by a hockey puck. He picked up the puck, getting ready to throw it as far away as possible before getting interrupted due to someone shouting at him.
"Hey, put that down!," a feminine voice yelled at Donald from behind him.
Donald turns around to see Gosalyn skating towards him wearing roller hockey pads and skates while having a hockey stick in hand. Gosalyn quickly snatched the hockey puck out of Donald's hand before giving him a stern look.
"What do you think you're doing?! This is my only hockey puck and I wouldn't have been able to buy another one for a week if you made me lose it!," Gosalyn exclaimed.
Donald rubbed the back of his head while looking at Gosalyn with a sheepish look on his face.
"Heh, sorry about that," Donald apologized.
Before Gosalyn could respond, Dewey walked towards his friend and spoke up.
"Gos, is that you?," Dewey asked in surprise.
Gosalyn quickly turned her attention to her friend and looked at him in surprise, "Dewey?"
Gosalyn skated towards her friend with a smile on her face until she stood right in front of him.
"It's really you!," Gosalyn exclaimed in excitement before composing herself. "Uhhh, I mean, what are you doing here?"
"I'm going to be living in St. Canard with my uncle Donald so that I can go to a high school here," Dewey explained while gesturing to his uncle who waved at Gosalyn.
Gosalyn was bewildered by her friend's explanation, "Why're you going to a high school here instead of going to a high school in Duckburg?"
"Because Dewey got accepted into St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement," Donald answered proudly.
Gosalyn stayed quiet for a few seconds before bursting out laughing.
"Hahaha, oh man, that's a good one. Like Dewey would actually get into one of the most prestigious schools in the country!," Gosalyn laughed.
Once Gosalyn saw Donald's serious expression and the offended look on Dewey's face, she stopped laughing and looked at them in wide-eyed shock.
"Wait, you're being serious?," Gosalyn asked.
"Yeah. He starts Monday," Donald confirmed.
"How come it's so hard to believe that I got into a nerd school?," Dewey asked, somewhat offended.
"I didn't mean it like that, it's just that St. Canard's Academy of Creative and Scientific Advancement is not an easy school to get into," Gosalyn explained. "It's so difficult to get accepted through their entrance exams that most people who go there were accepted due to an art or sports scholarship."
Dewey looked at Gosalyn in shock, "It's actually that hard to get accepted?"
Gosalyn nodded her head, "Yerp, super hard."
"And Dewey here was able to get a scholarship with ease," Donald announced proudly before putting his hand on Dewey's shoulder. "I'm so proud of you, Dewey."
"Heh, heh, thanks, Uncle Donald," Dewey replied in an uneasy tone, going unnoticed by Donald but not by Gosalyn.
"Anyways, I'm going to go back to playing hockey," Gosalyn decided before turning her attention to Dewey. "Hey, my team could use a goalie, you wanna come play with me Dewey?"
"Sure!," Dewey answered excitedly, ready to go over to Gosalyn's house.
Before Dewey could make his way to Gosalyn's house, Donald put his hand on Dewey's shoulder to stop him from leaving.
"Uh, aren't you forgetting something?," Donald asked before using his thumb to gesture towards their luggage and boxes.
"Oh, right," Dewey recalled with a sheepish look on his face.
Donald chuckled at Dewey's forgetfulness before taking his hand off his nephew's shoulder.
"Go have fun, I'll get the boxes and luggage inside the house," Donald decided.
Dewey looks up at his uncle in surprise, "Wait, seriously?!,"
Donald nodded his head, "Seriously. Now, go on and have fun while I put everything away."
Dewey smiles, a look of excitement clearly on his face.
"Thanks, Uncle Donald! You're the best!," Dewey exclaimed before turning his attention to Gosalyn. "Alright, Gos, show me the way to your house."
Gosalyn smiled and nodded her head before skating towards her house with Dewey following not that far behind.
Donald smiles at the retreating form of his nephew before turning back towards the back of his car.
"Alright, time to get to work," Donald stated before starting to take some of the luggage out of the trunk of his car.
(1) There's this song from a band called Daughtry called "Home". It seemed pretty appropriate to reference it at the time.
Alright, hey guys, Phoenix here, and I hope you enjoyed this chapter of "Darkwing Duck: Dynamic". Sorry for the lack of action, adventure, or superhero stuff going on in this chapter but it was needed to establish a bit of the story before getting to those things.
