Rain & Roses

Kyouka found herself walking down the sorrowful foggy street that she had come to walk many times before. The rain pelted down onto the street before her, and atop her umbrella. It was her only protection against the wind and rain, but nothing could protect her from walking down this road once again.

This street had a lone tree right down the middle, and at the end of the road was a small building that Kyouka would have ventured into on the daily. This journey was something that continued to drive into her mind the current situation she was in with her now fiancé.

Ah, yes. She was engaged to a tall green-haired hero by the name of Izuku Midoriya. The man had captured her heart in their earlier years of UA, and they had remained together for quite a few years. The man was selfless and very kindhearted, never failing to put a smile on hers, or anyone else's face for that matter. He was determined and admirable as he became the man destined as the number one hero in Japan.

Izuku Midoriya was a lover like no other, and every day that they had spent together he had successfully made her feel like she was the most important girl in the world. He always left her with butterflies, and was always such a thoughtful guy.

The woman smiled as she made her way down the street, reminiscing upon events like when they had finally confessed to one another at UA. The two had been encouraged by their respective friends for quite some time and after much persuasion, well…

Let's just say the Forest Training Camp really put their feelings out there.

Izuku walked down the streets of Shizuoka idly after encountering All Might, he was now the last semblance of One For All left in the world. Well, aside from All For One, Izuku would note. The burden of One For All now falls on Izuku Midoriya, he was destined to face off against All For One and Tomura Shigaraki.

Suddenly the boy bumped into someone who ended up falling to the ground. Him not paying attention had accidentally led to a sudden encounter with one of his friends that he wasn't sure he was ready for. It was Kyouka Jirou, both his crush, and semi-close friend. What was she doing here? Did she live in Shizuoka as well?

"Agh, geez… Watch where you're go- Midoriya?" Jirou said, looking up at the man who she had bumped into. The green-haired boy nodded and held a hand out to her, an attempt to help her up which she gratefully took. "Midoriya? What are you doing here? Do you live around here?"

Izuku nodded, "U-Uh, yeah… Sorry about bumping into you by the way, I've just… I-I've had a lot on my mind lately." He'd say, looking down at the ground. Jirou saw the slight semblance of a deep pain that he was feeling. It was almost like his mind was fogged over with thoughts of a painful realization, or massive stressor.

She knew what kinds of things he could be thinking about. With what had been happening recently, and All Might's now retirement, she could understand why Izuku would have his mind cluttered with stressful thoughts. Though she didn't want to just leave this boy to wallow in the dark and possibly even slip-up mentally, she needed to do something just like he had done for her before during the Sports Festival.

Izuku was the one to encourage her to try hard during the cavalry battle, he wanted her to be a part of his team and him along with Uraraka and Mei Hatsume were able to pull through and secure the victory. He gave her the encouragement she needed to excel, and even gain a good internship from a high ranking hero. She wanted to help him too.

"Well, I'm here if you need to talk about it, Midoriya… Matter of fact why don't we hang out today? It'd be better for you to not think about it, right?" The girl suggested, causing the boy's eyes to widen. Kyouka Jirou herself wanted to hangout with Izuku Midoriya? The nerd of 1-A? He had to be dreaming.

"Wh-What? A-Are you sure? I mean I get that we're f-friends and all, but I d-don't think I'd be very fun to hangout with…" Midoriya said, voicing a small portion of his insecurities. The girl giggled at his ability to be awkward like this even when he was hurting.

"I don't care about any of that! Midoriya, we'll have fun our own way. Besides…" Kyouka started, placing a hand upon the boy's shoulder. "I think you're plenty fun already."

That one statement had caused Izuku to blush up a storm, and he agreed without hesitation. The two spent the day indulging in each other's interests and learning more and more about one another. Kyouka had wanted to help Izuku feel better, and in the end it worked like a charm.

By the end of the day, Izuku was smiling a real smile again and it was all thanks to a certain purple-haired girl. They were friends before this day, but because of them spending time together like this they grew closer. Izuku had walked her home, and the two couldn't even say a proper goodbye due to how sad they were to leave one another.

Izuku sighed and turned to leave, before a jolt of confidence ran through him. Kyouka had turned around herself as she reached for the door, but before she could she heard footsteps running closer to her. She turned her head to see Izuku already right in front of her and he embraced her tightly.

"Thank you, Jir- No. Thank you, Kyouka. You were my hero today." He whispered gently, though loud enough for her to pick up with her quirk. The girl blushed a deep red, and embraced the boy in return. The two teens sat there in each other's arms for about a minute before they separated and stared into each other's eyes.

Kyouka had never seen this look in Izuku, it was like a slight contentedness but an urgency was present. He glanced down at the girl's lips as if to signify what he wanted, or rather, intended to do. Kyouka bit her lip and looked down to his own in response, questioning if this was really a good idea… She did have a small crush on the greenette, but this had to be moving a bit fast wasn't it? They'd only known each other a few months, and she was afraid of the risks.

Izuku had felt the same, there was a slight hesitancy in his actions and he was fearful of if she had felt the same as him. Perhaps doing something like this was really pushing some kind of boundary, but before he could question it any further Kyouka gave a small nod to him, signaling that she was okay with it.

Izuku slowly captured her lips with his own, her soft lips molding against his own. It was if the two of them were meant for one another, Izuku could feel it as he pulled her closer so that their bodies were as close as possible. Kyouka hummed into the kiss, she felt as if everything was right in the world at this very moment and every doubt she had about doing this had vanished immediately.

Soon the two found themselves struggling for air, and they hesitantly separated from their kiss. Izuku and Kyouka looked at each other with a dazed stare, their faces became red but they dared not move away. Izuku took a deep breath and looked Kyouka right in the eyes.

"I really like you, Kyouka…"

And that was how the two of them had come to be. Kyouka smiled at the memory, it had always given her butterflies every time she thought about it. Izuku had been so passionate that night, so… Loving. And that night was the start of how they transgressed as heroes, always pushing one another to do better. And now Izuku was the number one hero, and Kyouka was the number six.

The day they were ranked as the top ten heroes was the day that Izuku had decided to propose. The two of them were 23, soon both to be 24 in the coming months, and Izuku wanted them to take the next step in their relationship.

Kyouka passed by the lone tree on the road as she remembered the day that he had proposed. The rain continued to pelt onward, almost harder than before. It was nothing like the day he had proposed Kyouka would note. She stopped at the tree and stared down the road as more fog would cloud the path, though it didn't matter.

She had walked this road many times, and memorized where she was going. The reason for walking this road so much was like the fog that was currently blocking the path. It was blocking her from having happy thoughts. No, she wasn't going to let that stop her.

'Think of the proposal, Kyouka. Think of the proposal…'

The official ceremony for the hero rankings of this year was now over, and Kyouka couldn't be happier! Both her and her boyfriend were ranked in the top ten for pro heroes, with her boyfriend being ranked number one! She couldn't be more proud of her green bean.

Speaking of her green bean, he was making his way over to her now with a large smile present on his face. She hoped that she wasn't wearing such a huge smile as well, but she knew that she was. This was too big of an event not to be super happy.

"Kyouka! We did it!" The green-haired man stated, picking the girl up into a tight embrace. The two shared a small laugh of excitement and joy before he finally set her down onto her own two feet.

"Yeah, we really did it! I can't believe I got ranked so high! I beat Mina!" She exclaimed, albeit a bit smug over the fact that she beat her long time teaser of her and Izuku's relationship.

Izuku chuckled at Kyouka's smug attitude and gestured over to his car, causing Kyouka to shoot him a confused glance. He smiled and walked over without saying a word, somewhat forcing Kyouka to follow him.

"There's somewhere that I want to take you now." The man stated, hopping into the driver seat as his girlfriend joined him on the passenger side. She grew confused on where exactly he would take her, but she assumed it would just be to celebrate their new placements on the hero rankings.

The two took a long car ride down memory lane, talking about past experiences and just enjoying each other's company whilst music played on the radio. Soon enough the couple reached their destination in Shizuoka, it was Takoba Municipal Beach Park.

Why was Izuku taking her here of all places? There was nothing around for miles, and the beach had only been cleaned out soon before her coming to UA. It was odd, but no one questioned who exactly cleaned it as it was most likely a deed done out of pure kindness and concern for the environment.

"Come on, let's get onto the beach." Izuku said, turning the car off and hopping out. Kyouka followed suit, but not without being a bit concerned about not exactly having a swimsuit or anything.

"Oh, I didn't bring a swimsui-" She started before being cut off by her green-haired boyfriend.

"You don't need one, c'mon this is important." He said, a bit excitedly. Kyouka grew increasingly confused at the man's actions. First he brings her here without any explanation, and now it was supposed to be important? What the hell was Izuku Midoriya up to today?

Finally, the two of them reached the beach, and with his back turned to Jirou he took a deep breath. "Y'know… I was the one to clean off this beach. It used to be a giant landfill of old appliances and garbage that no one wanted. It had been that way for years, and more and more people just kept dumping their garbage here, but my mentor had me clean this place out as a means to improve my body for UA."

Kyouka's eyes widened at the information Izuku had just revealed to her. She knew he hadn't exactly been the most built kid before UA, but to be the one to clean this entire coastline all just to bulk up for UA seemed insane. What kind of mentor did he have!?

"This place has both pleasant and… Painful memories. But I wouldn't be who I am without this beach, it's important to me… And so are you." Izuku exclaims, finally turning to face her. His face had a gentle smile that made her heart throb and the boy took small steps towards her. The girl's heart begins to beat uncontrollably almost in fear.

Izuku reaches her and holds out his hand, signalling for her to give him her own. She complies and he rubs his scarred thumb over her hand gently, staring down at her petite hands. Finally he exhales, "You're important to me as well. And I wouldn't be where I am now without you pushing me to always do my best, but not to get killed like a moron."

Kyouka giggles at the use of her own words. She had scolded him time and time again to be careful and to not get hurt beyond repair so that she could always live onwards with him. It was a fear she had that one day he would be a little too heroic and end up… Gone.

"But that's why I can't let things like this go. This beach I'll never let go of, and you…" He starts, taking her hand and giving a gentle kiss to her small knuckles. He kneels down on one knee and rummages through his pocket. "I don't think I want to ever let go of."

The man pulls out a small black box and opens it to reveal an emerald engagement ring with a silver band. He looks up at her as tears begin to build up in the corners of her eyes, and he smiles. "Will you keep me from failing as a hero, and stay by my side for the rest of my life?"

The tears in Kyouka's eyes finally fell, and she choked back a sob as she took the ring from him. She looked down at his smiling face and she smiled in response, only one clear answer on her mind.

"YES! Yes, you idiot, you don't even have to ask!"

That memory was also a good one. A memory of the happier days until now. Kyouka had sighed as she stared at the lone tree on the road. It had started to bud flowers in this foggy weather, and she wondered if it signified something good to finally happen in her life again.

She supposed beating around the bush, and distracting herself from the painful memories wasn't going to work much longer… Izuku had gotten into an accident with villains. The battle was hard fought, and although the heroes prevailed, as they always should, the number one hero had suffered many injuries.

He had been hospitalized for quite some time, and Kyouka had walked down this road almost daily just so that she could see his face. He was in a coma due to his injuries, and Kyouka was starting to believe that her husband-to-be would never wake up.

It was all that damn Shigaraki's face. Him and that crazy bitch Toga had planned an assault on him alone, but luckily he held out until help had arrived. Though, that fight had left him with many scars, it wasn't as if he couldn't continue as a hero… That is, if he were to wake up.

Kyouka resigned herself to continue her walk down the street to the hospital. This was just going to be another pain filled visit to this hospital to see her unconscious fiance. She wondered what kinds of things were happening in his mind as he was in his hospital bed. She sometimes would think about things such as this while traversing this road.

Everyday like clockwork she would walk down this street very slowly while thinking about him, hell even when she wasn't going to visit him she would sit in their shared home and think about him. Sometimes their friends would visit and check on her, but she could do nothing but cry while thinking about him. He hadn't woken up for months, and now it seemed he would never wake up.

Inko Midoriya, his mother, had also visited quite often at first, but now it seemed she was visiting less and less as it was too painful to bear seeing her son in that state. The incident was all that she could look back on whenever she thought of him.

That damned incident.

Kyouka had been given the call to report to Kamino as a massive battle had decided to arise in the city. It was almost as if history had repeated itself, Kyouka would note as she reminisced about the fight between All Might and All For One. She rushed to the scene, as did many other heroes present.

Apparently the top three heroes were already present and fighting their asses off, but this attack was targeted specifically against Izuku Midoriya, aka the number one hero, Deku. Kyouka feared for the worst, but this was her fiance she was talking about, he was going to be perfectly fine, right? Right?

Soon enough the woman arrived on the scene with a medical evac team and a few other pro heroes, such as Creati, and Red Riot. The heroes rushed to the scene only to find themselves at a massive crater of devastation, a trademark of the villain Tomura Shigaraki. Creati had created a pair of binoculars to see into the battle only to spot an unconscious Shigaraki, and a kneeling Izuku Midoriya.

"He's in there alive. He looks pretty beat up, but he's alive Jirou-san. Don't worry." She stated, causing her purple haired friend to sigh in relief. She had worried that he had overdone himself once again, but it seemed at the very least he was alive.

The medical evac team was led into the fray by Kyouka, and they quickly made their way over to the area along with police. They had come to detain the now defeated Tomura Shigaraki, although Himiko Toga was nowhere to be seen. Izuku was in sight, but it looked as though both him and Shigaraki were talking.

Finally the police came and detained him, and the medical team loaded Izuku's body onto a stretcher to get him out of there. Kyouka walked up beside him and looked down at her nearly destroyed future husband and he smiled as his vision locked onto her.

"Kyouka…" The man said, as blood poured from holes in his body, "I'm gonna... take a nap for a while..."

Kyouka grew confused as she stared at her husband, but the man had fallen unconscious due to blood loss and needed to be rushed to the nearest hospital. But that line had stuck to Kyouka like the plague.

What did that mean?

Now, Kyouka realizes that Izuku might have known that he was going to fall into a coma after this. She wasn't sure if he was just loopy after all of the blood loss, but she knew that it definitely meant something. But now here they were in this kind of situation, with the love of her life being pretty much dead.

That was a harsh way of putting it, dark even, but at this point she had been hurting way too much. She needed the warmth of her fiancé's smile again. She needed to see his face, and feel his touch at night. It was so lonely without him in her life…

Kyouka closed her umbrella as she entered the hospital, the nurse at the front desk immediately recognizing her. She sends her a sympathetic smile and pulls out her clipboard.

"Hi, … You already know you've got 4 hours with him. Go on up, just left." The nurse stated, pointing to the elevator. Kyouka nodded and gave a soft, yet solemn smile to the woman before heading over to the elevators. She had been dripping wet due to the rain, but she didn't care. She hadn't been sleeping, but she didn't care. In all honesty she looked horrible, but she didn't care. Her husband-to-be was all that she cared about.

She entered the elevator and shook off her wet umbrella, before exhaling a bit out of stress. She watched as the elevator indicator slowly rose to the 8th floor. His room would be on the right, the first room outside of the elevator. 8-01, ironic that it was the same number as her birthday.

Honestly, it was a bit painful to think about her birthday as it was the first one since her and Izuku had gotten together that she had spent without him. It was sad that she had to go this long without him in the first place. Izuku was always such a caring boyfriend, a kind friend, and a selfless lover. He encouraged her to do so much for herself, such as creating her first album, and becoming the great hero that she is now, and now that she doesn't get to see him anymore… She honestly felt dead.

She felt as if all the life in her body had been sucked away as she heard the words from the doctor telling her that he may never wake up again. The doctors have even told her that she should just give up hope and cut him from life support but she couldn't do that, nobody in his life could. Izuku was a fighter.

Izuku would wake up eventually. She was sure of it, and no one could change her mind. Hell, even Bakugou believed that Izuku would wake up eventually, and he screamed at the doctor for even suggesting that his rival was weak enough to die like this. They weren't going to give up on him, just like he never gave up on them.

Finally, the elevator dinged, and the doors opened. She had reached her designated floor. She stepped out of the elevator and slowly walked along the hallway until she reached his door. She took a deep breath as she readied herself for the sight she had seen time and time again.

It would just be Izuku laying there lifelessly with all those machines hooked up to him, making sure that he stayed breathing normally. It was a sad sight that she had unfortunately gotten used to, and it always fueled her uncertainty on if the boy would ever really wake up ever again. But she wanted to stay hopeful that one day… One day he would wake up and embrace her again.

"That's just wishful thinking…" She mumbled to herself as she took hold of the doorknob and opened the door. She had been wearing her husband's winter coat as a means to protect herself from the rain, and began to remove it, before she halted her movements entirely.

She stared at the sight in front of her, unsure of if she was dreaming or not. It looked as if her husband was sitting upright in his bed on his own, his head was turned outside of the window at the side of his room and he watched the rain pelt against the window, before eventually it suddenly ceased to be. The man turned his head as the door to the room opened fully and there stood his beautiful fiancé.

The two locked eyes and sat in silence, Izuku's gaze then turned to the flowers at his bedside. Roses that Kyouka had always gotten and replaced for him frequently. He then smiled, and turned his attention back to his wife-to-be. Kyouka stared at him as her eyes began to fill with tears, and she dropped her umbrella before falling to her knees. Izuku had finally woken up.

"Hi Kyouka… Thanks for the flowers."
