Overdrive, Overheard

A/N: Hey guys, hope you aren't getting tired of these, I am determined to get through the all teams. Tyzonn will be missing from this because it was kind of hard to fit him in. So until next time ENJOY R&R PLZ!

Sometimes Operation Overdrive was a high octane, adrenaline pumping, action-filled adventure but other times it was so dull that you wanted to rip your hair out. Such was one of those times, there was always a lull between missions when research had to be done or equipment needed repairs and since Mr. Hartford and Spencer did much of the work this left the rangers with very little to do. "I'm bored," Dax groaned having been staring at the ceiling for the last half hour.

"Yeah well, so are we," Will muttered. "Do something about it."

"Like what?"

Will turned slowly to face his teammate, "You think if I had the answer to that, I'd be sitting here?"

"Good point," Dax huffed.

"Hey guys," Mac walked into the living room. "What's going on?"

"Nothing," the other two chanted.

"What else is new," Mac rolled his eyes. "Where are the girls?"

"Somewhere," Dax said disinterestedly.

"Think we could convince them to come with us for a movie?" Mac suggested.

"A movie?" Dax perked up.

"Well it's not like we've got anything better to do," Mac pointed out.

"Fine let's go get them," Will stood. "I think they're in the garden." It wasn't a mission but at least they were doing something so while Mac alerted his dad and Spencer about their plans, Dax and Will went out and saw Rose and Ronny in the hammock talking and laughing.

"They look like they're having fun," Dax observed.

"Yeaaahh," Will rubbed his chin. "They do, I wonder what that is all about?" It was a common occurrence for all the rangers to be bored out of their teeth collectively so for the women to be so cheerful, it was downright suspicious.

"Will…no," Dax shut him down before he could even go there.

"What? I didn't say anything," Will held up his hands innocently.

"I know you man, you've got that scheming look in your eye. I tried being sneaky once and ended up having to clean all the toilets in this place. And that was Mr. Hartford. Imagine what the girls would do to us if we pulled anything."

"We certainly wouldn't be bored," Will smirked.

"No, but that's because we'd be DEAD!"

Mac appeared, "Hey talk to the girls yet?"

"We were just about to," Dax started dragging Will but the black ranger resisted.

"Now hang on a second, let's consider our options here!"

"There are no options here," Dax insisted. "Can we please just ask them to the movies and have done with it?"

"What are you talking about?" Mac asked.

Will explained unabashed, "I'm interested to know what the girls are talking about. So I propose we listen in and find out."

The first thing out of Mac's mouth was, "THEY'LL MURDER US!"

"SEE!" Dax exclaimed triumphantly. "Mac agrees with me."

"I still think it sounds like fun," Mac added sheepishly. "I'm with Will."

"AHA," Will cackled. "Two against one, you've been overruled blue guy." Without another word, Will hauled them over to the row of hedges, walking behind them until they were near the girls. Their voices carried easily enough over to where the boys were hiding.

Ronny – "Truth or dare?"

Rose – "Truth."

Ronny – "Hmmmm… When was your first kiss?"

Rose – "Wow, high school much?"

Ronny – "If we run through the good stuff early, we won't have anything for later."

Rose – laughing "Okay, junior high with Robert Smith. It wasn't much to brag about, we were dared ironically enough. Truth or dare?"

Ronny – "Dare."

Rose – "I dare you to…rank the guys by how hot they are."

Ronny – "What happened to saving the good stuff?"

Rose – "You wanted to save it, not me! I want to hear something interesting."

Will grinned, "Thanks for that Rose, now Ronny if you will…"

Ronny – "Fine, it's easy anyway. Dax, then Mack, then Will is the hottest."

"NO HE'S NOT!" Mack and Dax protested in outraged whispers. Will said nothing but that smug superior smirk spoke volumes.

Rose – "Really? I would've gone; Will, Dax, Mack."

"That's sounds better," Mack smiled.

Dax pouted, "No one thinks I'M the hottest?"

"Don't let it bother you man," Will waved it off. "There are only two girls on our team. I bet there are tons of others who do think you're hot."

"Maybe," Dax shrugged.

Ronny – "Truth or dare?"

Rose – "Truth."

Ronny – "Considering that you ranked Mack the hottest, do you have a crush on our red ranger?" The boys literally held their breath in anticipation for this answer.

Rose – "I'm not sure. Mack is great and super sweet, I could see myself liking him but with everything that's going on, we really don't have the time for that."

Ronny – "Fair enough. I know what you're going to ask me now so I want a dare."

Rose – "Fine I dare you to tell me whether or not you like Will."

Will sniggered, "Rose plays diiiiirrrrttyyy!"

"She is pretty isn't she?" Mack said dreamily until he noticed how the other two were regarding him. "Pretty smart, I meant pretty smart!"

"Aw aren't you sweet," Dax cooed.

"Can we please Ronny's answer?" Will brought their attention back to the matter at hand.

Ronny – "Yeah I do. There's just something about him. He's so self-assured and cool but in a heartbeat he becomes this intense fighter. It's magnetic."

Rose – laughing "Magnetic?"

Ronny – "For want of a better word."

"I'll take it," said Will. "She's a great girl. Maybe I should ditch you guys and take her to lunch."

Dax rolled his eyes, "I'm sure she'll be thrilled when you pop out of the hedges like a whack-a-mole and reveal you've been eavesdropping."

"Obviously I'm going to go back," Will made a face.

"Then shouldn't we go back now?" Mack asked. They made noises of assent and began to creep back.

Inside, Mr. Hartford and Spencer were watching them on the security cameras as they had been the entire time. Spencer looked as amused as he ever did, "Should I sir?"

"Well we can't have them thinking they can do that to their teammates now can we?" Mr. Hartford chuckled, "Go ahead Spencer, you do the honours." Spencer properly and professionally flipped a red switch on the control panel in front of them.

Outside, the sprinklers activated causing the men to jump and yell, loudly giving away their position to the girls. But Ronny and Rose were also getting soaked so they weren't paying the strictest attention as they leapt off the hammock. The team ran inside, panting and dripping with water. Right on cue Spencer and Mr. Hartford appeared looking as innocent as kids. No one noticed that the devious butler was already bearing towels for them all. Mr. Hartford said with totally believable apology in his voice, "Sorry kids, I thought you guys had gone to the movies so I told Spencer he could water the lawns."

"The movies?" Rose stripped off her sopping jacket.

"Mack came and told me the boys were going to ask you if wanted to head out," Mr. Hartford shrugged.

"They didn't tell us anything," Ronny said dubiously.

"We didn't get a chance," Dax muttered covertly glaring at Will.

Will was too busy shaking his legs like a wet dog, "Damn I think I was standing on a sprinkler, my pants are completely wet."

Mr. Hartford worked his mouth to keep from smiling, "How did you end up on a sprinkler?"

"They were in the hedges," Rose said distractedly until her words hit home. Rose and Ronny froze in unison and the boys began to edge away fearfully. "Guys," Rose narrowed her eyes. "What were you doing in the hedges?"

Needless to say, Dax was reacquainted with his duties as bathroom cleaner, Mack was assigned to do the launder all the wet clothes, and, in ironic punishment, Will had to trim the hedges and mow the extensive lawns. The girls didn't go to the movies, choosing to supervise the boys (Ronny took particular pleasure kicking the piles of grass Will raked up). As Mr. Hartford and Spencer, they just sat back and enjoyed the fun. But hey, at least no one was bored.
