"I can't believe it!" Poe grumbled crouching next to the wall, which had been opened, displaying a maze of wires and gears. Jannah's team was helping with fixing the Falcon. Poe had no time to show his gratitude, he was too frustrated to think. He needed to fiddle with the wiring to calm down. Han had been put down on the couch next to the chess table by Finn, before he had run off after Rey.
Since the child was born Poe had neither been nice nor mean to Han. He wasn't a baby person and honestly didn't know what to think about the son of Kylo ren and Rey. The infant was staring at him while he worked, with huge hazel eyes, like his mother's. "Honestly, what was Rey thinking? Stealing a Skimmer, doesn't she know we are a team?" He cursed as the wire sparked, sending a small jolt of electrical charge into his finger.
He gritted his teeth, glancing back at the infant on the couch. For a moment he stopped moving a laid on the floor. He was silent until he felt a small hand on his leg. He looked down to see Han crawling towards him. Poe sat up and stared at Han, who was climbing onto his lap. "Your mother drives me crazy you know that?" Han responded with a burp. "And then Finn... why would Finn run after her like that, it's a suicide mission? Fix the Falcon should be our first move, not riding a Skimmer into the waves of death!"
Chewie walked past but didn't stop and instead walked down the entrance ramp to fix the ship's blasters from the outside. "Honestly, I don't know how Leia did it. How did she become the general she is today, make all those hard decisions? I just... sometimes I wonder if I'll ever be as good a leader as she is." He sighed.
Han looked up at him and Poe couldn't shake the feeling that the child understood everything he was saying. What else did he know? Did he know that his mother was doing everything she could to keep him and his father separate. Did he know that the fate of the whole galaxy was at stake and if they didn't succeed then people everywhere will live the rest of their lives in terror?
Han fiddled with Poe's hands. The young infant was strange, unlike other babies he had yet to say his fist word. "Do you feel the force?" Poe asked, not expecting a response. He held up the child who gave a small cute laugh. "If so, what side are you on?" Han small hand landed on Poe's nose, squeezing it lightly. Poe put him down and couldn't help but smile. A new determined energy rushed through him. "Alright, come on. Let's go help you mamma!"
"Look at yourself." Kylo Ren said mercilessly. Rey had activated Luke's lightsaber and took a shaking step towards him. Her breathing was loud and sudden and anger vibrated off of her. Kylo could feel it and he continued to fan the flames. He had predicted that Rey wouldn't have Han with her, it was too dangerous. Now was his chance to convince her, then together they will take their son and over power Palpatine. "You wanted to prove yourself to my mother but you've proven something else."
She shivered with fear and breathed in short breath of the cold salty air. "You can't go back to her now, like I can't." He was smiling now, finally someone he could relate to, someone who would understand him.
"Give it to me!" She hissed, making him flinch back in surprise. But he quickly regained his determined manner and held the Wayfinder out in front of him as if to tease her. "The darkside is in our nature, as it is also in our son, surrender to it."
"Give. It. To. Me." She spat each word and he glanced down at the device in his hand. She also looked at it, with a newfound fear and wanting. "The only way you're getting to Exegol, is with me." He hardened his grip and with the help of the force, he crushed the Wayfinder. Green liquid oozed onto his glove but he didn't have time to react as Rey screamed and thrusted her lightsaber at him.
The blue fire barely missed his face. He dodged her attacks, refusing at first to attack, finally he had no choice but to ignite his own blade for defence. The sounds of the blades striking echoed in the skeleton of the Death Star.
Kylo backed up and jumped down a shaft, Rey jumped after him, her eyes full of hate. Somehow they were soon fighting on the outside of the Death Star, huge waves threatened to crash down on them. Kylo was still blocking Rey's attacks yet didn't try to strike her himself. This only angered Rey more. Her thrust soon became more aggressive with each hit. "Rey!" Finn's voice screamed and she turned around to see him and Jannah running towards them.
The last thing Rey wanted was for Finn to get hurt, and she wanted to defeat Kylo Ren herself, she wanted to be the reason he fell. "No!" She yelled holding out her hand and throwing Finn back with the force. She turned back around and continued to swing at Kylo. Their blades caught on each other and Rey looked up at the huge wave forming above them. She ran to the edge of the metal heap, jumping over the wave and landing on the other side.
She looked back but couldn't see Kylo anymore. Maybe the wave had washed him away. No such luck, cause as soon as the thought crossed her mind, Kylo landed behind her pointing his red lightsaber in her direction. She hit it aside and continued to try and get a single hit on him, but every time he blocked her.
Rey's stanima was decreasing rapidly and soon she was panting like a dog. She gave a out of breath noise and took a step back. Her hazel eyes looked into Kylo's dark ones. They stood there, facing each other, before Rey tried summoning the rest of her energy and slashed her blade once. He blocked it.
She could see over her shoulder that the Falcon had landed behind them and its ramp had opened. Turning the lightsaber in her hand she focused her attention back on Kylo and tried swinging again, but this time, not only did he block her but he was able to trip her. She was soon lying on the ground, her lightsaber deactivated.
But Kylo didn't stop, he circled Rey until he was facing in the direction of the Falcon. He wanted everyone to see what he was about to do. He raised his blade for the killing blow, but then stopped. His face softened and he looked up towards the Falcon. He lowered the now deactivated lightsaber. The moment he was seeing was so precious and a new feeling wash over him, guilt? What he was looking at was supposed to be a happy moment, yet here they were. Here he was.
His mind seemed to be elsewhere and the black handle slipped from his fingers. Mid-air Rey caught it, activated it and with one swift movement, pierced the side of Kylo's torso.
The blow was deadly and Kylo looked at her in shock before glancing weakly back at the Falcon. Rey panted heavily. There was a tremor in the force, a warning that what she'd done was wrong. She turned around and her mouth opened slightly.
On the edge of the Falcon's ramp, standing for the first time, was Han. He wobbled slightly on his legs, yet didn't seem to need their help to stand. The scene was so shocking that Rey dropped both lightsabers. She heard Kylo fall down behind her.
Han looked at the two of them silently. He knew that the man lying behind Rey, gasping for air, for life, was his father. Han tried to take a step forward but hesitated when he wobbled. Rey walked towards him, not even glancing at Kylo, and picked him up. Han stared at the figure of his father. The two boys eyes met and Han held out a small hand for Kylo. Rey turned around, glancing at the black clad form.
Kylo looked back at her with pleading but also confused eyes. She hesitated before walking towards him and placing Han at his side. Kylo, with some difficulty, propped himself up as Han climbed onto his father so he was resting his chest. Kylo's breaths were becoming short and Rey's felt sick to her stomach.
So many thoughts filled her mind. She turned around. She could hear Poe walking towards the ramp. With a flick of her hand, the ramp closed and locked, leaving Poe, Chewie and the droids locked inside. "Rey!" Poe called out but she ignored them.
Kylo brushed back his sons hair. The black hair that they both shared, that made them look so alike. Rey wondered why she'd never cut it, maybe it was because Han reminded her of Ben, not Kylo, but Ben.
She thought of what would happen next, she and Han would leave, Kylo's dead body lying on the metal ground to be one day swallowed by the ocean. No. That couldn't be right. This wasn't the way things should end. Her hand reached out, touching the wound she'd caused.
Kylo's eyes followed her hand, still holding his son close. Energy rushed out of Rey and in Ren. It was almost overwhelming. When Rey lifted her hand the wound had healed itself and the scar decorating Kylo's right eye was gone. He looked exactly like he had when she'd first seen his face. Only now the certainty was gone.
The darkside no longer offered him power, comfort and protection. The veil of lies that'd been put over his eyes had been ripped off. In the force far away Rey could sense that Leia was aware of her deed. "I did want to take your hand," she found herself saying. "Ben's hand." With that she picked up Han, who silently looked between the two of them.
The Falcon didn't seem like an option, instead she ran for Kylo's TIE. Once she was inside she place Han on her lap and sat silently for a second. Poe and Chewie were watching her from their window of the Falcon. She fired up the TIE Fighter and flew off.
The ramp door unlocked, but Poe had seen Rey save Kylo and for some reason that convinced him not to give the Supreme Leader a piece of his mind. Instead he flew off to collect Finn.
As Rey flew into the stars she knew exactly where she was going, away.
