There's a lot of speculation about what happens after death. Some people believe in an afterlife while others believe in reincarnation. The idea of death often scares people to the point where they don't know what to think of what's to come after life has ended, so some choose not to think about it. Better to not dwell on it while life is still enjoyable.
Sasha had never really given it too much thought before, choosing to live her life like how her ancestors had. They were all dead after all, but with advancements in technology over the years and Sasha's vows to take back her land, she didn't really give it much of a thought. There was no reason to, she had so much left to live for.
That's what she had always thought until the bullet had hit her.
The last thing that Sasha remembered was Jean and Connie standing over her as she moved in and out of consciousness, replaced by Mikasa and Armin's blurry figures shouting something at her. Something hit her face, but she couldn't really tell what it was, she was beginning to lose all feeling.
Her lips moved just barely, uttering out a word that even she couldn't hear as she felt herself becoming light, looking down on her own body as if she were watching her own death.'What's going on?' She thought, watching as Connie announced to the others that Sasha was officially dead.
"You're dead, but you're here with us now,'" A familiar voice spoke from behind Sasha's floating form. "It's okay, we were all scared too when we found ourselves like this." Marco said, his all too familiar freckled face seeming like a beacon of light in the darkness.
Behind him, Sasha could see more familiar floating forms of those who had died along the years. Mina, Thomas, Marlowe, even Moblit was there. "H-how...are we ghosts?" She asked quietly, her eyes flicking to every person she could bring herself to see. She wasn't sure if her eyes were watering, but if they could, she knew that she would be crying right now.
Marco chuckled. "You could say that. We've always made it a point to watch over you all after we died because you all meant so much to us." His voice seemed even at first, but it was clear that there was something hidden underneath it all.
Sasha's eyes widened. "That means-"
"Yeah," He cut her off. "We've been there the whole time."
Just the thought of it made Sasha feel so happy, so relieved. Marco was there with them when they reached the ocean. Marco was there with them even when times seemed dark. Marco was there.
Sasha rushed forward and tackled the freckled boy in a hug, burying her face into his chest. "You know, I watched over Jean for you like you would've wanted." She managed to say after a while, a sad smile on her face. She never quite forgot about how lonely Jean had been while coping with the death of his best friend, so Sasha and Connie had made it their mission to pull him out of the dark place as best as they could. She had always told him that Marco would have been proud if he were watching them, and now she knew that it was true.
Marco held Sasha tightly. "Yeah, I know. Thank you for that."
The two of them stood there like that for what felt like ages, just accepting that they were there together after all these years, not quite wanting to let go of one another. Below them, they could just barely make out everyone's raw reactions to Sasha's death, background noise in the calming silence that now filled her ears.
Pulling back while still holding onto each other, Sasha and Marco watched the commotion together. Part of her wondered who would be the next unfortunate person to join them, but she immediately pushed the thought out of her head. She'd rather see them all live out their lives until they were all old and pruny, which is why she could tell Marco seeing her there had probably hurt him and everyone else that was there. Sasha was still young and they had all probably expected her to live a little longer.
"How did you die?" Sasha blurted all of a sudden. "I mean, you were always so smart and fast on your feet, so how did Jean find you dead?"
Marco bit his lip, a nervous habit she had noticed from even before his death. "I overheard Reiner and Bertholdt talking and end up finding out their identities as the Colossal and Armored Titan. Annie too. They took off my ODM gear before I could make it back to you guys and warn everyone."
Sasha looked up, shocked yet not surprised that Marco had been the first one to find out. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, Sasha."
"So, what happens now?"
Sasha and Marco look back at each other before looking at the rest of their fallen comrades that were surrounding them. "We wait until we can see them again and hope that they all live long and happy lives." He responded, rubbing circles into her back.
As much as Sasha wanted to be back with Jean and Connie again, she also wanted them to live happy lives. It's what they deserved. They came this far, they'd have to make it the rest of the way without her now.
"Can't wait to see you again," She whispered to no one in particular.
Okay time to out myself: this fic is based off of a tik tok I recorded of Sasha meeting Marco in heaven and I needed some sort of happiness after watching the episode today, so this was born. Anyways, time to go cry again ;-;
