Chapter 2

The next day, I went over to the girls' dorms with Rodney to see Annabeth and tell her it wasn't my fault we lost. Or, I tried to at least. Boys aren't allowed in the girls dorms and vice versa, but no one followed that rule except Annabeth. Oh, Annabeth. She would soon be my girlfriend. (Sorry, but no) We snuck over to Annabeth and Kathy's dorm, but they weren't there. I decided to leave a note so Annabeth knew I had looked for her. It said:

Hey Annabeth, sorry we couldn't catch you before you went down to breakfast, but we just wanted to say we're sorry about last night and we WILL make it to State, don't worry. You wanna go to the fireworks tomorrow night with me?

Love,

Your boyfriend (and Rodney!)

The fireworks were a tradition. They happened every year before we all went home for Winter Break, and they were good, sometimes, but not always. I realized that Annabeth had never seen the fireworks, because she had disappeared last year before Break. She had said there was a family emergency, and she might not be back for a while. She didn't come back until the last two weeks of school, claiming her family were going through rough times. I guess that was right, because she never mentioned her mom's side of her family, only her cute little twin brothers.

After writing the letter and putting it on the desk, James and I snuck out of Annabeth's room and down the hall.

"Hey, Max," James started.

I finished for him, saying, "Don't worry, she'll find it."

"That's not what I was going to say," James replied, rolling his eyes.

We walked down the hall in silence after that, heading to the Breakfast Hall. We finally made it, and I sat down beside James.

"How'd it go?" James asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

Fine," I answered, "She wasn't there, so I wrote a note and left it on her desk."

"Why'd she leave the door unlocked?" James seemed confused. I knew why. She wanted to get that note from me, but I decided to keep that to myself.

"I dunno, must be a girl thing," I replied instead. Rodney didn't look convinced, but he let it slide, because Annabeth and Kathy were walking up to our table. "Hey guys, what's up?" Annabeth seemed out of breath as she answered.

"We were busy uh- talking to the principal."

"Yeah, talking about our grades." Kathy backed Annabeth up. I wasn't sure about that, but Annabeth and Kathy seemed sure, so I didn't really care.

"Are you ready for classes today?" Annabeth asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, my schedule looks pretty sad today," James said, banging his head on the table. "But at least I have Gym with Coach Hedge today." We all rolled our eyes. No one liked Coach Hedge except for James and probably Annabeth.

"Yeah, so do I," Annabeth said. Just then, the bell rang, signaling us to go to our first class.

I had Math with Mrs. Breadneck first. She was this old lady that looked like a vulture, with a stooped head and an arched back. "Okay class," she began in this screechy voice, "I want you to do all the odds on pages 683 - 684. When you finish, take one of the extracurricular worksheets in the back to work on." Everyone groaned. We hated the extracurricular worksheets Mrs. Breadneck gave us. "What are you doing sitting around! Get to work!"

After Math, Science, English, Lunch, and Latin, I had Gym with Coach Hedge. He was this really short guy with a megaphone that says random stuff like "The pig says oink" sometimes. James once asked him why it does that, and he just said something like

"That Valdez kid!" and so, we would assume that the Valdez kid had done something with it. If so, he had done a good job. Anyways, we sat down on the bleachers and waited for Coach Hedge to give us our warmup. "Okay, Cupcakes!" He shouted through his new megaphone James gave him for Christmas. (He really likes Coach.) "There's a kid that owes me for ruining my old megaphone, and since it's the last day before break, we're going to see how many push-ups he can do before collapsing!" This was actually something I was interested in, because it didn't involve me having to do anything but laugh at him. "Valdez! Come on out!" Coach called. A boy that looked a little like an elf skipped out onto the middle of the gym floor from the storage room.

So this was the famous Valdez boy. He didn't look like he could do five push-ups, never mind until the end of the period.

"Okay, okay, I admit to making your megaphone-"

"VALDEZ! On the floor!" Coach Hedge looked very happy. Valdez began doing push-ups, and, I gotta admit, I was surprised he made it to twenty. After he did two hundred, Coach Hedge began looking bored. "Okay, Leo, you can get up." He said in a Darth Vader voice.

"Ah, thanks, Coach," Leo said. "AND RUN AROUND THIS SCHOOL THREE TIMES!" Coach finished. "No, scratch that, babysit Chuck for me."

"Oh come on, Coach, I don't want to do that," Leo pleaded. "Well, too bad for you. I expect you at my place on Saturday." Coach looked very smug. I didn't even know who Chuck is, and I still felt bad for Leo.

"NOW GET OUT OF HERE, CUPCAKES!" We all ran towards the doors.

The rest of the day passed uneventfully. After the school day was over, I went up to my dorm room and got ready for the fireworks. Rodney came in (he was my roommate) and said,

"Mr. Lifenset wants to see you. He says to get all your stuff together." I did that and went to the principal's office.

"Mr. Vestron. Please come in." The secretary announced. "Mr. Lifenset wants to see you now." I walked into the principal's office and sat down. Mr. Lifenset looked at me and said, "You are going home right now. Your mother wants you to transfer schools today."

Cliffhanger! I'm sorry that there has not been any Percabeth so far, but that will start in the next chapter or the one after that. Thank you to everyone who reviewed, (no one) and I will keep writing. I don't know what I was thinking with those names. I mean, Lifenset? Breadneck? I want to do a QOTD, so here it is: What is your favorite PJO/HOO couple? I think it's Percabeth. (duh)

Bye people,
